I have been trying to fix my nook by trying every restore method out there. so far all ive gotten is this same screen. Its a nook style notification that appears after the Read Forver Splash Screen and says install failed. It started after I was experimentting flashing some asus/acer roms (i was running cm9 at the time). The last one I tried worked then wouldnt boot. So I was thinking oh well I have a nandroid backup. It wouldnt show up in my directery of CMR. So I then tried flashing back to nook 1.4.1. That didnt work either and got me the INSTALL FAILED PLEASE REBOOT AND TRY AGAIN screen. So I contacted support and as usual they wanted me to bring the device in and replace it. I would rather not have to do that so I would appreciate it greatly if someone can help me! I would be forever in your debt.
*And yes I was an idiot for experimenting flashing those roms.
you can see here
nookdevs.com/Flash_back_to_clean_stock_ROM
I tried that and when I did it gave me this screen. I made some progress though using a different rom and now it boots into setup and gets to the very last part and says power of and try again.

Hello all,
I recently switched to the Fascinate from the HTC Incredible. So far I have rooted and installed cwm. I got the Super Clean ROM and one of jt's voodoo kernels installed. The kernel was the 12/14 version from Rom Manager. Everything was going fine and I had finally gotten everything how I wanted it. Then I though oh how bout a theme now.
Apparently that wasn't the right thing to do. I download the zip and boot into red recovery to install. I make a nandroid backup and continue to install the zip. Upon installing the theme I reboot the device. Then it just boots into stock recovery. So I think oh no that's not good. I apply update.zip to get into cwm, but then green cwm pops up intead of red. Also an error also pops up saying E: can't open /cache/recover/log. At first I didn't really think anything of it so I continue to try to restore my backup I just made. No luck. So I try to reinstall the kernel and ROM I had downloaded. No luck. All I get is errors and I dont really know how to get back into red cwm.
Now I am stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have been searching for solutions all day and I can't really find anything with my particular problem.
Which theme did you flash?
It was through rom manager. Something from blackhole. I don't remember exactly to be honest.
Ok I'm not sure if I made it better or worse. I took the sd card out and put it into my moto droid. I then created the disable_lagfix folder in the voodoo files. Then I put the card back in my phone. I tried flashing the stock DL09.tar through odin and now it is stuck in a loop. Samsung screen pops up then immediately runs a factory reset and does it all over again.
I'm completely new at this I just rooted my nook color today with Stable CM7. I wanted too overclock my nook so I flashed the kernel from this thread onto my device http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1064095 now whenever I go to turn on my device it's a blank blackish screen. How would I get it back to how it was before I installed this (I must've done something wrong, I'm an idiot). I just tried to install the stock kernel from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=908515 but same thing is happening for me.
This exact problem happened to me today. I found some link to a stock 1.1 Nook Color software or something like that, got the Nook Color back to essentially factory settings, and then repeated the whole process of installing CM7, with the added step of installing the kernel along with the ROM and gapps.
Could you link me to this stock software you found?

You used the wrong kernel. That one is apparently for rooted stock, not CM7.
Since your screen is black you might have to revert back to stock OS before reflashing CM7.
Can you boot into CWM from a SD? If so you can just try and redo the install procedure for CM7. This guide is recommended. (Also containing a link to a guide for reverting to stock, if needed...)

