Sony Arc versus iPhone 4 versus Nikon D90 SLR
At work we had a studio setup with lights to photo furniture. I took a photo with each using a tripod.
Which do you think is the best?
Sony Arc (.62 Firmware, Auto, tried normal and white balance and the shot comes out the same)

iPhone (iOS 5.1 - Auto)
Nikon D90 Digital SLR (Auto - same as the Arc, tried Manual and White Balance, same)

Can't see much unless you put full resolution photos.
Anyways, the exposure on the arc and the D90 are both good while the iPhone took an overexposed shot.
Hi, link added to all the photos in a zip file.
Exposure wise the D90 and Arc are spot on. The iPhone looks a little more exposed but with a huge amount of detail. Even more than the SLR.
All 3 are very good.
The iPhone has more visible noise than the Arc and the D90, while the Arc has lesser detail because of the noise reduction. Is the photo from the Arc downsized from 8 MP or shot in 5?

That. The increased noise in the photo taken with the iPhone compared to the D90 results in increased perceived resolution. While the photo taken with the D90 is cleaner, I also noticed that it contains more details. Not sure what to say with arc's photo, it seems like it was captured further than the iPhone.
Wow, nice pics

On stock Gingerbread? I believe ICS has less compressions, photo's a are 1,5MB+ now.
Yes, stock gingerbread 2.3.4 (.62)
I find the Arc takes decent photos but not in Auto mode. I would say 95% of the time the iPhone will take a better photo, but once you use the manual settings the Arc is better (mostly at night time).
The compression is one thing that ruins the photos using the Arc.
Hopefully ICS will be better. Can anyone post any photos comparing 2.3.4 (gingerbread) to 4.0.3 (ICS) ?
sdk16420: do you have any ICS samples you can post?

Just wanted to share some macro shots I took today of a butterfly sitting on my porch. The sky was overcast with no sun. Shots were taken in Macro mode at 400 ISO. I would like some feedback from a photographer who knows what their doing. Let me know what you think of the Vibrant's camera.

Nice pics, I'm amazed the butterfly Hung out that long. Now as a photographer (decent) at best I would say the pics are great for a cell phone but nothing makes up for a good dslr camera and controlled lighting... that being said the pics look great for the hardware they were accomplished on
Pretty awesome for a cellphone.
I personally can't make my phone stable for some reason especially hitting the on screen shutter.
Nice pics! I am loving having such a good camera with me all the time. I took this the other afternoon in my backyard. Macro mode works nicely.
Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is macro mode? Looking through the settings in the camera I don't see a 'macro mode'. Granted, I do have the Captivate camera mod, but pretty sure all the options are the same.

I am no photographer but what macro mode does if you are going to be taking an extreme close-up picture of something. It makes the camera focus different so when the lenses is close to an object its not blurry.
I found it. Under 'focus mode' in the settings. Now time to play with it.

i think we should have a Camera Forum under Vibrant.. because it feels like we're going to be having alot of amatuer (but brilliant) Photography!!!
I'm going to start posting some pics i've taken on a new thread.. hopefullly ppl will share their brilliant photography!!
p.s. I know there is probably a Flickr group for all that goodness.. but i just feel at home in XDA
Really nice pictures guys
Here's a similar thread (not Macro Shots) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745704&highlight=photos maybe some of you want to pass by and post some pics in there.
400 ISO
The quality is quite decent for a camera lens the size of a small pencil eraser (if that).
Hy 4 all!
I have CM6.1 with Froyo on my Legend and I use the built-in camera app. My photos are always blurry and like so they were taken in a foggy, cloudy place. I have tried to increase the ISO, Deblur, decrease the lightness, increase the sharpness and etc... but nothing has helped. I think the LED flash is too strong. I dont know what more can I do. Has somebody else this problem? Is there a solution?
Thank you forwards!
Sent from my Legend using XDA App
Unfortunately, the camera sensor on Legend has it's limitation, if you do care the quality of photo you shot, you better carry a DC or a DSLR to solve this problem.
Yes, the flash is way to strong and built too close to the lens I think. The only thing this cam is good for is well lit day time shots. The flash will destroy any picture if used.
Sent from my Legend using XDA App
The flash is good as a flashliht though...I couldn't live without that...
I'm using Stock-like ROM with the original app and the quality is just bad too...
I don't find the Legend too bad, though I've never owned a really good camera so that might be why. I'm happy with the quality tbh, I used the app Vignette with the quality set to 'superfine'.

