Lock screen complaint - Kindle Fire General

I have a rooted kindle, I installed the market, I'm using golauncher ex, I downloaded a live wallpaper and it works great, but when I lock the device and then unlock it, it sets the lock screen wallpaper as the main screen wallpaper, its really annoying, is there any way to change this without going to a different custom Rom? I like having the option to switch back and forth from the default to something different mainly for the Play Market. And the books from the default. Quiet the delema.

Rooted KF ADW Launcher Ex Wallpaper Changes on every unlock

Hi,
I have a rooted kindle fire & I have set up ADW Launcher EX as my daily driver. I have a weird problem whereby the wallpaper changes every time I unlock my device. This is really annoying as some of the backgrounds are really bright and it becomes difficult to read and see the screen.
Even if i set a wallpaper on my own, as soon as I unlock the device the wallpaper again changes.
Please advise what to do?
Thanks!!
I just tested this on mine as well. It appears to use whatever image is used in the unlock screen. I would be curious to see if there is a folder of images that the unlocker uses that could be tweaked to include custom images. Perhaps of I have time today or this weekend ill poke around the filesystem and see if this is the case. If you find out anything definitely post it up though I would be interested in fixing this on mine as well.

Does this on an unrooted Fire too.
Yes, same situation with unrooted KF

Of note, WidgetLocker has been updated to work around this if you've rooted. The wallpaper replacement was taking place entirely in the lock screen it seems. Bypass that and no more wallpaper changes.

Will this work on a non-rooted KS?
Never mind. In order to run WidgetLocker, it must be rooted. My bad!!!
Hi all. Head over to this thread for a quick and simple solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1375825

I tried the suggested mod - first I changed wallpaper to just a simple jpg that I had (I'm using ADW EX launcher). Then, before I even had a chance to use the method, the wallpaper immediately reverted back to one of the ugly Amazon wallpapers. I am rooted (BurritoRoot) and on 6.21
Does this method depend on the nature of the jpeg image because for the life of me, I cannot get a wallpaper to stick.
There's an app called rotating wallpaper that if set up correctly will fix this. Works without root. It will update the wallpaper every minute to keep your wallpaper intact. Its not perfect but works pretty well.

Hey docfreed, I don't know whether there is a difference with what type of image file you use. I'm personally currently running go launcher ex and using its live wall papers with no problem after using the method I suggested. In your case maybe change the permissions and then change the wallpaper? I'm curious how that works out for you. Wish I could be more helpful.

Maybe I'll switch to Go Launcher and give it a try - it maybe something in ADW EX. But let me ask, do you chmod to 550 first or change the wallpaper first? 'cause I cannot get the wallpaper to stay at all - after I set it to my own jpeg, it changes almost instantly - could that be the pernmissions on the wallpaper file?

docfreed, so before I solved the problem, I'd switch wallpaper, whether it was a Live Wallpaper from Go Launcher Ex or a simple jpeg from my albums, the wallpaper would stick and stay, but as soon as I turned off the fire and back on, the stock wallpaper would return (which is the problem this thread is trying to resolve). I never experienced an immediate re-switch like you are.
When I tried out the solution (changing the permissions in the wallpaper folder in /data/data/com.android.settings/files), I first changed to a Live Wallpaper, then changed the permissions, and haven't had a problem since.
In your case, since you get the immediate re-switch, try changing the permissions first THEN change your wallpaper and see if that helps.
Let us know if that works, hope it does!
I understand how frustrating not being able to control wallpapers is.

Anyone want wallpapers on kfhd?

First off, I am a NOOB. So take what I did with a grain of salt, it may not be right. If I could get a senior member to check this out as well. I installed 2 launchers, go launcher hd and adw launcher ex. Then installed wallpaper wizardii, now I can use my pictures to set the background. You have to use "no scroll" in the settings. I am still playing with the functions, and it looks better on go launcher hd than adw launcher ex, but it works.
Rooted kfhd , step by step set up.
Do you have to be rooted to install launchers? I am un rooted and it never shows up in my app list. I can side load just fine, just not launchers. Tried Nova and go had.

if you are rooted, if you move the apps to system/app you can change there permissions. This allows for you to change the launcher to any launcher by default. So that when you press the home button you don't have to be forced back into the amazon launcher. Completely different from side loading the apps. I highly recommend it if you prefer a different launcher like me.

