Hi, i got my kindle fire 3 days ago. The first day I installed ice cream sandwich, the March 19th ICS CM9 Kang ROM, everything was running excellent and smooth. Last night, before going to sleep I plugged it. This morning i press the power button and it wakes up, but after 2 minutes of use the screen started to flash in gray tones, I though it had crashed and reboot it(press the power button for 25 secs), after I turn it back on it shows the FIREFIREFIRE triangle for 1 sec and started to flash this awful gray screen. And after that it didn't show any image, the back light turns on but it doesn't show nothing.
I know its booting into ICS because I still get the email alert sound.
I'm thinking on returning it as i bought it at a local walmart. I'm just concern about the fact its flashed to ICS. I know the way on how to take it back to stock, the thing is i just can't see anything on the screen and I'm not sure if the touch sensors still work.
Also when i plug it to the pc and run the KFU it show the status as offline and the power button turn orange.
I really don't know what to do right now, i guess it's just bad luck for getting a defective one. Any tip, advice or suggestion will be appreciated.

OK, plug kindle into computer, go to cmd, change directory to android-sdk/platform-tools, type:
Code:
adb
adb remount
adb devices
then your kindle serial should popup in cmd... report back and I can help.

I did that but when i type remount it says "error: device not found" and on adb devices it doesn't show any device. :/ Is the any other possibility?
PD: The touch screen is working, and I wanna try to do the stock restoration through the kindle. Right now i'm able to unlock to the main screen. I just need to mount the usb storage to copy the official update in the kindle's sd card root and then try to restore using TWRP it being blind wow. Any other ideas?
PD: How can i check if the drivers are working properly?

-locked screen on portrait mode.
-screen when you plug your kindle to your computer and it ask you to mount as USB massive storage on portrait mode.
I will try to restock it this way cuz i already tried with the KFU drivers and is not working and i dont know if i have adb enabled on the kindle.

Sure can bud... Here is a link to my guide that you should follow.... If you did you would not have this problem. There are two ways that you can fix it manually and automatically. The automatic way was just updated onto my guide today but is for windows only. The manual way is right under that update for individuals that want to do it to understand things better or on a different os on their pc... Good luck and if you have anymore problems, you can feel free to pm me and I can either walk you through it on irc or teamviewer....
DONT FORGET TO HIT THE THANKS BUTTON IF I HELPED YOU PLEASE!!!!

Which version of kindle fire utility did you use? You have to be sure that it is ver.0.9.1 because the version before that there was a problem with the twrp file in older versions of the kindle fire utility.
Also are you sure that your battery was charged before you started to do this?
Like I said if you continue to have problems I can get on teamviewer with you and show you how to reinstall the drivers manually so that you can access your adb shell to change fastboot. Just pm me if you have anymore problems and need someone to do it for you..
i used the last version of kindle fire utility 0.9.1 and the battery was charging, I believe that now is completely discharged
I'm installing latest version of Windows XP on vmware, if you want to help me after I would be grateful...

I sure will make sure that you get teamviewer if you do not already have it. When you are using windows xp make sure your .android folder is in the proper place
C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\
Just making sure that your .android folder is in the correct place. It should be though if you installed root and android market already though.
nothing, now the kindle fire don't start enymore i think the battery is over.....

