[Q] Citrix Receiver for Kindle Fire - Kindle Fire General

Has anyone had any success getting the Citrix Receiver app to work? I downloaded various updates of the app from Amazon made specifically for the Kindle Fire, but I keep getting an error message that it can't connect to my company's citrix server. My IT department confirmed that I had the right settings, and the request appears to hit their server when I try to log in with the RSA SecureID, but it always gives a connection error. They told me that this error sometimes happens when people try to log in with the Citrix app from an iPad or a regular Android, but those devices eventually get through. My company doesn't have a big enough account with Citrix to post a trouble ticket with them.
I found an alternative-- regular Citrix web interface. It doesn't work with the Amazon Silk browser, but I sideloaded Firefox, and with that browser I'm able to get through with the regular Citrix web interface. The touch-scrolling function is a little too sensitive (anyone know how to adjust that?), but Inbox, Word and Excel all show up nicely. I wouldn't want to write a book with it, but viewing and light editing is manageable-- way way better than looking at docs on a Blackberry.
I rooted my Kindle Fire and installed Google Play using @Vashypooh's Kindle Fire Utility (great program!), so I might try to download the regular Android version of Citrix Receiver to see if that works.
I'd be curious to hear other people's experiences.

Help!

I have had my A7 for about two weeks. Although I'm not very computer savvy, it all seems like it should be pretty simple. To activate the kindle app tap it, enter your amazon e-mail & password, and that's it, but I keep getting a message that says I have no internet connection when I absolutely do. With the email app it tells me my username or password is incorrect even though I know they are correct. In addition I don't seem to be able to download photos or music from a flashdrive or MP3, except one photo at a time which I am allowed to use as my background. I have sent two emails to customer support and called them once, where I talked to a support tech whose sole support was as a cheerleader. She knew absolutely nothing technical but said she would ask her supervisor to "escalate" my ticket. That was a week ago and still no response.
Wow, that really stinks. I haven't had any of these problems with my A7. Are you experiencing sign in trouble with any other application?
How are your music and image files saved on your micro sd card? Just wondering if there's a simple explanation... these two issues, while really irritating, don't seem to be related. Tech support for the A7 should be a lot better... seems non-existent.
Re:Help
Can you see the mp3's and photo's in a file manager?
Have you verified that you are indeed Internet connected by going to the browser and seeing if you can access Internet sites?
What application are you running for mp3's and photo's. Most will automatically discover your files.
Have you tried to copy them to an internal micro SDHC card to see if they are accessible? or to the internal disk of the A7?
I don't have the problem with kindle app, have you verified that uppercase/lowercase can be used vs. just lowercase in the entry of your id or password?
Are you using the standard A7 image or Dexters? Have you upgraded the OS image to the newest version?

I've only been interested in trying a few of the other apps. The Aldiko ereader and Getjar apps work. None of the three Amazon apps or the FBReader work. I was using a flashdrive for the pictures, and I could view them in the gallery while the flashdrive was engaged, but could find no way to save them onto the tablet except by picking one and saving it as a wallpaper. When I picked another one, it deleted the previous one. The music I was trying to save was from a Sansa clip using a USB, but reading reviews on Amazon has pretty much taught me that the USB won't handle that, so when I am less discouraged I will transfer to a a micro SD and try again there. I have toggled back and forth from my Amazon account going the roundabout way typing in the address in the browser and trying to get the Kindle app to work (ditto for the email account) but always get the same responses -- the Kindle app says I have no internet connection and the email app says my username or password are incorrect. I have the standard A7 image, but I did do the most current firmware update, which of course wiped everything I had managed to do so I had to start over, but my problems weren't corrected.
Oh, and btw now three emails and one phone call to customer support have gone ignored for about two weeks now. I have decided I will send them a complaint e-mail every day for a little while and if still no answer will "escalate" my own e-mails to two per day.
I would try a hard reset and wiping the cache clear it will clear everything but along with that any possible problem. Remember you have 30 days to return it and or replace it so maybe do that instead of the email campaign or at least in conjunction with the email campaign.

I got my elocity in the mail this week. I installed the 1.3 and the ad hoc fix. I tried to connect to the internet through my motorola backflip with Barnacle and nothing doing. Will someone help?

Nook Personal Documents Service

As in title, I was looking for something similar to Kindle Personal Documents Service for rooted Nook - possibility to directly send/download books in email attachments. I've found this market app com.geolinx.gmail.downloader and it just works!
I've already contacted developer to ask for PUSH IMAP and some kind of filtering (like download only from selected IMAP folders). It looks like these new features are coming so stay close 'cause this app is really nice.

[Q] What do you use your rooted or unrooted NST for?

