OK I am running 7.2.0-RC1 on eMMC, really happy with as my daily driver
What I'm seeing is on every book in notification there is a msg about SD is safe to remove. I do have access to my SD in file manager. But going into settings/storage /mnt/emmc is not mounted and will not mount. Is this normal?
Thanks

It is not normal. Are you sure you are seeing your SD or emmc? There is a setting that will let you swap emmc and SD. Its under cyanogenmod settings under apps, I think. Then your filemanager will think it is looking at SD, but is really looking at emmc. Take out the SD and see what your file manager sees. That coupled with your SD not being mounted properly could be what's happening.
tried your suggestion
First thanks for your reply.
I have gone to settings/CyanogenMod Settings and activated "use internal storage", power off and then remove SD.
After rebooting I still see emmc and sd empty in file manager app
ok after making above changes here is what it says in settings/storage
SD: unavailable
internal 5gb total and 4gb free
additional storage /mnt/emmc: 29gb and 10gb free
*update*
Ok I have tried to wipe my system and redo everything using the newest Mirage 7.2-RC1 3/30/2012
I first booted with my 1gb clockwork recovery sd and wipe system and cache and then install new rom
afterward restore apps (only) using titanium backup
I still have the notification that "SD is clear to remove"
but I can access my sd, not sure if I am able to access EMMc, although everything works as it should
Also I have parly apps installed internally and some copied to SD (using manage apps)
Thanks for any help

I'm having this major issue with all the 2.3 ROMs no matter what. Some apps just refuse to install when before there was no issue. It's exactly as here. http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...on-usb-storage-or-sd-card-problem-on-android/
I tried searching for the smdl2tmp1.asec file but couldn't find it either on the internal or external sd cards. Plus I am unable to mount the internal card on windows to search for the file.
I deleted /system/etc/init.d/11dalviklocation but that just made it worse. Now all my widgets died. I see a /HWUserData under storage settings now which wasn't there in 2.2 ROMS and I never had this issue in 2.2 ROMs.
Also, at bootup, I always see a notification in the statusbar. SD card safe to remove. And under the /HWUserData storage, I see mount the sd card. It seems the system refuses to mount the sd card or the /HWUserdata additional storage which appears under storage settings.
The only way I can install the hard to install apps is by unmounting my external sd card then installing the app which i guess forces the app to install on the internal sd card.
I installed this mod, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112857&highlight=partition Geno's Custom you data partition's size. Could this be contributing to the problem? Is there a way to search for the file smdl2tmp1.asec file using recovery and deleting it? This issue cropped up after installing an Oxygen ROM and from then on any 2.3 rom I installed has this issue. It's bugging the hell out of me, I'm currently running CM7 and its perfect except for this issue. Help anyone?
First: try to fix permissions from recovery.
Does it mount your SD as SD or your internal sd??? Hwuserdata should correspond to your internal sd. If they are swapped, use root explorer, find fstab file and swap them again

I tried fix permissions in cwm 4.0.1.5 latest. Didn't work. What's the meaning of swapped? "find fstab file and swap them again". How do I do that? Where is the fstab file? closest i found is the vold.fstab file. that it?
I see this in the vold.fstab file.
dev_mount emmc /HWUserData 14/devices/platform/msm_sdcc.2/mmc_host/mmc0
dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard auto/devices/platform/msm_sdcc.4/mmc_host/mmc2
That make any sense? Thanks for the reply! This thing is driving me nuts!
It seems that your sd card is damaged.
I suggest before mess with system stuff, to backup all sdcard content on your pc and format your sdcard. Then insert it back to device and try to see if the problems solved.

I did that before actually. formatted my sd card. Could it be a file on the external sd thats causing it? Since I copied back everything on the sd card after formatting it.
For this reason I said to put it on before recopy anything. Maybe some of android system files/folders on sdcard are damaged.
Damn! It was the SD card after all! What a headache! I copied everything except all the hidden files on the sd card which began with (.) Now everything works fine! Can't believe it. Such a simple thing and so much problems it caused.
So can you please tell me what you exactly did. Cause i don't understand but i have the same problem too. I have no root and i have froyo 2.2.1
EDIT: i made it by connecting to the pc and deleting a file...
Hi guys, so I backed up my sd card and went on a little quest. Never knew what this did so tried it out, went onto clockwork and did an sd partition of 1024mb. Turned phone on sd card worked fine, tried installing a big game but still it said not enough space when there is 2.5gb empty on sd card. So that failed I went onto MAGLDR and onto services and cleared sd partition. Now I turn phone on and it says no sd card and prompts me to format it on status bar, but then it still doesn't work. Tried mounting it via usb but still the sd card is not showing up. Has my sd card corrupted? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also some instructions on how to properly install apps 2 sd, as just moving to the sd card on settings doesn't fully move the app, some of it still remains in the internal and after installing 50+ apps it comes down to 20mb internal memory and says I have no more internal space.
Regards

