Battery draining @3.5-8.0 per hour. - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

So guys i am on check rom v6 with fm kernel.
I even tried cf root kernel n francos kernel.
Modem is XXLA4
Flashed ics domination theme
So i installed better battery widget and cpu spy.
Cpu spy says my phone is in deep sleep mode 99% of time. And in better battery it has no wakelocks but still battery uses 3.5% approx per hr even when phone is deep sleep.mode.
Intresting thing is if i put my phone on charging. Better battery says my phone is gaining battery at 30-40%per hour. N then if i remove the charger even after 5min. Phone consumes 0.0% battery and 1%drop can last upto 10hours in sleep mode.
And then as soon as i run any application battery drop is 40%per hour and eventually comes down to 3.5-8% within 15min of closing every app and on putting phone to sleep mode.
Can somebody help.
Pleaseee... i am loosing 4% batery every hour. :-(
N even wifi is off.
Cell mode is gsm only
Brightness down to 0 and auto brightness off
Animations off
Pure black wallpaper
Vibrations off

Hi,
Just curious, have you turn off auto-sync and sync in background off as well?
Also, you may try to see what apps you have on your phone, (as you said your phone's batt drops at 40% when your using any app), some apps are really power hogs when it comes to battery drain...
just my own thought...

Yes i have autosync and sync off and set to manual or never.
Apps i mean like yahoo mail, tank hero(game) facebook app with wifi on. Or using zplayer and sometimes even sending messages makes batteru down to 40% per hour.

Uninstall Facebook app... there are many reports that the stock facebook android app consumes much power than just going to the internet thru the default stock browser and accessing facebook from there..., I don't know about yahoo mail app though but usually with wifi as well, the phone sometimes never sleeps (even if you have already turn off or shut off your wifi connection)
Try to see if you can enable Wifi Sleep policy in Settings>Wireless and Network>Wifi Settings>menu key>Advanced>
Also set Animations to OFF in Display and Screen Mode to Movie..
See if that helps a bit...

Thnx but i tried everything. I forced closed facebook n yahoo mail earlier but its still the same case.
Wifi sleep policiy was set to never. I changed it. Thnx for the advice.
But still phone is consuming a lot of battery.

Maybe it's the battery that is faulty? Can you swap battery with someone and see if that helps?

Well, I think doing a Factory Reset would do the trick.. Try it and don't restore or install back most of the apps first, just observe if you'll still be getting the battery draining issue or not (perhaps an hour or two...... if not.. then, slowly install/restore one by one your app, and check on your battery after you install it...
I'm pretty sure, one or some of those apps (you have) are the culprit to your main battery issue...

I dont think so because when i unplug the charger and put my phone directly on sleep without using any app. The phone gives an awesome 1% drop per 10hour.
But as soon as i use a single app and then put my phone on sleep it gives 2%drop per hour.

Make a backup of your current ROM.
Revert back to stock GB + root & CWM. In the process, make sure you wipe dalvik, data, cache, and battery stats. Stick to something like LA4 or LA6 radio.
If the problem still persists after doing this, you know it's hardware-related. If it doesn't, it's the software on your current setup.
It's too hard to pinpoint over the internet as we don't know what apps you have going, etc.

Install badass battery manager, n check, if any perticular application sucks battery.
If not conclusive, try hard reset. Then full disharge n full recharge battery.

Sudden battery drain & hot phone; CM7, CM9

In general, the battery is very good on the Galaxy S.
But, I have been having a strange battery problem since CM7:
The phone would suddenly heat up (near the upper back portion of the phone; near the camera) and the battery would drain very fast.
Currently running CM9, 20120330-NIGHTLY-galaxymtd, stock kernel.

