windows live - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Just recently I (spent 5 days) putting wp7 on my HTC hd2. It's a few days later and this is the 1st time I've had a chance to fool around with it. It seems that every time I try to do something it wants me to sign into windows live. I have a windows live account and can use it to sign into my hotmail account, with no problems. But every time I try to sign in on the hd2 now (say, to access marketplace) it tells me there is a problem and I have to phone them to get a code. Can anyone explain this to me. Thanks.

HD2 not official WP7 device and you must contact Microsoft (on English language) via chat or call and ask for Live activation code for HTC HD7

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920726

... etc

ansar.ath.gr posted another way in the ROM threadhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1510444 and involves using a real WP7 phone and installing a registry editor. But it is probably easier to follow dxdy's advice and chat
//// LEO Windows Live activation ////
>> You can activate a LEO Windows Live account with the following 2 ways
>> 1.1 Using an existing Activation Code (AC) related to your *@live.com e-mail
>> 1.2 Creating an AC related to your *@live.com e-mail as follows
>> 1.2.1 Add a Windows Live account with any WP7
>> 1.2.2. Using Registry Editor find AC under the registry key
>> ....... [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\GwpCPC]
>> ....... and Registry Value
>> ....... ActivationCode
>> 2. Add a Windows Live account in your LEO using the following
>> ... *@live.com e-mail, your password and your AC

all this registry works, xap install or others is useless without calling/chat with Microsoft and get code

The registry editor is installed in the real WP7 to access the new code created there. Sorry if it is not clear

yes but he is beginner and he ask for help for activation code... answer is: get code from Microsoft and enter this code in phone... and thats all.... dont confuse beginner with registry editors, reading keys.... and for what to read if alredy get it from MS? this stuff for people who have also original WP7
simply every time when flash new ROM again write own Live activation code from MS and all is ok....
nothing more....

Thanks everyone and especially dxdy who is very right in saying I'm a beginner. So........an activation code! WHY! I'm about two sec from throwing this hd2 in the bin. It's never ending getting wp7 up and running. If and when I ever get this Fing activation code, what's next?
I'm I going to spend the rest of my life just trying to get the phone to work and not a min actually being productive with it?
Now, my problem is, I'm now in Malaysia and the hd2 has an American Sim card in it which won't allow me to make calls here (not I would if it could as the cost would be prohibitive). Somebody mention contacting MS (dam them to hell) via chat. Could you expand on that? Thanks.

go to address
http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/cu_sc_selector_chat?ws=support
change country to United States in top right corner (see picture)
again load link
http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/cu_sc_selector_chat?ws=support
now click
"General Inquiries about Microsoft Products and Services or Genuine Advantage Questions"
chat with MS representative and tell for example you buy HTC HD7 from eBay and you need Live activation code.... you also need to tell your name and mobile phone number... sometimes also MS ask for your live e-mail address

How can I set my phone to notify me (vibrate or tone) when I receive hotmail or an IM with Pocket MSN?
u cant u have to be online to get your mail
technically, you could ping your hotmail account and display a notifier if you've got a new mail. But as musiccube says, you'd have to be online.

I am also experiencing this from time to time, and this is what I do when it is happening.
Disconnect sync cable. Close all running apps on the pda. (I use an app called InClose) Connect sync cable again and I am connected.

as far as i know there is no Answering system works with wm2003
so i think the problem regarding the answering machine has been solved in WM5 but there is no individual application to enable answering system on other wm5 phone edition PPC's like Prophet, is there any answering program like the one used in i-teq?
please introduce it if you any.
here is screen shot of i-teq bond
lover - this is a specific software and hardware solution provided by Gigabyte. It's not a generic WM5 solution.
Have a read around the board on why that might be the case.

