Hi there,
I am currently on Dorminax's 3.1.2 NAND ROM and loving it, but there is one problem that seems to plague me. I use microsoft exchange for my University emails, and every ROM I have used seems to have the same problem.
The roms are usually very snappy and have quite good battery life. But literally as soon as I enable my microsoft exchange email account, they become sluggish and the battery drain is very excessive.
I have sync set to every 15mins, (Which is the same for my gmail and hotmail, which do not cause battery drain).
I just wanted to know if this is a common problem, or if there is something I can do to stop/help this?
Thanks in advance!
I am using a sense ROM and don't have any problems of sluggish performance although battery life i can't be too proud. Why not try setting to sync to maybe every hour. You could also try setting to sync email to 3 days as opposed to the whole server. Try also limiting the email size to small like 5kb and when you want to read a specific email then the phone will download. Hope this helps.
For battery i use Juice Defender free on google's play shop. I set everything to bare minimum. I read email only when i want to. Battery could last up to 30h.
I didnt think about reducing the email size, thats a good one! Thank you!
I had similar problem, my fix is outlined here:
http://avpaul.blogspot.ca/2012/03/exchange-battery-consumption-on-android.html
With email i never use push mail. It's drain a lot
when I want to read an e-mail, I turn on the data and sync manually (I have 5 account ). one Exchange, three imap and one smtp
PS : When i leave the data on. Automatique sync is every 1 hours

Hey everyone. I got rid of my Jasjar and bought a hw6945 which I'm much happier with. Even though it has a smaller keyboard and smaller resolution screen, it still does exactly what I need it to do in a much smaller and less complicated package than the Jasjar. I was also getting sick of the battery issue. Alas, this section is for the "Sable" and so I'll stick to talking about that and not bashing the Universal.
A lot of times as I'm writing text messages or e-mails, it'll pop up a random "BUSY" icon even though there's no other program running in the background - not even any connections using any of the radios. Why does it do that? The jasjar didn't. Anybody?
In ActiveSync, set the PPC to sync every 30 minutes and every hour during off hours. If you leave it set at "when items arrive" it will maintain a gprs or edge data connection all the time and that kills the battery.
I get 4 days of standby and light use now. I used to get 24 hours.
If you are using microsoft push to deliver messages then I think you have to leave the setting as "when items arrive".
We are using push at work, but I find I certainly don't need my new messages faster then 30 minute intervals.
Hey, thanks for the post. I actually just figured it out myself last night as I was playing with activesync. : )
Since I'm not a push user, I really have no need for automatic sync. By default, it keeps trying to sync when there isn't even a server there. What I had to do was open up activeysnc from the HP, create a fake server and fill in the fields with dummy info, go to the schedule options which are only available when you have a push server (hence the creation of a fake one), pick manual for everything, and then delete the dummy server. That's it. I have't gotten my initial problem since. I also think this might be a common issue for ALL WM5 devices?
Anyway, thanks for the reply. : )
Ya, I read that about the fake dummy account so you can access the manual activesync settings.
The battery life is now "livable" which it was not before. I am going to get the 25% larger capacity battery for it.
Wish someone would do some development on this model. It is actually very nice and if someone would create/modify some of the software for it and make it better, it would be amazing!
I am a bit confused so hoping somebody can help me out, I have updated to davideuck V3 rom and I know that the ROM only runs activesync when required. I have also read in a few threads that activesync does something with email and it may be the cause of my problem.
Basically before I updated from stock rom my email was set to sync every 30mins which it did as long as it is not in standby,so if I used the phone after one hour this caused the emails to sync as the phone is out of standby. Now the only way is to manually go in and click send/recieve.
I would love to get it working even in standby but want atleast to get it to check when phone is active.
One other thing I have noticed is that when I click email there are 3 email envolopes even though I only have 2 accounts setup, clicking the first envolope does nothing the other toggle between my 2 accounts.
