Hi I just read about this DSP manager thing and have a couple questions:
1) Does this work with Xperia X8?
2) Are there any other methods for having a louder sound on the X8's speaker?
My wife is really pissed with this phone's speaker level, she used to have a W580 and I modded it, so it was a really loud phone, and the X8 is falling behind the old one... only good thing is I might get the X8 and give her back the W580 LOL
thanks in advance!!!
PS: First post yay!!!

DSPManager works perfectly in J008 (in J009 has got some bugs).
If you want it to work properly, you need libaudioflinger.so and libaudio.so compatible with DSPManager
Maybe it will work also in froyobread after dx finishes the theme engine I guess dsp manager is next on list

port DSP manager in ROM gigger jeperela (the best sound)..
but if ROM 2.2, ROM colinux thebest sound cuz DSP manager ported from gigger jeperela
Absolutely true from dare-devil inside...this DSP manager is not working on 2.2 rom...only can run on some custom rom on 2.3 gingerbread..dont try to run it on 2.2...might ruin your speaker here..
Volume boost
Thanks for all your comments, I will try Volume Boost and report here how things go!!!
Edit: No change whatsoever on speaker volume. I guess she'll have to live with it...
I recently installed GingerDX V009 ROM to my GF's X8 and it includes DSP Manager and works like a charm.

i'm not an audiophile, but a music lover.
for me, arc sq (with good pair of iem) quite premium (little bit tiny & into fun side sound -better than samsung but can't beat my rockboxed clip & iphone elegent sq).
i've been too long with 2.3.3, so i made some update.
1st: miui, not much complain, i think some improvement than stock. i'm a minimalist naturally & love the ui (& whole experience). whatever goods in ios & android merge in miui. but i leave it because not really good experience in video & battery consumption like hell.
then i'm just going to the most develope rom, 2.3.4, stock & custom.
my nightmare are started: THE MOST CRAP SOUND I'VE HEARD FROM MY ARC.
so my question: why no one mention about this sq issue, or just no one care about how it sound.
i not really know about software developement (at least maybe i'm too lazy or too old to learn) but i hope there's someone do something about the sound side, like maybe sgs voodoo kernal.
* just come back to 2.3.3 & i can sleep well again, at least, i'm too lazy to charge 2 devices (arc & sansa clip).
Well, I m using 2.3.4 SE stock rom since september. Nothing to complain about it. Maybe you don't use the eq presets ?
Sent from my LT15i using XDA App
I turned off xLoud cos it seems to distort the sound rather badly. I'm not really sure that it has any effect on the sound of the headphones, but maybe try that?
Also, try giving the equalizer a tweak.
no eq, using cheap soundmagic iem, stock player or other hardware decorder player (ubermusic for usable widget since using go launcher).
come back normal when flashing back 368.
dissapointed because i'm choosing arc because of audio (& great screen - when holding head on)
I'm a bit of an audiophile and I am also disappointed by the arc sq: ridiculously low volume and tinny sound. I will try to downgrade the firmware and see if sound improves, but it's a major pita.

Hello everyone. I made a video earlier today to demonstrate the general functionality of ICS on the Note. This is Chainfire's repackaged Chinese leak (ZCLP1). CLICK HERE for the original thread. I have made some customizations for smoother operation. I thought it was going to be a 'short' video but turned out to be 40 minutes long. I have divided them in 3 parts. Feel free to check them out if your having doubts about installing the leaked ROM.
Edit. A fair warning, the videos are amateur at best.

No, I don't think I have any banding issues at all. I have attached an image posted by someone else here. It's a great way to find out if you have banding issues. You can try it with varying brightness and you'll definitely notice the issue if you have it. Btw, there is always going to be banding if you use anything that is black/grey on the LOCK SCREEN. This is not a display issue. I think the lock screen has a greyish transparency overlay that causes the banding. Other than that, it's pretty smooth sailing.

Thank yu so much for that imformative set of videos.
Does Samsung include Swype keyboard as an option with ICS as I did not see it listed in your video?
Also, have you had a chance to play with voice control at all? I wounder if Samsung\VLingo is going to be a part of ICS build for GNote and maybe they have made some much needed improvements to voice control on the GNote.
I have had a lot of inconsistency with Voice control over bluetooth with the current setup.
Again thanks for your work.

