beatz audio reality? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

hey dev guys, this is for u.
while roaming around the xda, i found this threadhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24205983.
so it says even if we have a fully working beats files, the audio o/p we are getting from it, while beats is on the run, is just half.
and for the total o/p, we should have to use the driver too.
so my doubt is this, do any of our kernal( sense,cm7/9,miui or ics) have implemented such a driver from a beats device? or can some work on it?(audio driver only)
i used beats and have jbl in-ears. so it gives good highs but not such good low( when compared with my se c905 cybershot phone with a changed audio driver and a patched megabass eq settings). but i heared that beats audio is one of such a f###ing thing in terms of bass!! so i like to get it in hd2 too.. thats why i posted this.
for those who post reply, pls dnt tell ways to boost bass with any apk like dsp/ eq manager or so. this is about audio driver from beats kernel, and is only about it. so give reply so.
i am attaching the zip file for checking( flashable/ copyable beats files that can give u half the beats experience) http://i.minus.com/1333149794/cmDv4RaG5F9p8yHVz6MQQg/irBiV9DKDRmiD.zip

I would like to hear some answers on this subject also.
Though this does remind me of this news post. Were these files removed because it enabled beats on non-HTC devices?

its still available some where in the forum. but the thread may be removed due to multiposts or wrong zip. i got the file from xda. dnt remb the thread.
well i have read more about beats and it says that the files+ driver will give ultimate results and not the driver or files along.
waiting for some dev to reply...

From my research on beats audio (done approx. 6 months ago for my HP laptop) beats audio is simply a rendering agent. It is what takes the sound files and in terms decodes it. For example, if we took a phone which came with beats audio on it, and played some sound file through it, took some measurments of decibel levels and then removed beats audio the quality will be reduced.
From my readings and research, there is no Beats Audio "specific" hardware. But, the phones and devices which have beats audio, do have better speakers on them so one can hear the better quality.
I personally tested beats audio on my phone running Dorimanx ROM with my Samsung headphones, and using the same headphones music file and everything, but taking beats audio off, DID result in poor sound quality.. For a good example, the sound quality was almost "muffled" and not as "3D" or "stereo" sharp.
So all in all, what ive learned, having the correct files for rendering the audio, WILL increase the sound quality. And is a 100% beats emulation. As per a "certain" driver, i dont think there is such a thing, all beats audio needs is the rendering files.

Well i use Volume + (Sound Boost) found here in the android market and there is a selection of "Beats audio emulation" however i installed a beats audio . zip file via cwm and tested, then flashed stock rom and tested. When i tested, i did not have Volume+ installed as i wanted a stock result.

i got it all, and i know it. but the thing is is our non beats device is fully capable for giving pure beats experience? i dnt think so, coz when u have a driver that donot support it fully, it wont gonna change that much. so its the driver that do a part.

Hi guys I ve tested volume+ with beats emulation enabled (don t know if it s the same as flashing the zip file).I can confirm the audio with my beats studio headphones it s different, not too much but it s different...I can notice a little bass boost and other little changes,I like the audio more than without beats enabled.I would like to try the zip file, but do I have to enable something then or it s automatically enabled?cause if it s automatically enabled,it would be a little difficult to compare the audio with or without beats

i personally think that it makes difference, and feels different too. i downloaded this from the beats thread, i guess these might help.

So you need only to flash and is everytime enabled? or you can enable or disable the mod?

This is the beats audio android general forum link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525226
I m trying to flash right now,after a backup ;-)
I ll let you know if I can enjoy some difference in sound.Today I ve modded the black monster cable with mic and answer button that came with beats studio headphones. Now I have the official htc remote instead opf only the answer button...i will post pictures
I can confirm there was at least a little improvement in audio quality flashing the zip file...I had almost the same result with volume+ emulation but it gave me some systems crash.I m in dorimanx last rom and kernel,I removed dsp manager and volume+ before to flash. This is the picture of my beats studios with modded monster s cable,I m waiting for the new white soft silicone cover