I'm debating on buying a NST and rooting it and I was wondering what you guys use yours for? What apps do you use?
Truthfully? It's a techie toy that I like playing with. I'm enthralled with the idea of doing so much with what is, essentially, a disposable device. Not that I'm throwing mine away, but I'm willing to risk things with it that I wouldn't consider doing to a more expensive gizmo.
The big draw of the NST for me is the outdoor-readable screen. I'm relegating it to the role of my "beach computer", something I can grab and take along easily, yet get a few important things done when needed. Those are:
1. Reading. I use the stock B&N app, as I find it just fine for basic .epub files. I use the B&N Library for organizing files.
2. Email. I'm using maildroid for corporate (Exchange), gmail and IMAP access (total, 4 accounts). I don't use the Gmail app at all. On demand to save battery.
3. Calendar viewing. Calendar pad lets me see any calendars I sync to Google Calendar. Unfortunately, I can't find a 2.1 Eclair-compatible program that will integrate my Exchange calendar and contacts. Enhanced Email is ideal, but only runs on 2.2+.
4. Tasks. I use Astrid tasks. On demand to save battery.
5. Subscriptions. In addition to a few B&N magazine subscriptions, I have Calibre set up on my home system to download content for a number of newspapers and magazines each night. Those are dumped into a Dropbox folder that I sync to my NST on demand using Dropsync. They all show up in the B&N Library under "Newsstand", complete with pretty covers.
6. Notes. I use Evernote to sync between my other devices. Given the small keyboard on the NST, I'll probably mostly use this to view notes, though I can punch them in on the NST in a pinch.
7. Newsfeed aggregation. I like My6Sense.
8. Casual (infrequent) web browing. Opera Mobile works, but it's no joy to use given the device limitations. Still, in a pinch, it works pretty well.
9. Voicemail. I read my voicemails transcribed by Google Voice. I suppose I could send SMS text messages, but I haven't done much with this. On demand to save battery.
10. Weather. On demand to save battery. I use WeatherBug.
11. Password safe. I use Keepass, synchronized with other devices via Dropsync.
I've also found it handily replaces that stack of magazines on the coffee table, so I keep it laying around the family room when not otherwise in use.

What do you mean "device limitations? With the norefresh hack isn't it relatively quick?

Mostly the small screen size and poor contrast. I haven't found lack of multitouch to be a problem with Opera Mobile (yet). The flicker is annoying, but tolerable. It certainly works on a technical level, and it's fine in a pinch, but I wouldn't call it my "preferred browsing experience". Non-techies will be unimpressed. However, if it allows you to check a reservation when something else isn't around, it's well worth it.
For Opera, you can use a custom CSS file. I recall a thread that had a really nice CSS file that covered most everything on websites.
Questions don't belong in development. Thread has been moved.
reading : Nook original reader, unless I need to buy a book in which case I have to use the kindle app (I don't have a US credit card so I can't buy from B&N)
The only other thing I'm doing with it for now is running Anki, a flashcard program that helps me to learn Chinese (but can be used to learn anything), it's free and synced automaticaly with an online server so it downloads the latest flashcards you wrote on say your computer. (and it also sync. your progress in memorizing stuff)
in the future I'd love to turn my nook into an outdoors computer for text input, and to take notes in class by managing the usbhost function and using an external keyboard, not quite there yet but that's what I'm really excited about

Have you been able to disable sync on the GMail app? I cannot seem to access Account Settings on the GMail app. It does a soft reset when I access Menu->Account Settings for the account.
I was wondering if it is possible to sync on demand for the GMail app.
Am on TouchNooter.

I am able to get into Account Settings on mine, but all I did was turn off notifications. Not sure if that disables the polling. I did finally freeze it using Titanium Backup to make sure. I don't use the gmail app at all.
Freeze is a good idea if you have Titanium Backup Pro, I finally just renamed Gmail.apk.

for me, main thing I need is to read RTL language, as I have lots of Arabic books, and NST is not supporting this natively. I had to root it to get moon+ reader to read Arabic.

PIA VPN can't accept "Connection Request"

Got a Fire HD 8 for $25.00 during Amazon's sale from last week. I used Amazon Fire Utility to install Google Play Store. I did not hide/remove any of the Amazon apps.
My issue is when I try to use Private Internet Access VPN, there is a dialog box that pops up saying I need to accept the "Connection Request." The problem is, I can't. The "ok" selection is non responsive when I tap on it. I read online that certain apps are causing this issue.
Anyone know what app is causing this problem?
I've got the same problem, at first I thought it might be an issue with Cisco AnyConnect so I tried another VPN client and it's the same thing with that one too (OpenVPN)
it's not possible to tap "OK" I don't see any security settings that would prevent accepting either.

Strangely enough, about 10 minutes after I posted this, my Fire HD 8 rebooted and installed an update that fixed the problem. creepy.

Google classrooms

My daughters school has decided to start using Google classrooms for homework. Been trying with no joy at getting classrooms to work on her onyx tablet, either using the app or through the browser. Anyone have a solution?

If your Fire tablet is registered to your Amazon account. Deregister it and start to install Google services to get Google classroom works:
If you have your own Windows 10 PC to use Fire toolbox to install Google services first:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/hd8-hd10/development/official-amazon-fire-toolbox-v1-0-t3889604
After the Google services are installed on your Fire tablet. Then get Google Classroom from Play Store:

Tried doing that, same result. Keeps giving a notification that the account associated with the school needs attention, if you tap on it it brings up a checking info screen then dumps me out and the notification returns.
I have the same exact problem. Anyone have a solution?

I had a similar issue, the true error notification was getting hidden. Google Classroom login with my daughters school account was forcing her to have a "pin" on her device. After I enabled a "pin" (or password) to log in to her tablet then everything worked great!
Try it out, hopefully it works for you!

I figured out that you have to login to the child’s school Google account on a computer browser and then go to “Manage your account”. On the left hand side click security then scroll down a bit and look for the option to turn on “Less secure app access”. Once this is turned “on”, our child’s account started working on the 8th gen Fire HD 8.