Samsung does not include swype with this build. However, you can always download it from the market. And thanks for mentioning voice controls, Claude! I tried it and works like a dream. And I have a little guide HERE if you would care to take a look. It has step-by-step instructions for getting the exact same thing you saw on the video on to your Note. Have fun flashing, Claude!
Thanks Acidburn89,
I will likely use your guide and go for it over the w/end. I have recently upgraded my rooted GNote to substancer's XLA6 Deoxed and zipaligned tweaked ROM here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416192
with Vertumus' ICS Domination v1.1 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1467985
and am playing with that combo for the moment, Rooted and all.
I hope I am not out of line or not being PC here (If so, let me know and I will change this reply) in giving links to other efforts on XDA.
Regarding voice control;
Is it very different in ICS than in GB?
Is it still Samsung Powered by VLingo?
I use Plantronics Voyager Pro+ BT headset and have come to resign myself that Voice Control via BT is not reliable at all, totally inconsistant in it's behavior for me. I push the BT button and sometimes VLingo responds that it is ready (after telling me the number of calls I miseed, etc. and sometimes it just tell me what I missed and then stops dead in it's tracks. I have to push the button again and start over. I could go on about this but I would be hijacking this thread. I hope that Voice Control prooved to be clearly better and decernably improved in ICS.
Thanks again for your info and efforts in helping the rest of us get a leg up on ICS.

In a community driven development forum, I don't think there is much politics to begin with. The voice control is not the vLingo one. I think this is the ICS
version of google voice. But it functions exceptionally well. Has a very siri-ish feel to it. I will try and post a video sometime soon.
Btw, I use a Sony Ericsson MW600 bluetooth stereo headset and it works perfectly fine.
Edit. I think it is called Google voice search and voice actions and not Google Voice. It does offer personalized voice recognition, so i am guessing it will only get better with more usage.
Thanks for the video!
I don't know why, but honestly, I felt kind of sleepy watching the video. hehe. Maybe you should be more active, or have a drink (alcohol) to cheer up while recording the review.
I had been using super smooth home screen navigation and convenient features of ICS on Nexus S, but recently upgraded to Galaxy Note. The Note's stock interface is sometimes kind of laggy though. I really hope Samsung releases ICS soon, but I'm also kind of worried they might be delayed just like all the other Android devices. Nexus S (AT&T version) still didn't even get an official ICS update.
Nice videos.. very informative mate... only watched part 1.. part 2 & 3 later....
Can you tell me which case are u using on the note?
This mod will fix the following things:
- Inverted volume keys during a call
- Better sound adjustment during a call (before sound was either too high or too low)
- External speaker (no more distorted sound)
Follow this steps to install:
1) Make a backup in CWM
2) Download the zip and place it on your SD card
3) Flash zip in CWM
4) Wipe cache and Dalvik cache
5) Reboot

If there's any improvement with the sound quality I can't tell. Before I applied your fix I had the following problem (I believe several others had it too) when I made a call the in-call volume was very high and if I tried to decrease it the volume became very low, there was no option in between and the only way to go back to the high sound was to reboot. Now there is no such problem and I'm happy. There is no sound distortion nor the sound has become more clear. But as I said no more pointless reboots required
Ok now we know that this fix works in MiniCM10 too
I did some test today in MiniCM9 and it seems that there is no more distorted sound with this fix (sound is now like it was in gingerbread roms). I noticed this while watching youtube videos.
This doesn't fix the external speaker, huh ?
Sent from my E15i using xda premium
For me external speaker works better than before and i noticed the difference when setting ringtone volume. Without this fix i had to keep ringtone volume to the minimum because sound was too loud; now i can increase volume to the level that i used to use in MiniCM7 without sound distorsion, so for me external speaker is fixed (i'm using MiniCM9, don't know if it's the same in MiniCM10).
EDIT: I changed thread name and description so now it should be more clear
I don't have a problem on the Mini CM10, but then again I didn't have a problem before

nAa should merge it in his builds :good:
I did some test in MiniCM10 and i can say that in-call volume seems better, volume keys are fixed but the sound of the external speaker remains the same (still too loud). I'll try to find a solution to completely fix audio, but keep in mind that this bug will be fixed in the next release of MiniCM10, so just use it in MiniCM9 for now
EDIT: i have find a way to fix audio in MiniCM10 and i'm actually testing it...i'll upload a new fix tomorrow

I didn't take this libs JB Mini Project (i haven't downloaded your roms yet because i'm using MiniCM9) ...i mixed libs which i have on my pc and after many tries i found the working libs...i really didn't know that these libs are from JB Mini Project and i'm sorry for posting without giving credits
If you want I make a fixed lib for minicm10. Not require use mixed libs, but the headset recognition not working... in the ics lib source only need change farfield to farfield_headset and change the voice volume value to *5 and add vol = vol + 1; line. So the incall volume is goof, external speaker good, but headset not recognised. I dont know how to fix it...

