I'd go with Aurora now, while both are in full development, Aurora has made some more progress since it's been out longer, I'd wait for the MIUI V4 project to be improved for the U8800, it's still in the RC phase.

I agree with Lollipopjob.
Aurora has gotten really smooth and reliable. It might not be the most "flashy" rom out of the box, but as off today I'm pretty sure you will have a better overall experience with Aurora.
Myself is a big Miui fan, but I am going to wait untill it gets out of the early "test stages" and (hopefully) becomes an awesome, reliable system aswell.
I'm not saying Miui 4 is unstable, as I haven't tried it myself, but I relie on my phone working on a everyday basis and aim for the more tested releases
Good luck!

Tried Geno's MIUI V4 (in general forum) and it's great. No issues for now. Changed to MIUI V4 now from Aurora (and I was on Aurora from the first release).

A small update.
I decided to try the Miui 4 ICS rom, and i had loads of issues from the start.
Laggy/choppy animations and applications, frequent force-closes and networks disconnecting.
As of Aurora is definetly a better choice for day-to-day usage if you ask me.
Just wanted to share my experience

Yes its true...

I believe the MIUI is not as stable as Aurora yet. Aside from that it's all up to personal preference. The MIUI interface is very different from other android roms/launchers though.
Slightly offtopic but when I tried MIUI I spent about 10 minutes looking for the app drawer. Google straightened me out on that one.
That was quite a mindset-shift from any other android interface I have used before. MIUI looks beautiful though.

I agree that MIUI has a much better layout and setup than any other rom, but if i decided to use Miui on my phone as of today I would go for the miui.us gingerbread(?) rom.
It's super stable and smooth, but no ICS obviously.

ICS lags, it isn't stable.
And my question:
I have this now "[ROM] Aurora ICS 4.0.4", can I install this "Miui 2.4.13 V3 [2.6.35]" over it or should I install official gingerbread rom first?

Sorry the way I speak, not in any way want to be rude, but I can not understand why people do not read until the end before asking questions ...
Anyway, here's the answer drawn in the first topic of this ROM:
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Requirements:
1. 2.6.35 based ROM installed [either official or .35 based custom ROM, 518 works fine and you won't lose the pink screen]
2. CWM 5.5.0.4
3. If you are planning to use English UI only, install the US version. There are no magical differences between the ROMS, other than the obvious.
Installation:[ [this ROM is for U8800 only, NOT U8800 PRO or -51]
-> boot to CWM -> factory reset* -> wipe cache partion & wipe dalvik cache -> format system directory* -> install the ROM from sdcard
*you can skip the factory reset if you’re updating from Miui .35 (saves you time
from re-installing all programs etc.), formatting system directory may not be
necessary either, but…if you run into trouble, I suggest you to start from a
clean sheet and do these things as well.

Yes, I read that but not sure can I do it, also tried to find information. So I take a risk and try and it works perfect, which means my question was necessary.
But thanks for your efforts.

Huawei U8800 - Help w/ Oxygen Rom

Hey!
This is my first post here. I'm kinda new to this ( started 2 days ago ), when I came across Oxygen ROM for u8800 and gave it a try.
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1149150
I have CWM v5.5.0.4 and installed a .zip from sdcard, the latest one... I also wiped data, cache partition and dalvik cache, but when I rebooted the phone, it just stayed on Huawei screen ( a red flower with HUAWEI written under it ) and kept rebooting on like 5 minutes... I restored the previous rom using CWM and tried again with no success...
Can somebody help me with this? Is this happening because the ROM is not being maintained anymore, or is there any other problem? I also installed AURORA ICS 4.0.3 successfully with the same method I used with OXYGEN
I would be grateful for any help
Best Regards, Erik
if you have the official gingerbread update from huawei installed, oxygen wont work. It uses an older kernel which is based on the froyo default rom.

if you really want to use oxygen you can downgrade and re root your device/install a froyo compatible recovery and use oxygen: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369296
that has the down grade instructions
and here is a link to the recovery to install any froyo kernel based rom:http://dl.xda-developers.com/attach...159a3/7/8/7/4/1/2/recovery5.0.2.7_en_sys1.zip
i would personally recommend ICS Aurora for daily use its made by dzo who made oxygen port and it gets an update multiple times a week even though its perfectly stable at the moment it just keeps getting better but oxygen is a 100% stable and clean rom thats been around for a while now if thats what you are looking for

If it is just the launcher, just change it for one on the market. I am not sure how much difference there will be between official gingerbread and oxygen gingerbread. Try Aurora as suggested above or sbasil miui.us for something really different.
im on oxygen for about 6 months (is oxygen that "old" already?), and am very satisfied with it..
plan to change to aurora soon as these 2 roms are both from dzo, who is a "legend" as referred from xda's editors..
anyway i would recommend any rom from dzo as it seems that his main focus is on rom stability and cleanliness, which is what matters to daily users imho..

