Is there any way to make the volume buttons wake the phone from sleep when using Aurora ICS?
Look at this

Either that.. or you can do it manually, if you like to do stuff on your own.. you only have to edit 1 file and 2 lines
Search XDA, there are excellent tutorials.
Hehe, I knew there had to be a thread like that, just couldn't find it. Thank you! Worked like a charm.

Hi, do you have some news about waking up the Legend with the trackball? It is a little bit annoying to wake it up with power button and afterwards unlock the phone sliding your finger down. I am still searching for this feature across the internet.
If you will have some news or find a solution, please post it.
Nobody?

That's what I'm looking for too. Or anything else. Tap the screen and then slide unlock, or get rid of the unlock slide at all and use just power button etc etc. This HTC lock/unlock solution is just the worst one.
Hello,
I'm interrested in that too !
It is annoying to use the power button...
Any news yet ?
Thanks
hi yeah use No lock app
It simply disables the lock screen. Press the unlock/menu button just once and the screen turns on immediately.
I wrote a config file to unlock with menu and home button..
Trackpad button is different from others buttons! Kernel doesn't assign a code to trackpad.. I'm taking a patch from desire's forum and i'm trying to apply it to legend kernel..
instead of power button plus swipe, you can do power button plus menu button
i'm interested in this
Yes it works!
Root is needed and a kernel compiled by myself needed too..
(i add those patch http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=703539 )
No root necessary!
I just randomly came across this... Downloaded a free app called "No Lock" (BoD ) which obviously removes the lock from the screen, but it also enables any button including the track ball, volume keys, menu, search... (you get the point) to turn on the phone screen. Its up to you guys but since there is no hardware button for making calls I dont really see any problem with pocket dialing - just no lock Also, there are programs to solve that such as chompsms which lets you do pattern lock to use it...and there are others to cover all apps too. Hopefully this helps someone.
Sorry - Just saw a few posts down the same thing was posted. I guess I wont completely erase mine tho since I evplain it a bit more if there are noobs reading.
I dont have access to the market right now, can someone kind enough upload the APK for No Lock?
i really really need a way to wake up my legend with a key other than power as it is acting funny.
thanks a lot in advance...
Go here h**p://m.umnet.com/DownloadIt.aspx?__ufps=199075
If it is not working go here:
h**p://m.umnet.com/DownloadIt.aspx and then write the number "612674" and GO... there you can download the APK
Have fun...
Sorry for the **, but I can't put direct links as long as I have not 8 posts...
Here I have you the file... it is for free in the market anyway, so I am sure, that nobody minds me putting the file here...
im using no lock too but it only works with the power button? im on official unbranded htc froyo btw

Thank you guys! I really appreciate it
But unfortunately this doesnt work for me... I think on Froyo there is no way around this. as my power button doesnt always work im going to downgrade to 2.1 and then use a custom froyo rom with this ability or maybe just stick with 2.1 for the time being...
a little update on froyo!
it seems that when you are charging your phone and using a program to disable sense keylock you can wake up your device. so I think on froyo they have prevented other keys to have power and be active....

thats interesting and i can confirm thats how my phone is working too...i just prefer using any key to wake up so my power button doesnt die quicker than it would normally
mine now doesn't have a bar going across or something to drag down like iphone/htc sense - the whole image moves instead? seems very weird and would like to change it if i can?
i can't see an option to though. would prefer an pure android type of unlock method (with a custom wallpaper though). can i do this without rooting? want to leave that for a week or 2 to get used to the phone 1st
ta all
Look on the market .

And look for what? I cant find anything useful, like stock lockscreen.
Anyway, i think you need an update.zip for things like that.

i searched for " lock screen " and found something useful
lock screen
just use google there are endless possibilities
there is even a video WOW
i do have 'goto my lockscreen' or whatever it's called but a lot of these alternate apps have a major problem (or 2) in that they interfere with bluetooth and wake up on any button press.
that's not really useful
1. Get widgetlocker
2. Win!
3. ???

try widget locker
I use 'ripple lock' which is a honeycomb'esqe unlock screen.
It is good but relatively new so there is room for improvement. however, the developer updates it regularly!

Widgetlocker is very configureable and you can tell it to stop waking on certain button presses. I am currently using it here and it is pretty awesome.