I have same problem and I was tried all knowed "guides and How to" for unbricking my Kindle Fire... . But solution is so easy!
Let's try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1428428 ... choose option 1-Stuck at boot logo... and after that when the app ask you "Does you have FIREFIREFIRE" reply no... .
I must use this app twice because at first try app doesn't do anything... . But now my Kindle finaly works!
tobias,
io ho il tuo stesso problema: hai risolto??? Se si mi dici cosa hai fatto?
Hi there i have a rotted kindle fire with burrito root.
I rooted it yesterday and everything was fine, then i turned it off and back on later it worked fine.
the next day it hangs on the boot logo (it is animated no triangle)
adb recognizes it yet i cant access adb root, remount etc Permission denied.
I cant install TWRP
What i wanted to do was go to the /sdcard directory and push the update.zip there. but i cant because it read-only. How do i change any of these? Ive read 6 other posts on possible fixes none of which work.
Have you tried pressing the power button for 20 seconds and then restarting it?
nope
Yes i did that does not help.
adb says it cannot be root in production builds. I looked up how to do it but its either vague or makes no sense or does not work. why is it a production buold? it didnt do that when i rooted my fire in the first place so why is it doing it now?
What i believed happened is that when i went to past the andoid market's vending.apk into the system/app folder it deleted all of the things in the folder and nothing worked not even the GUI. I hard reset and then i got stuck at the logo. Dont know if that would clarify anything
that clariefys a lot - if you messed up your /system this should help you:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1414832
then you should be able to install twrp
hopefully ...
Thanks but that did not help. It isnt recognized in adb like that.
Can you get into recovery? When you boot it up do you see FireFireFire at all?
No it says KindeFire and its animated.
sorry but i think you'll need a factory cable to get in fastboot mode
you'r not the first one ...
I have a micro usb and it works to connect (well until i followed that link and followed the instructions )

i think you did'nt understand what a factory cable is
it's a special cable which forces the kf in fastboot mode
you can build or buy one
make a search for "factory cable" and you'll know ...

I was rooted, just stock though, use BurritoRoot. Also had TWRP working fine. I tried several times to install MoDaCo Custom ROM for the Kindle Fire but it would just throw me into a bootloop at the Kindle Fire splash screen, couldn't get it to work. Someone suggested that I unrooted back to stock and started over.
So I followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399072
Now I'm stuck at the "Kindle Fire" splash screen, been sitting here stuck for 10 minutes now and still going. Anyone to get out of this? Oh and while I'm sitting here stuck at the splash screen, my power button is still orange, if that means anything to anyone?
I also still see "android phone" in device manager and it says my drivers for it are installed correctly.
EDIT: I have KF connected to my PC, when I type in "adb shell" I get this now:
c:\>cd android
c:\Android>adb shell
adb server is out of date. killing...
* daemon started successfully *
- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) -

I also tried following this:
I have also heard of the problem with some people getting caught in a boot loop and see a constant Kindle Fire boot screen. To fix this you must open up your cmd and type:
fastboot -i 0x1949 oem idme bootmode 4000
fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot

But when I type in "fastboot -i 0x1949 oem idme bootmode 4000" I just get this, doesn't do anything?

i did message him a bit ago, just waiting for his reply.
Make sure your computer is set up properly to read your kindle...the easiest thing to do is download Kindle Fire Utility, extract it to your desktop, navigate to the tools folder within the Kindle Fire Utility folder, hold shift while right clicking and select open command prompt here. Once the window opens up, try the commands over again where you push the fastboot file and then change the permissions.
Adb shell (press enter)

So are threads like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399072
just bad advice? Or is there some inherent risk in flashing or removing any recovery?
bad advice ? don't know - it is written in the title what happens
i think this is for people who want to return the kf to amazon and mostly it works.
if i want to keep my kf and have a working recovery system i would NEVER EVER flash the original stock rom from amazon
there are prerooted stock images available as i mentioned earlier
also a pure update version to 6.2.1 is available (i used it from 6.2 to 6.2.1 - very fine)
There sending me a knew one, I learned my lesson. I'll get more info before flashing. Well at least people know not to use that thread above. He should put a little warning in his thread so no one else gets my promblem.

