Just wondering, but since Gingerbread is out now: I would love to know if:
a) it can be configured to run on the Wildfire?
b) how/who/when can do it, to make it happen?
c) if there are plans to build cyanogen mod on Gingerbread
Thanks and looking forward to it
You'll have to wait a few weeks as it hasn't been put on AOSP yet meaning the source isn't available. You might see a port of the emulator image on the nexus one as that has been done before with froyo. Once we have source it should(afaik) be a case of modifying the vendors that adeadrat and Jacob are using now to accommodate for the new build.prop etc.

well: I guess that wasn't the warmest possible welcome into the developing world. Hope for you guys that it's not all too rough out there ... I really have fun trying out the different custom ROMs that there are. I would even report bugs, as that's about the only thing I could contribute ...
still am excited to see how the work in Gingerbread for Wildfire is going, since I suspect it will be the last major release that can be run on the wildfire.
PS: This thread may not be completely lost if some folks who are into developing post any announcements on Gingerbread for Wildfire here ...

This topic perfectly answers your questions : [Q]Gingerbread for Wildfire?
I'm not saying anything against you, and you're a new comer, the least would have been to read some topics.
Damn you already ported the gingerbread?! Nice work, How is it? Does it run smoother then 2.1/2.2 or is gingerbread more for tablets then this budget phone.

Good stuff Jacob, hope you get it up and running.
Amazing. Looking forward to it Jacob! =D
good work guys... please refine this rom and make the wildfire a great purchase for all people as it is a great little phone..
Also i don't know if this could be done but can something be done in regards to the resolution of the wildfire... please lol or is there a replacement screen for the wildfire? ......cause i really would like to get another screen and if anyone knows where that would be great.
I only know for the resolution of the wildfire, that there is a pixel density changer (I have no idea if this is any good, but you could look into it if you really want to change it)
Well at least to a tmobile tab?

Contrary to common sense. And making up it's own rules about the English language, XDA will want this question about development moves to General and out of development.

Whatd be so amazing about a Nexus S rom? New look? A (probably) shoddy Gingerbread port? Just make your own theme and/or wait for our own Gingerbread to roll out.

You know you only got fro-yo because it came pre-installed. NONE of the Galaxy S phones in the USA got OFFICIAL fro-yo.
I'll say gingerbread will roll out when honeycomb is released.
Important is ext4 AND RAW GB
It looks like Samsung finally figured out Android for SGS (JPY is very smooth), which should probably mean that next updates for Galaxy Tab (2.2.1, 2.3 or even 3.0) will be pretty good (fingers crossed anyways....).
I don't think a 2.3 port from Nexus S is too important (it would probably require a lot of work, and it doesn't look like the development section of the GT is all that active compared to for instance SGS) - unless the 2.3 upgrade drags out for ever.
Theres a team of devs working on a port over in the SGS forums and i believe one of the sgtab devs has joined in the work they are doing.
As far as an official release is concerned i believe we would be looking inyo 2nd quarter of 2011 before anything comes through. Still waiting for a 2.2.1 update as my sgs flies now on JPY

Ext4? I can only assume you want more storage space? 16gb not quite enough?
Not sure I understand what 'RAW GB' is. Maybe you mean Gingerbread? If so, wait for it to be made specifically for the Tab.

I think that's the point... When Samsung does one specially for the Tab it'll be full of Samsung crapware... A naked Android version would be really nice.
Then compile one from the AOSP Source and dont wait for the devs to do the work! U need to try and error, thats how development works! Dont be lazy and wait for a dev to do it, simply read some articles or guides how to compile from a source, and then get going! Thats what im doing!
Ext4 is the new file system used on tge nexus that makes it blazing fast

We have root and adb/root explorer. Delete what you want.
Just wait till you've crammed it full of memory eating apps. All we need is an oc kernel and were sorted.

Flash Koush's recovery, it's called gingerbread recovery for a reason (as stared in the tread), it converts the important partitions to ext4 from RFS.
You could also start helping get AOSP code working for the Tab too, which is kinda necessary before you just compile it. None of these things are easy, the more people we have contributing to the cause, the less time it will take. The more people just ask for it the more clutter we have in the forums + time answering these questions the longer it takes to do anything.
Yes I know technically you asked if there was any chance, simple answer- I doubt any dev will port a Nexus S ROM, it would be just as easy/hard to build up AOSP to work on it. Porting Nesus S to say, the Galaxy S is quite a bit easier (and that's no small feat!) due to similar screen resolution, etc. Also the number of people willing and eager to do the hard work on say the i900 is maybe 5-10x the number of people working on anything aftermarket on the tab.
So, grab you Tab, read up on android, find an area you're good at and enjoy doing, AND LETS GET HACKING and stop asking!
It's much fun more fun learning something new apposed to following some instructions, trust me.
Great post, btw i am planning on working with this right now if there is a group of people also working on this could you please point me in the right direction so i may be of assistance

No, but it's by no means impossible the first froyo custom ROM's where developed from the emulator images within the SDK so i wouldn't be surprised to see some limited functionality ROM's popping up in the next week or so