K. I am sure that all or most of u have take a look on beats. And i have done it already. Also have a google music with beats icon ( actualy its a change in icon only- the speaker icon is changed with beats icon so if we play music, beats icon is displayed insted of speaker icon, got it from wildfire forum on xda, thanks and credits to the dev). Along with it and beats files, its total(???) Beats experience. But the htc music player is supposed to give more effect along with beats audio driver( "libaudio.so"- its what i am taking about, from the begining). Htc default music player with beats support wont work on asop roms. Its for sense roms. But even sense roms for hd2 use kernals from dorimanx, fikert, tytung etc.. and dont know from where the "libaudio.so" is obtained( i mean i dont know if its a port from a beats driver. And i barely think its not coz, hd2 android existed long before beats was born for android!!). Also if we change the driver, the kernal and rom( and ofcourse the hardware too) should support it. So i think its a serious "dev-business ". And for those who are satisfied with current o/p its a "flash and use business " only( sorry if i mean some thing wrong. But i never mean an offence).

Sry. But i am not that serious dev. Its always worth to learn from masters. And besides not all have all skils..i have some. I want to learn. I have doubts. Some of them may be stupid, some may be worth for ideas. But still they are doubts. As my policy is this- asking "why" helps me to learn, and asking "can" help others to think via me. Thats it. Quality never means loudness. If so you should buy cheep china phones with 8 speakers. And about 5-6w rms o/p..

You re right, but I noticed at least a 10% higher volume in headphones and loudspeacker. Also audio quality seems a little better if listened with a good headphones set, with my beats studio now bass are more intense, and the whole song it s a little better.

But i dnt know if beats can do some thing with phone speakers. But sure it will do with headset. U can experience reduced noise, loudness compression, better high and low, and good virtualization. (Only if u use good headset)
If u want an increased sound on phone speakers use xloud mod from sony roms.
But my point is if u feel better now, it will be best if u have beats driver too. I am currenlty studying driver source now. To find out what it is. And may be( chances are very rare as i am not a dev) i could figure it out. And if i can, i need some devs to compile it, and make a working one.

I checked this attachment. Its ok. But it have problem, it wont let u to use any eq apps or even dsp( checked it with wildfire @ cm7.2). All will give a fc. The one i posted on first post( its on minus server) is a moded one which will enable u to use dsp and other eq apps along with beats.

I personally didn't think beats was all that great but alot of users like it so i made this flashable version for my rom. Figure everyone else would enjoy it as well. It does replace some files though such as services.jar and framework.jar. I have only tested it with my rom but it should work with any rom but i suggest making a nandroid backup just in case.
This is the full beats with icons and eveything
Now with HotSpot working (Thanks Leoisright)
Sense Roms ONLY
Anyways just flash it in recovery and enjoy
Now has universal updater-script so it can be flashed on any device But probably will not work so try at your own risk !!
A few have reported that it flashes on other devices and it boots so it may just work on some.
This is developed for the Evo 3D it is on the portal and because of my title it says for ANY Sense rom but it was made for the 3d. but if you want to try it on other devices i strongly recommend a nandroid backup before testing. I'll be looking into the possibility of multiple devices soon. Sorry for the confusion..
If you are getting FC with Music try the FC-FIX and see if it works and post if it did or not. I am trying to figure out what the problem is

TB-Beats
TB-beats fix (only flash if you are seeing fc's in music app
I'm currently running gingeritis 3D and Chingy ported this over in his ROM, now I hear a slight difference but i assume by HTC it was made to best be heard using beats earphones/headphones. Have you tried this and confirmed it working?
Yeah. most are saying its best used with Beats headphones. But those already have amplified bass. So I dunno if they are just thinking it works better or not.
I cant flash it on my phone (well not yet at least) the stock music player wont load on my. I broke it somehow. . I do however own a set of very nice headphones that are better audio quality than 'Beats' but cant test the new audio stuff yet... Would be nice to get a little deeper bass with stock music app (once I reflash a clean ROM)
What difference did you notice?

a very slight difference on stock ported gingeritis, but when time permits I'll make a backup and flash this and test it out. Hope someone has tried or is trying this and keep us informed, I also read from adrynalyne that 95% of the beats ports where fake so...I'm not sure if this on a software level or if this includes hardware.
Most people commenting in the original thread are saying they hear a difference. But it might be all in their head.
As far as trying this out, he stated this was is based off desire HD roms because of the sense 3.0. And Im pretty sure our roms are also based off the Desire HD rom for the sense 3.0. So theoretically it should work... but we all know how well those go... Hense all the warnings i put in the OP.
All it is is some compression and.altered eq...maybe a bit of gain....on a pair of studio monitors it.makes everything sound ****ty but for a pair of cheapo headphones it might have some benefit, I also noticed it accentuated audio clicks, glitches, things that overshadow the whole objective of the app/dsp in the first place.

