Just above your post you have this wonderful topic where you can find answers to all your questions.
Me, i would suggest gingerdx, being the most feature rich and probably the most stable out there. Been using it for a while now, with the occasional testing of some other rom, but i always go back to it for my daily use.

I know...
i know I should use the search bar, and I've done that
I just wanted a "fresh answer"
, but thank you for your suggestion!
EDIT: Can I install it with xRecovery v0.1 (as in this guide: *ANDROIDFORUMS*/x8-all-things-root/296251-new-superoneclick-root-install-use-xrecovery-xperia-x8.html)?

you mean gingerdx? usually roms can be installed (flashed) with xrecovery, but ginger dx cannot. You need to install an older version of gdx, like v19 (i think it was the last one installable from xrecovery) then just update to v24 -v19 includes CWM recovery.
Again, you can safely flash gingerdx. I use my x8 daily being my main phone, and i never had problems with gdx. Read the gingerdx post and reviews. I get around 2 days of battery life with wi-fi always on (not always connected), few calls, some texting etc.
edit:
by the way, i'm on stock kernel. And gingerdx is, i think, the only stable rom with recent updates for stock. Using it you wont feel the need to unlock the bootloader. Me, myself, can't unlock it. I have a vintage ppc mac and google sdk tools don't work on it, and i don't feel like bothering others just to have swap and overclock i never use anyway.

Aws, but what now?
It's awesome that you take your time to help me!
What do I do, then, I have xRecovery v0.1 installed?

well, i don't have much to do today...so..
now, so i know in which direction to point you:
- is your x8 rooted (you have superuser installed)?
- have you installed xrecovery? (as in the tut- unzip files and move them to system/app/can't remember right now)
if not then...
root your phone as described here
install xrecovery as described here
if all above is done correctly you should be able to find superuser in the app drawer
now...
find a rom that you like/trust for daily use (like gingerdx)
copy the version for your kernel (and as far as gingerdx goes, the last version flashable in xrecovery), copy modules for your kernel (if any)
-boot into xrecovery and chose install custom zip and chose the (rom name).zip on your sd
-then install modules (if any)
-full wipe
reboot and enjoy

Hello,
Also Dont forget about "unlock Bootloader" if u want to flash any COSTUM ROM that require COSTUM KERNEL
For the suggestion better go for Minicm7 2.2 by nobodyAtall [This rom require nAa Kernel (Costum Kernel)]
[But im using CM9 Rom by Paul-xxx]
Peace,

Okay
Okay, I'll try it out, now
and again; THANK YOU!
EDIT: When I've done this, can I in any way upgrade to v24 of GingerDX?

do exactly as i showed you above and flash gingerdx v19 then, after booting, reboot again but choose to reboot into CWM recovery from the reboot menu and flash gingerdx v24+modules and you'll be up-to-date
ps: use only latest modules for v24 and...don't need to flash modules when flashing v19 having that you're not gonna' keep that version, ok?
good luck.
ps2: suggestion- keep open in web browser on your pc all the tutorials, instructions, etc so if you get confused, there's help for you and you don't have to wait for someone to reply

WOW, OMG, I love you! <3
EDIT: Fingers crossed, it's rebooting!
EDIT2: IT WORKS! YOU DON'T KNOW HOW HAPPY I AM! I'VE BEEN TROUBLING WITH THIS FOR APPROX. ONE WEEK.
I'VE "THANKED" ALL OF YOUR POSTS!

...and i've thanked yours
glad it all worked out well...it's actually easy if you have everything you need in front of you.
Some tips:
If you're like me, a minimalist freak (which i undoubtedly am) and want your rom to be even faster and lighter, you can remove some useless apps with root explorer.
i've removed and i can confirm that are safe to remove the following (from gdx v24) from system/app
-play music.apk
-terminal.apk
-root browser.apk
-zeam launcher.apk (ATTENTION!: before deleting the launcher app make sure to have previously installed a launcher from play store!)
and also make sure you've installed a substitute for each app you delete, like, for example, if you want access to root files, install a root exlorer or something, for listening music, install a music player and so on...
then you should go to cahce/dalvik and find the cache file for every app you've deleted and delete it. reboot and enjoy.
As in my signature, i'm using sslauncher as my home launcher app, with only to pages-home and app, and i don't use google maps...so i get around 40/50 mb free ram on normal use and around 2 days of battery life.
good luck

Yup
I actually know how to do that

[ROM] Official Port of Jim/Hamster's ROM (v6)