The overdub could be awesome too.

so i think this is a software which is in ROM and there is no hardware added, ithink so.
it would be great if some one get that software from the original ROM.
thanks for sharing

The attached, ripped from the ROM, may require other associated files, but I've tried the whole ROM in its complete form. It appears to be non English, so I may be reading it wrong, but let me know if you have any luck.

than you very much but
it didnt work on my JAMin., does any one knows which company is the developer of this software?
Maybe I'm missing something here, but can someone enlighten me as to why you would want an answering machine on your phone when your mobile phone carrier already supplies you with that service? Just want to make sure I'm not missing out on any features here.
i dun think its just a software api that does this answering machine..
most likely to be a hardware inside the phone that is not present in other phones.
It is just a software!
There is a rom (2.03 Beta TofClock Himalaya) and it has this answering machine...
bepe: I think that's specific to the Himalaya. Because of the way the modem works on PocketPC phones, not all (in fact, it seems, very few) have the audio path accessible by the device itself for two way recording.
Have a read through here. If you've had any sucess, please post:

Just my two cents...
I don't think the software won't work on any device other than g-Smart range, it's to do with the hardware of the phone, not WM5. Without this hardware I believe it is impossible to record both sides of the conversation without some massive application, which will probably (a) slow the ppc right down, as will need to be integrated into the OS, and (b) not be that cheap either.
Regards.
just a quick qn.. if i want to try on my hermes, how to i 'install' it?
do i need to tweak any registry settings?

that would be a great app i think!! i'm on pay as you go and orange charge 10p per min to retieve voicemail!! would be super if the phone itself took over and saved an mp3 or something to the memory card!!! no charges!!

You have to be accepted into the beta first (took ages for me)
There is a seperate beta for Windows Live Mobile which you have to join. It's faster if you are already a beta tester for another service.
The project title is "Windows Live for Mobile"
When you have been accepted into the beta, go to http://connect.microsoft.com, sign in, and check the "my participations" listing on the right hand side of the website. Select "Windows Live for Mobile", then on the next page, there will be several download links; An Activesync style installer including ppc and smartphone versions, and seperate cab files for each platform. Download, install, and login as normal, no additional hassle.
I would email it to you, or post it here, but as "WizzarD-me" says, it's not legal (Not that it normally bothers me, but I don't want banning )
If you need help with it, add me to ure msn, an i'll try to help
Brins0 <at> gmail <dot> com
just throw the file at ftp *wink wink*
I'd rather just email it to you, won't get anyone in trouble then...
Gimme an email address. or just join the beta, it's free, and they don't spam you, contrary to popular belief...
I've joined the beta and I have to wait for acceptance I assume?
If you were to email me the file, does your passport ID tie you into the beta, as it initially did with Live Messenger beta (windows)?
No, or atleast, i've not noticed it doing this...
You basically have to sit and wait for it to be accepted...

That's besause there's 2 different versions, an insider would know that
So here's what I've found thus far for the PPC version...
It will only pull windows live contacts down to your device. You cannot fully sync your address book on your device with the windows live services. Also, it has an option to sync windows live mail on each activesync (including wireless activesync) which is cool, but still is not proper push mail for hotmail (i mean windows live mail) Anyone notice anything else major?
Best,

SkyFire Beta Finally Out!!!

Hey Guys,
I has been a long damn wait, but I finally got the long awaited Skyfire first release. I will share the cab here. However, I do believe that you need an account to use it (kinda like M$ did with their new browser)
However, there are a few things about this new Browser:
1. Since this is the first release, it is relatively slow (not in the loading of the page, but in the scrolling, zooming, and anything using flash (youtube, flash games, etc).
2. I am not sure if it has anything to do with the browser itself, but I installed it, I run the browser for a few minutes with a wifi connection, and the next thing I know, my Blue Angel is about to shut down due to having almost no battery (8% left). Did I mention that I had roughly 75% battery 15 minutes earlier? On an extended Battery?!?!?! (~2400 mAh)
I knew that flash apps have the tendency to run your battery dry but... damn!
Like I said, I posted it because I just felt that it was the right thing to do, to share this with my fellow xda-users
Other than that, this looks rather promising. I will update as I receive any new updates from these people.