if a rom supports a2sd (typhoon, for example,) you do not have to do anything, it will automatically use an ext partition if it finds one.
If you choose 'move to sd card' for an app, it will be REMOVED from the ext partition, and placed on the fat32 partition (where it may not work), so DO NOT choose 'move to sd', all your apps should be set to internal, and the rom will put them in the ext partition.

Well, i would start with HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool to format the sd card back to original. Then start from there.

And @samsamuel wouldnt he benefit more from data2ext? From my experiences, that puts EVERYTHING on the ext partition. just puting my two cents in, (its about all i got xP )

Depends on what your needs are, .,,, running everything from the SD means much of the nand is unused, what's the point of that? Typhoon for instance,, 150mb system, say 20mb for cwm and boot, that's (round up) 200mb used out of 512,, nothing is gonna use the other 300mb, so might as well let the data use it.
Right I'm running this ice ROM off the nand: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1441462
[22-04-12][ROM] Unofficial AOKP for HD2 [Build 33][4.0.4][tytung_ics_r1]
It does say apps2sd is possible on thread op, so would I just partition my SD card on clockwork to 1024mb then just install apps without moving them to SD manually? Is that really it?

True, thats why i dont use either, i have the Tmous version so i ihave about 760 mb of unused nand. Only way id prolly use a partition is if i got a lot of bad blocks, but i only have about 5 bad blocks right now in just my data partition.

Yes, yes it is just partition sd card using minitool partition or disk utility(linux) and you should be good, i dont believe you have to reinstall the ROM either because apps2sd is an init.d script which gets ran upon boot.
Hello
I accidentaly partitioned my internal SD from the recovery console. I can see it fine, when my phone boots under cm9. The problem is that I cannot use it to store applications.
When I go to settings->storage, I can see the following storages :
1) Internal Storage total space 114MB
2) USB Storage total space 7.38GB
I tried to install google maps and I got a not enough available memory message.
Post in Q&A section please
Btw you can re-partition it again and try
Sorry. I said it was a question somewhere, though!!
I repartitioned it again a while ago, and I still get internal storage 114MB, which means I have very little space to install apps that cannot be moved to the SD.
Am I missing something else here?

Depending on what type of partition you may have made earlier ...rfs or ext 4.. your phone may be only reading one of this partitions...best to unmount and format to your current phones format
I repartitioned and formated it under recovery mode.
Nonetheless, when I go to settings->storage, I can only see the 7.38GB of the internal SD under the USB STORAGE section.
I only have 152KB of recognizable internal storage available now, which means I can`t install anything.
I use the recovery mode to partition the internal SD. I want my internal SD, to be recognized as internal, as it used to be before I used the partition utility.
Gasp!!

undo your lagfix FIRST ..than use menu > settings> storage> unmount and format to recover full SD card space
I found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=733343
where someone gives a script that removes the lagfix, or so he claims. Can I copy it over to my phone and then use the terminal to execute it?

pretty old thread, not sure as to what kernel that script is for .
Why not try to undo partition in recovery as that option should be there...the same way you were able to partition .
Sorry pal for being so persistive but I cannot find any undo partition in the recovery.
Do I really need to lagfix before I try what you suggested before? What does the lagfix do anyway?
One important thing I just noticed. I cannot unmount it, under settings->storage because it ain`t recognized under the SD CARD section but under USB STORAGE.
Ain`t that odd?

one and the same thing lagfix changes rfs (original samsung format) to ext 2 or ext 4 formats
the partitioning you have done... I assume is to ext 4 or is it ext 2?