Hi all, I have the same problem, while I was using TWRP I don't know how but I have bricked my kindle, now it is in "kindle fire screen boot loop", when I attach the kindle at computer it is seen, kindle fire utility say:
ADB status: online
Boot status: unknown
I tried to change boot mode from kindle fire utility and it reboot my kindle but in the same situation, so I try to make a factory cable, I connect the red wire with the connector that have not any wire (on the rear), as I read in some threads, but when I reboot kindle pressing power button for 20 sec, with this modified usb insert, and power up kindle....never happens and it still say "kindle fire"
sorry for my english and please help me
Hello,
I know there are many similar threads but i have a slightly different issue: I was editing /system/build.prop and did a reboot and i got stuck, right after the Kindle Fire logo pops up it goes black at the time the animation is supposed to start, computer reads it fine but ADB nor Fastboot will pick it up.KWRP also doesn't work, Any help?
IMPORTANT:
I have a backup of a TESTED and WORKING build.prop, if i can mount the Kindle in windows i will be able to apply the backup and fix it that way.
FYI:
I don't exactly care about keeping my data anymore, I just want it to turn on and be usable...
When you first try to power on the device and the amazon logo is still being displayed have you tried to get adb shell rooted or set it to recovery mode boot? Without the firefirefire bootloader it is going to be difficult to use adb unless you can at some point get adb to connect. Just out of curiosity, why didn't you also flash the boot loader instead of just flashing twrp? All I know to try is either kfu and keep hitting 0 to recheck device status and maybe you will get an Online+Rooted read out at some point before the system attempts to load & crashes.

I try to get into recovery mode, I'm not sure why i didn't use FireFireFire, this is my first tinker with an android device, I tried KFU from the instant i pressed power button to the black screen and its just unknown device. Is it broke for good?
I have a crazy idea and i have no idea if it will work, but it's worth a shot:
After reading the Kindle Fire breakdown, I think i can take the kindle apart and get access to it's internal SD, my questions is this: can I somehow plug it into a computer?

So KFU is reporting unknown device? Sounds like you need to install the kindle fire USB drivers again. Is this on linux or on windows? unknown device means that it is recognizing a device, just doesn't know what device it is.. You need the correct drivers installed for the Kindle Fire, be sure to re-install those and try again.
When I was stuck on Fastboot I just reinstalled the Drives and then changed the boot over KFU.

The fact that it goes black right after the kindle fire logo makes me think it's not stuck in fastboot (would be unlikely in a build prop edit) which is why you can't get fastboot to recognize; at the same time depending on where it's failing during the boot init adb won't load either.

First off; I seriously doubt you would be able to mount the sd from your PC properly. Rather than cracking the device I would try booting it from a factory cable, it should hopefully force fastboot mode at which point you should be able to resolve your issues.
I missed it I believe and just "fastboot reboot"
after installing twrp recovery in th 6.3 root by jcase.
Now I'm stuck at the yellow fire and adb does not recognize my device any more and fastboot says waiting for device.
Did leaving this line out brick it? I got too excited after seeing the recovery screen I must have missed the line. I'm scared to do anything. Please help.

connect it and hit normal boot in kfu and when it says waiting for device turn the kindle off by holding the power button then turn it right back on and it will connect during boot
KFU utility? or unbrick? I tried to use the utility to root option 2 but I believe I had the path wrong. I had adb set up correctly cuz it recognized my device and I made it all the way to flashing the recovery img.

Sent from my Hellfire Kindle using Tapatalk 2
i was rooting using the 6.3 method I made it through the first set of command lines. I installed the twrp.img. i saw it on my kf's screen. I got excited cuz I've been at it for a few hours typed fastboot reboot without the idme oem 500 something(sorry from memory I know thats not right) So the device rebooted into fast boot(yellow triangle with fire) and immediately tried to download drivers as the device was no longer recognized by fastboot(waiting for device) or adb (daemon started but no connected device) although after reinstalling the driver through kfu its now recognized in fastboot but not kfu. i think it has something to do with putting kfu in platform tools. So I know I'm not bricked just not sure where to start I'm gonna try the command line I believe I missed or a couple right before it.

i was rooting using the 6.3 method I made it through the first set of command lines.

OK cool so you have twrp and fff flashed.... do like I said before hook it up in kf utility hit the number for normal boot and it will say waiting for device.. turn your kindle off by long pressing the power button and then turn it back on and it will connect and switch to normal boot wile the kindle is turning on
if our using just adb in a command promp type this
fastboot -i 0x1949 oem idme bootmode 4000
fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot

Thanks for the advice. The problem was I had the wrong path for kfu. I have rooted an Evo an epic and my transformer all fairly easy. That actually took me around 4 hours. I really should use adb more. That was my sister's KF I was rooting. I couldn't stand to see her using it stock like that. I got Hell Fire up and running. Thanks for trying to help.
