[Q] Languages on Kindle Fire ICS Port - Kindle Fire General

A person from Japan asked me to find out if a Japanese language pack is available for the Kindle Fire running Ice Cream Sandwich. I have looked a few places and have not found anything. But, I didn't look all that hard.
Do any of you know the answer, or have a link to such?

I do not see Japanese in the standard ICS package.
There must be a package dedicated to Asian region.

[Q] CM7 / Amazon App Store download Kindle Fire versions?

I have installed CM7 and it is working great, however the Amazon App Store no longer recognizes that it is an Amazon Fire. I would like to download the Kindle version of a few games, is there a way to trick the app store to think it is the Fire again? I assume CM7 just thinks it is a generic gingerbread phone.
Thanks for any help.
You should wait for ICS. I say that only because the main dev focus right now is getting ICS (CM9) working correctly. After this is done there would be ways in tricking the App store into thinking it's a specific device. Though that would most likely break some of the apps from being downloaded from the Android App store. Guess it's a bit of Catch 22.
Once we have a fully working version on ICS, I plan on working to make this happen. However I just don't have the time right now with school and family to work on the OS development. Shame as I think it would be fun.
~enjoy for now.

[Q] Nexus Q in France

Hi Everyone !
First of all, I wish I will be able to explain exactly my questions (I'm French, so ...).
I ordered a Nexus Q on ebay. I have a google music account since the beggining, even if it's not open yet in France.
I'm really interesting by this little ball for music and youtube, and maybe movies.
I saw on the Nexus Q site that this is a World-ready 50/60Hz 85-265V AC input.
I want to be sure that I won't see the Nexus Q blow up with a simple adaptator. Or do you think it will be safer to buy a converter 110 - 220 V ?
I wish too that Jelly bean in France will have the new music app, and the Nexus Q app too (for the moment, I can't download it on the market.
Thanks a lot Guys for your answers !:good:
It will work. That is the beauty of new electronic devices. I travel around the world and now you only need a converter for the power outlet. The days of needing a voltage converter for electronic devices is gone. You will need to buy a plug converter that converts from the N. American/Japan style to French. This is what you need http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001ISR9B6/
Thank you for your answer !! Great news !
No adapter required
You don't necessarily need an adapter, just grab a standard figure-8 power cord and that's it.
I would've added a link to Amazon for that but this goddamn thing won't let me.
Yes, I think I will do that hleinone, because I have a plenty of these kind of cords.
Another question. Jelly Bean is not out yet on the Galaxy Nexus, so I don't think I will be able to use the Nexus Q ?
Moreover, impossible in France to download the Nexus Q app on the playstore. I tried the link on another post to install it, but it doesn't work. I am a little bit affraid to not be able to use it if I can't download the Nexus Q app ! :crying:
Power is no issue. But guys can you explain how to install Nexus Q app on non JB device?
I had to root a galaxy nexus and install JB.
If you're rooted, I guess you can use Market Enabler/Unlocker to install the Nexus Q app from the Play Store.
I download the apk, but impossible to install it.
I think I will wait for my Nexus Q, and if jelly bean isn't arrive on my phone, I will root it, install jelly bean and try with Market Enabler/Unlocker.
Thanks Guys ! But really, I don't understand why Google didn't put the app for all country !! Some of the people who were at the Google I/O are not American citizens !!
But, I love Google, so, I forgive them
I'm not sure it's country related issue.
I can download app from europe on JB just not on ICS
On the Play Store, I got this message :
"Samsung Galaxy Nexus
Impossible d'installer cet article dans le pays associé à votre appareil."
It means : Impossible to install this item in the country of your device
So, I think it could be a country issue. I will see what happen when I will receive Jelly Bean. I'm pretty sure I will find a way to install Nexus Q app thanks to XDA !
And I already download the apk (not working on ICS, but maybe on JB)
I got my Nexus Q at Google I/O, but I didn't install the app on my Galaxy Nexus or Nexus 7 before going back home to Denmark. Back in Denmark I get the same message as you whenever I try to install the app from Play Store "This application is not available in your country". I have JB on both my tablet and my phone, so getting JB will not solve the problem.
Let me know if you figure out how to install the app!
Thanks to GDI2290
http://db.tt/Gf1AZApt
I install this APK on my Jelly Bean Galaxy Nexus and it works perfectly with my Nexus Q (I'm French and live in France)
Have fun with your Nexus Q !
Is it so difficult to find us proxy server?

@unclesem: I tried proxies, but it didn't seem to work, but then again I didn't try that hard.