2nd pic:
A = Normal usage (you can see the gradient varies with higher/lower phone use)
B = Airplane Mode overnight
C = Normal usage
D = Strange super fast battery drain
From times provided, there is a 14% loss in battery in 37mins 38secs, which gives a battery drain of 22.3% per hour.
The phone would last less than 4.5 hours.
You can see that the phone is not being used from the Screen On bar. The phone was simply sitting on my desk at work.
Normal usage drain would suggest less than 10% per hour.
***
Now, I have always assumed it was a CyanogenMod bug. But recently found out that a friend's Nexus S (stock everything; 4.0.4) also suffers from a bug with the same outcome. I have an inkling that the problem may be Android based, but I have no way to be sure.
Is this a CyanogenMod problem? Could it be an Android bug?
Is the problem isolated to the Galaxy S and Nexus S?
For a while, I thought that toggling Airplane Mode will halt the quick battery drain. However now, I'm pretty sure that it has no effect.
***
I have tried aLogcat, hoping to see one process getting hammered repeatedly but there doesnt seem to be anything suspicious happening.
Is there anything I can do to see what the problem might be?
Are there any other apps that could reveal the problem?
I haven't yet found an official bug post similar to this yet, so please post it if you find anything similar. (Posts like "OMGz batry porblems!" dont really count)
***
Lastly, before anyone blames me for downloading crappy apps which have caused the problem, I only have 35 installed apps, and I stick to the popular ones: AirDroid, aLogcat, Angry Birds Space, Barcode Scanner, BBC News, Chrome Beta, ES File Explorer, Facebook, GMail, Google Finance, Google Goggles, Google +, Instagram etc...
The less popular ones are: Ice Cream Sandwich Clock, Shareprice
Thanks! Hopefully, we can get this issue sorted.
Never heard of that problem before. You should look if it also appears on stock ROMs and on CM without any apps(only the one you really need. But I guess it's a hardware issue.

It could be many things...but I'd be suspicious of apps... Facebook transfers a lot of data in the background for example and I'm not even sure they updated for ICS yet.
I'd try logging out of those apps before you get to that level of battery drain and see if it still happens.

Same Issue
I have the same issue. The phone is not in a case while charging. The metal plates that keep the SIM card and the SD card get very hot to the touch. Sometimes the battery percentage gets stuck, so I have to let it cool down before continuing to charge.
Does anyone a way to fix this?
I'm using a Galaxy S GT-I9000M running Cyanogenmod 9 Nightly 20120503.

You're suggesting that whenever "Mobile network signal" turns red it occurs?
I'll look out for it if/when it occur again.
Any ideas what it could be if it were the case?
Polling to connect too often?
(I assume "Mobile network signal" refers to 2G and 3g signals?)
Thanks.

With 0503 my phone is draining only when I start using Internet. The draining is about one percent per minute (very fast).

When using the phone you would expect the battery to drain faster.
Try to take a larger percentage loss over a longer period of time; it isnt very accurate using tiny numbers.
My phone was more or less idle for the duration of 22% loss per hour (you can see when the screen was on via the relevant bar).
I have the same problem too.
I don't know why. It's just have battery drain and hot with cm9 or miui.

Yes exactly. The phone begins polling the mobile 2/3G network and begins sucking power. I'm not sure how or why that would cause such drastic drops in battery but the graph seems to suggest that they are connected in some way. Data is known to drain power and if the system is repeatedly attempting to connect to mobile data while the signal is weak it may take more resources.
I could definitely be wrong here. Just an observation.

+1 on CM9 0506 battery drain (1% per minute)
I know for a fact my phone is not the problem cause this bug does not happen on Gingerbread ROMs paired with Semaphore Kernel.
I also have a pair of Anker 1,800mAh batteries, plus the original 1,500mAh Samsung one and they are all draining really fast on both HSDPA/3G and 2G networks. Under WiFi it drains a bit slower. About 1% every 5 - 8 minutes or so (with screen always on as well). I live in Brazil and I use TIM 3G+ as carrier.
By the way, my phone heats up A LOT while I'm using the browser or Facebook App internet without WiFi, just using the 3G network. But I've also noticed that Facebok app had almost 30% of battery usage. Since it's the app I use the most. It didn't use to be that way on GB ROMs. But after the recent Facebook updates I wouldn't be able to tell since I've been using ICS CM9 nightlys for over over 3 weeks now.
Every time I install a new nightly I make sure to wipe cache as well as dalvik cache. I do that procedure both before and after installing a new nightly ROM.
The only thing I changed is the launcher. I use APEX Pro 1.1.1 instead so I can backup my settings and desktop apps if something goes wrong and I happen to do a full wipe.
I'm running latest update-cm-9-20120506-NIGHTLY-galaxysmtd-signed.zip with stock, default kernel. No Overclock or any other mods.
Other than that, I think this is the best ICS for my i9000. I experience no FC's and no Low Storage problems. The albums are not quadruplicating my photos like other ROMS and the compass works great on Google Maps. By the way, 3D gaming is just great with v504. Real Racing 2 runs nice and smooth on it.
Thanks for the great work Devs and sorry for making this too lengthy.