There are numerous stable builds of Gingerbread around this section, what are you waiting for?! Battery Life is also very acceptable on CM7 builds, much better than it was on CM6.
Just been looking at the Honeycomb emulator and it looks great, but I don't think it's built with the smartphone in mind.
Regards.
but I thought it is only for tablet. Will we lose our fone function?
this would be too awesome, seems to be cyanogenmod8 is in production, tablets have fone function as well ... so it wont loose any !
+1 it would be really gr8 if someone do us this favor and develops a 3.0 ROM. That would be really awesome.
first of all, sdk's never give a good rom, and second this is just a preview
Ran it on my emulator. Pretty sweet. Though Honeycomb would be much worse since it's for the tablet freaks but looks pretty nice
who is hAve here a link rom honeycomb for dhd ?
can anybody port the 3.0 honeycomb version to our beloved Hero?
they did it to the G1/Magic, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RKEHfOwnSI&feature=player_embedded

That is correct, but strangely all the backlighting of the buttons etc worked out of the box, buttons it is easy to fix if you want.
Just a little test for fun nothing else, also saw that there was support for mdpi so theoretically it could be working on Hero with some manual intervention.
Another thing to, boot up without problems

Yes but hardly anything is working! Even the Nexus one has no audio, wifi, bluetooth, calls!
Yes, it is foolish to ask for a ROM that's meant to run on tablets to be made for phones. But I never have never said and never will say no to a new ROM...
Sent from my Hero using XDA App
Yes it's going to run like ass and our screens won't do any good either.
But... as always, I'm eager to see what crazy stuff the ROM-people come up with.
but the sdk version includes some feature of switching from tablet to mobile mode by simply changing resolution... they won't have included it if it wasn't meant to be run on mobiles, and in 3.1, mobile (2.x) and tablet (3.0) development lines shall be joined (says wikipedia lol). moreover, lots of people out here said it would be impossible to run 2.2 and 2.3 on hero, and right now i'm looking at my rooted android 2.3 hero which is incredibly smooth and stable (way better than with stock os). so why shouldn't it be possible? ele just said even backlight of the buttons worked out of the box, which was not case in 2.x. i'm still believing in our developers (although i can't code well enough to support them ) and i'm sure they'll do some magic
greets, Summoner
Do you really use wikipedia for truths? Anyone can add to Wiki?!
no i don't... i just think it sounds possible... otherwise, there would be two future development lines which the consequence would be that there were VERY different features depending where more / the better devs work on lol^^
i didn't claim it was the absolute truth, otherwise i wouldn't have explicitly said it came from wiki ...
greets Summoner
OK I have been reading threads in this forums and I'm sorta lost and annoyed. I read a thread saying that an official update for ICS can brick your phone so you need to do a full reset or something like that. I am confused as to why an official release 'might brick your phone' and I 'should proceed with cautions'. An official release of any OS should be stable and shouldn't cause such issues right?
I am pretty upset that ICS is still yet released for Galaxy Note, not talking about the prototype but the full software and still with the prototype it is 'risky' to update. Honestly I don't bother with custom OS, I prefer official releases and just have it rooted but now I am looking towards 'PARANOIDANDROID' rom, though I haven't flashed it because I'm waiting for it to be updated (so it can play MP4 and other stuff) but still its released faster than the official full ICS and has several features the android people should have added in the begining that are not added to ics. (Only one thing is PA doesn't have SNOTE which is kinda essential to the phone and I don't think the devs will add it) So because of this I also find it really dumb that our warranty is voided if we flash a custom firmware.
I am really confused as to what is happening and am I wrong at some part, can some one explain and post your thoughts about this topic. My point of this thread is just to ask about the 'may brick your phone' part and to see what you guys think about this entire thing with android and their prototypes instead of official releases and cfw. I truely blame android's (or samsung) latesness in releasing the OS for people opting for custom roms than sticking to the official ones. Android really has so much potential since it is 'open' unlike iOS but they are not bringing their A game to the table.

AFAIK.... paranoid rom is cm9 based which is perfectly safe... so worth taking a shot...
Im on paranoid rom too... working great... going to try the updated version tonight
we are on the same page mate...

thank you kvsandeepreddy for clearing up my doubts, I flashed v1 of PA but lacked a few stuff and am so glad to see v2, but I doubt you can play mp4 files on the stock video player as android needs to release their source code and I really need that feature and hate other players, but anyway hope they would fix it all soon and port SNOTE (which I don't think they will but I keep saying it)
musashiro, I suspect you are still on GB like me and honestly I don't think it's worth it waiting for Samsung to release ICS, first they don't have an exact date for the full release and even if they did release a full update now, PARANOIDANDROID has soo many features that ICS lacks and won't be added.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662802
You can check this page out, it is the ROM, it's super cool and it's screen shots looks promising, also PA has both tablet and phone mode. I find it hypocritical when Samsung promoted the NOTE as a 'Phone? Table?' and force us with a phone mode indirectly making it a phone and making us the same as other normal phone owners when we clearly aren't. So PA sorta fixes it and gives us both phone and tablet mode making it truly a 'Phone? Table?' allowing us to chose which mode we want.

Yea I guess your right, hard to please everyone. The entire aosp and aokp and others really confuse me but honestly from what I have seen so far, (alot of YouTube demos of roms) PA looks the best and the PAD on it is a big deal but I decided not to flash v0.2 yet and wait for some more updates as people are commenting on issues with battery and something about SD and internal cards being switched or something and other issues. I really want that rom but the issues people comment about are pretty crucial to be fixed especially battery so I guess I'll just wait for a more stable update. Is it wrong to say v1.0 is a real release and 0.2 is still beta??