<little rant>I am a bit dissappointed with the phone as it seems like a mega task for it to do basic things like my n95 would do. Hope HTC or MS pull their finger out and fix some of the basic functions. </little rant>
Thanks in advance
Sully
Got it sorted not sure if it hard rest or flashing a newer radio. The phone now checks email even in standby
Hey guys,
I am having this really weird issue with my email (which is Yahoo mail). I would initially set up my email as usual, i.e. by entering username and password and let it do it's thing.
I had setup my email settings as "download messages for the past 3 days" but for some reason after leaving the phone in sleep mode for several hours (i.e. overnight, while charging or unattended at work), it will then start downloading everything in my inbox under yahoo mail which is around 3,5xx emails without me knowing! and then the phone will start to become very very sloooow... having manila running 90-95% at all times, (my observation) apparently windows mobile email is trying to sync everything from the inbox (after finish downloading) to HTC sense which is causing a Big Slowdown! which is i think the reason why manila runs at 90-95%.
this has been an issue for me since i bought the phone, so i always end up deleting the account on the phone so it'll stop the sync to HTC sense and stop manila from running 90-95%.
It is very annoying and i was wondering if there is anybody over here has experienced the problem and solved it?
i have also tried upgrading my rom to the current european 1.6x but no luck and still acting the same. I just don't want to stop using the email that i've been using for the last 9 years just because of this.
I will greatly appreciate any help.
Anyone>?????? anybody??????? i am sure some of you uses yahoo mail.
just wanted to find out, if anybody is under the same situation when using yahoo mail!
thanks
How did you add your account in the first place? You should just enter your email address and let the HD2 setup automatically.
I guess you setup pop3 instead?
I'm facing the same issue. I went to HD2 email setup, entered the email address, password and used the default yahoo settings which HD2 suggested.
For the first 2 days I kept getting all new emails. However on the 3rd day overnight it downloaded the whole yahoo mailbox with over 2500 emails. Had to delete the account and add it back a couple of times, but the issue keeps recurring.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong here. Is there any setting I need to change to prevent this from happening?
Chaps,
Don't know what settings you are using for Yahoo but if you want to restrict how many emails get downloaded to your device then do the following:
On the device go to Inbox>Menu>Tools>Options>Email Account (whatever you have called it). Tap on that and then tap on Send/Receive schedule.
Form here you can set the frequency of updates and how many days worth of emails you want downloaded onto the device.
Hope this is helpful

This issue also exists on my Raphael. Started a few months ago for some reason.
No matter what you set your retention limit to (3 days, 7, etc) it always tries to pull everything and bogs the phone done like crazy. Last time I wiped it, it was set to 7 days and it had email dating back to Jun 09.
Any idea on a resolution? as it seems to be affecting various devices.
up to now, i am still experiencing this problem.
i have tried everything.. i.e. hard reset, flashing to duttys holy grail v.05 rom and after setting up everything, it will still the same issue.
this issue only applies to yahoo mail.. i never had issues with gmail.
i wonder if it's because i am not using mail plus which requires a monthly fee and benefit you to use outlook using forwarding.
i never had this issue wih the iphone, although if you search yahoo, they specifically support iphone and blackberry only and regular mobile phones.
i have this problem too. i think its has something to do with Yahoo POP settings rather than our device. Gmail has a much more advanced mail settings than Yahoo. The gmail (IMAP) which is free is much better than yahoo plus (POP).
delete the accoun and wehn setting up again choose advanced settings you will find what limits this things
Same problem here
Hello, I have this problem in my Touch Pro 2. Haven't found a solution yet but I think the problem is at yahoo mail b/c i have used other imap and pop emails w/o having this behaviour.
It's probably some maintenance yahoo does to their servers that changes each mail datetime and thus, the WM mail client bring all inbox items and the phone gets freezed.
If someone find a solution for this issue please let me know.
regards,
Yasel
Same problem...
I am seeing this for my Yahoo mail on my Imagio also. It doesn't matter what the settings are, every few days, my entire inbox starts downloading (10000+ messages) causing the phone to hang & requires a hard reset.