I can't really be sure. I haven't checked their battery stats at the time of the drain, so all I'm going on is that they agree with my description.
He'a a bit of a noob so I'm not sure if hes just agreeing for the sake of agreeing.

Following from your comment about Mobile network signal polling. You would expect a toggling of Airplane mode to disrupt the battery drain, right?
I definitely toggled it during the fast drain... maybe toggled too quickly for the network to shut off
Will try it again, if/when the fast drain occurs again.

Have you tried the mDNIe Mode settings in:
System Settings > Advanced ?
CM9 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Samsung Stock
***********************************************
Anyway enough of the derailing...
For the people who get this fast drain issue:
1. Is your phone connected to Wifi when the fast drain occurs?
2. Are your Wifi settings set to Always Keep Wifi on during sleep?
Could you try setting Wifi to Never use wifi during Sleep?
System Settings > Wifi > Menu > Advanced Keep Wifi on during sleep = Never
And then report back!
Is it possible that Always using Wifi during sleep, even when you are not connected to a router, can cause the battery drain?
This is only a guess, but I'll run this little experiment too. Maybe we are getting somewhere?...
Thanks.
EDIT: I believe Google have inverted the wording on this. On 2.3 it mentions Wifi Sleep... and now its Keep Wifi ON during sleep.
I am suggesting turning it to "Never (increases data usage)"... [as opposed to Wifi Sleep = Never]

33% Battery Drain Overnight

I am experiencing a weird issue with my Battery Drain. I am on PA3.1 and since the time i have installed the ROM i am experiencing an overnight drain of about 14% - 18. However yesterday my battery fell to almost 33% overnight with the same config. today also it is behaving weird with 1% drain per minute of browsing.
Also i am not able to understand as to why SetCPU & Trickster are showing different values of Min Freq. (I might have done something unknowingly or am i missing something here)
the pics are attached for reference as i could not make out anything out of these....
The first pic is the earlier one -- at this point i was thinking of how to improve the situation and now it has gone all the more worse
i had the same happening to me out of the blue. i had a couple of apps installed that recently got updatedand and caused a mess. line for instance and a couple of deskclock add-ins.
check this stuff - delete apps that cause trouble. line for instance lost me as a customer
heres a diagram, that thing sucked away 30% overnight

normal for this rom is 1-2% . after i deleted these apps its almost flatlining (each gap is a night in airplane mode)
i would also recommend not fooling aroundwith the kernel. stay stock, googles kernel is great. there is absolutely no need for custom kernels unless you're missing key functionality like tap to wake, fast-charge or whatever.
Download "Greenify". It'll stop all those apps from waking up without your knowledge and hibernate them.

Looking at the graph i dont think it was some app as i have not installed any new app in between.
(though i will monitor closely the wake locks). Also from the beginning when i updated to PA the battery drain overnight has been ~18%.
Already have Greenify working for me
Also please give a view as to why SetCPU & Trickster are showing different values for minimum.

Okk last night i kept my phone on WiFi and the discharge was only 5%. So it seems that 3G is taking a lot of battery. Wake lock app do not show any wierd app as such. With the graphs that i posted could someone get an idea as to what is happening.....
And to repeat why SetCPU & Trickster are showing different values????
The same thing happened to me yesterday. Just out of the blue my battery was dropping around 1-2% a minute also. I'm on PA 3.1 too. I charged fully and did battery calibration this morning and it seems to be running a little better but still not great battery.
It's worth noting that when this happened i took my SIM out and put in my S3 (since I wasnt going to be near a charger and my batter was already at 50% after 3 hours of being off charge). When i came back home about 6 hours later it had not even dropped 1%. So I also think it is related to the 3G network
I'm almost 100% sure it's an app. I've been there before and at the end it always is an app. Doesn't really matter if u installed it just yet or weeks ago. I used for example widget locker for some days with no problem and suddenly it prevents my phone from sleeping and just drained it like hell.
Just try to find that bad app! I'm sure its there.

