Hey guys,
I know this question may have been answered a million times but most of the tutorials deal with htc magic that is in either Canada or US and I was reading that if done incorrectly, I pose the risk of bricking my device which is something I do not really wish to do. I am also new to rooting since I have not done anything of the sort so I don't know if rooting steps differ from the telecom company of htc magic you got it from so please bare with me.
I got my HTC Magic from Saudi Arabia under Saudi Telecom (STC) and I have checked the type that I have and it is:
SAPPHIRE PVT 321 SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT-1.33.0010 (SAPP10000)
CPLD-12
RADIO-3.22.20.17
FIRMWARE VERSION: 1.5
Can somebody please help me out on how to root my phone? I shall forever be in your debt! Thank you so much!

What is PVT 321? :O
I've heard only of 32A/B until now..but otherwise it seems to be 32A (according to CyanogenMod Wiki), at least the other details are what I had - and Saudi Telecom Magics should all be 32A.
I followed this guide: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Magic_(32A):_Rooting_(3.22.x_radio)
There are some others, of course, but this for sure works!
Thanks for the quick reply kanttii and yes PVT is 32A not 321, I mistyped it. Anyways I was reading it and it seems fairly simple but after I do the steps there, can I then choose what ROM I want to flash my phone with? Or does cyanogenmod already has its own ROM? I know I may be asking such a dumb question but I am really clueless when it comes to this. Thank you so much for the help!
hmm go to this post of mine.

it deals with the problem which arise if you mess up your flashing etc.
just so you know, goldcard method will not work, as i have tried many different cards.

any one have solution for this? thank you very much in advance
Same here
Exactly the save versions as yours.
I got one from Vodacom in South Africa yesterday, and none of the rooting guides seem to work. I'm really only interested in "tethering" with my phone, as I'm often on the road with my laptop and haven't had a need to buy a second modem just yet. Was hoping I could use the Magic in the same way I used my Nokia.
Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried PDANet yet?
I had same problem , how i solve is to download the recovery.img and the update.zip from the following , you cannot use standard version.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=523913
you must ensure that you use update.zip from here else after the update you won't be able to start up.
first do download both
daldroid-htcmagic1-signed.zip and daldroid-recovery.img
and copy both to the sdcard follow same step
rename daldroid-htcmagic1-signed.zip to update.zip
restart in fast boot mode , and run command.
fastboot boot daldroid-recovery.img
hope this help.
Your HTC Magic is different than the HTC Magic from Vodafone.
HTC Magic from Rogers US, TIM Italy, 3 Scandinavia, Vodacom South Africa and more are the original HTC Magics from HTC - they have different SPL, Kernel.
So you can only root through the metod as stated above - Daldroid made it possible.
For the time beeing you can´t flash other roms than Daldroid´s with root, without trouble.
Incidentally, it seems that the Rogers Magic is quite a bit similar to this one...
The Rogers HTC Magic reports the following on the fastboot screen:
Code:

Not sure if daldroid's method will work on the rogers one.... there is a bit of a difference in the model number.

A rogers user reported success flashing his ROM.
go to the latest (as of current time) posts on the thread.
One user reported he successfully flashed a rom, but he had to change the SPL. As Rogers stock SPL and radio are newer than the flashed one, furthermore no spl image is available to restore the original, I suggest to follow the thread and verify the progress with a second user I asked to make some test.
I don't have Rogers myself, cannot test it for you.
Can anybody help ive followed all the magic rooting tutorials but when i enter fastboot boot recovery-new.img into terminal i get the following message "cannot load boot-new.img" i have all the drivers installed and have followed the wiki exact plus ive read every page of the rooting thread in the development page and searched the rest of this forum i have a uk vodaphone magic, cheers inadvanced

Alright, so here's what I've done so far.
-Grabbed Daldroid's "daldroid-recovery.img" and the signed rom, which was renamed to "update.zip".
-Copied both onto my SD card.
-Fastbooted my Rogers Magic using "fastboot boot daldroid-recovery.img"
-Performed a Nandroid backup
-Wiped the data
-Applied the "update.zip"
-Rebooted
I got the Rogers screen, then the HTC Magic screen, then the HTC chiming screen where it made me wait for a bit. Buttons flashed and voila, I am booted into a different rom (no Rogers crap).
I confirmed that after flashing, my device info still says HBOOT-1.33.0009. At no point did I attempt to flash Haykuro's SPL or change the radio, as it's still 3.22.20.17.
I think I'm doing things right, so hopefully this info helps
Edit: Tried flashing QTeknology's Optimized Hero Rom, and it hung on the Rogers screen for a long time (waited at least 5 min), but was able to revert to the Daldroid rom.
Edit2: It's the same situation for other roms, like nk02's ported Rogers rom. It looks like .0009 is a no-go.