Please read the entire OP before posting that you need help. If you are in dire need of any help, join my temporary channel on irc.freenode.net: #DarkyOnCappy .
This is the port of Jim/Hamster's v6 ROM. This ROM uses Xcaliburinhand's i9000 Reoriented Kernel, and Da_G's GPS fix (coming in the next release). You do not need to download and flash the kernel separately! ONLY DOWNLOAD THE ROM.
ROM: http://www.mediafire.com/?ho32p7oi4zffy49
Original ROM thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=844514
Kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=808286
How to flash:
Place ROM on the root of the SD card
Back up your apps using Titanium Backup or the backup app of your choice
Launch ROM Manager (Downloadable from the market)
Select "Install ROM from SD card"
Choose ROM. When prompted, check "Wipe data/Cache". This WILL wipe your data.
Let the phone sit for 5-10 minutes before setting up.
If I made any typos or grammatical errors, feel free to let me know.
The only thanks I want (for now ) are followers on twitter.com/ytt3r.
Credits:
Jim/Hamster
Xcaliburinhands for the great kernel
chrisryn, just cuz
Anyone else on the credits of the two developers.
Ha I just tried that rom, the original one that is.
Did you change the cool boot animation (non English) and change things around to be a USA release or so?
I only modified the way it installs and the kernel, but there are a few other tweaks I'm going to be making.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I don't know if you know or not but the Gingerbread kb thats installed gets a automatic force close.
good port though

Please post your question in the proper thread.

FroyoBread F.A.Q.

Greetings. The following thread is related to FroyoBread ROM. I'm opening this thread since doixanh suggested it could come in handy. This is supposed to be helpful to all the people who don't know something or can't make something work. If you have issues - read the first post, if there is no answer - ask a question. Never the other way around. If you have a new (sensible) question I will add it to the first post along with a solution (by me or by anyone who can give it - by posting solutions you agree to my puting it into the first post).
This thread will be divided into three parts:
why this ROM?
installation instructions, tricks and issues
F.A.Q.
But first we need to make some things clear. These are as follows:
If you cannot comprehend what is written here - it's your problem, not mine. You can relate to THIS or THIS thread for information regarding things such as rooting, xrecovery and other stuff. Or learn English. I will not put things into plainer words, nor will I explain terms that are general, not ROM-related. "Hard" words will be marked in orange and google is your friend.
If you consider this guide useless - don't write in it.
This is a place for noobs. If you're an advanced user go straight to FroyoBread thread. Use this for questions, not for bug reports. Remember, doixanh is by no means obliged to visit this thread.
Ok, let's get down to business.
1. Why this ROM?
There are several reasons why you should go for this ROM, not for any else:
It's android 2.2 Froyo, which, while bootloader is still locked, runs smooth, and android 2.3 is buggy (mostly camera issues, but not only)
It's fast and contains very few bugs, which means it's good for daily use
It has lovely android 2.3 GingerBread features, such as crt animation, edge glow, and some more useful, like precise text markers. See for yourself
It's under constant development - new versions come even in three days distance
From v013 on you can use a wide variety of themes for CM7 devices!
Hope that it's enough to get your attention
2.1 Installation instructions and tricks
To properly install FroyoBread you need to have files which come with stock ROM build 2.1.1.A.0.6 or higher. You also need baseband ending with 015. You will require xRecovery to for installation. Clockworkmod recovery, for now, does not allow to install FroyoBread!
Do you have all that's needed? Good, let's get started!
Put a downloaded FroyoBread zip in the root of your SD card
Go into xRecovery
Make a backup of your current ROM in case you want to go back!
After backing up choose "install custom zip" -> "choose custom zip from sdcard" -> choose your froyobread zip file and install it. It will take a short while.
NOTE: Every FroyoBread installation file will wipe your cache partition, you don't have to do it manually. All the versions except for RC0 will preserve your data partition, so if you are updating your FroyoBread you will not loose your contacts, apps and so on.
If you are coming from any version of android that is not 2.2 - make a full wipe (factory reset). This step is not necessary for ROMs such as Floyo, Elelinux or miniCM, but it is generally good to get rid of other ROM's data before proceeding.
You may want to go to "advanced option" and wipe battery stats to get more precise readings, but it is entirely optional.
Reboot!
Now, there are some additional files you may want to install. These are themes and fixes. They are installed the very same way the ROM is, but they do not wipe anything, nor do they need you to perform any action apart from choosing them for installation and then rebooting. The list of themes and fixes can be found in FroyoBread thread.
2.2 Installation issues
Something went wrong? Phone doesn't turn on? No worries
Issue: my phone shows only the "Sony Ericsson" logo and doesn't move on!
Solution: take out your battery, put it back and get into xRecovery once more, perform full wipe. You may also want to reinstall the FroyoBread zip. If something weird happens during the installation (for example the progress bar goes only half way) redownload the ROM, go into "partition options" of xRecovery and mount USB to replace the zip, then install it again. If anything else fails, you can always restore your previously done backup of the old ROM. You made it, didn't you?
Issue: I cannot see anything on my notification bar!
Solution: Reboot your device and check settings->CM settings -> user interface -> tweak extras -> select a theme. You should have STOCK_Black enabled by default.
Issue: I instaleld a theme and <something> is not working!
Solution: Do you really need that thing that has been broken? If so, reinstall your current version of the ROM, or perform an advanced restore of your system (if you have a proper backup of course)
Issue: my GPS/radio/data/whatever is not working!
Solution: GPS works. If you have issues - full wipe. Some apps may not be compatible with FroyoBread - in this case report a bug Radio has been fixed in v007, but due to some major changes it could be broken in further versions. I have never checked it. Some themes may also cause radio to break. Data traffic, yes... it has been reported that sometimes it simply breaks and there is nothing to be done, only wifi works. Bug reported, be patient. Anything else is not working? Post a question and we will try to help
F.A.Q.
Q: Is this ROM better than others?
A: In some respects it is. See section one of this guide, or try the ROM yourself
Q: What is baseband/build/xrecovery/etc?
A: At the very beginning I put two reference links to hub threads which will direct you to the knowledge you desire
Q: How to install this?
A: You didn't read the installation instruction, did you?
Q: I have v013 beta(2), why doesn't my notification bar change when I switch themes?
A: doixanh is working on separating notification bar from the system, but in this version of ROM it doesn't work. Wait patiently
Q: Is wifi-N enabled in this ROM?
A: It was up to v012. In v013 doixanh disabled it due to stability issues. Refer to changelog for further versions.
Q: Why are CM settings in English?
A: CM6 settings were never truly translated. Maybe doixanh will include CM7 translations in further releases, but for now you need to wait or translate the xml files yourself (if you know how to extract them from .apk - knowledge is here, on XDA )
Q: Is "beta" unstable?
A: Beta version of v013 is stable enough for daily use. It has been called so due to major changes and for fear of many bugs to come. doixanh simply didn't want people to complain that the "stable" build is unstable.
Q: Can this brick my device?
A: If you do something wrong you may, of course, crash your system. There is, however, now way to brick it permanently, since bootloader is locked. For unbricking see my other guide HERE.
Q: I did all the steps from installation part, I have a proper build and baseband and yet my phone is stuck on boot with SE logo. What's wrong?
A: Did you do a full wipe? If so, then there is something wrong with you file system. Reflash the phone with 2.1.1 tft file from THIS guide, make sure you have 015 baseband and then reinstall FroyoBread. Make sure to backup your data!
Q: I cannot use SE backup and restore app!
A: Well, that's most probably because doixanh named the brand Sh!t Ericsson instead of Sony Ericsson. Change this value in build.prop and try to install again. build.prop may be found in /system and /system/bin, you need to change both, then reboot. If all else fails you may always use MyBackup and Titanium Backup from the market
Q: What modules are included?
A: By default we have x8uv, x8mddi and x8gesture in system/lib/modules. If you want x8oc simply put the .ko file in the directory and reboot, FroyoBread is designed to load this module without any further modifications in config.sh.
Q: How do I add more themes to theme chooser?
A: Go to THIS thread and choose to your liking. Some themes are available through market, some need to be downloaded from XDA and installed through file managers.
This list is to be expanded by your further questions!
Mod Edit: Ok, just deleted the quote.
Omg! That's best thread I ever see! But anyway I'm not noob I know everything what's here but its very good for noobs! Well Done! BTW I'm using froyobread v013 and its very stable

