So you said you lost root when updating to 1.4.2 from your rooted 1.4.1?

Well half way after the update its was still on the nook but google market would not work any more so i chalked it up to 1.4.2 messing up the Root..

never mind i just did a complete stock rebuild and re rooted it fixed it

Clear the cache and data in google play store, and on google framework services. After that restart it.

Help needed with CM7 and google apps

So I had to restore my Nook Color back to factory settings and the reinstall everything and stupid me doesn't have a back up. So I have installed CM7 nightly verision 164 and it is running beautifully but I can't get the Google Apps to install. I have tried EVERYTHING and am on the verge of losing it. I have found different threads talking about similar problems where the fix the problem by reinstalling the zip file in CWM or by connecting to wifi and then market will show up asking to install all the other apps. Tried and nothing, wifi is working fine becasue I can use the internet with no problem even was able to get the Amazon App Store running but not the Market. Any ideas please help...
I had the same problem, and I was able to talk to the person who post a video on Youtube titled "How to Install CyanogenMod 7 on the Nook Color (PC Version)". This is from his description.
Having problems with the Market? Use this version of CM7 instead.
h t t p ://download.cyanogenmod.com/get/update-cm-7.0.2-encore-signed.zip
Then update cm7 with your favorite nightly.
Hope this works for you~

google apps won't download for defy ics

Hi
I rooted my green lens defy and i'm currently running CM9-NIGHTLY-120416-Defy.zip.
I backed up all of my old settings and apps from froyo with titanium backup.Tried to reinstall gmail and maps but they do not work properly.
Also i can't download anything from the restored appbrain marketplace because it says i do not have android market installed, also tried via my browser, it says the download will start but never does. When i use recovery and load my old rom the apps are waiting and download fine.
Will i be ok to install gapps-ics-20120317 and get my google apps back and will this solve my problem?
That would be the wisest thing to do..
Was just confused, because the instructions given in all the threads I've read only mention flashing the gapps file if you have a defy±.My phone is an 18 month old defy. Please can someone else confirm it's OK to flash.
I made the same mistake, caused a right mess with force closes and the like. I started again, went through the instructions, but added in the flash gapps (same one you mention above), and now my phone works fine (apart from some minor bugs).
I'm currently using the same CM9 nightly, and have a green lens Defy.

Gapps have nothing to do with the phone model..For every Android version, the specific gapps is released.. So the gapps for ICS, can be flashed to phone running ICS, doesn't matter if its a defy or defy+

I had the same issues with Play store to download app a couple times. In app manager, select Google play store and clean cache and data. That`s work for me.
Otherwise try wipe data/cache then flash the last nightly from Epsylon for defy froyo, then CM7 Kernel then the last gapps-ics-20120422 then battery ics fix then reboot and restore your app That should work fine
Hope been helpfull

Thanks everyone, all working fine after installing the latest gaps. This was my first root and i'm very grateful for the help i received but the instructions in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432100# could have been a bit clearer.
Anyway, as usual the problems encountered have helped me learn a lot more than i knew before.

[Q] Very Confused About Rooting Please Help!!

Hi All!
I decided to go ahead and root my Droid Razr M tonight. Everything went well and I was able to breeze through all the steps and used root checker to make sure that I had successfully rooted the phone. It said that I successfully rooted the phone, but I am not so certain right now. It was my understanding that when I successfully rooted my phone that I would be able to uninstall the bloatware that came default on the phone. I went into my settings and tried uninstalling the apps like Audible, Zappos, etc and all I get is the option to disable it. Any advice? Any help you all can offer me please?

You can uninstall them, but you need to do it manually by renaming the apks in /system

How were you trying to uninstall the app? Via the app in "settings"? As far as I am aware (and I could very well be wrong), you cannot delete an app via settings.
To uninstall an app, I went through Titanium Backup (free edition) to delete. However, from what I understand, deleting an app could potentially cause issues if your carrier attempts to push an update; for that reason, I decided to freeze/disable/quarantine the app rather than deleting them altogether. By doing so, I believe that it prevents these apps from running in the background, using up precious resources.
To freeze an app, you can use Titanium Backup (the pro version) or I used an app called App Quarantine.
Using the disable option in settings also does the same thing.
I know for a fact that you can delete all the amazon apps, zappos, audible etc those all came from Google play.

