I believe he either does not have a qualifying upgrade or does not want to buy it on contract however wants the phone in which case your best bet would be the waiting game on craigslist or ebay.
I'd advise against Craigslist or Ebay. I had to get two replacements from Best Buy before I got a Nexus S that operated normally. If you get a phone off Ebay or CL with an unresponsive back button, you're stuck with it or you've got to sell it and try again.

You don't need to qualify for upgrade of contract you can buy "unlocked"
Forgot OP price probably included sales tax
no sales tax here

I agree, I never buy things off ebay for that reason but at least with Craigslist he can try the phone before buying it (or at least you should always try before you buy, if they won't let you don't buy it).

Again, I'd say play the waiting game with Craigslist. What phone do you have now? Might be able to sell it and get some money for that and cut the cost of the Nexus S down. Alternatively, there are other phones out there that are cheaper off contract will function just as well.

580 is NOT bad when you compare it to other smartphones with no commitment pricing. $20 cheaper than a iPhone 4 actually.

I wasn't elible for an upgrade when I got my phone. This is the first I've bought my phone out right at full price. I tell you, it sure feels good, I don't have to worry about extending my contract and gives me more freedom. Get the nexus s, you won't regret it

If you buy the phone full price, your service is $20/month cheaper (Even More Plus plan instead of Even More plan).

yea i am buying it tomorrow brand new out of the box for 550
the SNS I9020 is actually over priced if you ask me
the SGS I9000 brand new street price is only $499
basically $30 less
but it comes with way more stuff than the SNS I9020 ($529)

I have both of those phones.
If I could only have one, it would without a doubt be the Nexus S.
I paid almost $700 for my i9000 last July.
Here's some math to help you feel better about buying unlocked.
If you were able to buy it at the discounted price, your total cost of ownership would look like this:
$199 Nexus S + extra $20/month over 24 month Even More contract = $680
If you buy it unlocked, your total cost of ownership looks like this:
$529 Nexus S, no contract on Even More Plus = $529
Even if you're on Even More right now, you also qualify to drop it down to Even More Plus if you're more than 12 months into your contract. So it may look like it's a lot of money up front, but you're saving more in the long run and won't be under contract.

Lapdock now regularly $299 at AT&T stores

Jes' sayin. Went effective May 1st.
Picked mine up Monday. It wasn't worth $500. I ended up paying just over $200 with discounts and credits applied. That was worth it.
Yes, but the unanswered question is IF you buy the lapdock from the AT&T store or online-store do they force you to buy the datapro 4G wireless tethering plan?
It's unclear, especially when speaking to AT&T store workers or online-store workers via chat -- they both seem to tell people that $299 price (with the $100 Visa Debit card mail-in rebate) is only good IF you sign-up for the wireless tethering plan.
Hmmm this almost makes it worth it. But you can still get a netbook for around $300 plus tax and still tether it for free (with the right hacks). This thing is damn sexy but I don't know if $300 is quite low enough for me.
AT&T sent me a 25% off coupon towards an accessory order not too long ago...maybe with one of those this would be a sell.
When I first saw that thing when i got my antrix i laughed a bit, a dock to hook up your phone to and use it a as a desktop wtf? But i suppose for some this may be cool, but i have enough computers as it is, I couldn't see using this unless I didn't have a desktop.
Anyone have it and really like it?

I bought a car dock using one of those 25% off coupons after I tried to see if it could be used on the lapdock, but no go. IIRC, it would only take off the 25% from the $499 list price on the lapdock.

Were you eligible for the rebate as well? If so, did that make the net cost 125$? I'm thinking $300-$75 for 25% off - $100 rebate.

best buy question

So i just returned my TF201 to best buy (so many issues )
and theyve stuck me with a 500$ best buy gift card and im looking to buy the N7 tablet and best buy doesnt have it yet:good:
So now im wondering what is my best option, wait it out for best buy to possibly never get the n7 in the US, or sell the gift card on ebay for a slightly lower price and buy the n7 from google, or some other option i dont even know about.
please and thanks for the help.
Why did BB stick you with a gift card? Were you past 30 days?

You could try calling their corporate customer service number and see if they plan to get it. I wouldn't sell the card on eBay. Not only would you lose money on reducing the price, but their fees have gotten stupid (just sold a phone for $150 and was charged a $15 fee). Maybe try Craigslist. Then you at least get cash in hand. If you lived in MN I would buy your card. I shop at Best Buy often anyway. LOL
Anyway...that's my advice.

im not a huge fan of craigslist, ebay seems a lot more secure so ill probably just take the fees for the security of it.

More secure than cash? I mean you would meet them in public for sure...probably at a BB store so they can verify the amount on the card.

My friend and I ran through selling gift cards we acquired for various reasons, and nothing beats http://www.cardpool.com/ in terms of cash return. According to their website, they'll pay you $440 for a $500 gift card.

Can you afford to hold onto the gift card? Your best bet is to buy the nexus and hold onto the card for future use. I don't think they expire.
Well in Canada, our Best Buys have models on display but none in stock, so I'm sure they'll have it just later.
Why don't you buy $500 worth of Amazon Gift card? I am sure Amazon will sell the N7 soon.

I doubt it. I preordered from Best Buy because I have the $50 off deal they were offering earlier this year for activations. I'm not sure how much I'd use the media link, but $50 cash in my pocket versus a device I can get a different one for cheaper. I would be interested to hear if they give it to you though

When I went to the BB Mobile store to get my boyfriend's new line on Verizon, they just gave me the option to "use the $50 gift card" toward my purchase of the phone, so I was able to get the price knocked down $50. May not be able to do it online, though.

If you registered your number earlier this year they will give you a $50 gift card you can use towards the phone. They don't give it until you activate though so it will come when you actually go to pick up the phone.

Price reduced to $299

The price of the Galaxy Note 4 has been reduced online to $299, from $349.
I had already pre-ordered at $349. I called about a refund of the $49, and I was told to call back when I received the device, and I would be given a $50 credit on my account at that time.

Hopefully Best Buy will follow suit and the final price on delivery will be $299..then take off a $200 trade-in...woo hoo!
Good to know, thanks. Never would have thought to check the price after I ordered the phone. Will call when I get it and ask for the same 50 bucks.
I just got off the phone with sprint. They are not making me cancel my order and reorder. They said they will credit my credit card the difference paid when I activate the new phone.

I stand corrected. Thank you!
I called order processing and asked for the $50 dollar refund on Saturday. The girl put me on hold for a while and then came back and said she would apply the $50 to my account. A half hour later I got a text saying the refund had been applied, checked and it was there. I am on SERO I don't if this made the difference.

Best buy note price
Anybody have any idea why the best buy price hasn't dropped to $299 like everywhere else?
Is Best Buy still doing the $200 trade in? I judt went to preorder and dont see it..

**Traded in my old HTC 8925, Sprint gave me $ zero, lol.. hope the Samsung program pulls through...
Something strange is happening to me on sprint.com. I try to do a pre-order, getting to the last part where I would charge my CC. but my total is $300 with only .65 cents in taxes. I'm in California and it should be $64. I already have an in-store pre-order and traded it my device in, but I am now pulling my hair why at sprint.com i'm not getting charge taxes.... 2yr renewal price!

Best buy has there own trade in program, it's different from the Samsung promo. You get a 200$ bb gift card for any working smart phone, and they say *any* smart phone, no 10$ minimum like Samsung promo. My friend is turning in an old Treo.
Also the Samsung promo will not be honored if note 4 purchased at best buy.
