My current CM is 4.1.44.1, and am following these instructions to update since I am below 4.1.99
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Upgrading_From_Older_CyanogenMod_or_other_rooted_ROMs
Well, when in Recovery mode, I do not have the option to "ALT+A" to choose the .zip to apply. I only have "ALT+S" which is to apply "update.zip"
The top of the Recovery screen reads JF v1.42. My friends rooted G1 can also use the trackball to scroll up/down, not me.
Did I root my G1 an outdated way, How can I update the recovery screen to give me the option to "Alt+A" and use the trackball
You could upgrade your recovery image if you feel that it's outdated. You should be able to find instructions in the thread for that recovery.

Sweet!!! Worked just like you recommended.
Thanks!!!
After trying CM7 I really appreciated the simple initial boot sequence
during which the led flashes first blue then green and then boot starts
this allows to call the clockworkmod recovery at startup by pressing volume down while the led is blue
How is this particular boot tool called?
I would like to try to install it on top of the stock rom.
A sideline question is what is actually "fixed" in the fixed sbf that must be flashed on top of CM7 on gingerbread M2 phones?
It is just bootmenu (or I can say newer version of CWM).
This is how you proceed:
1) root your rom
2) install droid2bootstrap
3) install Bootmenu: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196590

thank you
what I can see is that if I flash the fixed sbf on top of the official stock
my scripts for memory management work and also if I run "top" on the terminal
I see almost no com.motorola.blur etc. running
Does anybody know what else is in there?
Hey !
I have a Motorola Defy that uses Android 2.2.2 Froyo and I'm a bit lost.
I recently discovered the Custom ROMs and I want to install one on my device. CyanogenMod 9.
But I also want to keep my original ROM (just in case I have issues with CM9).
I read MultiBoot is an app that allow multibooting. Does it work with the original ROM ?
Thank you for your help.
yes cm9 can be multibooted with stock froyo
Follow these simple manual steps (no need of any app)
Root your device
Install 2ndinit
install cwm bootmenu
Install multiboot.zip by stable recovery( search a bit for this)
Place fsimages folder in root of sdcard( search this too)
Install cm9 nightly( in your case use froyo kernel nightly) by latest/custom recovery
Reboot and open bootmenu ( by pressing vol down on blue led)
Select boot - 2nd boot, your phone will restart with cm9
I have been upgrading a friend's Blade but I've run into trouble. I rooted the froyo firmware and flashed CWM. Now if I try to boot into recovery via "adb reboot recovery" it somewhat works but if I try to get into the recovery via Vol - + Power it doesn't. It just gets stuck at splash screen and won't bulge. But if I have flashed a stock recovery I can boot into FMT. This is not the end of it though.
I went on to flash CM9 KonstaKANG release but wanted to do a reflash after doing TPT conversion, the TPT part went fine but now I later realised that I can't get into CWM. So...I got stuck. I flashed a Gen 2 stock via Windows and flashed a TPT image.bin I found that contained a stock 2.3.5 firmware. Brilliant, life saved...no? Turns out I can't root it, so I can't flash a custom recovery to it and boot into it in order to flash CM9. So....I did a bunch of other stuff and at this point the blade has a CWM recovery which I can't boot into, empty system partition and pretty much a boned status. I thought I'll flash a stock 2.2 TPT which I found at: http://amphoras.co.uk/downloads/blade-tpts but the one with a ROM are in some other format than TPT and I can't figure out how to flash them. Can anyone help me here?
Install rom manager (available in google play as a freeware) then flash clockwork mod recovery.
Now u can enter recovery with just 1 tap ie "reboot into recovery"
NOTE USB debugging should be enabled at all times
Add on:
You can root ur phone using an app named z4root.
To permanently root it search google and click the android modaco link
Sent from my Blade using xda app-developers app

Heh, not only have you screwed up CWM, you also converted your phone into a GEN3 phone in the process (by flashing that 2.3.5 TPT).
Easiest way to fix it:
1, download: http://bit.ly/yUi4Nu (stock partition layout, if you want a 160MB system layout use: http://bit.ly/wEO8Im )
2. unpack it to your sdcard (/image/image.bin)
3. flash it like you would any TPT
You should have CWM installed at this point (just press and hold vol- during bootup) and now you can flash whatever ROM you want to.

Well, u mean no blue LED during boot after flashing 18/10?
If so what do u mean ' i have replace my system/bootmenut/recovery into the old one that i back up before'? Why have u done it? How u did it?
And what was your parent system?
Which working custom ROM u had?
BTW: 18/10 is 2ndboot, not 2ndinit ROM

Sorry sir I dont really understand what is 18/10 2ndboot or 2nd init room, I just flash the latest rom from quarx and there was an information about 2ndboot or something
I mean sir i had successfully flash from 24/09 cm10 quarx (this rom doesnt have an information about 2nd boot) into 18/10 CM10 Quarx (CM10-20121018-NIGHTLY-mb526.zip and update_for_18.10_v4.zip) , all is working fine but the recovery room is in trouble, i cant enter there, always come back to normal start.
I heard from my friend u can fix the recovery room by copy the old system/bootmenu/recovery and replace it using root explorer, then your recovery room will be working again. I had done that but not working at all, I still cant enter recovery room.
is there any way to recover/fix my recovery room ??
Thank you

Have you tried a normal reboot and then pressing volume down on the blue LED, or is there no blue LED?
I know that selecting boot into recovery does not work on the new ROM's

Miss here before and after flashing to wipe dalvik cache? Before recovering nandroid you have to wipe data and cache 1st
Reboot into recovery doesn't work in latest quarx release (custom kernel). This is a known issue. Press volume down on blue led as mentioned above.
i didn't do wipe dalvik cache after flashing. because before flashing i had wipe dalvik cache before .. is this a mistake ???
I had tried normal recovery by pressing volume down + power button, and there's no LED blue button ...
is there anything that I can do to fix this

Look, to get it into recovery do these steps:
1: Turn on the phone
2: Pay attention to the notifications LED (the one to the left of your front speaker and the Motorola logo)
3: When it light up in Blue, press the Volume Down button (FAST!)
4: Voila, you are in recovery.
These are pretty basic steps that you should know before trying to flash anything on your device.
There's a great starter guide on the General section, I would suggest you to read that.

The "Reboot into Recovery" mode is not working due to the mandatory 2nd-boot setting in CWM. For the moment you can only enter CWM via the manual method as described by thiagoelg
1: Turn on the phone
2: Pay attention to the notifications LED (the one to the left of your front speaker and the Motorola logo)
3: When it light up in Blue, press the Volume Down button (FAST!)
4: Voila, you are in recovery.
Ah yeah the stable recovery works, thank you sir
the Stock recovery doesnt work, but I guess that because quarx do it purposely.
Thank You