I wouldn't bet on the stability of Aurora ICS, at least in it's current state.
It's more up to date, yes, I agree with that but the deal is that you have to decide between the stability and feature set.

I use ICS now. But VPN does not working. I am onlyone who needs VPN?
SIP VoIP (I need it) is very problematic in Aurora. Integrated VoIP in ICS does not work. CSipSimple and Siproid does not work. All registers. All make/receive calls. But voice is not transfered. After few seconds CSipSimple transfer huge amount of data via WiFI (and voice not transfered)
Only Linphone Video works. But sound quality is very bad. I test Aurora 1.12a, 2.02, 2.04. Always make full wipe (factory reset, dalvik cache, ...).
I use Linphone Video now but the quality is terrible.
Skype works in Aurora perfectly but I need SIP.
All tested SIP programs works in official ROM but not in Aurora. I am the only one who needs make VoIP (SIP) over WiFi? Aurora is very good ROM. Thanks DZO. But official rom seems better if you need SIP calls.
I have tried to install Gingerbread Rom with no luck. Aurora doesn't work as it should since I didn't have gingerbread. So I think I'd just go for another customrom on that U8800. Any tips for a stable Rom that works without Gingerbread needed?

AOKP in my Nexus One

hello xda crew,
I am posting here because despite I joined xda almost 2 years ago, I didnt post too much hehe and i cannot post in devs forums yet (less than 10 posts users cannot)
Ive installed AOKP rom a while ago (v15.5) and I am very happy with it. I am using it as my regular phone.
Now Im just about to install the last version (v20.5). with less bugs, and more functinal things!
thx @zyr3x and Kang Team for this awesome rom, nice job!
if I attain 10 posts without spamin, I will inform you with the issues and all that.
just one question. is it recomendable to do wipe when updatin the rom¿ i mean, i was going to install aokp_v20.5 over aokp_v15.5 without wiping data and/or cache. do I need to do the wipe¿
i havent played with the AOKP rom yet but usually as with all roms, when flashing between versions of the same base, a quick cache+dalvik cache wipe is okay.
no need to full wipe/factory reset UNLESS the dev says otherwise

I recommend you to try AOKP rom, the best ics rom for nexus one atm.
before upgrading to ICS i was using CM7 (nightly version) but now i dont regret the change. having ICS in the nexus one is great, and works fine, with only a couple of minor bugs.
You should try Lewa OS and you may change your mind
i am currently use the same AOKP rom latest version i love the way it runs to mate as for lewa os it is not secure when running it in my zte blade we had to modify the run since it sent details and information to the chinese developers be careful of that rom unless the porter for the nexus one version has removed the same functionality found in the zte blade one mate

Yes, I flash the Hboot for JB that TexasIce gives in his post of Evervolv JB.
So video recording doesn't work in ICS too thanks for the answer
I see in your sign that your using AOKP in your Nexus One. Do you experience some lag? For example, I get lag in Evervolv JB when I use some apps like Whatsapp. Got some of those in AOKP?
I take some build.prop tweak on nightly JB and it works smoother now. Enabling vsync seems the key.