Has anyone found a fix?
crude workaround
weird, this has started to happen to me on my tp2 in the last couple of weeks, maybe yahoo is doing something to different servers on a rolling basis.
Until it's fixed I've set up a folder within yahoo via my pc where I've dumped all emails over a couple of weeks old. I haven't synced my phone with that folder so myinbox is limited to a couple of hundred mails at the most. Once the issue resolves itself I'll put them back.
I've been searching for ways to help with battery life and did the whole cdma network change thing. What about sync settings --> Accounts & Sync ? I couldn't find a way to change the frequency. Anyone know how often it syncs with google and if you could change it to once every 3 hours or something?
So gmail uses whats called "Push" email for Android.
When your phone boots up, it screams at the server that it is awake and here are my credintials, give me whats mine. The email server decides if a sync is necesarry and does it if so. Now, in lots of cases this connection is over with and would normally close off the port.
HOWEVER in the case of PUSH email, the port stays open - this means there is constantly a line of communication between the Gmail server and the phone. When ever something happens on the server end Gmail yells at the phone and says hey catch - kinda like the peanut guy at a baseball game - any how, The server does all of the "Stuff" in this case. It is one of the reasons that when you get a gmail (in my case at least) there is only about a 15 second delay of it hitting my phone.
SO answer to your question is - No, there is no "Schedule" to modify. The server pushes mail or differences when it notices them.
NOW onto my question -
IF ANYONE can figure out how to make Exchange email ONLY sync to my phone from 5pm-7am - You would be the most AWESOME person alive.
Hi. I've just started using a Google Nexus 7 using jelly bean (4.1.1) and I have not rooted the device. So far so good except for the Exchange email client. I've set up the account and all seemed to be working fine and then I went out of the house... and I started to have some problems. Two problems: 1. Replying, in spite of checking the "include quoted text" button the replies did not include the quoted text. This happened when I wrote the email when I was either offline or tethered to my mobile's wifi hotspot when on a train. The connection was probably poor and this may have been the issue but it was a bit worrying - especially as a couple of emails went to clients and made no sense without the original text being included. 2. Emails I deleted from the inbox when offline.were deleted from the tablet inbox, and when I synced, remained deleted, but did not delete from the inbox of other exchange devices (my mobile and my pcs/laptops). I reinstalled and that solved the reply issue. But still I have found, if I delete emails when offline, even when i do a full sync when online, they remain in the exchange inbox (pcs/laptop/mobile/outlook web access) but they are not in the tablet inbox and even when I resynchronise the tablet, the inboxes don't match between tablet and other devices. All the other devices, the inbox matches when they are all freshly synced.
I am deeply fed up about this. The tablet's been great but I feel like I've just gone back 6 years to dodgy exchange syncing. I have run exchange on my android v2.2 htc desire for a couple of years without issue and it's been a joy.Hoping someone may know what I can do,re. fixes, or even who at android/google/asus I should tell/might provide a fix. I want to avoid rooting and I know about touchdown but would prefer to work with the native email client to save on space and I've used touchdown before and found it unsatisfactory for my needs. Any help and advice would be appreciated. I'm not a developer but I'm a savvy user and can follow instructions well!
I've googled a lot in the last few days and though I've seen lots of talk about faillure to set up Exchange in the first place, I've not seen this issue yet. But I think I'm probably one of the earlier users of exchange on this device. It seems unlikely but I suppose possible it's just me but perhaps someone can tell me about that too. Could it just be my version of active sync/jelly bean/google nexus that has this issue!?
Thanks for any help.
Same problem here. Just did a bunch of email on an airplane and after landing, connecting to wi-fi, and syncing, none of the changes were synced to my laptop or even to the hotmail web client. I really hope someone has a solution to this as it is really unacceptable.
same problem
I have the same problemwith my nexus 7 (v2):
I reply to an email and I check "include quoted text" and this part is not sent.
any ideas? This concerns only emails received via my exchange (corporate) account.