You either download some CM7 themes from the market or from XDA. The list is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056292
Gonna add this to the FAQ in the first post

you want x8oc simply put the .ko file in the directory and reboot
I can't find this file...on v14.
Since you made the F.A.Q. I'll ask you the same question I've asked on the dev thread. Is Bluetooth working for you ? Because I can only use it with a 3rd party app from the market, and is annoying as hell.
hey i just got this problem.. im unable to update google maps, downloads completely but after dat installation fails.. pop up displays update package failure.... flashed v12 freshly same error occured again.. pls help me..
n i also noticed that there are no events in notification dropdown menu while der is a download running frm market, it only appears during installation....

You can either change it in framework-res.apk (you'll need default icons and xmls for that, for more see the general theming section of XDA) or use another CM7 theme (in v014 you will experience issues such as battery indicator flipping from stock to themed randomly - wait for more updates for a fix )
Since it is not an easy thing to fix I will not put in into a F.A.Q. this time

Well, last time I used bluetooth it was on v013b. Both astro bluetooth and bluetooth file manager DIDN'T work for me, I had to send a file (mp3) through default android service actually. I will check it on v014 in the morning and write something more

The solution's been found by one of the users. Here - PM this person for more information. If you repost it here I will gladly put in into F.A.Q. I cannot help you since I do not use Maps
As for download event not showing - it is a bug that has been already reported We may only hope that it will be fixed in v015

