Its good and bad. Its good because it frees up alot of memory but its bad because it slows your phone down because the dalvik cache just keeps building up and up and you need a high class sdcard or it will slow your phone down more also. And when you wipe dalvik cache in recovery it will wipe dalvik cache on internal, sdext, ect
Sorry I don't know other than it gives you more internal memory. Maybe ask over on the androidforum.

Actually, that could be why the few times I ran 3.5 ROMS, the lag was almost unbearable at times

Go to a deodexed sense rom and move dalvik cache to sd then don't reboot your phone at ALL just setup your usual stuff and you'll notice the tremendous lag after a couple of hours

Do it only if you have a class 4 card. I currently moved it to sd on swag rom x and everything is running well.

You need like a class 6 or something, I have a class 4 32GB but it gets slow so I put it on the internal memory and I wipe it occassionally.
im gonna have to throw my 2 cents in as DONT move it unless you seem to be running out of internal space... cant say i notice much lag with aosp but i have noticed with sense 3.5 roms... and as a side not its with a 32gb class 10 pny card sooo /twocents

During the time I was using Synergy I initially ran Dalvik from the SD card and had persistent lag. Moving it back to internal solved this problem. You can get an app called Apps2SDGUI which is a easy graphical interface that allows you to very easily control Dark Tremors Apps to SD (obviously you are partitioned right?) so you can experiment. I have a lot of apps but still maintain between 180 - 160 mb of free internal space which for me is the sweet spot running Dalvik from internal.

and where exactly are they on the SD card? I flashed back to stock yesterday and decided to backup my SD card after. If if I go into the gallery on the phone I can see all of my photos, but when I search on the SD card while the Epic is mounted, I can't find them.

Yep. It's the default folder.
I wish theyd let us have the option to save to phone though :/ 300mB and i cant use it when i dont got my sdcard ready?

Most people leave the SD card in at all times so that it is always ready.
Also, 300 MB of internal memory really doesn't go all that far, especially if you're storing pictures in it.

Yeah. Most people leave it in. Not all. Somtimes, I wanna watch a movie in my sdcard on my macbook and fall asleep with it in there. The nex day I go out and wann take a quick pic of a squished squirrel or something and I can't because I forgot my sdcard.
But wait! My pone has 300MB of storage! I should still be able to take this one pic! Oh wait, I can't becaue the camera closes itself with no sd.
I'm a believer in choices. They shoulnt assume people will have sd cards in at all times

Almost everything is perfect on stock ICS, except the very low speed of SD card, it is about 1MB/s, while the original is 3~4MB/s. what a big difference!
i suffers when transfering big files like movie, game, etc.
It is unbelievable google release the ICS OTA on nexus s with the big bug.
Hope google update it soon, btw, Cound anyboady tell me how to send feedback to google team about the nexus experience? i found no option in my phone.
Try the SD speed increase app and see if that helps.

Hey guys i recently installed the PARANOIDANDROID v1.0 for SD haret, as the days went by i loved having the new android on my phone, everything works perfectly the only problem i found was that it was very laggy when opening and closing apps, even small apps such as dialpad, i thought it was that i had bad memory, so i did abit of research and found 1post, hidden in all the millions of posts so i thought id just bring it to light as it worked for me but took me hours of searching so im just being helpful here by posting this, might not work for you but give it a shot anyway.
So if your Paranoidandroid is lagging try....Menu> settings> developer options> Background process limit..and set that...At most 2 processes
Now my phone works so fine, its a whole new experience from when i first installed it, if it doesnt work you can always turn it back
Hope this helped just trying to be helpful to those who are experiencing lagging and aint as up to speed with all this like most people here, please click thanks if it helped
Link to where i got it from and thanks to dimdimdim

Only remember it does not get saved after reboot (why?) So have to set again each time

It's normal for SD roms to stutter or lag especially if you are using an old/low cost class 2,4 or 10 sd card.

Actually class 2 cards are supposedly the best for SD Android. And when using Paranoidandroid on my class 2 SD card it was fairly good actually.

The great thing about it is that I can install all my purchased games now and not have to worry about "play, uninstall, reinstall new game, uninstall".
i did the sd card theory with my nook color. i did 10.0, 10.2, 7.2. they all work great, wifi works, touch works, etc... but am i supposed to actually install it to the internal storage and wipe/format the nook itself or just run it off the sd card? if i am supposed to install it to the internal storage and wipe my nook then how do i do it?
thanks in advance...

That solely depends on what you *want* to do. You have the *option* of installing it to internal storage (emmc), but you do not *have* to do it that way. You can have a dual boot system with stock internally and CM on sdcard. Of course, you can also do the reverse.

I don't know what you mean by "supposed to". There is no "supposed to". It is your choice. Run it on SD like you said you did or choose to put it on internal memory. It works either way.

Only if you have a bad SD. If you have a good SD you will notice no real improvement going to internal.

I am stopping off at Radio Shack (strangely one of the cheapest local sources and generally have real SanDisk) on my way home. Not sure if my Kingston one is giving me issues.
I got a sandisk and now it is working much better.

As others have said, there's no speed difference and the choice is yours. I chose to move from SD to EMMC (internal) because I wanted to free up the SD for extra storage capability, so moving the operating system to the internal was my reason..

Since I mainly use the SD card to store large books and encyclopedias, I have a class 4 SD. There was definitely a noticeable speed movement moving to boot from SD to EMMC.
Then again, most new SD cards are class 10.