So what are u saying? If u get kernel wakelocks it can't be an app causing the battery to drain?
If u check CPU spy i think u will see that your phone won't go into deep sleep. Caused by an APP and not kernel related.

Try another kernel, i personally prefer it stock, franco is a great alternative.
Yeah idk what it is either. I had Paranoidandroid 3.15 running on my nexus for about 2 days, with custom kernel in WHEATLEY mode. Battery life was atrocious. It would only stay alive maybe 6-8 hours before I needed a charge. Switched back to CM10.1, same custom kernel with WHEATLEY, Ran my phone for 15 hours last night, and battery level was still at 60%. Not going back to PA

I did, I some much did it. I do not remember any more which one gave the best/worst result.
Tried AOKP, CM, PA with Franco, Matrix Kernels. Still no result for the sleep (overnight) drains.
Or I think I should stop comparing battery behavior with my old Gnex.
Install stock ROM and kernel. Wipe everything!!!! Data cache dalvik cache etc etc. And start without installing apps and try this for at least 3 days.... If problem is still there you probably have a faulty battery.... If not , it must be an app giving u so much drain.
Other solution is get CPU spy and check if your phone goes into deep sleep. If its not going into sleep then u have found your problem... Next is to find the app that's keeping your device awake....

I will try your suggestions, thanks a lot.
1. Which CPU Spy do you recommend? There are a lot of apps in the play store with the same name.
2. FYI, Using CM 10.1 and kernel, I have disabled Wi-fi, Auto-Sync, Greenified everything except Whatsapp, Facebook and Gmail, and %25 of the battery lost overnight.

1. Doesn't really matter, as long as you can see if the phone goes into deep sleep. Try CPU spy plus free. You see all your frequencies and at the bottom deep sleep.
2. Sometimes trying to hard make thing worse and doesn't help finding the solution.
I've got the same problem and after a few days of search I found the bad app....... Widget locker kept my phone awake all day!
Deleted it and back was my battery life

Try running something more stable besides experimental builds with potential bugs/leaks/drains if you have to depend on your phone in order wake up and keep your job... I'd recommend also buying a real alarm clock otherwise..

Android OS draining battery?

Well my nexus has been giving me 5 hours SOT for the longest time, but just randomly, it decided to start dying really fast. I checked battery stats, and sure enough, android OS is the killer here. I'm aware android OS drains are usually because of apps installed, but I haven't installed anything new or suspicious any time recently. I even did a full wipe and reinstalled the rom I'm running.

Are any of these apps known battery drainers?
Here's my battery shots.
Anyone know how to troubleshoot which apps are killing my system? I'm running CM 4/22/13 and franco.kernel r127 if that makes any difference.
Thanks guys!
If your phone has been on standby for that long then obviously androidos will be up there since nothing else has been working your battery. Post the pics so I can clarify this.

Nah because when it happened (at least for me) the battery drain was sudden and drastic.
All day Screen was at the top, then all of the sudden in the evening Android OS went from 15% to 74% in about 15 minutes.

Pretty much my scenario
android os thing happened to me, i think for me it was because it was trying really hard to connect and stay connected to the bad wifi at my school, turned off wifi and the drain stopped. not sure about ur situation though

This might just help you out. It'll show you any partial and kernel wakelocks and which processes are causing it.
I had this problem a while ago, so I did a clean install of my rom and apps and the problem was gone. If you can pinpoint the app that's causing your phone to stay awake, you can avoid having to do what I did xD
Really weird... this has been happening to me too, but not as drastic as yours (still a good chunk)
I just reflashed my ROM just in case that was the problem.
Also when I used better battery stats to see what's going on, all it showed me was the power manager thingy. Which showed me nothing.