well, this would be case, because, you have two different partitions and your system cannot read one because its is using the other.
In storage you can unmount and format using your PC, as that would be the only option for you now (so best you use this option, but first copy the entire contents of SD card to your PC) after format you can copy what you need back to your SD card
or you can use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709398
but be careful which drive you format
My milestone 2 a953 gets the insufficient memory error even if storage shows 6.5 gb free. Using xplore app, I see there is nothing in internal sd I can not even copy files to it. I suspect I must have messed up the partitions somehow. Everything works except that I can not access or use the internal sd. I can only install up to 2gb of files before I get out of memory. Is there a way to reflash the partitions? Tia.
reflash your rom or system nand. that will rebuild the partition table. did you try to use your sd in a pc to check if it works? did you format your sd to check if thats the problem? did you try to mount your sd in your recovery, to check if that will work?

thanks for your reply. yes my external sd card works in all the suggestions you mentioned. my problem is with my internal sd. it does not show up in my explorer programs. i can only install apps up to 2 gb before it says i got insufficient memory. i could not even download anything to the internal sd. i can only use the external sd for it. when i remove my external sd card, the camera does not save pics to internal sd it says i need to put in an external sd card to take photos. all custom roms i flashed give me the same result. is there a specific sbf file i need to flash that will rebuild the partition table?

When you say "internal sd", do you mean the /data partition? Because the MS2 can't use the internal memory for user data like a regular (or an internal, for this matter) sd card.
In this case, it seems to me like a rom issue. Since the moto defy has only 2gb on it's /data partition, and most of the milestone 2's development derives from the defy, it would make sense. Which rom are you in currently?

Yes I mean the /data partition. I am currently using aokp. Does that mean I am unable to use the 6.5gb free space of my internal memory.

I would ask in the rom thread, maybe the dev can help you out.
Thank you.
Hello,
Will try to explain the situation to my best possible knowledge :
1. Was running Crash ROM 4.4.2 on Galaxy S4 i9500 , have got all the required apps installed and configured the way I wanted.
2. Running the stock kernel which comes with the Crash ROM installation.
3. Running Phillz touch recovery 6.3.xx
4. Have external micro sd card (16GB UHC SanDisk) . Crated 1st primary partition as FAT32 and 2nd primary as Ext3 for moving apps.
5. Did install Link2SD and correctly moved all apps linked to the 2nd external SD card partition.
6. Was able to connect a USB flash drive via female USB connector (host mode) and take titanium backup of all apps.
7. Everything mounted correctly and automatically, with correct permissions to read/write without me worrying or fixing any setting or changing anything.
Since I had everything in order, I thought of making a nandroid backup via Phillz recovery . The problem when I tried taking a nandroid baclup which presents custom backup option to either "/sdcard" or "/storage/sdcard1 (which i assume refers to external microSD card".
I tried taking a backup at both locations and was informed that I am short of space , the backup needed 4+GB whereas I had 2+GB on internal SD and 3+ GB on external microSD available.
So i thought to reboot and try making some space anywhere, thats when the nightmare started.
After reboot, now there was
1. A message for low space remaining
2. Google play store continually crashing and giving a "stopped" message.
I fixed the error no. 2 temporarily by uninstalling google play store (updates, cache and then the app itself).
However error no.1 persists, now when try running any app to see what and how much space is left in the internal and external SD cards, it seems that the internal SD card is not mounted somehow.
I have tried runnning ES explorer and it says no SD card found. Even though I can browse to the root partition. Then I tried Link2SD (which has an option of seeing storage info nicely) and I can that the bar for SD card is blank and all other places or mount points are mounted.
Even the apps residing on my external microSD 2nd partition are working fine, however I noticed that earlier the external microSD card, when seen from inside a booted and loaded ROM was mounted at the location " /storage/extSDcard , but now it is mounted at "/mnt/media_rw/extSDcard"
But my internal SD card is vanished, I cannot find any contents of the "internal SD" in any of the locations at /storage , /storage/emulated/legacy, /storage/emulated/0, /sdcard, /mnt/sdcard, /mnt/obb and possibly any other location I can think of.
I believe the mount points and logical links are different as seen by the phillz recovery (as there is no /storage/sdcard1 when seen from Es explorer) , and as seen when the ROM is fully booted and loaded, so when trying to take a nandroid backup via Phillz recovery, it might have messed up with the mount points and/or permissions.
I hate doing a complete re-flash of the ROM again and spending hours to get all the apps customized my desired way, with all widget settings.
I am not an expert or pro at android, hence I request your help to sort out the issue, and maybe send or guide me the default way the S4 handles mount points, so I can get back the SD card and also guide me how to make a the nandroid backup to avoid this fiasco again.
Thanks for reading.