Ok thank you, I did not know that I had to change the permissions and file location. I am going to root my Fire tomorrow and then I will do that.

Word to the wise--DO NOT set your new launcher as default until you are very sure it is working ok. You can get stuck in the boot loader and believe me it is no fun!
Ok I have rooted it and installed apex and it is very nice. Everything is working smoothly. Now i might go make a theme pack to make it look like stock ics. What are the dangers of modifying framework-res.apk?

Although I can only make out half of what you wrote - I can confirm I too had this problem with Apex ("Apex has stopped working"). Luckily, I was able to get into my email through the favorites star and clear defaults. I dont know why, but the Apex launcher will not work for me.

Blurry kindle wallpapers
For anyone whose having a trouble finding a good unblurrywallpaper for you Kindle Fire (if using a launcher):
Search the Google Play store for an app called Wallbase
Once installed, go to Settings --> Resolution --> Select "2560x1600"
Find a wallpaper you like and set it as you wallpaper. WALA! You can also save it so you can ur wallpaper while offline via Wallbase.
I hope people who have problems with blurry Kindle wallpapers get to see this. I was surprised when I found this out! GOOD LUCK!

Launchers for the HDX 7

Ok, so I'm trying to find a decent launcher for the HDX. I'm going to chronicle my struggle with this great launcher deficit. I do realize there is a "Working Launcher Thread", but it's rather strewn about and disorganized. I would like to make my first contribution to this forum a comprehensive Launcher list, with a quick n' dirty prognosis of each item.
Kindle Fire HDX 7"
Stock ROM Version 13.3.2.4
Rooted with Towelroot
OTA Updates Disabled
I was just going to flash a new ROM, but I was not able to boot into any ROM Manager. If anyone could point me in the direction of a good ROM and ROM Manager that works with the KFHDX7, I'd be highly appreciative. Now, I digress.
Key:
Glitchy and/or Sucky
Mediocre
Awesomesauce
Tested the following launchers:
Otter(aka stock "Home"): Obviously, this one sucks the proverbial balls. No customizability, no widgets. My whole motivation for rooting.
Next Launcher 3D 3.10: Looked pretty, but unfortunately too glitchy.
GO Launcher HD: Stable thus far. Somewhat busy. GO Widgets work, if you have Google Play.
KitKat Launcher 1.14: Stable, minimalist design. Surprisingly, did use slightly more RAM than relatively cluttered GO Launcher(without Widgets activated)
Holo Launcher HD 2.0.4: Worked great until I rebooted. Sent my device into epileptic crisis.
Galaxy/Touchwiz Beta v5: Always in landscape mode, would not react to moving device to portrait mode.
GEL/Google Now: Widget support! However, I did need the Xposed Framework and GEL Settings app to make things work properly.
Unfortunately, NONE of the launchers had native widget support. They would simply crash when trying to add a launcher to the homescreen. I'm guessing this has something to do with the KFHDX OS itself. The exception to this was GO Launcher, which had working GO Widgets. To be honest, I wasn't overly impressed by the GO Widgets.
Also, another common theme was issues with the screen orientation.Several launchers had problems with device orientation. When in landscape mode with Next, you could not move icons around. The screen would invert, and you would 'drop' the icon. When in portrait mode, the persistent launcher frame with the Home/Back/Apps/Search button would cause the Next launcher bar to overlap some of the icons on the screen, thereby rendering them inaccessible. The same thing happened with KitKat as far as being unable to move icons around when in landscape mode. However, there was no issue with overlapping elements, so this was less of a deal-breaker.
I use Nova on mine. Everything works great widgets and all.
I'm using the everythingme launcher. Its my new favorite.