This is kind of useless unless you have a beats optimized output device
You should have killed me, when you had the chance
Read this

Go to the software part, it tells you pretty much what "beats audio" does to the output. That being said, I have a pair of beats pro's and *maybe* noticed a tiny difference at the most. Most likely all this does is take the stock EQ and bump it up in certain places, if it actually does anything at all.
No go on synergy r267. Shows install went ok. Cleared davlik and cache.

that made me LOL. Beats optimized output device...? So... over priced headphones?
I tried the beat mod on chingys Gingeritis. It does slightly increase the mid bass. That was the most noticeable change, well besides the fact it also greatly increases the hi's so the sound doesn't become muddy. And as stated before you will definitely hear crackling on max volume.
I have played audio out both to my car stereo via head phone jack and to my headphones (definitely not cheapys, and better than any "optimized beats equipment") Its all the same noticeable difference. I haven't tried on my cheap ear buds yet, but will give them a good run tomorrow when I take my street bike out for a Sunday put put.
Using this mod does disable the stock EQ that is built into htc music app. or at least it did on my phone.
I will officially classify this mod as 80% hype and 20% function.
If you have anything professional you wont need to eq anything that was recorded and mastered properly. I promise.

Its not like I need more bass or high end out of a radiohead album, the Guy who's best at deciding the equal of everything already determined that. All of this post processing bull**** is just to make wank headphones sound "Fuller" "richer" but by no means more accurate, and to be honest a complete waste of CPU.

I wrote this on rootz, figured I would share it here too.
People seem to forget what beats are about. They don't make the music sound "better" they make it sound "clearer". You want "better" sounding music then yes, the others do a good job of that. But if you want to hear the music, how it sounds to artists in a studio, without extra filters, eq's, etc. put on by Bose, Sony, and the other manufacturers, then Beats are the way to go. I'm going to guess none of you have ever been inside a real studio (not your friend's basment with a mic and a padded wall, that isn't a studio) so you saying that beats don't do this, and are all marketing bs, don't really know what you are talking about.
I have had the Solos, sold them and got the Studio's, and sold them and now have the Pro's and I can say I have never heard music clearer before than I have with these. Want to know why the base sounds "deeper" or the treble is "louder" with other headphones? Because that's how they are made. Beats are made to sound exactly how the artist made the song in the studio and wanted people to hear it.
/endrant
I am an audio production major, my school has a multi million dollar studio and no one uses beats. AKG, SENNHEISER, AUDIO TECHNICA are the three major brands for lower end accurate audio reproduction. Truly "clear" headphones are electrostatic such as the ~$1000 stax in Japan, they require their own amp. I think its hillarious that you think beats (which have over accentuated lows and highs...to give compressed music come off of a ****ty audio driver (like the tbolt) a bigger richer sound? More accurate? Absolutely not recessed mids are guarunteed when you "eq" a set of headphones like beats chose to do. The most hillarious part is were in a discussion thread talking about a plugin that does that same eq/compression/gain bull**** and above poster is repping beats to be about accurate sound reproduction. You obviously know a lot less about audio than you pretend to....
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
Not to mention with all of the money they put towards marketing, Justin bieber beats, p diddy beats, lady GaGa beats....its obvious that its directed at the commercial consumer market, NOT FOR THE AUDIOPHILE/PRODUCER. Go test a pair of ATH-M50s if you don't believe me...
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
Case and point, beats useless, if you really know how you want your music to sound use playerpro with dsp pack, if your getting cracking, then lower your preamp and get a better output. My brother works the sound board for the starland ballroom in nj, very big venue, and I'm assistant production manager. We have had everyone from Justin bieber to as I lay dying. Beats that you guys are using isn't even the true beats that comes with whatever phones its coming with these days. Do some research and you'll find that out
You should have killed me, when you had the chance
And what I mean by beats optimized is its set up to work best with the way beats headphones are set up...is that alittle easier to understand?

