[Q] Schedule an app to run and close per time? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm looking for a decent app scheduler that can run an app by a set timed schedule?
I'm looking to start this screen dimming app (super dimmer), by a set schedule, around 8pm and to turn off at 6am.
The app itself does have an internal scheduler, but it does not work correctly, but the app works exactly as I need.
So what do I need to do this?
What exactly am i trying to do?
Well, I like the auto dimming feature of my phone, however at night, I do not like the lowest default dimming setting, I am comfortable with a much lower dim setting that Super Dimmer can provide. I basically want it to activate at sun down and deactivate at sun rise.
I would be even more interested in adjusting the phones default dimming ratio, if that is possible, if I can control and lower the auto dim setting in phone, that is preferable.

Taskbomb task scheduler?

I did install taskbomb before writing this post, is that what I want to use? I just have no idea how to configure it.

Tasker is awesome. You shouldn't even need to use a secondary app with it.

Well looks like my idea did not work correctly. For some reason that program doesn't toggle on and off like I would need it to in order to work with taskbomber.
So this tasker app, does it allow for dimmer settings below the default android 0%? I'm looking for 200 levels.

I havent tried to myself, but it does have ability to ask for SU and device admin permissions so I bet it does.

I got it, tried it, it does allow for you to set lower than default values for some devices but for some reason it doesnt go as low as super dimmer did.......
Hmm I'm all out of ideas now!

[REQUEST] Custom Auto Brightness app

Okay, I don't know if this is the right place.. Or if it is currently even possible. (I know root isn't done or even close).. I figured development and this would be app development so it sorta works in this area.. But here's a little request for someone whose good with code and making apps:
But I want wondering if someone could create a custom auto brightness app that lets you set the max and min for the the auto brightness on the Incredible. I like the auto feature on the Incredible, but it gets way too high and drains the battery too quickly so I have to turn it off ..
So I would like to have an app that lets you set like EX: 5% as the minimum brightness and 40% as the maximum. Make it so you have have ajustable bars to move back and forth to pick your percentage or something along the lines of that. I think if someone managed to work some code and create this app it'd be heavily downloaded. So I was wondering if someone could make an app like this eventually in the future? Thanks again guys
Yeah, this would be cool. I am no developer, and there isn't anything in the market for this type if thing either, so i would assume it is really hard to do.
All you want it to do is be able to set the brightness? Just as a shortcut in a sense?
Dazzle is a pretty good alternative for the time being. hopefully someone can come up with something with something that does it automatically too.

(Sorry I'm Incredible53517 but I accidently had two accounts so we closed that one and now I'm just using my old one).
Okay, I want auto brightness but I want to choose how bright the phone gets bright and dim. I want to be able to set the max and min is what I'm saying and then have it automatically change by my surroundings...like the stock auto brightness does. I just think it'd be a nice features to have.. That's all. It'd save battery too.
This seemed like a good idea so I looked through the source code for Eclair and there doesn't seem to be any way to do this. All you can do is toggle auto brightness on or off and adjust the brightness when auto brightness is set to off. There is now way to cap the minimum and maximum brightness in the auto mode. Perhaps this is required by the hardware.
Sure, but couldn't you write a program to automatically adjust the brightness (with auto turned off within the OS settings) and set your own caps?
I'm not an Android developer, but this seems like it might be possible.
XC
I am only a noob dev myself, and I'm only seeing a way to set the brightness, not sense how bright it is (read from light sensor).

Okay, that's fine. I figured it would be hard since no one has really made it yet. But thanks for trying! I appreciate it!
if you use the android widget for... "power Control" it has all your stuff you like to turn on and off... wifi/BT/GPS/Sync/Brightness... if you tap brightness it goes from auto> full brightness> lowest brightness> back to auto... I didn't know this until I just started using the widget
the widget is included with the phone its not a download

Automatic brightness adjustment?