The Mega-Audiorific Atrix Discussion Thread
Drumroll please... Wait... How could I forget about the bass.
If you are lazy with listening to music (shame on you), skip to 0:56
This thread is here for 2 reasons.
Code:
1. It is hard to find the information I'm about to provide.
2. I want people to provide their insight on anything music related to the Atrix such as the following:
Examples:
* What music player app do you like the most on your Atrix?
* What audio format do you listen to normally (MP3, FLAC) with it?
* What apps make your music sound better on the Moto Atrix?
* What rom makes the audio sound the best for you?
* What music sounds the best on your Atrix?
To keep this thread in this subforum however, and not the General Android Discussion section,
I ask that you only provide answers to these questions regarding the Atrix, and make that known.
This is not a "I love this artist!" or "I don't think you know very much about music." thread.
Please keep replies to a minimum, so that this does not get flooded with flamers or Nazi's (no offense meant...sorry if I offended).
Everyone has their opinion, and they have the right to defend it, but they don't have the right to attack with it.
Be mature. Pushing opinions on others will get you nowhere. Opinions are opinions, not facts.
Without further ado, let's get started.
And I will start with the main reason audio sounds generally better with your Atrix.
The reason your Atrix sounds so good is... (dun dun duuuuuh...badum ch!!)
The Atrix 4G has a dedicated audio chip in it! =3 It's a medium-low end Wolfson chip.
Hard to find the info for it, but I wanted to know what made PowerAMP with FLAC
sound so good compared to an iPhone with ALAC. (both with equalizer off, charger port on iPhone -> Audio jack/headphones)
If you do some digging, you'll find this to be true.
I'm going to miss my Atrix when it becomes time to move on to another phone
I have my eyes set on the HTC One X+ or the Samsung Galaxy S4,
depending on what my budget is when the time comes.

Cool. I haven''t heard of XenoAMP. I'll check it out.
I guess I can answer the questions with my answers. Also, future readers, please don't think that you have to use these questions, specifically. This is a discussion thread! It's not just a poll!
1: I've used PowerAMP since I got into FLAC. For me, nothing has beaten the audio quality and ranges I can get out of PowerAMP.
2: I guess I answered this in #1 and my OP. I love and always will use FLAC. With that said, the best way to do this is to purchase the CDs yourself! To be honest, most local CDs are the same price, or even less expensive, than iTunes or other markets (Import albums, of course, cost more usually). Not only that, but you get upwards 10x the quality! How can you beat that? Seriously, try sticking an official CD (not burned from iTunes) in your car radio, if you have one, and hear the difference for yourself!
Of course, I understand that MP3's are way smaller, and going along with what andresrivas said, not everyone has a 16+GB SD card. xD
3: I will say that when I used to use GB, and I was testing out audio, I didn't feel like spending time working on PowerAMP's 10-band equalizer. It was just too much. So, I looked into other apps, and found that Equalizer helped to make things sound better, using its 5 band equalizer and many presets that I actually used to use. Check it out if you're looking for a better equalizer for your entire phone! (I'm guessing XenoAMP does something similar?)
4: Actually, recently I trying CM9 out (krystianp's version with the 3.1.10 kernel), and my phone sounded better than I heard it immediately upon restoring my PowerAMP app+data through TiBu (Titanium Backup) Pro. It was amazing, and I hadn't even changed the usual preset's settings that I used. For some reason, CM10.1 by Epinter doesn't sound as good though, which saddens me...
5: Drum & Bass. The phone and the audio systems I regularly use are able to really pick up those residual base backgrounds along with the short, punchy beats up front. Also, Hifana's albums sound amazing! You can check one of their songs out here, if you're interested. I linked to track 12 because it's awesome and shows you their style, but you will need to sign in to listen. I highly recommend this site for listening, because it's much higher quality than Youtube (almost lossless, it feels like), and they have a lot of albums available for free listening...
If you want more of Hifana, listen to that whole album, and then check out their Channel H album. All of their music is good, in my opinion.