Aww. I thought this was a free pair of Beats Audio for Gingerbread users.
Darn it ... I've been waiting for this, but I'm on ICS
I would post in the original topic asking for help, but my posting privileges don't allow me yet so here it is. I tried flashing that zip using OpenRecovery on my Motorola Milestone with CM7, but I keep getting an error: Status 0 and then "Installation aborted". Can I only flash that using CWM, or is there something wrong with the files? I already renamed the zip to "update.zip" just in case.

In the original topic, someone already responded to this question: you first need to mount /system manually.
Turned off equalizer and tuning in Poweramp and listened before and after flashing this. Undoubtly a huge difference, at least I like it
Problem is its an equalizer with settings non changeable .
Does it make any difference ???
My tests 50% No 50% maybe .
But beauty is in the eye of the beholder and placebos can also work for some .
Nandroid backup install and try is all you can do as its not removable .
Further tests
Volume level is probably up by 1%.
Playback is the same as my current setup apart from a bit of distortion at the peak with louder sounds . A bit like standing next to the instrument rather than in the audience .

Weird, how would this make a difference? i have some knowledge with supercurio's work, hardware limitations overall prevent amazing sound. Having beats codec wouldn't make a big diff even if you have a beats headphone.

Holly f*ck, it works like hell with Voodoo LOUDER, Mixzing and the Eq on it and a AKG k518DJ
You don't have any icon, if you want, just check with RootExplorer "System/bin", you'll see some file like this "basimage_ibeats_isolo.bin"
So yes you can flash the zip with any GB (mine is Hyperdroid with Siyah)
---------- Post added at 05:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:46 PM ----------
If you have a good Eq AND you know how to set it, you'll not have more bass!
It feel like a filter, the bass is deeper, clearer, the med also and the trebble too
-> It really makes the sound clearer
It's makes a huuuge difference with a 320 Kbps mp3 or FLAC and a real headphone and with high quality earphone, and it's even better with voodoo LOUDER wich hacking the hardware of my phone
Who said for GB only?
I flashed it before my work was over, so I was able to directly hook it up to my car stereo. I am running AOKP (ICS 4.0.3 AOSP), so I didnt expect it to work.
So, I fired up PowerAMP and played right away. It wasnt much of a difference, since the PowerAMP EQ and Tone-Filter were still active. I know how it sounds without those 2 options, since I drive alot within the week and my Phone is hooked up to my car stereo like every time.
I listen to heavy tunes, bass-focused, mainly Dubstep and DnB.
So I switched those 2 options OFF within PowerAMP and WHOMP!
I mean, really! There is a pretty significant improvement in sound quality.
It sounds better than with activated EQ and Tone-Filter from PowerAMP.
Very crisp bass, but with more force and power.
Mid-Tones are clearer when heavy bass lines kick in.
I was like "WTF"...
Then I fired up Simfy (german edition of Spotify) and even there I got a significant improvement in sound.
I am pretty surprised, since I didnt think it would work on ICS since its been promoted for Gingerbread "Only". But I can say, there is a difference, and if not, I must be high on crack or something ....
PS: I even have the imagination it increases the default Volume Levels. I usually have a pretty fixed setup while driving and listening music (Volume Levels) and I really had the feeling that it was louder in general...
As I have said earlier, I guess supercurio confirms it on his twitter.

Reminds me of the SE Bravia nonsense that was floating around. This is why companies like Bose and Monster Cable make money hand-over-fist.
You're likely listening to 192 kbps (or less) MP3 files on a set of sub $20 headphones, no amount of compression/EQ can help that.
Improved the audio quality quite a bit. Specially on WIDE effect in settings. Crisp & more clear

[Q] Music volume is so low!!! Help?