[Q] HELP! Galaxy S4 on MF3 | Play Store Crash

Hey, everytime I open my Google Play Store (which I had to get from the internet) it opens for a while, until I try to download something and then is crashes. After it crashes by trying to download something and I try to re-open it, it just crashes on startup and I get a message saying "Unfortunately, Google Play Store has stopped." So this has been happening since yesterday when I used Clean Master to clear up some space on my device, I also link some apps to play using Titanium Backup (don't know if that has anything to do with it) and I attempted to uninstall Google+, and was successful also I applied a custom patch to the Play Store when it worked using lucky patcher. I searched everywhere on the internet and the only solutions i could find are:
1) Clear Play Store and Google Play Services Caches.
2) Enable Download Manager (Which I can't seem to find but I'm not entirely sure on that one so I'll post screenies)
The download manager shown in the screen cap below has no enable or disable option with it)
3) Wipe Android Device completely (Which I did and problem still persisted)
4) Re-Flash ROM. (Which I also did and the problem still continues
So, Im on a completely stock firmware and as soon as I finish going through the setup process feeling relieved I see a notification in my notification shade from the calendar app stating that Google Play Services isn't enabled or something and when I click on the notification the phone fumbles for a second and then the calendar app crashes. After a few minutes, while I was searching for answers, I got my email notifications and everything seemed to be fine. UNTIL I installed the Google Play Store once again, only to have it open and my first attempt to download an app made it crash. And now I'm back to square one. I cannot find "Download Manager" at the bottom of my application list. But I do have two applications under "D" in the App Manager, both called "Downloads".
I'm able to install APKs off the browser just by downloading and installing as normal, and my accounts seem to be working fine. Except the error in the google account "sync error" followed by a message at the bottom of the screen saying sync services are currently unavailable. I'm able to use Youtube and other apps easily without a problem. The only problem is my Play Store. And yes I've already re-cleared the cache and even just cleared the data from both play services and play store in application manager. Problem still persists.
Previous Errors:
1) Device is not provisioned data services error (Which I assume I've fixed because I don't get that error anymore)
2) Google Play Services not supported by your device. (Whenever I opened Youtube, but that doesn't appear anymore)
I'm really out of options this time, I was stumped after I factory restored with ODIN successfully and still was unable to fix my problem. Could this be a Google problem or am I screwed? Really need answers, so THANK YOU VERY MUCH in advance.

UPDATE: I was also able to find my "secdownloadprovider.apk" in my system/app but when I click install is says application not installed...
P.S: If there are any files you would like me to search my device for please say so, I'm becoming really desperate.
New problem
Okay so I decided to wipe the phone once more and re-install the ROM (Which is a stock MF3 ROM that I got from XDA) and the problem still continues, I've been up all night trying to figure this out. Now apps like Google+ (Which I hade to install from the internet on my device) say that the Google Play Services on my device is not supported by my device? What does this mean? It used to happen with the newest version of youtube, now im currently using the old version of youtube which has no problem, and im pretty sure if i were to update it id get the same error. Someone pelase give me some insight. What can possibly be done?

You used all files in the full MF3 Odin? I don't know why it wouldn't work, but your only option may be updating to MK2. It's a very peculiar issue. You could also wipe data in stock recovery and then flash the Odin file to make sure it's as clear as possible.

FIXED IT
After much searching for the problem I gave up and decided to try reloading the stock OS once more and it worked that time... I still have no idea what caused the problem...
Similar issue
Did you ever figure out what the problem was? I'm haing a similar issue with NI1. I'm using titanium backup to restore many of my apps and don't know if it's something I'm doing there that's causing the problem to keep coming back.
I've reloaded stock rom via Safestrap at least twice. But the problem is still there. I can't be certain but i think it may have to do with the syncing of contacts or data with google.
You could always try to reflash the gapps package... If you freeze a part of the gapps package like google services framework, other apps seem to not want to work.

My rooted smt-350 crashed (kind of)

I rooted my smt-350about a month ago using chainfire and odin for my brother. Yesterday, suddenly many of the system apps started crashing, including the default launcher. I restarted the tab, but in vain. It stooped detecting the SD card. Third party apps are working fine but they are also not sensing the SD card. The tab worked fine before this happened. The tab doesn't have custom recovery or ROM.It has SuperSU. I am not an experienced rooter so please explain your solution. Thanks in advance.
Sounds Like you deleted Something you shouldn't have. Think of root as removing the protection that keeps you from screwing up you device. When you rooted unlocked the device and made read only files now read and write files. Did you install any apps from unknown sources(Not Google Play Store)? May have installed a bad app or just accidentally deleted something you were not suppose to. Easy to fix if you can stil get to download mode and find your stock firmware. Then flash it with Odin. Then reroot and be more careful this time and also make a back up with Titanium Backup from the play store(Needs root). Let me know if you need help with this I can walk you though it...
