[COMPARISON] ICS ROM's - I've compared 4 and wanted to share - Galaxy S II General

I did a quick comparison last night around 12:30a EST of 4 ICS ROM's for the SGSII that I'm tracking. I then summarized it in an email to myself for future reference and then realized that some of you here may find it useful. Truthfully after watching these 4 ICS ROM's (there's probably more but I can only follow so much, feel free to reply and add another ICS ROM and try to keep it in the same comparison format) I realize there's no right or wrong answer, no ROM is superior to another in all aspects. They're all suitable for a daily driver.
Anyways, I'm not an expert and your mileage may vary and I may have mistranslated information, blah blah. Here you go:
Notes: 2 of the ICS ROM’s I’m tracking have moved to the XWLP3 base, so it seems to be the best base to use. 3 of the ROM’s are using the UCLC2 modem that came from the AT&T leak, the consensus is this Modem rocks. Shishir’s releasing a good update on 3/30/2012. No movement/changes on Ultimatum2. All 4 use the Entropy ICS kernel.

Reserving for future edits.
But I wanted to mention after reading through it last night I was leaning towards Shostock (since they updated 3/31) but if that didn't work out, I'd switch to Phone Bricker as it seems well done as well.
But I've used ShishirROM in the past and his ICS ROM has made major improvements in the last few days and last night he promised a new release coming today or tomorrow that promises to be even better, so definitely keep an eye on that one.
Ultimatum is still quiet at the moment, no updates recently, but that could very well mean they're working on a big update/release instead of a bunch of small ones.
A fellow I777 owner I know who knows these phones and ROM's and community quite well was leaning towards Shostock as they seem to have the biggest list of patches/edits/mods that make it the most full featured.
I'll try to keep this post updated. If you want to add another ROM or whatever feel free.

ytt3r, you should consider adding UGJL2 as the default modem.

Changelog for 7.5?
Edit: Nevermind, you updated the second post.
a few screenshots please?
Hey gang! Darky, love 7.5 ROM, super fast and just so simple. I have one problem,(not a biggie) But the auto-rotate is off. When I hold the phone vertical the screen is in Landscape, and in Landscape the screen pic is in portrait view. Like I had mentioned its not a biggie. But just wanted to let you know!
Great ROM!!

Hi!
Does voltage app working? I need UV. Tks
Hey ytt3r, would you mind putting up the changelog for all of the versions like you had on your other thread? I just like to see what was there before or to see what it is based on like modem and all that jazz.
If you think it would make it more confusing, no biggie. I can always look at the other thread.

It uses this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=808286.
Overclocking and undervolting are not a part of this as far as I can tell.

you sure you downloaded the right one? sounds like you are on an actual i9000 kernel and not the ported rom (which has the appropriate kernel built in)

If you need this,
you need to flash a kernel with speedmod included after installed this update.
I tried Setiron super reoriented, it works great !

My personal favorite is glitterballs's OC/UV w/o the "sleep of death." Works great for me, I haven't had a problem.
Cool thanks for the direct link to the other changelogs. Much appreciated.
I was wondering why Darky keeping "Thumbs.db" inside ..zip\system\xbin\recovery\res\images\

The most updated Setiron kernel also w/o sleep of death and charge of death.
Great ROM!! This is my first custom ROM flash and everything went well thanks to the clear instructions. Question: How do I mount the SD card? In JH7 it was part of the drop-down menu. I can't seem to find it on this 2.2.1 build. Thanks!!

Now this came out of the blue rigth when I am about to test Darky 8.1 and Serendipty 3.5 so I guess I would give this one a shot first!
Do you have that Wifi fix applied here?
Also, any problem using a different modem?
Thanks!
Why now when I have 11% battery.... Guess I'll flash tomorrow and possibly see if any bugs arise. This looks fantastic though.

Really excited for this ROM! Blow me away!

