[Q] How to zip a custom ROM? - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

I want to take a custom rom, extract it, then port it, and then zip it again to install in CWM.
How to do it?
When I try to extract a custom rom, there are several files that get error.. (like files without extension in folder bin/) how to extract them too?
When I am ready porting the rom, how do I zip it again to install in CWM?

No zip files

I've been trying to get a new rom on my phone, as I have a cyanogen right now. But everytime I download the zip files they're not zip files. The icon is a java icon, and I can still extract. When I push the files to my sdcard and try to flash the rom, the phone doesn't recognize it as a zip or any file at all.
Edit: They are downloading as jar files. What do I need to do to make them zip files?

You probably should ask this in the EVO Android Development forum. However, since I'm here, I'll do my best.
The boot.img should be at the root of the folder structure.
../NewFolder/system
../NewFolder/META-INF
../NewFolder/boot.img
You then have to zip the CONTENTS of ../NewFolder and sign the resulting zip with something like EasySign (http://android.grdlock.net/index.php?&direction=0&order=&directory=Extras).
Or you can just load the original ROM into dsixda's kitchen in the original_update folder (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246), select '1' to create a work folder, copy the files into the correct locations, and then select '99' to zip and sign the ROM. It will then be in the OUTPUT_ZIP folder. The kitchen walks you through these steps really well, if you read the prompts.
Then flash the ROM.

Unzip mod zip
unzip rom zip
Replace the files in the mod zip with ones from rom zip
rezip and Flash
manually delete any extra files that were in mod zip but not rom zip
Of course it's much easier to restore your nandroid backup but for some reason no one here ever makes one even though I keep telling people to
doubt

You replace any files from the mod zip with ones from the rom zip
by flashing it you are replacing the files from the mod zip with ones from the rom zip
Any extra files that are in the mod zip but not in rom zip Manually remove with a root browser
This should then put your phone back to pre mod flashing
Remember ALWAYS make a nandroid backup in future
thanks