Sorry to hear about that.
You should try searching the forums, something like "Atrix 4G no sound" or "Atrix 4G sound issue". Adding your rom name or searching "stock" in addition to those might help if they apply to you.
I realize that you're just commenting on your situation (and not asking for support). Thanks for this.
If you're on stock, I can't help you much anyways. I haven't used stock Atrix in 2 years. I would search first, as per XDA rules/requests (plus it's just being courteous), then ask in the Atrix Q & A section of the forum. Perhaps a rom reinstall might help? (You can Factory Reset without rooting/unlocking bootloader)
Make sure to read instructions in the General threads, and of course the Beginners' Guide. They might help as well.
Just thought I'd try to help
(For future readers) This is in the general section, so support questions don't apply here. I'd also prefer not to have support question clutter. (I know you weren't exactly doing so, crack.mech )

Thanks for the suggestions Drakonas. I have been flashing different ROMs for a while now, and it doesn't seem to help. Though I hear some sort of crackling noise through the headset when I turn up the volume to full while playing music. As per my (re)search this seems to be a flex cable issue, but seems a bit wierd, as the speaker is not connected via flex cable ( I have opened up my atrix a few times!1 ). So I seriously doubt replacing the flex cable would help. But except for the audio issues, my atrix is still going strong, all thanks to the great developer community here.
And, I am seriously sorry to hijack this thread. Please accept my apologies.

1. Yep... I like it too.
2. Hey, whatever suits your preference.
3. Yeah, with some tweaking of it, you can get good sound. (This is from/for CyanogenMod roms for those who don't know) If I'm listening to music with PowerAMP, though, I don't like DSP Manager on. It's my preference, since I've customized PowerAMP's 10-band equalizer myself, vs DSP Manager's 5-band equalizer. Running 10-band through 5-band can defeat the purpose of the 10-band, but it depends I suppose.
4. Love CyanogenMod! Are you using a popular rom, by chance? I don't have the knowledge to customize a rom yet, so I usually just use one of the pre-built roms out there. My favorite for CM7 on the Atrix was Neutrino, but I changed to Atrix-MROM because it had the same battery-life and even better performance for me. Plus, the developer knows more what he's doing. He's part of the new 4.0 Kernel Project team.
5. I don't really listen to heavy metal, not anymore at least. I guess I grew up around teens that listened to it and thought it was the most amazing thing ever. (plus they often didn't care to try any other music. This probably differs you from them, hopefully ) I soon learned that there are thousands and possibly millions of styles of music out there, and there's more around every doorstep. I've spent the last 5 years building my music tastes, and I've switched favorite genres about 20 times, until I found the underground 20-year-old Drum & Bass scene.
But to each their own. Any specific artists that you like? I used to listen to DragonForce a lot, but I guess that's more Power Metal than Heavy Metal.

1. Hey, saving music in the cloud can be really useful. I guess the only reason I wouldn't want to is (A) I prefer FLAC which isn't usually provided and (B) I don't have a data plan currently, so playing on the go would be impossible. I have a lot of space anyways... I suppose you have a phone without much space to hold music?
2. Again, space. Plus I suppose it's the best format to use with Play Music.
3. Yeah, DSP really helps with MP3. I agree. I will say that if you get better headphones, you'll get better bass and clarity. I recommend some $10 to $20 Koss in-ear headphones for the lowest price, if you're not the person to have money laying around. Off-brand are usually crap, like Skullcandy. And for goodness sakes, if you want high-end headphones don't buy Beats by Dr. Dre. It is well known that they are overpriced pieces of crap compared to what you could get for half (or even less) of the price. Get some Audio-Technica Over-the-ears if you have that kind of money.
4. I love MROM. Best CM7 for Atrix in my opinion.
5. Nice! Make sure you check out Autechre and Flying Lotus, if you haven't already!

Sorry for my bad English
How about adding links to all music enhancers... i.e. dsp manager, beats, voodoo or what ever else they have for Atrix... And I know voodoo is not for Atrix...
Sent 4rm My O.G. Atrix on it's Lapdock using Weptop+... Which let me add is so Extra F***ing Beast... Galaxy S4 can't touch this...
Atrix MROM with Shure E4c
Nice to know there are still Atrix fans. I am addicted to the sound quality delivered by Moto Atrix since 2011. Now I have three of it (one 2.3.4 as mobile, one MROM with minor touch screen defect as music player and one brand new as spare).
music app -> DoomPlay (it plays additional ALAC, 24bit96 WAV, BUT play mp3 may distort);
audio format -> mainly 16_44 WAV, some ALAC;
app sound better -> DSP manager with enabled bass boost set moderate, enabled equaliser set acoustic;
rom sound best -> MROM with DSP manager
best music sounds -> M.J., The Carpenters, Korea OST like ht tps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6n5Ho9n9OPM
Moto Atrix drives my shure E4c earphone pretty well. No portable amplifier required.
Instead of MROM, I find the music sound seems a bit better from my Atrix 2.2.2.
I can feel the pure silence, position is more accurate and more crisp clear.