Does anyone of you have backup and can upload it to rapidshare? please?
Hi all,
I was hoping someone could explain some of the data from the FASTBOOT screen...
I have an HTC Vodafone Magic and this is what appears on the FASTBOOT screen:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32B SHIP S-ON G
HBOOT-1.33.004 (SAPP100000)
CPLD-10
RADIO -2.22.19.26I
Apr 9 2009, 23:30:40
In particular, what does the "S-ON" vs "S-OFF" signify?
I take it the "G" indicates Google branded HTC?
how about "HBOOT-...."?
and the "CPLD-10"?
A friend came round a few days ago, flashed my ROM to the Smartphone France 2.5.0 ROM so I could sync with exchange server ( mixed reations ATM, contacts sync keeps giving errors... heard it was not fixable?). That's what lead me here...
I'd like to try the recovery-RAv1.1.2G.img and the latest 32B Hero (pure black) - VODAFONE MAGIC - KITCHEN and see if they're any better, specifically for the exchange syncing.
Better know my basics first though,... I hope I haven't missed an obvious post that discusses this by my search efforts using "ENG S-ON" and "CPLD-10" returned nothing (too short? bad syntax?)
Any help/explanation much appreciated - Also any comments re: the proposed ROM flashing above...? i.e. is this a "good" choice ATM?
Many thanks, and what a great community!

Hi
Im new to this as well I found some great resources here.
check this out, i didnt and had to lean the hard way:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=519523
hope it goes well
I want to root the phone but am not sure the version I have and don't want to get it wrong, have searched here and with Google to no avail.
Details of phone are as follows:
Model # : HTC Dream
Firmware Ver : 1.5
Baseband Ver : 62.525.20.18U_3.22.20.17
Kernel Ver : [email protected] )
Build # : 1.86.421.1 146733 CL#47295 release-keys
Any ideas?
Judging by the radio version, I'd say rogers.
mmn, doesn't say Rogers anywhere, it's from Leaf in South Africa, the distributors of HTC phones here.
How would I know which RCxx file to use?

RCxx is for TMOBILE ONLY.
Funny that it would have the same radio version as a rogers phone. Check the frequencies used by that carrier for 3G -- if they're something like 850/1900 (I think that's the frequencies used by Rogers) rather than 1700/2100, then most likely the phone is physically identical to a rogers phone and rooting it would likely be a very similar procedure -- this has a lot to do with the SPL version, and since the radio version number is the same as for rogers, I suspect (note: I don't guarantee anything) that the same SPL's would be compatible.
thank you, lbcoder.
3G here appears to be 2100 MHz (http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html) but 2G is 900/1800
If I use the Rogers method, I'm confused (after much reading and searching) as to which rooting method to use then, hyeProfile's method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4280573&postcount=130 or haykuro's method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4271500&postcount=1 or Charrion's method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4503296&postcount=1
or should I not use the Rogers method but something else?
I'd like to use a CyanogenMod Rom.
Any sound advice would be appreciated?

I think following a Rogers rooting process would be your best bet. However, I'm no hardware guru so I MAY be wrong. If someone thinks otherwise, please say so.
Some good info on rooting the Rogers model can be found here. I rooted my Rogers phone a while back. All I'll say is to follow the walkthroughs VERY carefully. I'll also say that if you follow that post, you'll want to read the CM wiki as well.
I have a Rogers Dream lying around, so I'll try to install CM latest on it and let you know how it goes.
[UPDATE] CM 4.2.7.1 is running fine on my Dream. Just make sure you read everything before you start.

First of all if you follow all the instructions you shouldn't have any difficulty.
Secondly, you posted in the wrong section. I'll move to General but next time I'll close your thread.
Third, I took the honors of removing post #2 and used the EDIT button to modify your original post. You should also consider editing your original post before posting one to correct it for future reference.

Who knows. You have a perfected spl so it's hard to say.
What works fine for some MyTouch phones may not work for others.
Since we don't know what instructions you have used and what methods you have used it's impossible for us to tell you what you're doing wrong.
It's not that we don't want to help, because we do, it's just very difficult to do so when we know nothing about what you have done so far to do it yourself.
So far the only thing that you said was you followed 'THE' instructions (which ones... we don't know) and failed with a MyTouch device with these specifications:

Hi all, I am helping my friend upgrade her mytouch 3g to froyo after reading the guide listed on this page. However, I am extremely confused by what version of android she has in her phone.
The baseband is listed is 62.50sc.20.17u-2.22.23.02
kernel is at 2.6.29-g023e5c9
build number at 2.10.531.4.
Is this DR92 supposed to be? I searched all over the internet and can't figure out what these information match to. I think it should be before DMD64 but when i tried applying the DR92 to DMD64 update. It says siganiture failure too. So this means it's even before DR92. But it is 1.6 firmware as reported in the system..
Can anyone help? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

not necessarily if its the black mytouch then its a 32A idk y lol i have white one n its a 32B (this is just my opinion )
Well they imported google branded htc magics both 32a and 32b, so i dont know if you can do OTA update, but you can root phone and install rooted OTA with cm ported kernel for 32a
Is rooting the only way available? Since it's not my phone, I don't really want messing it up.. thanks.

As i said idk, I think it is because Tmobile only did update 32b magic and dream. You can mess up the phone cuz you just cant if you do all things right.
go to www.theunlockr.com adn find in how to's section phone and you have 1 click root.then install recovery and after that install ROM. If you do have probs PM me.