So from November 2012 when I got my phone I have tried any thing came to my mind to solve this problem but nothing worked for me!!!
I'm very sensitive about music quality and I really can't stand this anymore!!! My volume is very low even when I crank it to the max!!! I mostly use my Dr Dre Studio headphones and sometimes my Beats Tours... I've tried several other headphones and didn't get any result
When I connect my Studio headphones to my laptop and I listen to the same track that I have on my phone it's super load like if I turn up the volume to the max I really go deaf!!! So I'm pretty sure it's not from my headphones... I know that the phone's amplifier is not as powerful as my laptop but still ... I think it is not normal, I also notice some other people have the same problem as me!!!
So these are the things I have tried already:
1. Using other mp3 player apps such as PlayerPro, PowerAMP, Winamp and .... none of them made any difference and the equalizer simply just mess up the quality of the track...
2. I have used all the mods like Beats Xlouder and such and they also just lowered the quality
3. All of my tracks are MP3 320kbps/flac audio format... still I tried to increase the audio using Audacity by amplifying the dB... It helped but not really noticeable.
Currently I don't have root access but if something can really help I'd be willing to root my device... like kernel or something! Please help

Well...
A ) There's something wrong with your ear.
or
B ) You have a defective unit. My headphones are waaaayyyy too loud even at half volume. If it's really that bad, ask for an exchange unit. If you're adventurous, root and custom rom it. Might see a change.

Google Nexus 4 Volume low you can probably see people having the same problem I you think I'm lying

Imma be as descriptive as possible with my fix.
ROOT YOUR PHONE!
1. Install Trinity kernel. (Its the only kernel I've gotten this to work with)
2. Flash Misledz audio mod, keep up with the latest ones as in my opinion she really knows what she's doing and the quality gets better and better.
3. Once the mod is installed Titanium Backup / Rom Toolbox remove the 4 system apps installed by Misledz audio mod.
-Awesome beats, -Noozy Player, -Noozxoide, -Dolby Digital App.
4. Reboot wipe cache / dalvik in recovery, reboot.
5. Go to the market and download the latest Noozxoide, set up to your musical preference.
Now you can omit some parts such as keeping 3 of the apps, but I find awesome beats not to work at all, the libs in the mod does though. That's why I remove the apps. I listen to a lot of bass heavy music (rap / old school hip-hop). This method is a night and day difference in loudness and audio quality.
I genuinely hope this helps everyone.:good:
dude Awesome beats is the worst ... plus I'm not rooted any more
but I heard there is a kernel that increases the volume
Not awesome beats. Misleadz audio mod. Trinity kernel makes your audio louder naturally. With the audio mod trust me you'd give me an e-hug in gratitude (no homo). I had the same problem. This method I posted works.
I give it try thanks a lot

What type of earphones or headphones do you use anyway? I'm using the V-Moda LP2's and they sound fantastic. They do need an amp to get the total feel but with Poweramp's equalizer, I have been pretty impressed.

Try this, I know it's sneakyghosts HK/BS switcher, but I repackaged it since I dont know how to make an update zip myself. Use it for switching to JBL only, I didnt modify the boomsound script to disable JBL or remove the extra stuff I put in. Some of the extra stagefright libs might be unnecessary, but I'll get to that on another day.

HK/JBL Hybrid Setup Instructions.
WARNING!!!
THIS MOD IS CURRENTLY ONLY AVAILABLE ON LOLLIPOP!!!
Please do not attempt this on marshmallow os.
First you need to flash jbl with adsp then hk without adsp, then the others in the order I said,
After you reboot extract the tfa files from the jbl zip located in system/etc/tfa inside the zip,
You also need the cal files for handset headphones and speakers from the zip system/etc then copy those into their respective folders in your rom and set permissions the same as the others,
After that open default.xml and locate support Harmon and change it to false and check just above it a few lines to make sure effect manager is set to 4 then reboot and you have hk/jbl enjoy.
Please be aware that some of these mods may no longer be available when on marshmallow roms so please make sure to backup!
I can assure you it's worth the effort.

You should definitely check out the eXtremeBeats and ASDPE Optimal version those 2 together sound absolutely amazing with great bass and sound separation. but I was extremely curious to know how Sound Explosion and Project Era sound together I was thinking about flashing those 2 before I flashed the 2 mods I listed but I thought Sound Explosion wouldn't work because it says its made for the HTC One M7.

Yes you can in fact I run the H/K Mod on my M8 because I mostly use Spotify for music and Clarify makes streamed music files uncompressed resulting in better sound from an app like Spotify or Songza.

