i plugged an external hard drive into my iconia to watch some movies and even after i removed it gallery/music is still showing files from the hard drive. i've tried various media scanners from the market, even cache cleaners, but none can remove the thumbnails. has anyone had the same problem? i'm on taboonay 3.0.1 btw
edit: i've used refresh @ gallery and rebooted, the thumbnails are still there
Settings-Apps-Gallerie-Clear cache/data should do it.
they're still there
anybody? i can't play my music nor view my pics properly. i don't want to format :/

so ive tried several diff folders and loc. to place my photos in so gallery will recognize them...no luck. can someone tell me where they have their pics stored so gallery will display them. also, how can i get my books covers to not show in my gallery...thanks in advance. and yes, i did search first.
Are you updated to 3.1? I actually have my images on my external sdcard, but in 3.1 theres a Pictures folder, an eBooks folder, etc...I can't remember if it was configured differently in 3.0.
Download sdrescan from the market and after transfering pics use sdrescan...my pics showed up after that.

Yeah... I'm on brd 3.1. ill try rescan..i had my pics in the pic folder but they aren't recognized. And my book covers are in my gallery too... gotta figure this out..
try this
First go to applications / all and find the gallery application. Clear data and force stop. Open the gallery and see if that worked.
If that doesn't work. go applications / all and find the media storage application. clear data. Then open the gallery. Fixed my weird gallery problems.
Just found out this particular problem a few days back. When I add new pictures or music to my tablet either in the tablet or the external SD card, it is not showing up in the gallery or the music player. The files however are there when i use a file explorer to view them. The images can be opened with the gallery or any other image app. Music files can be browsed using a file explorer and played with the stock music player or any other music player app. But it just doesn't show up in the gallery or Music player list.
I've tried refreshing the music library, have formatted my SD card but to no avail. Someone suggested to delete the .no media extension from the music player file, but that didn't helped too.
Any suggestions to this problem?
I had the same problem. You can try to delete the cache in settings/apps this should help.
However I found out the stock gallery sometimes takes VERY long to update pics on sd card. By very I am talking about probably hours.
Other gallery apps like "QuickPic" don't have that problem. You can try if quickpic works while stock gallery does not, then it is caused by the mentioned problem.

I tried deleting the cache, but it didn't work. So I flashed my device with the original stock rom. Only then was I able to get back everything. Thanks a lot for suggesting quickpix though. It's a wonderful app.
Try media fix from the market
I use fastreboot program, so that the gallery will refresh, OR you can try, go to settings>applications>manage applications>all then search for the gallery then tap on FORCE Stop, then try to open the gallery again, this should initiate the media scan. if all else fails, use quickpic app for pictures
If you have any trouble with media not showing up, clear the Media Storage data. Settings -> Applications -> All -> Media Storage -> Clear Data. It'll rescan everything properly after that.
Check for any hidden files called NOMEDIA
if put in a folder (no extension) the folder will not be indexed.
Useful if you dont want all the icons of an app indexed.
Media server was eating my battery and beacuse of that I cleared data and force closed media storage and rebooted.
Now the gallery is showing the DCIM in memory card but doesnt show anything else. After a reboot it started showing whatsapp images folder (weird) but still no other pictures and I had many folders like Galaxy Gear folder, a folder for slow motion videos I recorded etc.
Tried clearing media storage data, gallery data, reboot. Still no luck. Downloaded quickpic and everything is showing in quickpic but I want to use the stock gallery. I am so confused right now..
EDIT: HOOAH finally!
Did another media storage clear data + gallery clear data + reboot, I realized scrolling through every photo in a folder in Quickpic made the folder visible in stock Gallery.
I scrolled through all my photos and videos in Quickpic, now they are all visible in Gallery.
Hello everyone,
I am using G900F with Lolipop. I have realized that my saved photos from the web, which have .jpg extension, are not shown in the Gallery app. However, they do when I use ES File Explorer to rename the extension from .jpg to .JPG (upper case). In the mean time QuickPic shows both types just fine.
I love using stock apps, so I don't want to switch to 3rd party app like QuickPic. Does anyone have the same problem? How do you fix that? I would be grateful to know
first try to clear data of your gallery app and media storage .
or try to factory reset your phone it may works
Does clearing media storage clean up my data in internal storage (I have no SD card)? Just tried clean data of Gallery app but no difference noticed
Update: Did clear cache/data of Gallery app and Media Storage. After a reboot it showed the newly saved picture without the need to change extension. However, I tested by saving another picture, and it was still not automatically shown in Gallery I doubt a factory reset would do anything different >.<
Sometimes I add videos (usually shows and movies) to watch on my S7 Edge. I put them in a folder called "Videos" in the root of the microSD.
However, Gallery keeps mixing those videos with my personal photography... Therefore, I decided to hide them by renaming the folder to ".Videos".
Unfortunately, they still show up in Gallery, except grey and unplayable. I tried deleting them in Gallery, and clearing the app data, but neither works. Please help.
Got a chance to reboot and they're gone...