Reverend Kyle's Video Series for the Amazon Kindle Fire

I thought I would share this with the XDA Kindle Fire Community as well.
I've had my Amazon Kindle Fire for a while now, and I've decided it was time to see what kind of modifications I can load onto it. Since I have a Google Nexus 7 on its way, I imagine that a Kindle Fire loaded up with Jelly Bean might make for a decent comparison tablet.
In part 1, I started off by rooting my Kindle Fire and installing the Google market, or Play Store on it using the Kindle Fire Utility.
In part 2, I take it a step further by installing Teamwin's TWRP Recovery, and then using it to install Energy's CM9 ROM.
And finally, in part 3, I go for the gusto and load up Hashcode's Jelly Bean ROM. Very slick.
Overall, I am impressed with the Jelly Bean performance on the Kindle Fire, and I look forward to seeing it battle against my Google Nexus 7... once it gets here.
Please direct your comments and questions toward the REVTV Forums. I've created a brand new section specifically for the Amazon Kindle Fire and this new video series.
Enjoy!

It is very likely that Amazon has learned from their mistakes, and the next generation of KFs won't be as "easy" to crack. The Original KF forums are still just as active as they were before the 2nd gen devices came out, so I don't think there will be any shortage of development for either any time soon.

Yeah, but probably Amazon might be open development now. Most OEMs are now having Unlockable BLs. Hopefully, this is the same case for amazon. But that might not be a good strategy if they want to make money through the HDX. But let's accept it, things like the Amazon Appstore suck.

I have my doubts that they are open to development mainly because of the article posted in the HD 7” general forums, it said amazon was roughly breaking even on their kindle sales with appstore purchases and such. I hate to be pessimistic, but one can hope, personally I am hoping, think I'm going to see what I can find out about that processor.
Edit: hmmm well I looked it up online here, I don't see any mentions of security implementations, and as usual amazon seems to have slightly underclocked the processor, probably to give more battery lifetime or something. I find it interesting how this processor has the WiFi and Bluetooth and even the lte stuff all in one chip, and there is more than one model of the chip, they make models without lte, some with CDMA, and some with no support, so I'm guessing we might be seeing slightly different models across the devices for the lte versions. If this stuff is common, please excuse my ignorance, I'm more familiar with a PC processor than a phone processor. Interesting that this processor says it handles USB 3.0... Anyone find an article with some kinda security function that this processor might have? I couldn't find any on a basic Google search.

Hi guys, I've never used any kindle device before but the price and specs of Kindle Fire HDX got me all excited and I wanna buy it but in one condition and that is if it has Google Play. I hate Amazon Appstore it doesn't have 90% of the apps that Google Play has. What's the point of buying this powerful device if I can't play latest & greatest games and use different apps? I heard that kindle fire hd is rootable and can be converted to android? So I just wanna know if it's possible to could get access to all google play apps and games and play them on this device after it get released?
Thank You

No one is sure, until the device is released. There is Software Spec Sheet line around somewhere but until now, we got wait. We probably will be able to take root and android but that may take some time.

Probably, but it's a too difficult, and really the KF doesn't have the hardware you need for Fire OS. Its like trying to say a 1998 PC(No Upgrades) will be able to run Windows 8. Devs could port of but its too much work and not really worth it.

Fire OS 4.0

Amazon have release the new fire os 4.0 with the new kindle fire hdx 8.9.
Fire os 4.0 is based on android 4.4.
Do you think we will get this update as well?
According to an article over at arstechnica, we will (http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014...k-new-e-reader-beefed-up-hdx-tablet-keyboard/ ).
"Along with the new Fire tablets comes a new version of Amazon's "Fire OS," dubbed 4.0 "Sangria." Sangria is based on Android 4.4 KitKat and has little more than user-experience refinements. These include ASAP (Advanced Streaming and Prediction), which pre-loads content that Amazon predicts the user will play, as well as Smart Suspend, which detects when the tablet is not in use and turns off the Wi-Fi to save battery. The new version of the OS will ship on all 4th-generation Fire tablets and will be available to 3rd-generation tablets as a free over-the-air software update."

And if you read a little further, it says:
Amazon will continue to offer the Fire HDX 7 for $199, though it will not receive the 4.0 Fire OS update until "later this year."
So hoping that it comes sooner rather than later.
Won't be taking that update most likely. Gotten used to having Google services on my hdx and won't risk losing it until I know for sure if there's root
According to ever article I read, we'll absoultely get it. "In the coming weeks". Exciting!