Well, yes, it can do a good picture while taking shot on a sunny day, although the shot is too light and unbalanced...Also the quality is good because of the resize - look at it in original an you will be surprised
Oh, come on, boys and girls.
What do you expect from a lens as big as a pinhead, a focal distance of maybe 4 mm and 5 mm sensor behind it?
It's good for a snapshot but you woulnd't want your wedding picture being taken with that.
Yeah, I use both Legend and Samsung Fascinate, the Fascinate's camera is much much much better, and flashlight mode is really good. I believe I can take wedding photos with my Fascinate. HTC's camera is never close to "good", always causes pink area on the photo.
Actually none of HTC's phone produce good quality pictures. NONE. I find the quality is acceptable for a phone. If you want the picture perfect quality then I don't think phones will cut it. It is good enough for my use though.
Photo comparisons with the Iphone5 and the Oppo find 5 (which sports similar specs and supposably same Exmor sensor)

This pictures were made for comparison yet they have different iso levels. Obviously the device which had the better iso rating for a specific lighting condition got the best results.
I can see all 3 of the devices have a good exposure than the other because of this. It's as if the one who made this want to tell us that all three devices are equal.
If only they shot it on a similar iso level on different lighting conditions then we could determine which is the best on the camera.

But these devices should allow similar iso levels first of all.. 100% zoom crop is the usual comparison used for actual camera reviews( but in same iso)... but we dont whether these allow same iso... only iphone5 is released to public.. i never used it though:silly:
xperia z looks nice, but this a comp. between 8mp & 13 mp. early to say something until s4 an iphone6 release date.

I'm not sure about that OPPO device... never heard of it so dunno if it's already released or not. But yeah my point is the comparison test on those pictures doesn't have the same ISO levels so I don't feel like criticizing the 3 device with those images as a comparison.
But if those were to test the auto mode of each device then iphone5 wins it.
damn I like iPhone quality
the xperia z has very nice qualty
the oppo 5 not really good
A very satisfied Note 4 user. The camera is beyond fantastic for a phone camera. However, I would love to switch to an S6 because of the form factor (I don't really need a phablet, the big screen doesn't do anything for me). BUT only if the S6 camera is on par or better than the Note 4's. So I have been trying to get my hands on camera shootouts and found this very detailed one from GSMArena:
http://www.gsmarena.com/shootout_galaxy_s6_note_4_galaxy_s5_iphone_6-review-1229.php
Results seem inconclusive? Note 4 still scores higher on some aspects. In fact, the blind camera test says Note 4 scored higher on multiple dimensions.
http://www.gsmarena.com/galaxy_blind_camera_test-review-1228p2.php
I am kinda bummed out by this I really wanted the S6 to come out on top. What do you guys think?
The Note 4 pictures look more pleasing because the increased sharpening levels bring out more detail (even if that detail is extrapolated and not real detail). However, keep in mind these are blown up portions of a much larger photo. If you do look at the full size photos, the ones shot with good light all look nice, regardless of camera. You probably won't see much difference there. I would have liked to have seen more low light shots. It kind of drives me crazy that most of these photo shootouts are of landscapes and tsotchkes instead of people and kids. I'd also like to see some fast motion comparisons considering how fast the S6 camera is.

Good point. Zoomed out crops aren't always representative of real world results. I do also agree with you on the S6 camera supposedly being faster. The thing that bugs me about the Note 4 camera is the slow shutter speed - see below.

The Note 4 camera is awesome, for more reasons than just the sharpness though. The color reproduction is excellent.

I found the camera test between sony xperia Z5 premium and note 5.
My personal opinion is that the Xperia Z5 Premium has a better camera of note 5

Why do we need another thread here? Already discussing about this HERE.
The Sony camera looks worse in the edge plus comparison video.
1 that video is a s6 edge +
2 as much as I love Sony, you're wrong
Z5

Note 5

Im sad to say but it looks like this whole Z5 camera is still a joke! and this comes from a z3c owner... look at these samples http://www.eprice.com.tw/mobile/talk/4523/4953454/1/rv/sony-xperia-z5-compact-review/ the note 5 out shoots the z5 almost in any shot and not to speak bout low light shots which z5 cant handle. so after this i just cancelled my preorder and might get something else or ill wait till next year because i aint buying samsung crap.
I 'm sorry to say that the Note 5 pictures qre way better. Did you look at the full resolution pictures or just the thumbnails? I don't like Samsung but I have to admit, adding OIS to their flagships this year was a smart move. Sony blew it again. That is unless they tweak the camera before the release.
I think all haters to see eye doctor and test their eye sight. Z5 photos are far better than taken with Z3 and are equally great compared to S6 or Note 5. If you think otherwise you should get an iPhone 6s
ummm the Z5 is the best camera on the market:
http://www.xperiablog.net/2015/09/30/dxomark-rates-xperia-z5-as-best-of-the-best-sits-atop-rankings/
They didnt test yet iphone 6s and note 5. Anyway for video recording, i think sony will be hard to beat. As for photos quality just hope it will be acceptable since i dont like protrude camera design.
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Free mobile app
iP6s camera is just bigger clone of iP6 camera with no significant improvements except 4k video. iP6 should be in top 5 but not #1
definitely not to beat Huawei's Nexus too for much better 12mpix snapper
Play store and sony keyboard got a new update.
Sounds good