Force Close.
Got X8 few days ago, and installed froyobread. My X8 runs surprisingly smooth, with few glitches:
1. Video recording isnt working, is there any chance of enabling it? (when i press record it shuts down app)
2. Sluggish keyboard
3. auto brightness bugs - First its ok, than it ajusts brigness after 5 seconds or so, than refuses to enlight screen
1. It should be ok in v015. If it isn't - try full wipe. If it doesn't help - report bug in doixanh's thread.
2. Which one are you referring to? As far as I remember we have HTCime mod and stock android keyboard. If both don't suit you - try some keyboards from the market
3. Well, autobrightness is still enlisted as a persisting bug in doixanh's thread, so I'd suggest you disabling it. If you'd like to keep some controll over brightness you may set a drop-down widget in CM settings

[GUIDE] The latest guide to xperia x8 roms and mods

UPDATED: Saturday, February, 25th 2012
DISCLAMER:
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE DONE TO YOUR PHONE IF YOU FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS: THOSE INSTRUCTIONS THAT ARE MENTIONED ARE WHAT WORKED FOR ME AND OTHER USERS> and when you read this thread, dont just read half or parts of it, read it properly, form start to finish!Hi there dear reader welcome to my guide with new questions new roms and much much more things. It's The latest guide to roms and mods for the x8!!1. we do not accept trolling here. i do not want a flame war here.
2. these mainly benefits me and other rom testers ect.
3.click here for my FAQ that gets updated every week
right onto the guide iitself.
RootingRooting your phone is what you need to do before you install custom roms, modules, and kernels. Rooting means you have superuser access to your phone. a bit like a special admin on a computer. having superuser rights means you also have the power to change you system stuff, delete a system app, add modifications and so on. if you wish to root your phone then click here
great, you'v rooted your phone i hope, now for the fun stuff...
Basebands and kernelsI know that many people have baseband 006. you cant install roms with your baseband at 006 so you will have to change it to 015. unless your phone already has 015. for the baseband collection thread clickthis
i have also found a thread with a custom kernel. its linuxdx by doixanh. for the thread click here
Also a guide on building a kernel. click here for that
Roms:welcome to the rom part of this thread. custom roms are custom android versions, that can easily be modified and customized, they are more than just your average android. most of them are based on cm6 or cm7 or cm6 mini.
here are a couple of gingerbread roms i have found and tested.
gingerbread roms:Gingercruzt by frogy furnetal.
Gingerdx by doixanh
minicm7
froyo roms
froyo pro by XDA-RK
Froyobread by doixanh
sense roms by ratch
how to install custom roms:Now, custom roms are actually quite easy to install. as long as you follow the instructions bellow.
1. copy the rom to your sd card. no subfolder just the normal folder on its own on the sdcard.
2.boot into xrecovery (for more about recoveries click here, its my FAQ you will find info there
3.go to install custom .zip
it should come up with a load of folders you have on your phone. go to the bottom where you will find your rom and choose that.
4. install it and wait...
5. once installed, do a full wipe before rebooting or you could get stuck on rebooting.
5. your done!
Modifications.Right now on to the mods.
some people want dual touch or pinch to zoom for their phones.
well, guess what, you can.
if you have cypress chip on your phone (real dual touch) click here
If you have synaptics (fake pinch to zoom) then click here
If you want to overclock your phone then click here
If you want linuxdx then click Here
how to install linuxdx (and other kernels)I do have a thread about bootloaders and kernels but since i put it in my modifactions section i decided to put a TuT:
grab flashtool 2.9.1 (hard to get hold of but it is the only flashtool that works with flashing kernels, i do have it and i have flashed linuxdx v004 and alfs kernel v05 so i will load up the download file for flashtool 2.9.1)(click here to download flashtool 2.9.1 move linuxdx v004 .ftf to flashootl/firmwares
and open x10flashtool (works with x8 dont worry) click flash and choose file. then follow the onscreen instructions... (plug in x8 whilst holding back button, wait for a few minutes as some coding will show up on the computer screen, then it will say its done and you can disconnect your phone) once completed rebbot phone and enjoy!!!YOU MUST HAVE AN UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER TO LOAD CUSTOM KERNELS!
Recently asked questions!
Hello guys! i decided to update my thread and tell you about more recently asked questions:
How to unlock bootloader:
Answer: There is this thing called search bar, use it because there is more than just 2 threads about unlocking bootloader, actually there is a about 5
Why do i get a hard brick after unlocking my phones bootloader?
Answer: Check your date on the back of the phone: It should have a date such as 11w28 etc. If it is 11w32 and above, then stay away from the bootloader, it will only end up in tears. Many threads about this too, use the search button
Can we run IOS on our x8?
Answer: Are you crazy? check my post here for more. If your thinking of porting it or anything (not that it will ever happen )
if you have anymore things you want me to add, then post a reply saying so.
also check out my FAQ
this will be updated every week.
Also, how did you get to this thread? via my sig, or via searching the forums or searching google?