Sound explosion is really bad...doesn't matter if together with BoomSound or h/k...it more of a downgrade then upgrade...stock BoomSound or stock h/k is the best...now with era v20 and v4a it's good too...but next time IC is getting an updated doesn't matter if via svn or ota I will flash the Rom again and won't flash any other Sound mod anymore except if someone can modify the files and libs which are used by BoomSound and h/k...for now it's not possible to edit them

tried it already, doesn't like it too..we just don't Need any soundmods at the Moment on m8 only if we will be able to edit/tweak the encrypted libs and files used by both, h/k and boomsound .. but for now even stock Sound is the best we can get on any device!
Asdpe sounds amazing for me much improvement over stock but I do have high end headphones I'm still on BoomSound atm but I will be testing hk at some point today stock has nice sound but adspe gives it more oomph and clarity to the top end as with v4a the highs seem to fade into the background a bit I like my music very much and atm I'm very happy with the sound on my phone I want that pleased with just BoomSound and v4a with era I am now

Honestly it's worth it it doesn't negatively affect the speakers they sound fine and if you don't like the sound there are many irs files in vinardos thread that are awesome there are all kinds of irs to choose from so it shouldn't be too hard to test to find your ideal sound that's the magic of v4a
Btw I finally flashed hk and your right it is great it really wakes the music up and its definitely clearer than BoomSound i have covered the loss of bass with v4a and sonic blaster irs and it sounds great thanks for helping me decide to flash it I'm not sure about livestage though it sounds good with some songs but not so good with others I'm leaving it unchecked atm

Audio Quality (via headphones). Are you happy with it?

Hi Guys,
My last Samsung device was SGS2 , and i can't remember if i liked the way it sounded. But i definitely am not happy with how Note4 sound. My previous phones were Htc m7 and Iphone 5s, and i loved the way they sounded , especially my HTC.
Since HTC had a Snapdragon processor, i do believe they should sound similar due to similar DAC, or at least i hope devs can work on the equalizer , o port htc m7 sound?
It fells like my Htc Wildfire S sounds better lol  Samsung's sound is not rich , no bass , and if you turn the bass on in EQ then its not loud enough. or maybe i am just deaf .
If you have an EQ preset , while listening music in spotify it take a few second for EQ settings to get applied, so every time you skip a song the volume gets really HIGH and then EQ kicks in and the volume gets lower. Annoying.
Let me know what you think about it guys? Maybe there is a solution already? :good:

Well it's now in airplane mode.. Nothing else happened. Should the sound get better this way?
I found the whole sound calmed down a bit and wasn't as in your face, bit easier to listen to and timing improved. Still lots of amp noise though when listening loud.

Also what app are you using?
Don't get my note 4 till Friday buy have you tried using viper? You need to be rooted but it usally makes a big difference
I didn't know what setting to use with viper vfp non vfp yada
Noticed this myself, even using different earphones didn't make too much of a difference, the sound on my old LGG2 I think was largly better also snapdragon800.
While the sound output isn't as loud as my iphone 5, the sound is certainly very clean. Been listening to quite a bit of music (spotify extreme quality) with a trusty old pair of Klipsch s4i's and its been quite enjoyable. Music is plently loud on these headphones, but the output might be an issue without an amp for a more hungry pair of cans. Overall im very happy with the detail that is coming through. I'd even say music is a little more lively and not quite as flat as was playback on the iphone 5.
Did you try the Adapt Sound procedure? It helped my sound a lot and increased the volume too. I'm using the stock music app so then you can also use the built in eq in its settings (ie SoundAlive). Plenty of bass for me.
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
I find the mids and bass a little mashed together with not much separation and pretty distant from the ear. I use Westone 4R IEMs which are a dead neutral sound, my Galaxy S5 seemed to have the mIds and bass a bit more pronounced, with better separation. and clarity.

On a side note, I found that if I used the Adapt sound process (where I said I could every tone which means no tonal changes), that although it does raise the volume, there is a bug when making calls using the phones own earpiece if Adapt is enabled. The sound is weird...digital sounding. Fortunately you can turn off Adapt for voice calls while still leaving it on for music.
I'm actually quite enjoying the sound now but in at a bit of an advantage as the music player I'm using is running very low level code. Not managed to get the correct/good sound from power amp.