Edite widget locker settings, if i'm not mistaking you can disable hardware buttons unlock
ta, but i already unticked everything i could under buttons and inputs but vol down e.g brings the unlock screen up when it should do nothing
think it's a limitation of android and can't really 'replace' the real lockscreen as such. maybe a version that requires root will do it, who knows.
at the very least this will cause battery rundown.
You are right. I missed your point. I was talking about unlocking. Device wakes up when you press the hardware buttons, but will not unlock with the settings i was talking about.
i missed that part of yours too.
ta for the help mate
Hi!
Now that the CM9-Alphas are out, there are MODs to get the on-screen buttons working.
I think we don't need them, because we could just use the search-softkey to display the recent apps list (holding down home is really annoying).
It doesn't seem to work to just change the key-event to APP_SWITCH, but there surely is I way I would like to find together with you.
Any ideas are welcome!
With CM9 only in the Alpha stages it just doesn't seem worth the effort yet, especially when holding down home is a very minor "annoyance" at worst. But that's just my opinion.
i would really appreciate that... would be a nice feature!
Keep checking out the changelogs for the cm9 kangs because they're slowly adding little tweaks
This was an amazing idea, can't wait for something like this to be implemented

I would use this. I found I used the recent apps button way more when I tested out the on screen key version of ICS, and it really helped move more quickly through things.
Hi
Is there a way we can mod a lib file or a keylayout jar to make Defy wake up on menu or home or search instead power.if anyone has some idea please share..appreciate it...i've seen desire brAvo buzz wildfire galaxy having that mod ,i'm sure defy can be modded too..
I've attached a file for htc buzz..can we make it something like it for defy
omg you're awesome..thanks...i hope u can make it work..
@spryte ..Thanks for your effort appreciate it..i did try to repack gets bootloop..so guess something to do with jordan layout on defy..
Walter quarx ..any modd's..dev can we add this feature wakeup the phone on home or menu Tab as de-pressing power button most time creates issues time after time I've attached the keylayout for htc buzz..if we can adopt this for jordan keylayout .it would be amazingly good...please look into it..m0d's & dev ..thanks again
no need to press anything to wake up device
hi...i am using a free app called "tap tap app".available free in market.been using it for months now without any problem.u just have to move/sway ur finger over the proximity sensor to wake up the device..no need to even touch the screen.in comments on the app in market it says it drains battery but for me its not significant...considering i dont have to press power button anymore.try it out .its the best solution to save defy power button.works better on froyo roms than on gingerbread ones
thanks much badshah puneet ..that did help.but don't we've some moddin through keylayout without messing with proximity sensor.hope some of the mod's can try.i did try the file posted by me for htc buzz by changing the jordan layout..had a boot loop.. ..hope walter or quarx or other dev can look into it..
Even i want something like that !
Touch Any capacitive key to wake. ... or Swype touch screen to wake

would be great to have this option
I am on LXdroid 0.2 ROM. 366 BB.
Rom running stable since it's release-
This week I observed the phone hung twice.
Today - after ride home - I saw- the back button didn't work!
I restarted - thinking of it as a bug!
Even then it was inactive- I pressed harder
And - it worked - sorta glitchy now.
Then - all three buttons failed to work after some time!
I pulled battery out- restarted - and again the back button was inactive.
__
I let the device go to sleep- woke it up.
And- all three buttons work nice!
No extra pressure- just like before!
__
Folks- am I seeing EOL of my device?
:crying:
I would want to stick to it - at least till Quadcores became the norm..
Please advise,
Sony.
P.S. No new apps or anything - in the last few weeks.
EDIT- Back button needs some amount of force! to be used now.

the phone is quite vulnerable if it is not inside something that protective... even so.. you might want to try this... just rub the capacitive panel for few minutes and then restart... that should do the job.. taken from _n0p_ advice...
Maybe you need a rom have capacitive button on status bar to reduce have to push phone capacitive button frequently

Have you tried using an app called button savior. Works like a charm

Just did exactly that ( hoping for some mumbo jumbo to happen ) expecting it to heal itself
For now - it has healed. :gulp:
Well- I use a silicone case- and I am sure it only sits in my (loose) pockets for 1 hour of commute.
rest of the time it is pampered in A/c environment and non-humind climate of my city.
Still - I will try to keep it cleaner.

Thank you all for such prompt help.
For now- it's working fine :fingers-crossed:
Cheers,

I'm working on one of cm7 rom from HD2 and HTC Desire, found that cm7 have softbutton on statusbar.
You can choose which soft button you want to show in settings/cyanogenmod settings/tablet tweaks.
I include in this zip file newer camera.apk, if you don't want it just open this zip file use winrar / 7 zip then delete it.
Remember, always nandroid backup before flashing anything.
Hope this can help save your capacitive button.

Superb!!!!!!
My cap buttons are fine for 2 days now! So - looks like that was just random.
But,
I am installing the zip and using these buttons as much possible!
Cheers to your efforts!