[Q] What his the Best ROM for GT540 right now? (7/05/2012)

Hi guys.. I just wanna know what is the best rom now for the LG gt540 (Swift)... I went to the subforum dedicated to this phone, but I see a lot of ROM, and as longer I check all, I don't know what can be the best choice..
I'm really new in this.. I just rooted my phone yesterday (I have my phone since 2010 =D)..
I update it with the official release to v2.1, but it is really slow, and I'm out of memory very soon (after a few app, I can't install others 'couse internal memory get full)..
Does anyonw know if there is some good ROM that just take up a little piece of memory, to let a lot more memory free?..
And if can be faster than 2.1, good, if not, is ok.. I really want, mainly, more space to can install more apps..
Thanks for your help!!!
first:
2.1 fastboot ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224747 )
then:
Repartition internal memory

and flash :
2.3.7:
SDSL 1.1 (wait for 1.2 coming soon)

or
tejasdj build 2

ty andreas.. I was reading the sticky posts.. I only have one problem.. Some links doesn't work..
I wanna have all of the programs recommended to start working with the phone..
The link with the drivers is not working (is no big deal 'couse I have the LG Updater that scan for the lastest drivers)..
The important one file missing is the fastboot.exe.. I can't find another link working.. can someone reupload it?..
I'm talking about the first post u recommend me: [HOW-TO] Install 2.1 + Fastboot + Recovery + Custom ROMs on GT540! (n00b friendly!)
ty very much

sdsl by miroslav_mm is best for me.good battery and performance
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364416
thx manhcuong90.. I indeed install that ROM.. Is very true that your battery life is increased..
I wanna advice some guy that is in my same position (noob =D)..
When I tryes to reboot in fastmode, everyone says: "start the phone pressing the camera button + power"..
That is true, but not at all.. u don't just start the phone right this, but u need to hold it untill the screen become black..
It happend to me that I started holding camera+power, and once the phone turned on, I release those buttons.. I've been almost 1 hour to figure out why it doesn't enter in fasboot mode lol...
Anyway, don't be noob like me..
Another advice, and now I'm talking to my friend andreas =D..
andreas, your steps are great, but need to resort one of them, the partition memory for ROM and Internal..
I followed your steps, by installing first some ROM with fasboot and than I install the recovery..
the 2nd step was partition of memory.. I couldn't did that.. idk now if is some ROM that cannot be done, but I tryed like eoghan2t7 says, and nothing..
I really gave up, so I jumped that step to install one of the 2 mods u let me to choose (I choose the 1st, miroslav_mm's one)..
After I let my phone with that build, I tryed to do the memory partition, and... whoala!! it worked..
So, in my case, it didn't work with some generic ROM, but with the miroslav_mm's ROM it does..
So, if someone wanna follow the steps of our friend andreas, just don't try the partiotion of memory before u install any other ROM, 'couse probably it will not work, and u will stay one or 2 hours trying to figure out WHY all other guys can, and u can't
Ok, I guess that is all.. Thx very much for those who helped me. .And I have to say, THIS FORUM RULEZ!!!.. I did found very helpfull information that help me out to flash my first ROM =D

hmm okay
the repartition only needs fastboot ^^ you can delete your whole system and data and still use fastboot so the ROM will change nothing to fastboot behavior ^^ maybe there was a problem with the fastboot connection but im pretty sure its possible to flash APPSBL to any fastboot ROM But after flashing you have to reinstall ROM anyways so it really just dosn't matter what u were using before
My next tip for you would be playing around with different tweaks
e.g Supercharger, Loopy smoothness tweak, different init.d tweaks, or swap if you have good SDcard (i don't have but using anyways )

What is the best fast rom?
GT540 Best Roms
I have flashed custom roms to GT540 no less than 70 times in 2 months. These roms were based on customized Froyo, gingerbread, ICS, JB 4.1.2 and JB 4.2.2 roms.
The best roms i suggest are:
Optimus Nexus 2.3.7
Jelly Bean 4.1.2-FlashXter
Both can be grabbed from XDA's or androidmodmarket (lists all custom roms with quick download links)
If you prefer performance over quality go for 2.3.7 and for most apps to run , 4.1.2 is the rom you need.
Secondly you can customize 4.1.2 archive using 7-zip (etc.) by adding system apps, themes , media files of your choice.
Note: Some of android 2.1 apps don't run on 2.3.7....so better use the JB 4.1.2 rom.