Everything me crashed on me every time
Nova prime and Apex both working perfectly. Widget support, wallpapers etc
I installed KK Launcher from the Play Store. Once downloaded you can all install the KK Locker which will replace your Amazon lockscreen with KitKat style one. In the settings of KK Locker choose the disable default lockscreen option and it will take you to the amazon lockscreen options, then back out of it. Reboot device. The amazon lockscreen will appear for a few seconds, then disappear. From then on, the KK Locker screen always appears, no double lockscreen. If you download Android L Wallpapers by AKWS, you can use it to change wallpapers. You can also change the keyboard by installing keyboard of your choice and then finding it under keyboard languages. I installed Android L keyboard from the Play Store and found it under languages as "English (United States)" and checked it. There is another option with same name already checked and that was the Amazon Keyboard, which I unchecked. Then selected the checked keyboard under default and voila. Now my Fire HDX looks like an AOSP Android L (except when entering settings).
BTW - If you go to the app drawer within the launch and select manage apps, it will open the Amazon app manager, but you will lose your onscreen buttons at the bottom of the screen. I did this while typing this post ... still trying to get them back Maybe I can figure out how to load the AOSP buttons in their place:fingers-crossed:
KK Launcher : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kk.launcher&hl=en
KK Locker : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kk.locker&hl=en
Android L Wallpapers : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=alexanderkazmin.androidlwallpapers&hl=en
Android L Keyboard : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.e.android.softkeyboard&hl=en
First a preamble....
I am thinking this might be better placed in the themes and apps section, but I am not sure.
If you have read all of the posts about bricking, you would know that flashing a replacement Rom is both dangerous and bound to fail because we do not have an unlocked boot loader yet.
Be careful with implementation, but if you want to experiment with alternate roms, head over to the developer section, read everything about Dagestan for your particular device, and then have a it. Be sure the first thing you do is back up your current Rom. Then make a new slot, and only make changes on new slots.
Okay with that our of the way...
As others have stated, I use Nova. It is quite nice.
For those of you who have issues with typical Android things like wallpapers and widgets, Amazon left out some apps that run those services. Some launchers do not need those services to implement those things. Most do.
You can install those services safely (without locking up your device) by using Kindle Free. It is an app that is in the play store. I just used the free one.
I was happy to discover that even Amazon Native apps come with widgets that can be used once the fix is applied.
I am on the OEM Rom, rooted.
Good luck. Sorry if this comes across as pejorative, but a lot of people are bricking their devices and I would hate for that
T to happen to anyone else.
Apex works well for me. Love that you can resize widgets. Wallpapers work well. That being said, there is the occasional glitch that is fixed with a reboot.

Amazon Kindle doesn't open when I use Apex. Haven't tried other launchers but expect the same thing to occur. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix that?
Thanks

Setting lockscreen wallpaper

I've rooted my HD 10 2017 (5.6.0.0), installed google services/play store etc, then unrooted. One thing I don't see how to change is the lockscreen wallpapers. Whenever I turn on the display there's another wallpaper there. They're very nice but how do I replace them with a single wallpaper, such as the same one I'm using when unlocked?
Perhaps related - the app Magic Fluids has an option for live wallpapers but it doesn't work on this device. I wonder if it's for a related reason?
I did disable a bunch of amazon apps but I was fairly careful and I don't remember any mentioning wallpapers.

The simple no frills way... Settings --> Display --> Wallpaper
Your wallpaper and lock screen background will be the same. There may be some apps out there on Google play that will set each individually, but I haven't tried yet. I only got my HD10 yesterday and rooted and installed all the Google stuff. Pleasantly surprised I got YouTubeTV to work. Love this tablet so far.
EDIT.. answered my own question... I installed Google Wallpapers and set a wallpaper there and it changed my home screen but my lock screen seems to be controlled by the Amazon wallpaper settings. So set your lock screen wallpaper first via the settings menu, and then go get Google wallpapers (others may work too) and set your homescreen.

Cannot set custom launcher as default AND cannot change wallpaper!

Hi! I just bought a new Amazon Fire HD 10 Plus, the latest version, and used Fire Toolkit to remove all the Amazon stuff. I installed both Niagara and Nova launchers, and they will not stay set as the default launchers...
Also, I cannot change wallpaper in my settings! It just keeps jumping back to the previous settings screen.
Not sure what is going on, everything else Toolkit did is fine. Thanks!
You are running Fire OS 7.3.2.2? Amazon protected some system apps, including launcher. So it is not possible to change the default launcher.

I'm having the same issue. When I try to change the wallpaper it exits out of the settings. I was able to change wallpapers though using other wallpaper apps. For instance, the Resplash app on Google Play store let me download and change the lockscreen/home screen wallpaper with no issue.
The only issue is changing the wallpaper from the settings menu. That doesn't work for some reason.