No BetaTester? Don't use it!
Just found this....
I've taken a look at SkyFire & it doesn't look good. It's not possible to force authorization as it depends on a secret PGP keypair shared between the activation server & the device. A meet in the middle attack would be our next best bet but this is not guaranteed as they're using SSL to encrypt the packets flowing between.
Even if the app were cracked to force successful authorization on the client side it would just freeze & wait for a non-existent response from the authorization server. A crucial part of the activation would be that it compares the IP of the client to determine their geographical location & any place outside the US results in an "Invalid authorization" response.
Another possibility is to access the server through a tunnelling exploit but this highly depends on the configuration of the server itself. I doubt that they'd leave this channel open.
Also something interesting to ponder:
Code:
.rdata:0007BA0C aReset DCB "Reset",0 ; DATA XREF: .text ff_28DE0o
.rdata:0007BA12 ALIGN 8
.rdata:0007BA18 aScheduledAHard unicode 0, <Scheduled a hard reset for tstamp=%d>,0
.rdata:0007BA18 ; DATA XREF: .text ff_292BCo
This is a debug message that would not be displayed to the end-user so there exists a condition where it secretly schedules a hard-reset of the client's device. Nice going, SkyFire

How to update HD2 WP7? (800705B4 error)

I'm getting the error: 800705B4 when trying to update my phone.
So I found a solution on Microsoft's website.
However, the instructions say turn the phone off, which is fine.
Then turn it on, which is fine. But then hold the camera button immediately after turning it on to put it into update mode and this should appear on the phone's screen:

I see. So none of us HTC HD2 WP7 users will be able to update unless we flash a new rom or something?
ive been trying to find out exactly what is happening, i suspect its driver related, or at least partially driver related. ive been trying to find out exactly what is happening and why it doesnt work, but i cant find out exactly what driver is installed when a HD7 goes in to update mode,
ive asked on the HD7 forum but no one seems capable of telling me what VID and PID is associated with the device when it goes in to update mode.

Let me know if you find a solution.
And out of interest, does everyone get this problem when trying to update?
Because I haven't seen any threads similar to this one on xda, and I would've thought at least one person would have tried to update and reported their error by now?
I do. I also can't enter in update mode with my HD2. Absolutely the same situation as you ...
ive given up, i dont have the money to get an HD7 and the hassle of trying to get someone else to do things to their HD7s is too much, im still very much of the opinion that at the very moment updating fails, Windows desktop identifies the device as a LEO device, its not a coincidence, it might not be the whole story but im sure its a big part of it.
to be honest, i really cant be bothered updating the ROM or reflashing as we will need to do, im going to wait until we have some worthwhile updates, ideally even some kind of back up program so i wouldnt need to do it again, in the mean time it works just perfect the now so im not to fussed.

Look people..YOU CANNOT UPDATE THE HD2 WP7 ROM USING ZUNE NOR ANY OTHER TOOL CURRENTLY OUT THERE!!!!
WPSupportTool does NOT work on the HD2. Chevron7 Updater (in my case and I haven't heard anyone else having success) does not work neither!!!!
As for not flashing any new updates to WP7, to each is own, but how much stuff have you got loaded on your phone that you wouldn't want to re-flash with WP7 releases?
I personally can have all my contacts, calendar entries, most of my marketplace and sideloaded apps, and 6 email accounts loaded on to my phone after a flash inside 45 minutes. And it wouldn't take long to put customer ringtones and alerts, and any music/video on there through Zune. It's not as though we have anything to flash again anytime soon. Release 7008 is it until the NoDo release is put out by DFT. Who knows when that is coming, although I've heard gossip it's supposed to be in the next couple of weeks.
Chill mate, think he gets the picture already, we know it doesn't work, I would like to find out why it doesn't, its nit a matter of being impossible, its a matter of finding out why! As for reflashing, I have several apps that are essential, they do not support skydrive so any reflash will mean me losing the data, although in saying that, with everything being sandboxes it might be possible to manually locate and copy it....hmmm there's an idea =). Next project set!
of course, little bit later, we can hack more easily then now. but when i connect the phone to pc. it identifies hd7.

Yep, pretty much this.
I want to find out why it doesn't work, and if there's a solution.

If there was a solution, I think the XDA cooks would have found it by now. Demanding aren't we. WP7 was never supposed to be run on the HD2. The entire OS and UI was built around hardware criteria driven by Microsoft to the phone manufacturers.
Error Code
I also get an error code : 80180048 when I try to update my hd2 win7 with zune. Has anybody also received this message and has it been fixed by anyone yet? Will we be updating any time soon without re-flashing?

So we souldnt even bother to try and work stuff out because "someone else" will fix it?
There is a patch available for a Samsung phone for this very error.
Perhaps it holds the key to solving this issue on HD2?
