Does the headphones which come with the iPhone 3GS with the in line remote (play/pause/ volume) work on the nexus one? Does the microphone work?
i don;t know, but the inline ones that come in the box with play, pause, fast forward and rewind do....
I was just asking because I have some Scosche In ear headphones which has the iPhone inline remote. Sound quality will no doubt be better than the supplied headphones, just wondered it the remote/mic will still work in a Nexus One
i honestly don't know.
Does your inline set have a collar around the 3.5 mm jack like sony's used to? or is it just the 3.5mm jack on there?
If it's just a 3.5mm jack on it, then there's a possibility if there is any sort of standard for those controls, but i would have expected Apple to use their own way of doing things....No doubt HTC have on the Nexus one as well
I tried to find the comment, but yesterday I read that a user had his iPhone headset with inline remote work fine but without volume control (the HTC inline remote doesn't adjust volume from what I can tell).
according to ryan block the button works but volume control doesnt

Great stuff thanks
I just got a Samsung Focus, and am wondering why the mic on my headset isn't working with this phone. My headset is a Shure M115+, which works fine with iPhones and my Samsung Captivate, but it doesn't seem to work with the Focus. I don't think there's a hardware problem, since the pack-in headset works fine with the Focus. It seems like some sort of crazy compatibility bug. Is there anything I can do?
Interesting - I tried answering a call with my roommate's iPhone 4 headset, which has worked just fine on my HD2, my Vibrant, and my Nexus, but didn't work on this. Haven't tried the bundled one, because my ears just don't deal well with in-ear headsets.
Some one had mentioned that HTC and Samsung do not use the same connection setup.
For what it's worth, my headset works with the Samsung Captivate (AT&T's version of the Galaxy S).
The mic pin is wired differently. That's why it doesn't work for you. There are two different types of wiring: iPhone types and Nokia types. Samsung can pick any type they want, even between different models, just to screw you up with those accessories (old trick).
I'm using a set of ultimate ears triplefi.10vi which work with the iphone and have no issues.
Hey people. Thanks for all info, been reading about the defy here for some time. Got one now and I love it. I had a few smartphones before and this is by far the one I would stick to forever if I had to.
So, my question is: Are there any good head phones (in-ear plugs, with mic and maybe even music controlers) avaliable, and that I can be certain to be compatible with the Defy? Or could I just buy any that works fine with other Android or Motorola devices? Motorola is not sold in Sweden where I live, so it's not like I can check out any stores IRL here...
With my Xperia x20 mini, exacly what I described came along with the phone. Too bad that you just got these normal plugs with the defy. Cos there is just no way I would use those. As of now I stick to my old head phones but I'd love the mic function with my In-ear plugs.
Thanks for any help!
Ekholm
Ok, so I found this site:
thinkmotoroladefy.com/wiredheadsets.html
and it's all looking good, except for the part that they are a bit low-priced. I'm looking for high quality ones. I.e my current head phones was about 90 USD.
For information, iphone handsfree works fine
Thanks!
By chance, does anyone know if "Klipsch Image S4i" would work? they seams to be perfect! Volume, track fwd bwd and play...
I got one of these a few months ago, works fine with my HTC Desire. Not the best headphones in the world, but more than capable of handling a bus ride. You can unplug the headphones, clip on a small plastic hook and use it as an in-ear Bluetooth headset too. Two birds with one stone
I can get around 10 hours out of them between charges.
Thanks, it seams to be mono, right? Mono doesnt sound too thrilling...
If you use power amp you can set it up to use the controls on headphones to start and stop music, instead of calling the last number you called. It will work on the lock screen too.
This was the only way of getting it to work i found for the defy and i tried about 10 different headphones with in-line controls. Bluetooth stereo sets like the one above with controls seem to work fine for music however, ive got a sony bluetooth set and the controls worked right away on the standard media player.

Hi everybody I'm new,
Does anyone can confirm this pinout for Defy's jack 3.5mm?
1. Tip - Left audio
2. Ring - Right audio
3. Ring - Ground
4. Sleeve - Mic
or this used in most mobiles:

I use Razer Moray+™ they have no remote function so you have to answer the call on the phone. But you have a mic and the work good for musik and phone calls.
anyone got an update for this, still looking for ear buds with a mic.
Klipsch Pro Media set(based on the S4i but a bit better build for traveling etc).
Awesome set up with defy. The S5i rugged set is also great as they are moisture proof and very overbuilt.

Thx,
Yeah, exactly as you wrote.
I remade cheap handset with remote (from eg. www.ebay.com).
It works with any headphones
I used my original headset on a iphone before. So I assume that every headset that works on the iphone should also work on the defy.

I wonder if Sony Ericsson's headsets work. These seem pretty good:
goo.gl/TquJQ
goo.gl/eQc9W
Would be good if they work.
BTW, I tried Samsung Galaxy SL's Stereo In ear handsfree and the sound quality was just awesome! Might get myself one of those!!
I've tried the iPhone standard headphones and sound works but Mic and controls don't. There is a pair of sennheiser mm50 Nokia. Which will work fine. Ordering one shortly.
Hi
I can confirm that at least not all iphone headset work the defy, even if the pinout is identical. I tried the Sennheiser MM70i and they don't work!
I soldered the mic of the standard Headset to the MM70 and now im happy,
but definitely nothing i can recommend
greetings

I have already tried 2 different headsets with my i9000.They were working fine in the beggining but now the left one works in a VERY low volume.I tried with voodoo but nothing changed. Can someone help me with Service Mode.I think there is the problem and the solution .thanks!
U broke ur head phones, simple as that.