Alright I'm going to try to re-flash CM7. Thanks bro.
Well I reinstalled CM7 and when I pressed 'reboot system now' in CWM it just takes me back to CWM so I'm still lost. Going to try to install stock now.
_
Ok I installed stock now and it seems to be working, but It's just stuck at a screen saying 'contains Reader Mobile technology by Adobe Systems Incorporated.' and then the nook symbol in the center of the screen. It could just be loading but it's been 3-5 mins atleast so idk.
Yeah it's not going past that screen where it says 'contains Reader Mobile technology by Adobe Systems Incorporated.' not sure if I should try rebooting though. I tried going into recovery mode and get 'Install failed' so I tried installing again but same results.
I got my nook working with cm7 again, thank you for the help!
weird, my mom called me last night with the same issue. will see it today to see what it was.
Just to add on to the part where you said it took you back to CWM after reboot (for anyone who might come here for answers), you have to take the SD card out before you reboot.
Hi everyone! Please help me! I've spent most of the last 18 hours on this, rested, and have come back hoping to start today off positively.
I have a new "blue dot" nook with the new partitioning scheme. Not realizing that, I tried to install CM7 internally using a youtube video from huskermania (sorry, XDAforums will not let me link). All went fine, I assume, except for an error in Clockwork that read: Error: can't format /data" error. I believe, after researching, this is a result of the change in partitioning.
Frustrated that I had bricked my nook, and not really wanting to run an internal anyways so I can revert back to regular ROM if I want, I tried to unroot using directions from huskermania again. I really thought it had worked, but it is now stuck on the rainbow Nook Color screen, which will disappear and come back repeatedly.
Please help. My goal is to reinstall the original ROM, then try to install another using SD, but that's not my main priority right now.
HURRAY!!!!
Ok, success!!!! I cannot believe something finally worked. The 8 step reboot did not work, but using power, home, and +volume did.
I am saving the SD card I used to reboot this. Any thoughts on the best way to root a new "blue dot" nook using external so I don ever have this issue again? I know I need to change the partitioning, but I'm still not sure how, even after reading what Maurice Mongeon has to say in his post "how to repartition a blue dot nook color." Thoughts?
How exactly did you finally get it to work? I've done the exact same thing and I'm not sure what to do next. I have a refurbed NC that came with 1.2 installed and I rooted it with manualnooter and immediately flashed CM7.02 stable from CWM 3.0.2.8. It had all kinds of force close issues so I tried to restore to stock but keep getting stuck on the boot animation. I re-flashed CM7 and it still works but I still have all kinds of force close issues. When I try to format data in CWM it says can't format /data! I'm kind of at a loss right now...
UPDATE: Got it working. I had been using the wrong cwm...
i posted a while back in here, and the help i got didn't do much of anything. so now i'm desperate.
This isn't even my nook color, it's my dads and right now he's pissed because it's bricked more or less.
it boots, and gets stuck at the android screen. NOTHING was done to this other than installing CWM, CM7 and then it just sat there, no one used it for almost 3 months. Then when he tried to turn it on. stuck on android.
i tried holding down the power and N button, but it never boots into recovery.
So i had CM7 and CWM installed to the internal memory (because i couldn't get an sd to work properly)
now, i want to either wipe it and get it back to CM7 where i'll just reinstall everything, or totally wipe everything off it and get it back to stock.
aside from nexus devices, i'm a total n00b so please, i need easy to understand instructions here to get this thing working.

Go here Dummies Guide to 'My Nook Won't Boot' and read.
I searched everywhere, but can't find the same problem as mine. I am stuck in the CW recovery screen, after rebooting times after times.
I have been updating the CM9 nightly for a while, didn't have any problem. But when I tried to flash 02-17 nightly, I messed up and in the middle of the install (flash), I hold the power forcing to reboot. Now, it keeps going loop back to the CW recovery screen every time I tried to reboot.

I tried to reinstall the whole thing with the boot-able sdcard, but didn't work. please help! someone?
I tried to wipe, reformatted the system, data, cash, boot. Still stack at the cw recovery screen. Help...
I love my nook and have a road trip coming up. It will be nice to watch a kid movie to keep the kids entertained.
Had you flashed CmWR into eMMC?
Check the ROM information on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2.... this sounds a LOT like the problem 12paq had...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1495913
@Dizzyden, thanks for the tip.
I did repartition to 1g/5g awhile back. I am not sure where to start. 12paq tried many things, which one was the solution? Your rombackup.zip?
Many thanks....
@votinh
what do you mean? I am not using the N&O apps or OS. Pure CM9, therefore I guess it is flashed in eMMC. If not, please advice.

please advice.
I tried to adb shell the nook, but not devices found? please help.
Finally, with the help from the good people of this forum, I was able to restore back to B&N, and reflash CM9 from there.
Thank to you all.
Yesterday my nook color was working great. Today I turned the screen on and it hung. Now I'm having the above problem with it hanging at clockwork recovery.
I've got CM7.1 stable on there running from emmc.

Install the google drivers for adb... if you are in CWR adb is enabled... just have to get the drivers loaded on your computer.
try this:

It may be that your "boot to recovery" flag is set, and if so, it will always boot to that until it is cleared. When the cyanogenmod logo comes up hold the n button until the boot menu comes up. Then choose boot to emmc. If it works, go to ROM Manager and flash a new CWM Recovery to emmc.
Welcome to the nightmare I lived last week. Don't worry I woke up, was able to fully recover and forget the dream ever occurred.
I to tried to reformat to 1gb/5gb and ended up in the same boot loop.. If you are in the same spot I was, your boot partition got wiped out. And you may notice EMMC is gone.
After much searching I came across a file... Looking....Looking...Looking...
..........................Ah yes here it is. Here is what worked for me.
1. Boot to recovery (Should be easy at this point)
2. Format System, Data, and Cache.
3. Install the attached Zip file. (RecoveryFix.zip), this should recreate the Boot partition and fix the EMMC.
4. Reboot to recovery
5. Install favorite Rom or restore from backup.
6. Reboot to test.
Again this is what finally worked for me, and I went through a lot of trial and error to get there. I am guessing at your situation being exactly the same as mine.
PS. Ignore my since of humor if you need to.