My Motivation
I do like Cyanogenmod as many of you do. Due to Samsung´s strange behaviour the CM Team still has a hard time with Google´s Jelly Bean on our Galaxy S2. It still causes troubles here and there, even tho the Developers did and do a amazing job on it. Many words, I know, ok, let me get the facts straight : I LOVE CM but I NEED some Samsung stuff.
In the past, with ICS it was possible, thanks to some very (very!!!!) good Developers, to dual boot Samsung ICS Rom and CM Roms. When Jelly Bean leak came out, we had to realize that this wasnt possible anymore as we now got the /preload partition because our /system partition wasnt big enough anymore to carry all needed files.
Even tho it is possible to use jazzk´s chameleon and CM Rom with DorimanX Kernel because jazzk didnt use the /preload partition, it was impossible to use another Stock or custom Samsung Rom.
That bugged me.
Thanks and Credits for all they have done to :
The Cyanogenmod Team for CM10.1

_Sofos_ for sharing the XWLSD Rom

Update 20.03.2013
I have been a bit lazy lately with all this but I tested some of the DorimanX Kernels. It seems that Kernel 8.3 and higher are more than OK now for booting both, CM and Sammy Roms. To me, as I didn´t follow all this very close, it got a bit confusing. Please read the last Pages, there are always some nice guys testing this & that AND they also give support.
Update 28.02.2013 Part 1
If you are looking for more different Setups / Videos & Tutorials, they are now in Post #6
Update 28.02.2013 Part 2
There has been a lot of confusion with several Updates in CM 10.1. While this is a very good Step ahead for Open Source Projects, it makes Dual Boot with Samsung based Roms a bit harder. dorimanx has been working hard to get it all running, even Dual boot between CM10.1 and XWLSD is possible but for me and many others, Camera and Video is broken in the Sammy Rom. I will edit this as soon as this is fixed because IMO his Version 8 is another Masterpiece.
But for now this will be a "dirty" or "faked" Dual Boot.
What you need :
- DorimanX 7.44 "LSD EDITION" (Thanks to THE RED BLUR for your help)
- Any AOSP/AOKP Rom you want to use
- PreLoadLSDrom.zip (More Details)
(This is an edited XWLSD Rom that fits into our /preload Partition. DON´T use as FIRST Rom, it has NO Kernel)
- Time
Now we start :
- Flash the AOSP/AOKP you want to use as FIRST (!) Rom
- Set it up and (optional if you need the boot.img or just to have a running System backed up) make a Backup from Recovery
- Flash the DorimanX 7.44 "LSD EDITION"
- Reboot into its Recovery and prepare 2nd Rom
- Install PreLoadLSDrom.zip
- Boot into 2nd Rom to see if it works
- Done for now
With this Setup you now have 2 independent Systems on your Phone. Flashing another Open Source Rom in FIRST will not touch your Sammy Rom as all (AFAIK) Open Source Roms don´t use/touch the /preload Partition.
Please note, flashing any Sammy Rom, that´s not edited for this, will delete this Setup.
As long as you are using one of the "older" Open Source Roms you can now boot both Roms from the DorimanX 7.44 "LSD EDITION"
If you use a Open Source Rom with the new Video Drivers (and all these things I don´t understand) you will now need to install the corresponding Kernel each time you want to switch between the Roms. For now, I can confirm that Dorimanx 8 runs perfect with CM10.1 (24th build) because I tested it. So, you may now flash the "LSD EDITION" for the LSD Rom or the DorimanX 8 Kernel for your AOSP/AOKP Rom. This is dirty for now but it´s safe and working. And I am sure there will be a fix for this, soon!
Update 28.02.2013 Part 3
I moved my first Tutorials to Post #3. This got way to confusing here.. Also, this Post is edited to make it easier for the People to find what they are searching for.