That's all it ever shows when it comes to Google services jacking up the phone. Kind of convenient for Google since we can't pin down/point blame for the issue

Turning off WiFi when idle at school seems to have helped. I did notice that when I got to my house it seems the battery drain is more normal. Maybe it really is because the WiFi is just slow.

i have this problem with my galaxy grand phone ,the battery discharges in 20hr , default OS was 4.1.2 official samsung , i changed my rom into a slim custom rom based 4.2.2 , but the battery has same problem again , Android OS battery Usage Was 80% !!!! and screen usage just was 9% !
my installed software :
Viber
WeChat
MyKet {Like Android Market}
Weather Widget
i used wifi 1-2 hour in a day ,

first go to Settings -> Developer Options -> Apps Tab -> checked Don't keep activities
set brightness to auto
then go to location services -> off access my location
then go to wifi -> advanced Wi-Fi -> keep wi-fi on during sleep -> change to Never
now go to application manager -> Running Tab -> Force stop some apps with extra ram usage like settings
my phone just uses 5% battery in 13hr sleep mode ; ENJOY!

I think if you only do this you will solve the problem.
At least for me my only problem with "Android OS" is when sleeping my phone and having "keep wi-fi on during sleep -> Always".
I have franco kernel and cannot check the kernel wakelocks but I test some days with CM kernel and didn't see any kernel wakelock that consumes too much battery... but maybe some of you have this problem: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?p=1039838404
Wow, what a surprise... I solve my own problem with my last reply xD
I mean, when I installed CM months ago I select "keep wi-fi on during sleep -> Always" because I thought that if I don't do this I will not receive any notification. The fact is that when putting "Never" Android OS was CPU active mostly the 80-90% of time my phone was sleeping and Wifi ON and now with "Always" (or when plugged) has CPU active like 20-30%... AND I receive notifications also.
Probably when downloading a large data If I put my phone to sleep It will stop download, I didn't try.
One thing I don't understand is that when sleeping it doesn't use mobile data (as it says "Increases data usage"), even I have data and wifi on.
So, if I get notifications in both options ("Never" and "Always") and I get less battery drain with "Never" I prefer "Never".

There is a bug in google backup service, google backup service acquires wfii connectivity lock and does not release it for hours which prevents device entering deep sleep and as a result drains battery. Fortunately you can disable backup in Settings->Accounts->Backup and Reset-> uncheck 'Backup my data'. This should resolve the issue ... after a full recharge monitor your battery stats - Android OS should NOT be on the top.

Sorry disabling backup didn't help - encountered the same problem. There is indeed a bug that some OS module that holds a wlan lock but it's not a backup service. I suspect that full charge triggers this flow. Device restart will temporarily fix the issue. I'll post if i will find the causer, sorry for mislead.

Battery drain when idle

Hi Guys,
I just got my LG G2 and so far lovin' it. I just noticed a battery drain problem though.
I left my phone at 87% when I went to bed at around 12am, this is with WIFI and Mobile Data off. When I woke up at 7:30am, it was down to 71%. I checked BBS and the number one item under Kernel wakelock was bam_dmuc_wakelock.
I've read multiple threads regarding this but have not found a concrete solution. One thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/-t2688930) said that this is normal and some app may just be causing this.
Here are the current apps installed on my phone which were also the same ones installed on my HTC One X where this battery drain problem does not exist:
BBS
Dolphin Browser
Facebook
Instagram
LinkedIn
KK Keyboard
NBA GAME TIME
Olympus Image Share
Simple mp3 Downloader
Speedtest
Tapatalk
TeamViewer
UFC
Viber
Whatsapp
Youtube
Can anyone help me with this battery drain issue of mine?
Thanks in advance!
If you rooted, you can try Greenify to identify the culprit.
Maybe you can check battery settings to see what is eating it up?

bam_dmux is for mobile data so anything that keeps mobile data connection open it will show up. Stands for broadband access multiplier demultiplier.
so the problem in question should be simple, what app is continuously using your mobile data connection causing the bam_dmux_wakelock
The thing is, my mobile data is always off when I sleep. Is it possible that Whatsapp and Viber is causing this? I mean even though mobile data is off, can they be trying to look for a connection thus causing the wakelock?

