[solved] brigthnes levels - Nexus One General

i see lot's of screen shots of the cyanogen brightness settings were the ligth sensor in at levels such as 30, and the screen level is configured to level 1 or 5.
mine, the sensor is always >200 and the screen level can't be lower than 35 (if i type 5, after clicking OK, it became 35)
is that normal? anyway to make the screen darker?
also, i assume the button light can't be changed right? because it does not change on mine at all.

Is this on CM7? There's a setting in there to set the lower limit, Screen Dim Level as far as I can remember. Its probably set to 35 hence you cannot set it any lower in levels. Set it to something lower like 1
Then go into "Edit Other Levels" and set your various levels in there. You can set the button setting to 0 for off, or 255 for on.
The Nexus One actually has 9 different levels for the light sensor, so you only need to set values for these.
10 - 160 - 225 - 320 - 640 - 1280 - 2600 - 5800 -8000
HTH.
PS this is one of the very useful options I really miss in ICS ROMS!

Backlight on 614c

Hi,
there are 5 levels for the backlight.
I see a clear difference going fromn 1 to 3 but no difference when I go from 3 to 5.
Any of you experienced this ?
Another question:
The power-setting management is such that the backlight is reduced after some time. If I am on level 3, the backlight is reduced automatically down to a light intensity, which corresponds to a level of 2. Why not 1 ?
Nonody ???
Nobody ??? (sorry)

i'm playing with some REG value and remembered your question
here is a nice one
open a REG edit
then go
HKCU/control panel/backlight/
edit the value of "max brightness" from 4 to 8
you will get more levels of brightness and if you keep it low but good for your use it will save battery
the jump between level 2 to 3 is still strong but not as much as …

Thanks for the answer. I will try .
thanks EREZYAD, made the changes and it gave me the extra settings, but the jump is very small, so i went back to the default settings.
One thing i noticed though is even the lowest setting is rather bright. is there a way to make it darker?
my ipaq 6828 when set on the min setting was almost black.

HAVING MORE LEVELS IS GOOD FOR MIN LIGHT - BATTERY...
On my HP 614 all screen off programs just blank the screen, but backlight is still on in this low level 1 (or 2). Also when I configure in setting switch off backlight after 30 seconds, it will not switch backlight off, but to low level.
Why is that? Normally it shut be completely off, both - screen and backlight.
I was told on HP support that's a feature. But I'm sure it's bug.
yeah the back light stays on just the screen "displays" a black image
you can see the back light shining around the edges and the screen looks more grey than black.
I dont think you can ever switch of the backlight without pressing the on/off button
Have a problem with my 614c, when is charging, and display goes off after some time, it wont go on when i press the display button, just keyboard lightens, display goes on when i unplug it from power
i have not seen that happen to me.
its not the slide show but with no pics so it showing a black screen right?
Maybe a hard reset (backup ALL data first) ?

CM6 light sensor levels discussion

What are your observations, settings, and thoughts about tweaking CM6's light sensor levels?
(Settings > CyanogenMod settings > User interface > Automatic backlight > Edit other levels...)
Observations...
I've noticed that the sensor seems to only pick up light levels only at specific intervals (raw values, not filtered)... for me that was 160 (never went lower), 640, 1280, 2600, and 10240.
When it comes to lowest level the sensor reads it isn't really that low. I can be sitting at my lightly lit room or in complete darkness and 160 is the reading I get. Also, the highest level the sensor reads isn't really that high. I can be standing outside on an overcast day or in full sunlight and 10240 is what I get.
Thoughts...
Basically, given the observed intervals above, I have been trying to find a reasonable screen brightness at each level, where the screen is bright and doesn't appear washed out, but isn't unnecessarily bright either.
What is the lowest screen brightness that looks descent when the light sensor reads 160, 640, 1280, etc?
Where I'm at...
upto 160 - 35
upto 640 - 50
upto 1280 - 75
upto 2600 - 100
upto 10240 - 125
I really would like to tweak the higher levels, but I'm having a more difficult time finding lighting that is in those ranges. I also setup the power control widget to toggle the brightness between Auto>Dim>75%>100% to cover the lower light levels not picked up (below 160) and the higher levels not picked up (above 10240).
Observations? Settings? Thoughts?

CM7 Automatic Backlight Settings

Just wondering what settings (other than default) CM7 users are using for their automatic backlight. I've been experimenting for a couple days and have settled for this... for today at least.
Light sensor filter: Enabled
Window length: 20s
Reset threshold: 800 lux
Sample interval: 2s
Screen dim level: 10
Edit other levels...
Lower 0, 50, then 100-3000, increasing by 100's (32 total levels)
Screen 10-175, increasing roughly by 10's
Allow light decrease: Enabled
Decrease hysteresis: 80%
I'm looking to get a smooth(er) transition from each level. A fading appearance rather than a "hitting a light switch" appearance.

Lowering Brightness

The "low" brightness is way too bright for me. Microsoft is nice enough to introduced 30 levels of volume but offering just 3 levels of brightness is pretty dumb.
Anyways I was looking through registry hack and I found the MinBrightness and MaxBrightness setting. Originally I set it to "manual" and "low" in the brightness setting. Then I checked the registry and the Min and Max is 0 and 19 respectively.
I changed the Max to 0, and it APPEARED to be dimmer than before. I went back to the Setting -> Brightness and now my brightness level is shown as "Medium", Auto adjust set to off. Both of them are grey out so that I cannot change it, I supposed the setting screen read an unsupported combination and freaked out. I wonder if anyone else tried this, or this is just my placebo effect?
I thought I was the only one having this problem.
Hopefully there will a solution regarding this issue.
I wonder if I can use privacy screen to lower the brightness, or even those tinted window screen from home depot.
So where to tweak this in registry?

[Q] automatic backlight works only with max. 6 levels

hello, I'm using CM10 quarx ROM from 9.4.2013 (this one) and I have problems using more then 6 auto backlight levels. When I set the number of levels higher than 6 levels the display brightness won't change to this setting, e.g.
level 6: 4000 - 4001 200 0
level 7: 4001 - ....... 240 0
Means within the full sun (sensor level over 9000) backlight wont change from 200 to 240. The same problem do I have with more then 7 levels. All settings between level 1 and 6 are working fine, all other levels above will be ignored.
Here is mentioned that it's not working at all with all CM10-ROMs. It's fixed in CM10.1 ROMs. But I could edit a xml-file, to enhance the backlight steps manually. Do somebody know which xml-file I have to edit to reach my goal? What's the name of the file and where can I find it?