I am getting ready to flash...love tryng a new kernel that is not too far from my normal 1344 overclock...maybe I can convince him to give it one or two more steps so I can still do 1344 with his kernel
Does this ROM have the 4 lockscreen options?
cant wait to see the reviews looks amazing. sticking with darky for right now loving the 2.3.1 bugger is fast smooth and so far great battery life. might be willing to give this a try though
The moment you start to get comfortable with a rom, and BAM!- something new and shiny comes along. And the endless spiral of reflashing continues... lol.
always interested in trying a new kernel..thats usually where the 'good' stuff can be found
any way we might get a full list of whats in the kernel besides the OC? Im a bit of a stickler and since i know what all the optimizations are after countless nights of reading i like knowing what people have included in their kernels.
ROM looks awesome will give it a go when my battery is fully charged
I loved your last rom, so I can't wait.

sweet! downloading right now.
what's new/different in the kernel? seems like an oc'd speedmod?
bamonkey said:
always interested in trying a new kernel..thats usually where the 'good' stuff can be found
any way we might get a full list of whats in the kernel besides the OC? Im a bit of a stickler and since i know what all the optimizations are after countless nights of reading i like knowing what people have included in their kernels.
ROM looks awesome will give it a go when my battery is fully charged

LOCKSCREENs EXPLAINED
4tab Lockscreen and MIUI explained :
The upper right tab / right handle (MIUI) has to be set using the new 'Lockscreen menu' in settings
You can set it to launch anything (folder shortcut or any application ) I personally set it to messaging ( SMS application).
If you dont associate the tab with something it will soft reboot the phone when you use the tab
Both lockscreens will share the same 'custom setting'
Lockscreen Music Controls explained :
Aosp - Rotary - MIUI - R2D2 - 4tab : Music controls will work with ANY music player except the stock samsung one
SGS2 - Epic - Glass - Puzzle : Music controls will only work with the stock samsung music player
Just want to point out that double tapping the lock (MIUI) will bring up music controls, cool feature and that MIUI works with Pandora !!!
SGSII lockscreen known issues :
Lockscreen Wallpaper can be set, but cannot be unset. This is because the Galaxy S 2 uses a different Gallery Application. To remove the Lockscreen Wallpaper and revert automatically to the default Wallpaper, delete this file

Amazing question!!!
Why don't you pm Dag for explicit directions. I'm sure he would be more than accommodating.
I kinda noticed that he said that it was going to be FINAL. That means he's not going to be supporting it much?
Cool concept. Looking forward to its release. Big fan of the SGS2 style.

can't log into the my verizon app. says service is down. when i switch to different rom like iKReaM.What.Thee.ROM it works perfect. even the verizon video app works. the only issue i have with most roms in this forum that these to apps don't work. I know they won't with the senseless roms because the verizon stuff is removed.

awesome rom! Switched to imos 5.1 and runs smootger than ziggys with the same settings. other than that good work.
If my phone sleeps it looses Data connection until I reboot.
Luke
Sense, how I've missed you.
Really liking this ROM so far. The transition effects alone make it worth keeping.

You have to switch to cdma only, not the prl one. And wait for 1x to come up. Then log into Verizon services. It may take a few attempts but it does work.

I love this ROM so far except that lime green color in the SMS application, and I notice it's the same color as when you highlight something. Please tell me there is a way to change that cause it is driving me crazy.

