I have tried several different brands of 32gb class 10 micro sdcards on my DX and each time I get random reboots, programs unable to download or lost the sdcard mount. I tried different roms etc.
I thought I read at some point that the DX can go 32gb class 6 but not higher without issue. Is anyone able to confirm? My class 4 16gb works without issue but I would really like more space.
I have a class 2 seems to work just fine
Only one reply here so I thought I'd at least share the information I have found.
The higher the class the more power it uses. The droid x sdcard slot does not have enough power to run class 10 cards usually. I've heard they can do 2, 4 and sometimes a 6 but usually not a 10.
I've got a class 10 32 gb pny card in mine now. I turned the read/write speed down to 128 from 2048 and it seems to be working fine now. I don't know if turning the read/write speed down changes the amount of power it needs but maybe someone else could offer some other suggestions.
i think i read somewhere when i was wanting to get the max for mine and it said 32GB class 4 was the most it could handle. so i use a ADATA 32GB Class 4 in my phone and have no issues and have had it for quite some time, forget how long now.
I have a 32G class 4 in mine right now. No problems. SanDisk I believe.

It isn't the size of the card it's the class speed that's a problem. I've managed to get my class 10 working. I'm able to overclock the speed to 2048 again as well. Once in a while (maybe once a day tops) will become read only and I go into root explorer and re-mount the card as RW and it works fine again. I wish we had some other more permanent fix for it.
What is the Max overclock with a 32 gb class for micro sd?

Mine will go to 4096kb with rom toolbox pro. I run it at 2048kb however.
Class 4 works ok for me .
32gb class 4 SanDisk works great.

Hi Guys, I'm currently testing the MattC 1.5 build from a generic 4gb microSD card i had lying around and it works pretty well, but i was thinking of buying an 8gb Sandisk Mobile Ultra card to replace it. I would link to the car but i'm not allowed A quick search on google/ebay should bring up the card i want.
Do you think I would notice an improvement in speed with android running from the card?
kingston 8gb sdhc card Chinese bootleg
If your current card is a class 2 and the 8 gb is a class 4 or higher than yes, tou would notice a difference.

I use Sandisk 16gb sdhc and no problems with running android-of course only proper wm rom.... Not sure which class is the card
my current card is a Class 2 4gb Sandisk, for £17 i might just get the new card and see how it goes. Would you expect an increase in the score on the Quadrant benchmarks?
Sandisk mobile ultra sdhc 4 gb class 6
are these cards definitely class 6 as i have seen various sites saying they are only class 2 but much faster than the class 2 minimums?
I use a Sandisk ultra sdhc 8gb class 6......working great
16gb stock card that came with my tmous hd2, so im guessing its a class2 but everything runs smoothly tho.

Kingstone 4GB SDHC Class 4, working perfectly, but I'm looking for a class 6 card to see the difference in speed

Hi,
Well, I use since last week a SanDisk 32 microSDhc class 2. Pretty fast in data transfer.
Read somewhere that the class 2 of this 32 GB edition can be compared to class 6 of older micro SD cards.
Had the standard 2gb microSD before, which was sold with the HD2.
Have no issues of speed with SanDisk 32 microSDhc class 2, when it comes to running Android and transfer data.
Recommend it!
generic 16gb class 2
Adata 8g class 6 lighting fast cost $15 running mattc froyo 1.5 fullram
Apacer 16GB SDhc class 4
Working perfectly..
Download SD Card Speed Tester from Market
and test your real speed. Run it three times on each card.
I have Class 2's that are 2's. I have the original 16 gb Class 2 that rates at six and a class 4 Sandisk that rates at a 9. You never know till you test it. Also have a Class 6 that rates at a 9.
8 gig kingstone class 4.
i got a 4 gig class 6 micro sdhc, but i can't notice a difference in speed big enough to compensate the loss of 4 gigs (lots of songs stored).

Might sound like a strange question, but what would you suggest getting for most stable Android run. I've had a SAN DISK 16GB but it would always get corrupt and formatting (tried using SD Formatter/windows tools/phone) would only fix the problem for short time.
So which of the following in your opinion is the most reliable choice:
1. SAN DISK
2. PATRIOT
3. Kingston
4. ADATA
5. Transcend
6. Lexar
7. SONY
Also, what class (2,4,6 would be nice if someone could explain whats best and generally what it means). As well as capacity (whether it affects reliability)
No one buy the kingston class 4 4gb card, does not work well at all! I trashed it lol
i got a Class 10 Patriot card, works well, really well
Transcends 8gb Class 6!
Never had a problem with it
Hi, I am using transcend 8Gb card. I dont find any problem till now.
RiData 16GB Class 6
Been using it for 2 weeks. No issues.
Write & Read transfers are averaging 9mbs when transfering backups to and from.
Kingmax 8Gb Class 6, not bad
Don't buy transcend 8gb class 6 card in any situation, it has really bad power drainage problem in every build, after I swapped it with my friends verbatim class 4 8gb I have top 1 % per hour drain in standby, believe me.
Stock 16 gb san disk I got when I purchased my hd2, runs amazingly

Any way to check faulty micro sd?
Thanks everyone for the input, seems like I've either got a faulty SanDisk card or doing something wrong here. Are there any tools to test whether or not my 16Gb SanDisk micro sd is faulty or possibly corrupt... By the way, I got it off ebay for $20... seems fishy, although it came in original packagin brand new.
...
German TakeMS 4GB Class6, works like a charm...
Transcend 16gb class 6 runs Android with no hiccups at all and the transfer rate is blazing fast
Samsung 4Go Class 4, low battery drainage, performs like a class 6 card. Original style (grey coloured).
Battery consumption
Battery consumption on Transcend sucks if you want long battery life use sandisk or best by my tests 8gb class 4 Kingston.
i have 4 different sd cards kingston 4 gig class 2, 2 sandisk 4 gig , and a class 6 transcend 8 gig...and i always get better results with the stock card