Even tho it is possible to use jazzk´s chameleon and CM Rom with DorimanX Kernel because jazzk didnt use the /preload partition, it was impossible to use another Stock or custom Samsung Rom.
That bugged me.
What I had was :
- a stock deodexed and rooted Jelly Bean Rom by Samsung from here
- a CM 10.1 Rom from here
- THE DorimanX Kernel 7.44 from here
- Rootbrowser Lite from Market (don´t know how to link it, but you will find it)
- TIME
If you have what I had, you can try the following lines...
First of all, I flashed the stock deodexed and rooted Rom I mentioned above (thanks to tedascuen for sharing)
I finished the complete Setup of the Rom, including Google Account, WLAN settings..
Now :
- download Rootbrowser Lite from Market
- use Rootbrowser Lite (now called RB) to delete all apps from /system/apps that I don´t need/use
- after that, reboot into stock recovery by holding Volume up + Home + Power
- do a Factory Reset
- reboot the System and finish the Setup of the Rom (as above)
- download RB Lite from Market again
- use RB to copy big files from /preload/symlink/system/apps to a folder in /data/apps/ that I named "sysapps"
Big Files I moved :
- ClockPackage.apk
- MusicPlayer.apk
- SamsungIME.apk
- SecBrowser.apk
- SecContacts.apk
- SecEmail.apk
- SecExchange.apk
- SecGallery2.apk
- SecLauncher2.apk
- SecMms.apk
- SecPhone.apk
- VideoPlayer.apk
Click to collapse
- now delete the old symlinks in /system/apps of the Files above (you will get some errors/FC while doing this)
- now switch to /data/apps/sysapps and start to create new symlinks with RB by longpressing the file and "create shortcut"
- switch to /system/apps again and paste the shortcut (important, do this one by one, show some patience)
- after you created all new symlinks, reboot the system, you will see, all apps work again!
- most of the other apps from /preload/symlink/system/apps will fit into /system/apps but don´t move useless apps like all apps containing "test" in their name or google plus (you can install that later from market) or "swype" or.... I am to lazy to write down all apps I didnt move but with a bit of common sense you will make it for sure.
- after moving the apps to /system/apps you will see that all apps you moved will be set to rw-r-r and all symlinks you created will be set to rwx-rwx-rwx, thats fine !
- reboot the phone, everything should work fine
If so...
- flash the DorimanX Kernel 7.44 and
- reboot into his recovery
- switch to dual-boot options and set up the 2nd Rom
- clone 1st Rom to 2nd Rom
- reboot into 2nd Rom just to check if it works (it will)
now...
- reboot into recovery and install the CM10.1 made by MCM from here
- after the installation has finished, reboot the system and let CM10.1 boot
(GAPPS are not needed, yet but you may install them before you boot into CM)
- I really hope the CM has booted fine, now open STweaks
- in STweaks, change OpenSource Gralloc to Samsung´s Gralloc
- reboot the system and check in STweaks if the change worked (Samsung´s Gralloc)
now...
- reboot into recovery and flash the DorimanX Kernel again (or use Odin)
- after that, reboot again and you will see the Dual Boot Screen, you can choose first or second Rom
- DONE !!!
Another Way was...
Due to my slow internet connection I will only provide the way and the updater script here. Anybody who likes to help may link the Rom with the updated files here, this would be very kind !
To do what I did I used this : Notepad++ and 7zip !
Ok, lets go !!
- copy the stock deodexed Rom I mentioned above (for the lazy people, Link) to your PC
- Use 7zip to unzip the Rom (or any other tool!)
- unzip the attached file and replace the updater-script in /META-INF/com/google/android/ (in the unzipped Rom)
- in the unzipped Rom, go to /preload/symlink/system and move the complete "app" folder to /data/app
- your data folder should look like this : /data/app/app
- delete the now empty /preload folder
- use 7zip to compress data+META-INF+system+temp folders again
- copy your new compressed ROM on your SD Card
- boot your phone into recovery and install your ROM
- done !
I just did this exactly that way (after editing the updater script) and it worked perfectly for me. I can´t tell about performance or problems as I just tested this to see if it will run. Any feedback is more than appreciated.

Thanks to the great Idea and work of hawkerpaul there is now another, way easier and more simple way to setup 2 Roms for Dual Boot ! (look here for his thread)
I will try to explain as good as I can with a Samsung Rom (XWLSD) that I modified to make it run with another, Kernel compatible AOSP Rom !
Once again, all Credits for the "Magic" of the ROMs go to their respective Developers. I just modified the Updater Script a little, removed a lot of "Bloatware" and moved as many Apps as possible to /system partition. The /preload/symlink/system/app folder only contains a few Apps and has only about 80MB now.
Now we can use the /preload partition with both Roms which gives us much more smoothness/speed and an overall more stable system!
Before you start please note !
- The "myLSDrom.zip" contains a modified DorimanX 7.44 Kernel that is able to run XWLSD Sammy Rom (Thanks to THE RED BLUR for the Heads up)(Post). So, for now, the 2nd Rom needs to be compatible with this Kernel or you need to search another Kernel for this by yourself. I can and will not support this as I am not a Developer but a simple User and I am very happy with this Setup right now.
- The "myLSDrom.zip" also contains Goldieking´s amazing TeamAllianceMod. Why ? Because I LOVE it.
- I removed as much Samsung Stuff as possible. Even Samsung IME got replaced by Xperia S Kexyboard from here. If you don´t like my Setup you can do this by yourself with a XWLSD Rom, just let me know if you need help. I will try to write down a Tutorial !
1. Download myLSDrom.zip from here
2. Download the Rom you like to have as second one
3. Download hawkerpaul´s GS2PreloadRestore v1.04 and GS2PreloadBackup v1.03 from here (Downloadlink not yet ready)
4. Put all Files somewhere on your SD Card (internal/external) where you will find it later
5. Install myLSDrom.zip as first Rom and set it up
6. Boot into Recovery and Backup the Rom
7. Run GS2PreloadBackup v1.03 to backup the /preload/symlink Folder (install zip from SD Card will start it)
8. Now install the 2nd Rom
- usually while we install a Rom, the /system partition gets formatted. When we install a ROM as second, the Kernel leads to /preload as system partition. That´s why we usually lose all Files inside /preload. Thanks to hawkerpaul, that´s no Problem anymore
9. Run GS2PreloadRestore v1.04 to restore the backup of our /preload/symlink
10. DONE !!!!
If you run into Problems, please do not quote this all!