HTC Desire Fanboy wants to boost girlfriends Galaxy S - need advices

Hi guys,
i know that Thread is kind of lazy but my girlfriends Galaxy S1 (Stock 2.3 ROM not rooted) is soooo damn slow and i wanna help her with a new ROM,Kernel etc...
Myself is using the newest ICS Release on my HTC Desire but i readed and informed me everyday for best performance.
At the HTC Desire topic im very well-informed but the Samsung topic is extremly new for me...so only thing i did : Stock 2.2 to Stock 2.3
(Kies is bull**** xD ?!?!)
I would like to root my girlfriends Droid but i dont know which ROM or Kernel should i chose...there are sooo much.
Because of that...guys: Whats the best, smoothest and especially stable ROM (especially for girls^^) whatever Gingerbread or ICS...i think JB is not smooth enough like on Desire :/ (too much issues etc)
It would be pretty if someone could help me so that i can boost the performance of my girlfriends phone on the best and stable way.
THX
Try stock android 2.3.6 ZSJW4. Root it with CF Root and she will be fine. Very stable and smooth with no bugs. Yoy can find it on Sammobile.com
For Gingerbread I recommend the Samsung stock roms, which are pretty stable.
See this thread for official GB firmwares from Samsung (includes also a guide for flashing stock roms with Odin).
See this thread for CF-Root, a basic rooted kernel for stock GB roms (it's the stock kernel with added su binary, SuperUser app and CWM recovery).
See this thread for Semaphore, an extended kernel for stock GB roms.
I only tried Cyanogenmod 9 as ICS rom so I can't recommend any other ICS rom, but CM9 is pretty stable (I'm using RC2 atm and have no big problems). To install CM9 or other ICS based roms, you need to install CF-Root or Semaphore first (through Odin), to get CWM recovery.
thx guys, but
@ c_codrut: i don't think that TouchWiz is a good choice...because its still boring and slowly
@stbenz: thanks for your informations, i will look at this. But im intrest about the CM9 Stuff on Galaxy S
I also use CM9 for my desire but its not officially supported...its an ROM from xda (DK-Zero) and its know very stable and without any big issues.
But i used it since 2012/04..and at this time it was very buggy...no mic no camera etc...for me no problem but for her xD not acceptable^^
But my problem is that myself can fix problems on my device and can live with it...but i dont want that my girlfriend need help with every update or something else...she should use the ROM as an almost stable and for daily-usable ROM.
I know that i should or could test it but its not my device and i couldn't walk all day with it^^ (hope you understand this )
It would be cool, if see could use ICS by CM or what about the AOKP ? (i missed that for my desire :/)
So best thing would be a almost stable ICS ROM....i/she dont need that Samsung UI i guess.
CM9 RC2 (from 2012-07-19) or the Nightly (from 2012-08-07) ?
or what about AOKP (Milestone 6) ?

With cm9 all hardware works except for fm radio. Some are reporting, that the latest nightlies are more stable than rc2, but thats most likely because bugfixes for bugs reported for rc2 are already merged to the nightlies. But I also think we are not far away from the next rc/final version, so if you don't want to flash too often, you could wait for the next rc/final version.

ok, guys THX!!!
i will start with CM9RC2...was my favorite anyway
And when i update the ROM ...does it works like on Desire (wiping cache and dalvik) installing newest RC or Nightly?
Or the Kernels needs often to be update?
Hey, I am using this ROM and I can only say it is extremely good, a real revelation after using Froyo and GB. I had some issues with CM9 but it was also great and superfast. i9000 with ICS is like a completely new phone!
Hope this helped a bit.

The kernel gets flashed every time you install an update, so if you have an alternative kernel, you have to flash it again every time you flash a new CM9 version. You also have to flash gapps after every update.

Hi guys...im back and finished my work
I rooted with Odin and hopefully with the correct Kernel. After that i made a NAND-Backup.
So i wiped everything and flashed CM9 RC2 and the Gapps...and everything was smooth and cool
But so far i didn't flashed the devilkernel yet...the CM-kernel seems ok.
So my question whats the Pros and Cons of the Devil-kernel compared to the CM-builtin-Kernel?
I think batterylife is important than extreme power and high batteryloss, i guess for her ^^
BTW: To make CM more female, i installed a pink theme and a pink clock widget for my girlfriend, she's happy now
And again guys...THANKS...it was very interesting to flash and root an other device (brand) and i saw the differences, Pros and Cons!
In my opinion Rooting on desire was easier and not needed as much informations and readings ^^
I hope she get no big problems but i not averse to work on her device too^^
And im jealous that her ROM runs so stable...on Desire its also stable but the Videocam doesnt work ...damn :crying: (very choppy)
But there isn't a official CMsupport or 100% HWA
i don't know about the devils kernel, but i can definitely recommend the ICS semaphore kernel http://forum. xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1468795
just remove the spaces.
using the smartassV2 govenor, etc, my phone's battery lasts about a day longer than it did on the cm9 kernel
Ok, i also use this governor on my desire and an extra sleep state governor
...the smartass v2 rocks !!!!

You just flash the stable over RC2, flash the google apps, and that's it. No need to wipe anything. If in doubt, make a nandroid backup before flashing.

[Q] best roms

hi,
i want to ask who is the more stable roms for Ideos X5? (not the pro)
i want a stable and fast rom, and if it is possible not take all the battery.
for fast rom it is better to stay in android 2.3? or i can have and good results with 4.x?
the 4.x roms need more memory from the 2.3?
Thanks for any answer

Speed is better on Aurora that's for sure and about battery i don't remember well i don't have CM7 and haven't tried anymore more than 1 year but drains a little more if you use 2G and turn off Wifi and then you can save battery.
If must have GB on your phone after that you should install any other custom roms since from CM7 to CM 10 and of course Aurora too. Remember when update from different kernel please format system, data and cache with together all 3 wipes.

If you have ezet's Rom then you are at .32 kernel and need to install official Rom first. Just read my previous post. If not then sorry..
