MedroidModHWA discussion thread! - Nexus One General

Hello!
i like this rome! Now it is public! (At the moment!)
This ROM have a few interesting features (You should try it yourself)
In my opinion it is the best ICS ROM at the moment!!!
What is in your opinion? Post your preferences here please!
Say it here:
What is possible and what is not:
1. Don’t use the standard launcher; it goes crazy after you take a photo (ME 1.44)
2. ScreenStates: It work really, You should put SMARTASSV2 to both options, then it works fine
3. Nova launcher is the best
4. IA2Sd works after 2nnd reboot fine
It is crazy what it brings and what do you think?

I flashed the MedroidModHWA-1.4.4 image a few hour ago, everything is fine but there is no option to power off or reboot N1 after long pressing power button, do you have any idea how to power off N1 with MedroidModHWA-1.4.4 rom??

tried the rom yesterday it was a nice experience cheers to the developer

I had several rebots today, and a few yesterday. Then i had some problems with recognition of the sim. Not nice!

Ive had some problems as well with random reboots, I think I have everything settled for now, no reboots for a little while. This is one of my favorite roms because of the speed and the customization capabilities it has, Ive tried BMC as well but it just dosn't have the customization as this one which I like.

Wake up workaround?

I think that the wake up issue is caused by a conflict between windows and acer relating to the < End Key > fuction.
I've tried this for a day and it works for me:
Of corse uncheck < Auto adjust backlight by battery level>!
preferences-phone-check wake up from sleep
preferences-End Key-choose lock and suspend
Settings-System-backlight-battery tab-check both boxes
Settings-System-backlight-external power tab-check both boxes
Settings-personal-buttons-button 2 choose <Today >from menu on the bootom
TO WAKE UP PHONE: PRESS ( < ) button at bottom of device.
This W\Official acer ROM( don't know about settings in cooked ROM)
Also:< SRS-WOW HD> works beatifully on stock Rom
1.Installed SDK certs., .net config.3.5 Then:
2.Install SRS-WOW HD to device ( afer installation finishes *SOFT RESET*)
3.after reset go to settings-Sys-srs wow icon open and make personal adjustments.
Hoping this works for all!
Nice to see that other people also trying to get this working. But do you really think that you need to open new Thread?
Besides, if you use 3.003c folder for flashing custom ROM - my Custom ROM and Arto´s are already using that - there is no need to turn the Automatic Backlight off.
If you are using S2U2, just use the Power button to send your device into stand-by mode. Don´t send it to sleep mode with holding end call button!
You are not gonna have wake up issues more.

That's not what I said,
I said " uncheck auto backlight by BATTERY LEVEL"
anyway, I have used Arto's rom and there were no issues.
I tried to flash yours but couldn't, so I went back to stock with intentions of
tryng your module rom 'cause I think that it's a brilliant idea!
in the end I stayed stock and added features that I liked.
I applaud both you and Arto for your work!!
I started a new thread because as I also said for " Official acer ROM " users
I also used to be an avid S2U2 user on my F900 and don't use it on my S200 because there seems to be constant conflict between s2u2 and acer or windows. So I used the s2u2 setting "don't suspend phone"
I have tested this method(1st post) of waking the phone from standby even after long pressing end key and phone always woke up to home screen. ( even after several hours of sleep/standby)
I only wanted to give my method of simply waking the phone no matter how it was put into standby. If it works for someone else as well I'm happy
I would still like to use your titanium theme is it possible?
acer900,
Thanks for a method, I will try)

OODie ROM Nexus S Torch button issue

Just upgraded to Oodie MIUI 2.2.24 ROM.
Some of the issues i encountered, which are not mentioned in the main topic:
1. Torch button in toggles don't work.
2. Access Control in toggles causes FC
3. No 2x1 clock (Had in the earlier version)
4. Maps pop up again after reboot even if disabled earlier.
5. In the earlier version, sometimes the screen went off and clicking the power button didn't help. Had to opt for Volume Waker then. After the update, encountered it only once.
The ROM is super smooth, as said elegant and with lot of visual customizations which i like. So far the best I had.
These problems don't matter much but just thought of giving a feedback.
Can't post in the main topic, no thanks so far. WOuld be happy to get some
Thanks Oodie.