I already said that i have tested another pair and they work fine in listening music etc. When the audio jack is a simple 2way then the music works fine. When i insert a 3way(with mic) audio jack, samsung & 3rd party earphones with mic, one speaker doesnt work even nearly as loud as the other.
Maybe low battery, u may have not noticed low battery.

That's because the 3 way audio jack is meant for apple products, I had this problem before until I realised that you had to hold down the mic button. If you want these to work you can buy adapters on ebay on the cheap.
i have the same problem after installing cm 7.1 - earphones works with any other device, but not with my sgs. holding down mic button doesn't work. I tried to use adaptors added to my urbanears headset (dedicated for nokia / other devices) - still the same issue.
well isnt there any way the Service mode can alter to balance the speakers?I have used voodoo with great results in normal earphones 2way-jack,but on the 3way it becomes a little loud but not as the other speaker!Abput the adaptors i have noticed people who worked for them and people who didnt. What adapter is the most <trustworthy>?
If you are using headset (earphone+mic+remote) for Apple or HTC, get a 3.5mm male to female TRRS adapter.
This will solve your problem.
No i am using the original samsung headset and another headset to check if the samys if faulty!i am fooling around inside service mode but cant find anything. How do i revert any changes back to stock in the Service mode?
anyone get to the bottom of this - driving me mad !
original headset - v low volume - increases when you push mic button
very weird
Original Sammy-made headphones (3 way) work fine on sgs. I had problem like this because I was simply not plugging 'em down and now headphones work normally. Since 3-way female 3.5mm is unified for all devices, you have to try to blow out all dust out of the phone 'cuz audio port isn't covered like usb or this plug in as far as possible.
I am also facing same sort of problem, most of the headphones don't work during call but do work on music
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
I have tried everything - phones are definitely pushed in properly - port is clean , as asrafw says phone volume on headset is fine for music - just rubbish for calls . Asra does your mic key on headset being held increase volume ?
I have found the opposite - do not push them all the way down then they work fine !
Headphones
You have to buy an iPhone-Nokia adapter, or switch the ground and data pins on any other headphone, which is designed iPhone-style.
To verify that the headset is that kind, if you press the middle button, then you should hear the music clearly.
Or buy headphones made for Nokia or Sony (Ericsson) products.
Even Samsung have changed to the new style with Galaxy Tab, so no proof that if it works with newer Samsung products, then it will work with our phones.
Have you tried a neutral stereo adapter. I got one with my UrbanEars headphones and they work well with it attached.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA
Yes, the middle button (mic) does improve volume - so what you are saying is that these headsets never worked properly ever !
Do you have a photo of the adapters you 2 are using - just want to make sure I get it right ,
cheers
This is a pic of my cable. I noticed last night that the headphone plug itself is a little different than the neutral stereo plug in that the neutral plug on has two coloured bands whereas the headphone plug has 3. This must be the difference between I pods and earlier androids.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA
thanks - I presume that is 2.5mm to 3.5mm convertor ?
Hmmm think its a 2-way / 3-way thing rather than a size thing.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA
so boths end of jack are 3.5mm ?

Hi All
I don't know if you experienced any problem like that.
I can't use any microphone+headphone combo (headset) with my Nexus 4.
My original plan was to use the headset for calling plus to use the button to play and pause music on the phone. As far as I know when is the button pressed long the Google Now service should start immediately. None of them works at all.
The only thing has happened so far, when I connect the headset the Google Now starts unexpectedly.
I tried to use earphone, which worked perfectly well. I think though these are not for the same purpose, and i can expect a simple headset to work flawlessly with my high-end headset.
In my personal opinion, or rather guess this is related to the hissing noise in the earpiece.
I would appreciate your opinion, experience or whatever which can help.
What you described happens when you connect a headset with OMTP jack which is not compatible. Nexus 4 needs a headset with CTIA connector.

Thanks for the prompt answer.:good:
As previous answers I believe that it's wrong plug. Maybe it's Sony Ericsson or a Nokia headset. Can be from older Samsung or ZTE or Huawei.
They ask use that plug. (Not 100% sure about after blade 1)

I am not familiar with the terminology, but this phone uses the same configuration as iPhone . so if the headset works on iPhone, it will also work on the Nexus 4.
There are also third party headphone adaptor that you can buy online.

Older Sony Ericsson devices have OMTP plug (incompatible). With more recent devices (e.g. Xperia U, Xperia S), Sony decided to switch to CTIA plug aswell. So those headsets will work with Nexus 4.
I found you can identify CTIA headsets with the color of the plastic rings on the plug. CTIA has grey rings, OMTP has other color (e.g. black). Attached image shows 2 versions of the Sony MH650. CTIA version (MH650c) is on the right with grey plastic rings, OMTP version is on the left with black rings.

Thanks for the valuable info. I bought the Sony headset you advised. It works perfectly well.
Any of you wants a one-button headset for your Nexus 4, buy this one. Cheap, original Sony, superb.