Thanks for your Attention
Follow these few steps careful and you will end up like I did, with a CM10.1 and a Samsung Jelly Bean XWLS8 Rom on the same Phone.
1. Download your favorite CM 10 or CM 10.1 Rom
2. Download the modified Stock deodexed & rooted XWLS8 Sammy Rom from here or the FULL ROM provided by Troubadour666, thank you very much for this !!
- the modified Stock is very "Lite" but I will write down the way to get the missing files if you need them !
- the FULL ROM provided by Troubadour666 contains ALL FILES !
3. Copy both Roms and the DorimanX 7.44 Kernel to the root of your SD Card, or wherever, just make sure you´ll be able to find them later !
4. CAREFUL ! PLEASE DO THIS STEP BY STEP !!!
5. Install the "literom.zip" (the downloaded modified Stock Rom)
6. Let it boot completely (important) with the stock Kernel (important) (this may take a while but it will boot!!)
7. Now install the DorimanX Kernel and boot into its Recovery
8. Setup the 2nd Rom
9. Clone 1st Rom to 2nd Rom
10. Try to boot into 2nd Rom (I hope it will) and let it boot, just to make sure
11. Reboot into DorimanX Recovery, do a Factory Reset/Wipe all
12. Install the CM Rom of your choice (my choice : MCM´s builds, AWESOME!) and let it boot completely (Gapps are not needed right now)
13. CAREFUL ! PLEASE READ !!!
14. If you are using MCM´s CM 10.1 you need to (thanks to unexist6969 for that Info!!!!)
- start STweaks
- in systemsettings, change Gralloc to "Samsung Gralloc"
- exit STweaks and reboot once to check if Samsung Gralloc is applied
- if so, reboot into Recovery again
15. Install the DorimanX Kernel again (cwm or odin, I prefer CWM flash, never had problems or yellow Triangle)
16. Reboot, you just set up a nice running Dual Boot System ! Congratulations !!
Hint : If you run into a bootloop after step 16, hold Volume up+Home+Power till you enter Recovery and wipe cache and Dalvik cache, this will work

Please note : If you want to apply any visual Mod on this, you need to change a lot of things. An Example, I am using the Alliance AOSP Mod (AWESOME stuff,LINK) and I had to copy the Files manually because the Mod points to /preload..but don´t worry, copy n paste will do, they allready did all the MAGIC (seriously great stuff) !
If you miss Samsung Stuff follow these easy steps :
- Get the Full Rom from first Post
- inside you will find a Folder called "Preload" extract that on your PC
- copy the Apps you missed to your Phone SD Card
- now use Root Browser Lite to copy them to /data/apps/apps
- Longpress (RB Lite) the File and tap "create shortcut"
- Switch to /system/apps and paste the shortcut
- Do this with each File and reboot, DONE.
This may sound complicated but really, it isnt. Don´t be afraid to ask questions that are not answered here or in First Post!!
EDIT:
Important : All MIRRORS are very welcome as i don´t know how Google Drive handles Bandwith. Also, feel free to post your own Full or modded Versions here as long as you give propper Credits to the DEVELOPERS. Please keep in mind, we are nothing without them!
If your Version is confirmed to be working I will add it here (if you like).
Greetings & thanks for your Attention
Thomas
It Works
So as i say to you in MP, i download the files in post 9 (removed since)
and i repack it as a normal flashable ZIP , with WINRAR , i add last dori in too
and i flash it in second rom. before that i format second rom data and cache, wipe data/cache too.
so I boot and i m happy with my ls8n in rom2. thank's for that !
Re: Dual boot Samsung JB XWLS8 and CM10(.1) [ROM ADDED]
Script worked with neatrom full. Just needed rename sale to tmp.
Cloned 1st ROM to 2nd ROM and viewed current status and it didn't show 2nd ROM.
installed cm10.1 to 1st ROM and changed gralloc to Samsung.
Installed dorimanx 7.45 and booted but there wasn't any dual boot screen, just dorimanx logo.
I'll try this again later today with new steps

Hey,
thanks for feedback!
I think the NeatRom Updater Script is very different to the Stock one but I seriously don´t know for sure. I can only tell that the way I described will work wih the Download I provided (tested by myself) and DorimanX 7.44. If you find the Time, try it with the Rom I provided (literom.zip) from Post #15 and follow the Steps again. If you run into Problems then, maybe me or another User will be able to help you.
But in generally I would expect the Problems in the different UpdaterScript.
If you want to use NeatRom you may still try my first way in First Post (manually moving the Files)
Hope that helped a bit!
Greetings
Thomas
Re: Dual boot Samsung JB XWLS8 and CM10(.1) [ROM ADDED]
OK, I'll test test ROM and see if it works. And test more with neatrom full
And do I have to do that gralloc thing? Can you explain why is this needed?

I can not really explain, I followed a hint from Unexist6969. Fact is, MCM's build will not run with DorimanX if you don't change it.
A wild guess is the Ram allocation to Graphics is different in Open Source Gralloc but if you want to go deeper into this you may ask a Developer.
Greetings
Thomas