[Q] ICS and Power Button options

Hello,
I've noticed in several ICS roms that I have tried for the Fire that there are options to extend the power button menu with options for Home, back, etc. Is this a customization to the rom, is is part of a launcher, or is it an app? If it's one of the last two, could someone please tell me which? Thank you.
I am using this ICS ROM and I think it is part of ICS itself.
If you are using something like CM7 then maybe it's an app.

[ROM] [SGH-I757M only] Paranoid Android

Paranoid Android (Jelly Bean) for Samsung Galaxy S2 HD LTE (SGH-I757M)
This is a fairly new ROM built from the Paranoid Android 2+ source code.
I do not develop this ROM nor do I provide support for it.
I felt that we needed a new topic to talk about this PAndroid ROM as the CM10 topic was getting pretty hefty and unorganized.
Since the development for this ROM is new, don't expect it to be as stable as CM9. Check "What Doesn't Work" for a list of what's broken!
If you still don't know what ClockWorkMod Recovery or Paranoid Android is, Google it or search XDA.
WARNING! Do not flash this to a different device model from the one it's meant for. It will not work with the other Galaxy S2 iterations, so don't try it with the Bell Galaxy S2 I9100M (non-HD). DO NOT flash it on the Asian variant of the GS2 HD (SHV-E120) either, as it uses slightly different internal hardware - the ROM will be unstable and the phone component will not work. If you are sure you have the CANADIAN Bell Galaxy S2 HD LTE (SGH-I757M), you may continue.

Flashing The Recovery Menu
Do you have the stock recovery menu installed? If so, move to step two. If you already have CWM installed, move to "Flashing Paranoid Android"
Download Odin from here: bit.ly/WXpnCN AND download CWM Recovery here: bit.ly/WXpfDA
Start your SGH-i757m in 'Download Mode' (Shut off device. Hold the Volume Down key while powering the phone on. The device will vibrate and soon you will see a Warning screen, where you will need to press Volume Up to enter Download mode.)
While in Download Mode, start up Odin and connect your phone to the PC via USB. You should see a status message in Odin saying your device was "added".
In Odin, press the 'BOOTLOADER' button and select the CWM TAR file you downloaded from step two.
In Odin, press Start. Once Odin is done it should say "PASS". If it doesn't finish or is stuck, try re-downloading the recovery file.
Your device will reboot.
Flashing Paranoid Android
Download the latest version of PAndroid from Socim's Dev-Host: bit.ly/WK042w AND G-Apps from: bit.ly/117KEsZ
Place both *.zip files on your Micro-SD card. Do NOT Extract Them!
Start your phone into CWM Recovery mode. To accomplish this hold down the Power Button to turn the phone on, and then immediately hold down Volume Up + Volume Down at the same time. Let go of the buttons at the exact moment you see the "Samsung" Logo.
Select "Wipe Data/Factory Reset"
Then choose "Install Zip" then "Chose Zip From External SDCard" and select the PAndroid version you downloaded in step one. Do this TWICE just to be sure.
Next flash the G-Apps file you downloaded from step one the same way.
OPTIONAL: If you need to install the Stock Bell ICS Modem, now would be the time to do it. You can get it from dsixda's Dev-Host: http://bit.ly/Wu4SJe
Reboot your device.
What Doesn't Work
Some GUI elements (ie. Youtube Controls) become hidden behind content
Some camera apps display as unintended (ie. Instagram)
No touch-to-focus for camera. Regular focus does work though
"Random" crashes
Sources and Acknowledgements
Huge thanks to Socim for getting the ball rolling on this device again! bit.ly/Vc3j7d
Also, I based most of my instructions off of dsixda's posts. bit.ly/UavsHn
And to the community for not letting this amazing phone go to waste!

thank you so much for the ROM. A quick question though, the white flash at my hardware keys (navigation bar) remain always on. I think the light should only be activated on use.

