[Q] Squashfs module for kernel - Kindle Fire General

Does Kindle Fire supports SQUASHFS directly if not, can any kernel developer do a favour and provide squashfs module that could be used with default kernel.

Since I could not find all the modules I needed, and did not want to bug devs any more, I decided to bite the bullet and compile myself.
These are for the plain 3.2 kernel, which is 2.6.36.3+
I compiled the following modules, which are all in the same 7zip file:
Network:
tun.ko #for openvpn
option.ko #for some 3G modems
asix.ko #for usb ethernet adapters that uses Asix AX88x72 chipset​
Filesystem:
cifs.ko #windows shares
nfs.ko #unix/linux shares
isofs.ko #cd iso images
udf.ko #cd udf images​
USB to serial converter:
ftdio_sio.ko #ftdi usb2serial converters. Prolific chipset is already in the kernel so I did not compile that.​
I have tested these under the stock 3.2 with root rom, the one in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1290318 and they load fine without errors on dmesg.

I have a request I have looked around and have not been able to find this module anywhere. It is the joydev module that supports many gamepads, joysticks and even some racing wheels. The source is available and even some modules for other devices but nothing for any tegra devices. I have a transformer myself but being the same hardware the module should work on either device. I have included the list of devices that are supported by the driver and the source for the driver. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

usb_wwan seems to be statically compiled into the kernel already (USB driver for GSM and CDMA modems), so there isn't any module but it is always there in the kernel.
I am going to update the original post for the option.ko shortly.
Getting some errors on some of these. Anyone else having issues?
Tried these from both /system/lib/modules and sdcard.

Triple checked that the nfs.ko file was there and named correctly.
Following modules have installed fine.
asix, ftdi_sio, and cifs
I've just checked those two on my a500. It seems like option.ko is statically linked into the kernel, because on dmesg it says "option: module is already loaded". If I am guessing it correct (e.g. driver is statically linked in the kernel) than it means you don't need the .ko at all.
For the nfs, it throws bunch of "unknown symbol" errors on dmesg, I am guessing it cannot read symbols from the kernel. If that's the case, it would need a new kernel with a modified makefile, which is beyond my abilities unfortunately.

You need system/etc/init.d folder with modules file.
I posted a patch for testing here is link maybe it works , flash with cwm.

[Q] custom kernel with initrd?

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a little help in booting a custom linux kernel on the Acer Iconia a500 with an initrd (not an initramfs, and the distinction is important). I'm working on building an ARM version of the Porteus Linux OS, which is a slackware-based linux-live distribution.
I have compiled a custom kernel based on sp3_dev's 2.6.38 kernel sources, added a patch for aufs, compiled in support for XZ compression, squashfs and a few other things, and I can get this system to boot into a functional GUI using an initramfs that I've embedded into the kernel (it looks like this is how other folks are using a ramdisk). However, Porteus typically uses an initrd to set up the live filesystem, and moving to an initramfs will require rewriting a number of scripts and maintaining them separately from the x86 tree. I have tried booting with an initrd in a number of ways, and have failed each time and google/xda searches have not yielded a solution. I've packaged my zImage and initrd.xz with mkbootimg and flashed it to mmcblk0p1 to dual boot linux with android, and tried hard-coding a number of calls for initrd in the kernel cmdline, such as, "initrd=/dev/mmcblk0p1/intird.xz", "initrd=/initrd.xz", "initrd=0x11000000,16M" all to no avail.
So, my question is this: is there any way to get the kernel to load an initrd (which is not embedded in the kernel itself) without replacing the stock bootloader? I'd prefer to keep the installation easy and low-risk for other users.

And I am trying making something similar,but I'm want make initrd who boots from internal storage like tf101 kernel, and I can't make kernel working with initrd , I'm using netham's initrd source and guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158260&page=24 , when I compiled the kernel and make boot.img then it says - kernel panic, can't find initrd... . My question is - what format initrd should be .cpio, .img, .gz... if it doesn't matter, then what kernel command should be in boot options to kernel .config. sorry for bad English.
Thanks, Tautvaldas. If you are following netham's instructions, you are using an initramfs that is built into the kernel. You can either specify a cpio/gzipped archive in the kernel config (CONFIG_INITRAMFS_SOURCE) or point it to a directory containing the files and subdirectories you want inside your initramfs and the compiler will cpio and compress it at build time. I use the second approach as it saves the steps involved in creating the cpio image and gzipping it. Once you've done this, I don't believe you need to specify an initrd in CONFIG_CMDLINE. The initramfs is then contained inside zImage, so when you generate the new "recovery.img" with mkbootimg, you still point -initrd to /dev/zero.
To clarify, an initramfs (probably named something like initrd.gz) is both a cpio archive and gzip compressed. Google 'initrd cpio' for more on how to extract and compress them.

Well, I didn't sort out how to load an initrd directly, but a friend did find a script for me that can be used in an initramfs and make it look (and work) like an initrd. In case anyone else runs into this issue, here's the relevant portions of the script:
# Build a ramdisk and copy ourselves over, so we look like an initrd
mke2fs -m 0 /dev/ram0 >/dev/null 2>&1
mount -t ext4 /dev/ram0 /mnt
for item in /*; do [ "$item" != "/mnt" ] && cp -a $item /mnt; done

[Q] Nfs, Cifs, module kernel for 4.4.2?

I'm looking for these modules nfs, and cifs.
I'm in stock 4.4.2 (KOT49H) factory rooted. I want to mount my nas synology in /sdcard/synology
As i see, i'm unable to find any answer about cifs and nfs module for Nexus 4. Some of you have create a custom kernel that include these modules.
I'm familiar with "everytime flash", everytime flashin recovery to the last TWRP or CWM, baseband, etc.....
So How i can't find these module in any rom or kernel that i've tested? what is so hard? no one think about this?
My question is : Is that possible to "put" these module and use them in 4.4.2?

Request: N9100F stock boot.img with mount patch, enables systemwide readable mounts

I have tried to build an N9100F stock boot.img with the zygote slave mountspace patch (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2106480) applied, but failed. I've built a couple custom kernels for a couple of phones in my time, but apparently now my toolchain, or something is messed up, as my phone will not boot with my built boot.img.
Could an experienced developer help me with this and build the boot.img
The zygote slave mountspace patch, when applied allows users to mount any storage outside of /storage so that it's accessible systemwide.
For this you need to:
- patch the N9100F kernel source with the attached patch
- build the kernel
- get the stock initramfs.cpio.gz and patch its init.rc with the attached patch
- rebuild the initramfs.cpio.gz
- combine the built kernel zImage and rebuilt initramfs.cpio.gz into a new boot.img
Could someone do this? I keep failing.
The new boot.img could be useful as it would fix the stupid limitations in Android 4.4.2 of not allowing systemwide access to storage mounts.
Concretely, I would like to mount partitions on SD cards formatted with ext4 and have them accessible for any app and not just root and this is the only way to do it.

Is any Nougat Kernel supports CIFS/NFS to directly mount Shared Network drive in system?
Or is it possible to fetch it from Android-M kernel with CIFS support?
