[Q] USB hard drive recognition - Eee Pad Transformer General

I cannot post on the developers forum so am here instead.
I am using EOS nightlies and everything is well except that my usb hard drive is not recognised. It is recognised by Revolver and revolution.
Any thoughts on what may be going on.
Jim

You should post this in the eos thread. I think you should be able to post replies on a thread....but not start a new thread.
Anyway...its possible the kernel you're using either does suppport you drives format...or you have to load the module to supoort it, manually.
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk

You're right. I'm using Teameos nightly 18 and it can't detect my external drive. Maybe NTFS driver is not there.

[ATTEMPT] Enable USB OTG host mode

I'm working on USB host support on our i9000. With the help of Galaxy Player kernel sources I think we manage to do this. Galaxy Player DOES support USB OTG host mode and is almost identical to our Galaxy S, the main difference is lack of GSM/CDMA module. Same CPU, same USB switcher (FSA9480) etc. Kernel sources looks promissing. You may say that i9000 is not able to provide power to power the device, but we can use self powered USB hub to do that
Look at the sources:
SAMSUNG OPEN SOURCE RELEASE CENTER -> Mobile -> MP3 Player & Etc. -> YP-GB1
What a great news! Following with interest!
Since this is not yet development, I will move it to general.
As soon as you have something ready, you can open a new thread in the development subforum or ask me to move the existing one.
Cheers

Right there, first line:
"USB On-The-Go, often abbreviated USB OTG, is a specification that allows USB devices such as digital audio players or mobile phones to act as a host allowing a USB flash drive, mouse, or keyboard to be attached."

Rom question

hello guy's.... maybe this question is relative but I need some direction...any one can tell me what is the most stable rom for iconia a500?
thanks.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
I would suggest any of the Near stock 3.2.1 roms WITH Stock kernel..
Also the rom by Moscow DESIRE IS A GOOD ROOM . .
Fallow all flashing instructions..
good luck..
Thor's Roms based on HC, are pretty good and stable too, just as long as you are not prejudice about who is following gpl or not... Also his ICS ROM is good too, with the exception of camera not working yet...
MD's Alexandra really good.
Civato Flexstriker is good.
Both of those are based on Base HC 3.2.1.
Personally i have played with alot of roms and currently running Honeylicious, but its not available any more. After playing with quiet few ROMs, i came to conclusion that all tablets are dam temperamental. Just because some Rom worked perfectly on some one's tablets from the start; dont mean it will work perfectly on your tablet OR Vice Versa. Which just mean you will have to put little more time in, but in the end they will/should works perfectly. So take your time and play around with ROMs.
Thanks guys for the advice...

I'm actually using Honeylicious 3.2.1, but it seems disappeared from XDA..
I don't know why..
It works pretty good, just a problem when I try to insert my ext hd
For the rest it is very stable e fluid
i believe the developer left xdas iconia forum. Something about sold his device.that rom was based on roms by civato. search his threads in the DEV AREA
Good luck

Try Drive Mount from the Market
3.2.x supports a fat32 partition (sometimes), but if your HD is ntfs, you need Drive Mount.

Shouldn't be a rom bug, KJY used 100% stock OS and kernel. Maybe something got corrupted a little, who knows. only takes 1 bit of 0's and 1's to make a mess Maybe some "rogue" app.
But if you reflash, and it doesn't matter who's rom you use, and it freezes again, well, it's probably a hardware issue. Either the tab or the hdd.
I would guess anyhow. Reflash, and check it before installing apps. If it's FAT32, should see it no problem. NTFS and you'll probably need Drive Mount.
Good luck!
EDIT: Also, try stuffing a flash stick in there, and see if it does the same.
It's best to try and isolate the problem. Can the table connect to a thumb drive with no problems? Can you access the external drive with another device? If the answer to both of those questions is yes, that would point to an issue with the tablet firmware. If the external drive works but the tablet doesn't work with a thumb drive either, it may be a hardware or firmware problem.
Jim
some hard drive enclosures just do not work well with the Iconia chipset or drivers. This would depend on who made them. .
I have a few that work flawless. One this is actually a better brand no luck at all.

