Back to the future
Hi,
I'm from the future and i will leak you sensitive information that Android 5.0 is named lollipop. It features a new design called material design and will be released in November of 2014 so you guys still have two long years to wait. Kitkat is next. Also the head of android will be Sundar Pichai.
I hope i haven't disrupted time continuum.

Old news is old, but thanks for the effort.
Good to know that they are aware of the Q4 rumours and have squashed them.
Hopefully they roll out the update in the early part of September.

It's not old, it is a new announcement from 2 days ago.
Someone here on the forum claimed that he has some internal information from Sony saying that the updated will pushed back to Q4 due to performance issues, and this new announcement reassures that the update will be released on Q3 as promised before.

I didn't mean old as in the passage of time but rather old as in that specific tweet had been discussed to death already. Was just trying to inject a quick quip before the hordes descended on the thread and flamed it into oblivion.
the announcement is very important. There has been a lot of rumors flying around the market. In this particular time, the consumers do need the official clarification instead of just guessing themselves. Thanks to SE UK for making the announcement again, which should have been done on the SE product launch blog.

thanks for the information.
O Nozzz!
Without my upgrade tomorrow to 2.2 all the other kids in my class will think I am 2% less cool than they are!!
I read on the interwebs that Sony lied to me, and I will never ever ever ever forgive them. And I am going to cut myself.
/sarcasm
Was wishing to get it before school starts.. Guess not... BTW, we get to keep all our stuff/settings in the update right?
Here in denmark x10 will get a update next week, but don't know what phone of the xperia series it is

People make airplanes for 6 months and SE needs that time to implement OLD 2.1 on X10 device...they could build whole new X20 phone for that time.
You say "A" update are we talking 2.1 or what (Im dane as well) and where do you got that from
Oh it just say a updaye not what it is and just that it will solve known problems

I wouldn't set foot in an airplane that was designed in under 6 months
SE sure take some time, but I'd rather have them deliver a well refined 2.1 then some quick fix

Heh, airplanes take years to design, test and build. The 747 for example started development in 1965 before entering service in 1970.

But to carry on the analogy, porting SE's UXP to Eclair is more like taking a built 747, redecorating it, and putting some useless demo apps in the cockpit to help navigate .

More like taking the blueprints for a 747, building a new body but keeping the infrastructure underneath while adding a fourth floor. It's not as big of a task as building it from scratch but it while take considerable time to develop, test and then finally build it. Might not take five years, but getting it done it under two would be a massive accomplishment.

Too soon to talk about Android 5.0 we just get 4.0 in our Atrix...Enjoy ICS please
The article says "However, since Android 4.0 did not perform as well as expected, several of Google's downstream partners are turning conservative about Android 5.0"
What's wrong with android 4.0. According to me this is an awesome improvement from previous versions.

Finally someone from Costa Rica! jajajaj I have the same phone! Well, Motorola is gonna update the Atrix by Q3 of this year.... Right now I'm on CM9 so far, I love it! Hopefully will be finished soon, however I have it as my daily ROM!
On topic: about Jelly Bean, i think is gonna be something like a change in the UI, nothing that big as jump from GB to ICS... who knows! let's see what google has for us!
My understanding is Jelly bean is not really going to be for phones much like how Honey comb was not for phones. instead it will be more of a tablet only OS.
I'm sorry, but I fail to understand why we need to begin a new thread to discuss tye hypothetical announcement of the next version of android.

I personally think it's too early, not so much for a new update but for a 5.0. Though for all we know it might not be 5.0, just rumors saying that. My bet's on 4.1. Not quite sure if it might change current 4.0 upgrade plans. Just my two cents.
Don't worry, I'm pretty sure Google is already working on Android 6.0.

I don't think this is correct as MY understanding is that ICS was to unite the OS of both tablets and phones much like IOS does with ipads/iphones. To create yet another new OS strictly for tablets would defeat the purpose of ICS as I understand it.
There is also the idea that it's primarily for netbooks/notebooks.
This thread shouldn't be filed under the Atrix lounge. Navigate to the Android fora if you want to talk JB.

this is fake and reposted by several morons (Not OP) but those who actually spread the world out of the 1.st bad source
jelly bean is butter smooth, even in alpha, so no need to get bad sources who hasn't even tested jelly bean , it runs faster than ICS on a dualcore.

also samsung modifies the JB so it will probably be slow lol. but their features are amazing tough

Seems like a B.S. story. Hardware is not a problem and Samsung would be pretty stupid to stop the support for their best sold mobile to date.

All this hype about JB is a lie, and topics like this should be deleted. No official statement from Samsung, and these tiny bloggers wants to gain users and that's why posting lies or fake news.
I suggest not to believe in such news, and wait for official statement from Samsung which should come up once the source code of JB gets released i.e. July 15.

Yep, my sources confirmed it will launch on October 25th at 10:25 AM PST - also it adds the ability to run iOS and blackberry apps (believe it or not!)
Also my sources said google released 4.3 last week just to trick the general population into thinking 5.0 is not coming.
:good:
I think Google has it ready but is just trolling us. Everyone was way too excited so they sent out a minor update. Lol
Sent from my HTC One
No 5.0 will not come, they will update gradually until about 4.5 or so and it will be Jelly Bean all that way. Then after that it will be 5.0. Since google is moving all their features to apps in playstore they have no need for major updates instead they can keep doing these small.

I experience more lag when I use my mother's 4S or my girlfriend's 4S.

Considering some people are still on 4.1.2 waiting on 4.2.2 and even the Google Edition hasn't received 4.3 yet, I think it's a bit premature to have a thread with wild speculation about an Android iteration that's likely many months away for this device.

4.4.4 is on the table for us, it is only a matter of time before that is released to us. If they have waited this long to bring us 4.4.4 then there is obviously a good reason behind it. I'm expecting the bug fixes what the other devices got with their 4.4.4 updates along with a host of Z3 features. From Sony's viewpoint it is best to bundle them all into one update and get more hype behind it than to do two updates (the initial one to 4.4.4 and then a feature update) and not have the second update covered as much.
Good news.
This is probably part of the changes in Sony's strategy. Two things happened:
a) Sony changed its flagship strategy, indeed one flagship per year is the new strategy plus more value to the people that supported Sony till now by buying a new flagship every 6 months.
b) Android changes on how "vendor" apps are distributed. Vendors can in android 5.0 push apps via play store for different markets/customizations instead of creating hundred of firmwares one per customization. This make it much easier for internal development and distribution of new firmwares.