I suppose it because I set touchkey autobrightness to true in framework config, so you guys who doesn't turned on autobrightness will encounter this.
Home and Search buttons don't work
ROM looks good so far, just flashed this morning. Only issue I have noticed is the home and search buttons don't work.
[UPDATE]
I reinstalled and looks like something that loaded when I restored with Titanium backup caused the home button issues. Everything looks good now.

No problem! Really gave me time to truly get used to the post editor!
Is this rom still being worked on? I have a t989d and the jb roms for it are amazingly stable and still being improved. Would love to see a jb rom for this phone become a stable daily driver.
Gonna flash this either way and check it out!
Working Good here. Great work!!!
The phablet mode 600px with a defualt DPI of 290 works great and looks great for most apps! Some may need individual adjustment. The only app that will need adjustment after reboot is the launcher. This is what you do.
You head into paranoid settings,
hit the Apps button on the left.
Then choose Trebuchet and adjust the DPI to exactly 228. Hit Apply.
This makes everything look right again. In both the drawer and on the home screen. Otherwise your apps in drawer will not fill the screen properly, and icons start looking to small. On the home screen, for some reason if you have 5 coloumns or less, you lose your last two icons on your launcher. You will also need to do the following.
head into the launcher settings,
click home screen.
Adjust the rows to your choice.
But the coloumns need to be 6 or more.
While you are in there you will also want to
enable Resize any widget
and disable wallpaper scrolling.
I also changed alot of my dpi for other individual apps, making things look even better. This rom has made my phone work and look more awesome than it was ever destined to be! Thanks to everyones continued efforts on this phone.
Only issues I have are backlight keys sometimes do not want to come back on when you unlock phone. They do come back on later tho, never really timed it. Also andom reboots. Maybe like one or two a day.
Also I should mention DO NOT install the latest gapps
gapps-jb-20121128-signed.zip
I installed it and it broke my keyboard. If you just gotta try it..... then make sure you have a nand backup done first.
To get the backlights to come on just adjust your screen brightness...lights come on, for me anyway. I have the slider in notification bar so it's not a big deal.

I tried it for a few minutes and half way through restoring the apps and settings, the phone got extremely hot. So now I'm back to CM10, but if anyone knows what's wrong, I'd love to try it out again.

I suggest not restoring your apps and settings using Google's wizard. Sometimes it breaks a lot. Instead, just restore your apps manually using the Play Store OR a previous Titanium Backup.

When we got Android 4.2 we will need it.
Hey guys just an update on my phones experience. The rom is pretty stable for me as well. However I have had a few sudden reboots and system ui crashes. As well the latest gapps do not work correctly for me for some reason so I flashed the gapps from cm9 and that works.
The sudden reboots happen mainly when watching a video or changing wallpapers and the system ui crashes out of no where.
Now I have wiped cashed partition and delvik cach which solves the above mentioned two issues it for awhile but continues again. As well re flashing the PA rom from Nov 22.

Actually that's what I always do. At first, I let the Play Store downloads all the apps again, and then I restore the user apps data using Titanium Backup. This way, I don't have to tap "Install" for every fricking app. But it got so hot in the middle of downloading the apps, that I kinda freaked out and got back to CM10. It may be related to the settings and configuration connected to my Google account. I'll try again without entering my user name and password at the start and see how it goes.
I ran the ROM for the better part of 16 hrs (workday testbed) other than the play store crashing here and there, I had no issues, I was very impressed. I noticed the benchmark scores were low but if anything we know they're nothing more than a number in most cases. I did have the same heating up issue with heavy file transfers but honestly couldn't give you a value of PA vs dsixda's ICS rom. Performance "felt" much smoother and more fluid. Gallery, lights and what not worked like a charm.
PA question - Where do I turn on display battery %? I'm going to run it another day with all my automated & battery apps running, see how battery life is.
Thanks for the dev on the ROM guys, really gave new life to the device. I was seriously debating axing it for another, at my own expense since its a work phone.
Everything except for the Paranoid settings, adjusts the same way as CM10. You can find the option for battery % under System Settings/system/Status Bar.
I forgot to mention one thing that had caused me issues. When I installed PANov23 I had high useage on the app named "media". I killed it have not had a problem since. I also prefer the noop or deadline scheduler and have heard that the CFQ scheduler can sometimes take some time to scan your sdcard causing high CPU useage upon bootup. I also recommend spending the money on the PRO version of Titanium Backup. If you are a frequent Flasher, and not a dirty flasher, then you SHOULD have a paid copy of this app!!
I also use GSam Battery Monitor to watch what eats my battery. Its like Better Battery Stats, but more robust. Check it out.