[Q&A][KK]Review of 2 roms, with tips and bugs and future suggestions

Introduction:
Everyone uses there android device differently, and as a result not everyone will be looking for the same features from a ROM, and as a result developers simply do not know what to do to satisfy the many needs of the andoid users.
what I aim to do with this thread is to provide a review of 2 of the best ROMs out there for our device (based on my opinion), and include some tips, bugs and suggestions for the future.
What I have here is a review of 2 android 4.4.2 ROMs for the xperia arc/s. the ROMs are VANIR AOSP and C-rom.
let's start with a introduction to VANIR AOSP:
Vanir aosp is a ROM built with the user who likes a degree of customization to there phone in mind. the devs behind it have decided to build a ROM completely based on what is important and necessary for the users. they added only those features that passed certain criteria and only those features were allowed to be put into the ROM build. any unnecessary features were not added.
The result is a light, super stable and lagless ROM that would be more than enough to please the android user.
THE GOOD:
-lots of customization options in settings
-very very stable
-very fast and all the time around 200mb free ram
-nice 'on the go mode' feature
-nice option for choosing boot animations
-dual panel mode for settings
THE BAD:
-only features the devs have picked are added to the rom, so if you have a feature you want but the dev thinks its not important it won't be added
-floating windows for apps cannot be moved
THE BUGS:
-sound manager forces close message every time I try to open it
-adding a new user causes a force close message to appear whenever trienf to open gallery
-swiping on the keyboard causes the aosp keyboard to force close
-screen recorder doesn't work (should just be removed from our devices completely, the arc will never be fat enough to screen record)
-camera video doesnt work (although ion kernel would be the problem)
C-ROM:
c-rom is a ROM that is simply mind blowing, the ROM just has every feature I can simply think off, and in some instances it had features I have never even heard off.
the dev behind it added every feature from android I can think off, all into one amazing rom, for those people who like to change every single thing on there phone.
THE GOOD:
-tons of customizations
-lots of free ram, around 200mb all the time
-super smooth
-good turn on and off speeds (experienced this with v5.9 not v5.6)
-movable floating windows
-on the go mode
THE BAD:
-opening apps in floating mode is a little tedious
-slightly high battery consumption
THR BUGS:
there are bugs in both versions of c-rom so here goes:
v5.6:
-multi user support doesn't work, causes tons of force close messages when switching to the new user
-no option for enabling widget support on the lockscreen (only way to get the option is by editing build.prop file, but that causes the high end graphics option to dissapear from the performance menu)
-sound recorder doesn't have a ui, so users can't launch it from drawer (vanir aosp has this)
-no dowbloads app from drawer, and hence I can't make shortcuts to the download manager because there sinply isn't icon for it.
-no option to opt out of c-rom stats, it came up once then disappeared, but I know the menu for it exists
-can't put apps into floating window mode with halo switched off (in vanir aosp you can do this)
v5.9 bugs:
-no camera (video) although could be due to ion kernel?
-kernel logo sometimes comes up while I am using the phone
-the button in the status bar that switches between the tiles and the notification view move out of alignment when pressed
-no save page option in the browser but the option is there?
-swiping on aosp keyboard causes it to force close
-no force high end graphics option in settings
-no sound recorder icon in drawer
-opening the advanced settings option in the performance control app causes a force close
-exposed module causes a bootloop (stuck on kernel logo)
-no option to opt out of c-rom stats
-multi user support works fine, but causes a force lose on all media apps, I.e. try opening gallery and it force closes
so as you can see both ROMs are each unique but they are considered (by me) the best ROMs for xperia arc.
some tips for everyone:
-downloads in kitkat are found under an app called 'documents'
-to enable widget support on lockscreen in c-rom v5.6 you need to modify build.prop file changing the low ram config option to false
-there is no sound recorder icon in the drawer, although the app is installed, if you want to record using it, create a new message and add an attachment, when picking the attachment pick sound recorder and that's it.
some suggestions for c-rom in the future:
-would be great if you could add a dual panel mode like in vanir
-a better way if opening apps in floating window
my final verdict though on both ROMs, is that they are both amazing ROMs, but I think the award has to go to c-rom, due to its vast number of customizations while being a stable and smooth ROM. Good job 3andala
I would like to also point out that, I am not disrespecting others developers who have made a kk ROM for xperia arc, I am simply giving my opinion on 2 ROMs that I really like and consider to be the best for my xperia arc.
my ultimate goal really from a thread like this is to maybe one day see all developers working on only one ROM, that would be the smoothest ROM, with the most features etc..... that everyone would use, and just simply have a ROM that takes the device to it's limits, a ROM that we can all say that its the most complete ROM ever made for the xperia arc, and there will never be a better rom for this device than this. anyone with me?
anyway that's it from me, I hope you liked what if provided and if I helped you let me know as it makes me happy.
P.S. is there any way of increasing the brightness of the notification LED? there are patches for this on ICS and jb but no patches for this on kitkat, so could anyone advise me how its done?
