Get gmail back as a sync account option - Xperia Play General

So I froze gmail when it was acting up last week, but now when I defrost it it won't sync anymore. Under the accounts and sync, it has the option to sync the calendar and contacts, but not gmail.
I've tried uninstalling the app completely, re-adding it, changing it to a system app, etc, but nothing works. It says it's not synced properly, won't sync manually, and the sync option is not available anymore.
Anyone run into this issue? Nothing seems to work, and the only thing that might work (removing main Google account, re-adding it) would result in a factory reset, which is not ideal.

hmph. anyone?

Did you try to clear gmail cache?
Also, wipe cache and dalvik cache in recovery?

Wont let me sync contacts?

After wiping superD (syncing contacts worked before wiping) it doesn't let me sync contacts anymore. I check the box and when I come back it's unchecked. I If I can't sync contacts I'll lose my mind. I already tried resetting data for google apps. No dice.
Try the 3 wipes in Amon_RA's recovery; ext (if you have it), data, dalvic.
Reflash rom.
Just did every single thing you suggested and STILL no sync. What the hell I've been at this for 5 hours!
Try a different rom.
A logcat would be the next step if you want more help with this specific rom.
You can also try fixing permissions. That fixed the same problem for me.

CyanogenMod - reset data?

I wanted to change the primary google account because I am giving my eLocity A7 running Cyanogenmod7 to my son.
I tried resetting the data but that didn't do it. I've tried to do everything I can think of to unlink it from the google apps (Play, Gmail, Contacts, Calendar, etc.) but no matter what when I try to remove it it comes back and says it is needed for some apps, etc.
Anyone know how to get Cyanogen to reset the data so it clears the primary user account? [I'll post this in the Cyanogen forum, too. I just wasn't sure if this was an eLocity thing or a ROM thing.]
Found that rebooting into recovery and doing 'wipe data/factory reset' and 'wipe cache partition' did the job.

[SOLVED]Contact names not appearing in SMS, Call Log and so on!

Hello guys,
I don't know whats going on but suddenly my contact names are all gone.
Instead I only see the numbers when calling/getting a call, in Call Log, Stock SMS/Hangouts app and so on!
In Contacts the names are just fine... tried to clear data of the apps, resyncing Google Acc and what not...
I also had a backup to restore but it didnt help much... don't feel like doing a factory reset for now since I got so much stuff set up on my phone
And I can't remember anything I did to mess this up, it just happend
Any help appreciated
EDIT: Problem solved; Somehow if this strange stuff happens, go to recovery and clear cache & dalvik. Then reboot to system again, voila!
If this doesn't help, try to remove Google account and relog again after clearing cache and dalvik.
Other than re-sync your Google account, do you have try to delet the account, reboot and login back to your account ?
Edit, it can't be linked to your Google account.
What is your ROM ?
If you are on a custom ROM, try to wipe System (only system) and re-flash the ROM.

[Q] Can't access Google Calendar...

Hi all, i've searched far and wide to resolve this but nothing seems to work that i've tried. I cannot sign in to add my google calendar to my phone. I'm able to do everything else: get email, get to playstore, etc. As far as I know i do not have 2 step verification setup. I'm on 4.4.2, rooted. When i try to add my existing google account to the calendar i get "couldn't sign in. There was a problem communicating with the Google servers. Try again later."
I dont want to have to do a factory reset if possible.
Thanks all!

Clear cache and dalvik cache, and delete data from the calendar app. If that doesn't work, uninstall the app, repeat the clearing procedure, then reinstall. It should work:fingers-crossed:
@ldeveraux thanks for the reply. I tried what I think is the process above but still no luck. Maybe I'm not following what you suggested correctly. I went into the data/dalvik cache directory and wiped it out, cleared the calendar data. But not quite sure what you mean by "clear cache" in the very first part of what you wrote. Can you maybe give me a step by step with a little more info? Thanks again.

You're rooted and have safestrap installed?
1) Go to App info on the calendar app and Clear Data
2) reboot to safastrap.
3) go to wipe menu, advanced wipe, then check ONLY Cache and Dalvik Cache
4) wipe these 2 ONLY, then reboot.
If that doesn't work, uninstall the calendar app, reboot, reinstall the app from the play store.
I have no clue if this will work, but it's worth a shot

Hello again, I added back Safestrap and followed the above and still the same results. I appreciate the effort. Any other ideas out there?? Also I can't uninstall the calendar app. I guess its the stock one that came with the phone. I can freeze or uninstall it with TB but i don't see it available on the play store.

I'm getting the feeling you didn't do this as I explained. You shouldn't delete the files or folders in a file explorer app. It should be done like I explained in SS.
And you can uninstall google Calendar with any uninstaller app or TB, either way. the new app to download is here, so yes it exists:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.calendar&hl=en

[Q] Problem with email app and calendar email

Hi All,
I upgraded my galaxy s5 SM-900F to lollipop stock rom.
I have a problem with samsung email app:
- I configured my exchange account and I syncronized all the data (email, calendar, contacts...)
- When I try to open an email with calendar information (for example an invitation) the email doesn't open.
I tried to restore the phone, but I have the same problem.
I tried another email app (for example NINE) and works well.
How can I resolve this problem?
Thanks
Luca
Tried factory resetting the phone after the upgrade?
Clearing caches in recovery
Clearing data and cache for the broken apps?