Should have mentioned I've never been a CM10 user. I started off with Android only very recently with an S3 first and the dev wasn't there for a daily driver, then I swapped that in for a Note 2, so again, little dev atm. And then i757, so again, even less dev.

Nexus 4 KitKat 4.4 Issues

So I followed the instructions to go from ParanoidAndroid to Stock, and I chose to stock to 4.4... now I'm having issues.. strange ones.
1) The Home Key doesn't do anything.
2) The lockscreen is non-existent
3) When I press and hold the power button, all I get is "Power Off".. no other options.
4) I don't get notifications, and when I pull down the notifications menu, none of the functions work (User settings, Date & Time, etc.)
5) If I use the "stock launcher", I continuously get "Launcher has crashed" error, never goes away.
Any help with any of this? I've been trying to fix it for hours.
Thanks in advance, guys..

Make sure it is connected as MTP. Try uninstall and reinstall the drivers. I had a hard time finding the drivers before as I am using 64bit win7. Drivers I found before had some troubles as it was not signed..so I can't use in on 64bit os. If all else fails..use airdroid to transfer your files. Good luck.

Same issues here. I flashed it via fastboot. Used the "flash-all.bat" script, but took out the "-w" option so it wouldn't wipe my data.
I'm having the exact same issues but going from stock 4.3 to 4.4 ota when the notification showed up saying I was good to go. Never been rooted at all.
My opinion on this update
well my opinion on this update is that it seems as though it was rushed and for some reason they didnt include the google experience launcher... like why would you announce and then not release

Google have never announced the Google launcher.
Google have never said they will release the launcher for devices other than the Nexus 5.
Google have never called it Google Experience Launcher.
It doesn't take any effort to make it work on the N4.
Update
Here's an update: One other issue I had was my phone would not work if someone called me. I could call out, but calls to my phone went to voicemail. I decided to put Android 4.3 back on...but then the thing got stuck at the Nexus X screen. I flashed a couple of times, but nothing. The one thing I didn't want to do was lose my data...just a pain. One thing I did while dealing with the 4.4 issues, was copy over my data.
I had to end up re-flashing everything losing my data. I basically used option "D" from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34552123&postcount=1
I would think there is a way to fix the 4.4 problems, however, not having my phone work really wasn't an option. I could deal with the home button, notifications, etc...
Oh...about 10 minutes after I was finally back in 4.3, I get a notification that 4.4 was downloading. A bit later I was able to install using the OTA and it worked! Now I'm on 4.4. I haven't rooted it, and I'm pretty sure I've lost CWM, but after spending 3 hours or so dealing with this...even getting the "red" light at one point, I think I'll call it a day. Just thought I'd update for others.