I don't know, I got this
problem with 3.0.1 PB stock, then I updated it to 3.2.1 PB stock and no freeze with the same hdd plugged in.. Then flashed with MyG100w rom (by XDA) but no try about this problem.. 3 days later i flashed with HL 3.2.1 and it freezes the touchscreen with hdd plugged in..
The hdd is working pretty good, no problem with PC's or tv's, just some troubles with this tablet..
It's a expansion 1tb by seagate, 3 partitions ( 2 ntfs + 1 fat32) and when the USB is correctly plugged in, there's a green led always lighted up, with my tab this led is on, so it's correctly plugged in..
I don't know if I'll reflash the rom, because between a little time will arrive ics.. i can wait for it.. Or maybe I'll reflash before, i don't know

Quite a while. It won't happen until they get the 3.0 kernel done. You can follow the development here, but don't ask them for an estimated completion date:

Which method did you follow for installing CM9?
Is it new or upgrade from other rom?
Produced by NookColor at ICS 4.0.4
Not sure, its one of eyeballers nightlies. And I'm guessing I'm not putting the correct cm9 program on my card, are their different mods for your hard drive then their are for the bootable sd card? Now my problem is that when I put my sd card with cm7 back in, the nook had to reload its stock rom I guess cause when I turned it back on it said something like it was reloadIng original image. Then I had to register it again. What's freaking me out is that now when I run My cm7 sd card, its running choppy, things are force closing in every direction, when before it ran perfectly. Have I somehow shot myself in the foot or is there some way to fix this? Thankyou for your help

Purple-you should look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1696400
Did you use an open GL cm9? I'd almost bet you did. Follow the instructions given by dizzy and leap and it should get you going. I tried updating from cm7.2 to cm9 open GL (I think June 11th) and mine blew up pretty bad. Not even a restore from a back up helped.
CM9 on SDcard install
I've been running CM9 for a couple months now. I installed a fresh image on a Sandisk 16Gb class 4 card using Samiam303's variation on Verygreen's procedure and update occasionally using CM9 nightlies from http://techerrata.com/browse/nightly_kangs/encore (see [ROM][NC] Unofficial CM9 Nightly builds - with/without OpenGL). It's been pretty stable, a bit slow at times, but mostly works with the notable exception of Netflix and USB/UMS.
I did run into one other glitch when going from the 6/13 to the 6/20 nightly OpenGL update. MTP stopped working. I tried several different driver configs on my XP machine without success. Going back to the 6/13 nightly brought it back and that's where I am now. LeapinLar solved the problem for ADB by modifying the .inf file which might give a clue to how to get MTP working, but that's stretching my capability. This and many other useful tips are in his post [USER][TIPS]CM7/CM9 User Tips From LeapinLar.

Netflix does not work for anyone. But UMS and MTP should work. For MTP, but sure USB debugging is off in development settings. For UMS, it needs to be checked in settings and when you plug the cable into the PC, a dialog should pop up saying to turn on USB Storage. Be sure to select that.

It won't work. Although the hub is present, the board doesn't provide the usb with enough power fot otg to work.
To get otg working, you will have to edit vbus and voltage values. It is very dangerous as it can fry your usb and/or the entire SoC.
So i would recommend only experienced members to do it.!

OTG support missing 5.1.1 custom build

Hello.
First time here. Forgive me if not right place to post.
Since android 5.0+, my support for OTG is missing. I'm on CyanogenMod.
On kitkat using CyanogenMod, I had that. Is there something I need to tweak before building to get the OTG working, or I'm missing a line in manifest? Every functionality works with my build, except the OTG.
I've done no changes or tweaks to the cm source when building. I just sync and build, but since 5.0 onwards, my OTG doesn't work.
I plug in USB pen drive or any input device and nothing happens
Thanks.