Sd card don't have jack sh*$ to do with battery drain. As far as cards go, it don't matter. Just pick one. There all the same regardless if someone says this one is faster because it's a class 6, or 8. I have a class 2,4, and 8. No difference what so ever. Even though its written on the class 8 at a higher speed.
Any idea on why sometimes I find non-removable random symbol files on my SD? Does this indicate corruption?
German TakeMS 8gb class 6 extreme fast and stable.
beware buying microsd on ebay
chk this site before buying http://sosfakeflash.wordpress.com/
Hi,
Does anybody here knows which class is the 8gb micro sd card included in the Desire Z??
Not 100% positive on this but I remember reading somewhere that it was only a class 2 card... =/
I got a class 4 card, but seems to be a bit of lottery.
I've read that some got class 2.
Mine was 8 GB, Samsung, Class 2. And it got replaced right away with a 16 GB Class 10.

Is there any point in a class 10?
Can the Z handle it? I know the Pulse has a limit of class 6...
Also - nice card.
Damm I hope I get a class 4 but how can you know which class is the sd card? Does it say on it?
Yes typically the card will have the class printed on it.
Remember though the class is a measurement of the MINIMUM speed the card is capable of handling.
Ex: Class 4 can write at a MINIMUM of 4 mb/s. I have a kingston class 4, 8GB card that I have tested thourougly and it regularly writes at 8+ mb/s.
Not sure where you draw the line on what is overkill for an Android Device. I know on other devices, I.E. SLR Cameras, a slow/bad card can have a big impact on the way things run...
Came with a Samsung Class 2 8GB for me, replaced it with an San Disk 16GB Class 4.

Yes, it can handle the Class 10. The only real benefit is when doing 720p video recording. Most of the time, anything over a Class 4 will feel the same in day-to-day usage (other than video recording).
The other advantage is that if you transfer files to the phone, it'll be somewhat faster.
Also, the card you get with the DZ, it show the class right on the card itself. In my case it was a Samsung 8GB MicroSDHC Class 2. Replaced with a Kingston 16GB MicroSDHC Class 10. <3
Here's a somewhat subjective read on the topic: http://pocketnow.com/android/does-using-a-faster-sdcard-make-your-phone-faster
I don't know if you can see the difference between Class 2 and Class 10 on the Desire Z. Maybe running some apps that install on SD Card is a little faster, also saving photos, browsing through MP3s, playing videos, etc.
When moving large quantities of data (bigger files), there is an increase in speed, e.g. 18 MB/s (Class 10) vs. 10-12 MB/s (Class 2). I expect the differencte to be the same with small files, but I haven't tested yet. Maybe it's not worth the double price tag, but I needed 16 GB and chose to go with the fastest option available...
Mine and everyone else I know with a Z or G2 came with a samsung 8gb class 2 card.
I have now put my 8Gb class 4 in, but I might look to get a bigger class 4 or 6 card soon.

HOLD FIRE on mymemory. This new card is giving read speeds of 10 mbs but write speed only 1 mbs!!!!!!!!!! I need to test in my Hero to see what I get.
Can anyone recommend good speed test apps, for either android or to run off my Windows lappy?
I got a SanDisk Class 4, 8GB card with mine (NAM Unbranded/Unlocked Version)
Tested it and it writes at 5.21 mb/s and reads at 14.8 mb/s
I recently picked up a 32gig MSD for my Evo as I kept running out of room on the 16gig card. I went from a 16GB Class 6 to the latest Class1 or 2 that SanDisk has. My phone takes around 3 minutes to boot now at best. Looking at gallery or anything like that is SLOwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. If you are thinking about and have lots of pics/videos and use App2SD like I do, you will only be disappointed in the end results with the Sandisk card. Just sharing so others can save and wait for a real card.

I have 11 gigs left at current and the only change I did was this card and I can say that performance of the gallery and boot time has severly suffered from what my old card gave me.
the lower the class number on the card, the slower the transfer rate. So your 16gb class 6 may have less room, but its way faster than a 32gb class 2. Dont know if this helps or not.

+1. I switched from the Class 2 8GB card that came with it to a Class 10 16GB card and the differences are staggering. I never benchmarked my class 2, but I get around 17.8 Mbps read/write on this one. On my 8GB card it would take about nine minutes to transfer a movie from my phone, now it takes under a minute.
that isnt always true that cards are just slower. The class system is a min spec system meaning they have to atleast hit this to make it they can be well over it depending on the chip used
Most people benchmarking the San disk 32gb cards are finding them to perform closer to class 4 then the indicated class 2. Check out the thread in the accessory section. Perhapse your card is defective.
Sandisk. The Yugo/Walmart of the mem card world. None of the pro photographers that shoot digital that I've met will even touch them.

Thanks bdw. I purchased it and it's working fine. Write speed is 9mbps and reading at 11-13mbps

Class 6 gives good performance. Having no problems since 3 months.
I use 32GB class 10 Lexar.
No problem at all.
I've been using a class 10 16GB TOPRAM card for almost a year, with no problems.
I use a Kingston Class10 16GB since a week ago and it's working fine so far. 9.1MB/s write and 19MB/s read on 2.3.6

@darshan - bro, what is you say ? how are you finding your class 6 card in defy? how about 720p playback and HD gaming?? Is there any issue with day to day usage, like with camera app and something? Does it hang? or does it goes in to READ ONLY by any chance??
Btw, Im running on stock 2.2.2 without root.
Thanking you in advance