Im having the exact same issue but I installed the official OTA update. Will probably try flashing like you did. Haven't seen this issue posted anywhere else.
Over the air update also gave same symptoms (and a couple more)
Dear All,
I got the update pushed over the air automatically and clicked to update thinking all was going to be fine
I am having all the symptoms listed, and I can add 2 more for the sake of completeness (and to highlight the annoyance):
1-When clicking on links from Google Now results or any app other than Chrome (I do not have other browsers installed), Chrome gets launched (or switched to), but it reloads the last open tab instead of loading the link.
2-The double finger down swipe to access the profile is not working (and I did not find a way to access it, since clicking on the little profile icon in the empty notification screen I get with the single finger swipe down, also does not work, it does not even click).
For some reason, until I rebooted Email did not work (it kept sitting in "checking" the inbox, but was not able to get messages).
Really bummed that this happened with an updated pushed by Google on my Nexus4. Will try to follow recipes to back-up my data.
I am new to forum/android: is there a direct way to submit feedback to Google team? Does it make sense to try to do so? It would be nice to know what caused the problem and I'd be happy to send debugging input for them.
I guess next time I'll wait on the fence a bit before updating the operating system.
Thanks,
Gabriele
Maybe you guys need to do factory reset after the update. I know it's quite a hassle as all your data will be gone. Just backup whatever things you need and reset it.
Clean install here. Never had any issues and kitkat works great even on dalvik.

Google support solution
Dear arffrhn and all,
I finally managed, after a lot of frustration to talk with Google support (had to go through Google Play Help center, and pursue "apps" help to get to click on a "Call us" button, and they called me to a landline in Europe within 15 seconds).
Once I got transferred to hardware support, Eveline mention how she believed the issue was with some "glitch" during the update... she told me that in many cases a cache partition clear would be enough, but if that did not work, a factory reset should do it.
She guided me through the first process:
Clear cache partition.
1. Hold power button for 2 seconds and select 'Power Off'
2. Press and hold the Volume Up and the Volume Down and Power keys at the same time for about 10 seconds.
3. An image of an Android lying on its back will appear.
4. Press the Volume Down key twice until "Recovery mode" appears on the screen.
5. Press the Power key to restart in "Recovery mode."
6. An image of an Android with a red triangle will appear.
7. While holding down the Power key, tap the Volume Up key.
8. The Android System Recovery screen will appear. Release all keys.
9. Use the Volume keys to scroll to wipe data cache partition and press the Power key to select.
10. The phone will restart.

Unfortunately this was not enough to fix my problem... still same symptoms.
So she offered to help me back-up my data, I had already used AirDroid to back up all the files, apps, pics, videos etc so I preferred to stay on the line and proceed with the factory reset in case that would not work.
Here are the steps:
Factory data reset.
Please note that performing a factory data reset on your device will return your phone or tablet to its original state. I'd recommend backing up and saving any photos, videos, music, or other items you might have stored on your device's local memory. If you have a device with an SD card (for instance, a Samsung Galaxy S 4 Google Play edition), your media content (photos, music, etc.) stored there will not be deleted.
To perform a factory reset:
Go to Settings > Backup & reset.
- Press Factory data reset
- Press Reset
After you perform the factory reset, you'll need to sign into your device with the same primary Google account you were using before in order to sync your purchased apps and other content.
If you're unable to get to your Settings menu, follow the steps below:
1. Power down your device
2. Press and hold both volume keys and the power button to enter Bootloader mode
3. Press the volume keys to cycle to the Recovery mode option
4. Press the power button to select Recovery mode
5. From the Recovery mode screen, press and hold the Power button then press the Volume up button.
6. Use the volume buttons to select wipe data/factory reset.
7. Select Yes -- delete all user data.
8. The factory data reset process will now start. Once its finished, select 'Reboot system now.'
Click to collapse
I was able to access my Settings menu, so I did not need to follow all the steps, but just do the data/factory reset.
The phone came back up asking usual personalization questions, and it all was fixed... now I have to spend a few hours getting back my apps, data, settings, etc... but my problem was solved without having to re-flash or anything like that.
I filed a feedback about the abysmal situation of the Google Play help center and asked the two support people I spoke with to raise the issue internally... when I selected the natural line of help (device, technical support) after a couple of screens I got to a blank "Select device" screen that was a dead end. I had to go though apps support that only offered phone support... but in the end it worked.
Hope sharing this will help others! Not sure whether I should peek into the Google Experience Laucher eventually... back to work for now!
Cheers,
Gabriele
PS
The steps quoted above were sent by Eveline after our conversation was over, in case I needed to use them again. She mentioned that if I were to have more problems they could look into a potential hardware failure of my almost our of warranty Nexus 4.