BTW, I installed Deep Sleep Battery Saver and tried it last night when I went to sleep at 12am. When I woke up at 7am, the phone only discharged 4% now.

ive had issues with facebook eating my battery on a bunch of devices. when removed i see a dramatic change in battery life. that is my experience, and may or may not be concrete enough to say that it would be the problem for battery drains.

well like they mentioned earlier you can try greenifying whatsapp/viber or other apps(different apps on a daily basis) to try and find out which app is cause the wakelock, but remember that if you use any of these on a daily basis then greenifying them wouldn't be a good idea(unless you only greenify them when you go to sleep and when you wake up you ungreenify them)
I'd probably try your suggestion about using greenify. I usually use whatsapp and viber a lot during the day. My only concern was the amount of battery getting drained at night when I go to sleep so I guess greenifying them at night does make sense.

yes but its not an actual drain you can see on the top it has only wasted 5% battery(in 7 hours that doesn't even amount to 1% an hour), even though its off it remains in a low energy state(idk why it does though) if it were actually draining battery then the cpu time would be almost the same as awake time(somewhere around 5 and 6 hours) and percentage drain would be higher but I have noticed that after about 2 months on kk(for me atleast) I had started using Bluetooth a lot once I got kk whether to stream music or connect controller to play emulators my Bluetooth doesn't false positive anymore instead it either shows the actual time it was used for(usually a couple hours every day sometimes 3 or 4 out of lets say a day I got 14 hours total use) and another thing I noticed is if I leave it off it will give me the false positive or if I leave it on all day and let it connect/disconnect to the different devices gives me actual usage time

to change kernel speeds you need root/custom kernel and I don't know how to do the battery calibration test
I think I found the problem.
When I leave my phone on during the night, I turn mobile data and wifi off, but my connection is still LTE. I was noticing about 10-15% drain as soon as I wake up. What I tried was to set the phone to just use 2G (GSM), still leaving mobile data and wifi off. I woke up this morning with just 3% battery drain.
It's weird though because I get very good LTE reception so I don't think that a poor LTE connection was causing the problem.
Does this mean that LTE really consumes that much battery?

Android System Battery Drain

Anyone else experiencing a battery drain ~ 28% Android System usage and 23% screen on time (~4.25 hours) with 20% battery remaining. Any solution to this? Probably a wake lock?
Yes battery drain alot
The only solution work for me is turn on upower saving
If you have rooted u cant disable wakeclock service. You can find in forum

I disabled the s health app which has helped, still seeing around 20% usage from android system though.
I bet that you have Dropbox sync on. I am not talking about uploading new pictures to Dropbox automatically, I am talking about ur phone downloading all your preexisting pictures from Dropbox. This stupid feature is on by default and killed my battery until it was done syncing. I have since switched off this stupid option. It shows up as android system drain because it actually unrelated to the Dropbox app. It's your gallery app that's doing all the downloading.

Anyone still using Greenify out there?
on my device disabling location reporting seemed to help a lot with the Android system battery drain
I use DU Battery Saver to turn off all apps and network when screen is off.. also, you can disable apps from running in the background when the screen is off too.. I don't have the screenshot, but I got about 21 hours with 5 hours display using this method.. I'm also getting a 4500mah battery too.. so hopefully that helps.. Also, I tried going into 'ART' mode and found out that the DU Battery Saver Widget went up by 2-3 hours.. so hopefully Lollipop can help extend the battery too.. I found out that under 'Location' in the Settings you can use 'Power savings Mode' for the GPS, and also turn off the Google Reporting and Location (on the bottom)..
I got my phone two weeks ago but i just started having this problem yesterday. I went to turn off location reporting and under recent location request, i saw Unified Daemon and it had high usage. Prior to having this problem Unified Daemon was not in the list. Could this be what's causing my problem?
Edit: I hit force stop and turn off and its now out of the list. I'm going to keep watching it to see if this fixed the problem.

On mine, I get an average of 50% deep sleep and 50% at 300mhz with "msm_hsic_host" as the main culprit.
Weird. Monitoring my apps, none of them use wakelock more than seconds per hours.