Anyone know if there is a way to adjust the automatic brightness function - i.e. have it still be automatic, but be a little bright or darker for a given ambient light?
would really like to keep using it, but want my overall brightness turned down. using manual brightness with widget for now, but don't see why automatic brightness could not be tweaked. tried searching for an app to do this, but have not come up with anything. nothing came up in a google search of xda either. anyone got anything?
I want to know as well, I wouldn't mind setting the auto brightness to be more fine tuned as well, smaller changes.
Yes a better working app is needed. something like My Light or Lumos for winmo

[Tutorial] How to reactivate autobrightness

I just played with the brightness of my Arc and noticed that the autobrightness was deactivated afterwards.
I downloaded a lot of widgets to set it back to auto, but it didn't work with a lot of them.
Then I finally found "widgetsoid" and that finally worked to set it back to auto.
So if anyone else has the same problem, here you have the right widget and don't have to spend time on finding the right app or widget.
Hope that helps you guys, because I found it beeing very annoying.
Regards,
Flo
In SE's Xperia line of phones, auto-brightness is ALWAYS enabled, no matter what you do (unless you run a non-stock custom ROM).
Try this, put the brightness slider around the 40% mark, shine a light on the sensor, if there's enough light, it will go to full brightness in no time. The same goes conversely.
And how to disable without use third part apps?
have anybody tried this app ? is it good ?
i read bad reviews like :
- unable to uninstall
- lag
- flood the widget list with so many stuff
etc etc
but it just reviews, so it might not be true, i don't know...
@ doomed and Lucas:
I just put the slider to max and then back down and it didn't work untill I set it to auto again with the app I mentioned in first post.

Widgetsoid is a fantastic program and works 100% with the Arc / Arc S
The auto brightness feature does work to a point, but you can also toggle 3 different percentages to suit where you are. I have mine set at 30%, 70% and 100%. You can also have a slider if you wish.
No problems at all with the app, although it's a bit complex to set up first time you won't be able to live without it in the end. Loads of options and configurations to keep anyone happy!

Auto brightness is disabled at the minimum and maximum point, only in the middle.
Ah, didn't know that.
In the middle it just worked a bit if even
After setting it back with the app I got it working again and I hope to have the stock SE setting back now.
I'm happy.
For people who get the same strange bug this might be usefull.

+1 for widgetsoid - I'm a long time user with my current Arc and previous HTC Desires and Hero phones.
As has already been said, its a bit complicated to set up initially but allows great functionality in a single widget.
Well worth a try.
i've been playing with it for a day now.
haven't check the auto-brightness feature yet, i downloaded this app at 6pm, so its already dark here. i've taken the arc on the street at night, and under room lighting, so far i think its always stay at 30% brightness. i'll see if this feature works under direct sunlight
there's a widget to view cpu temp and storage (rom,sd,ram) status now
just wondering, is there a way to make the storage status more accurate.
most the time, the ram status doesn't show the latest status. maybe there's a setting to make it check the ram status more uptodate

i have no idea about this. please explain it for me
The only thing I hate about widgetsoid is that you can't backup your setup, so if you do a Nandroid restore, you'll have to set up each widget again. I had about 8 switches, and then you have to choose a function, colour, opacity. Really sucks.

[SOLVED] brightness hack?

How can I decrease the minimum brightness? The fire simply does not get dim enough for me to read books in bed.
Fully rooted.
I sometimes reverse the colors so that it is white on black while reading at night.
Try useing Display Brightness v.2.2 (from RubberBigPepper).
It gives you far better control of brightness in 1% incraments and it can adjust the brightness to a lesser level then the KF controls allow. By it's measurmement the KF controls only scale from 11-100%, so you can definatly get the screen dimmer and save power. Best of all this program will work on Non-Rooted machines and thereby becomes a must for all KF users.
Look for it in the market place or other locations as a sideloaded APK.
Enjoy!
On a rooted device, you can also use AdjBrightness (in the Market) or my RootDim (in the Market, Appstore and here). Both are free and will let you go one step below what looks to me like the 1% minimum setting of Display Brightness, to 0.4%.
On a non-rooted device, you can also use my paid ScreenDim (in the Market and Amazon appstore), which adjusts brightness down 0.4% and also has a separate contrast control.
But if you want the on-every-screen adjust bar, Display Brightness is the way to go.
Awesome guys! Thanks.
Edit: I could not get RootDim to keep the brightness after exiting the app even with SuperUser privileges.. Display Brightness works like a charm!

Ran across the same issue. This solved it for me:
Screen Filter
(search android market, as forum won't let me post the link)
Works great!, and it lets you add a custom widget to the desktop to dim and undim with a single click.

You might try DisplayBrightness. It puts a custom slider that is available on EVERY screen to adjust brightness down to 1%.

I don't have a rooted Kindle, so I can't test it. Is Safe Mode off? Have you tried setting the lock in RootDim?
RootDim, AdjBrightness and ScreenDim (and I have tested ScreenDim heavily on the Kindle Fire) will get you to a slightly dimmer level (0.4%) than the 1% Display Brightness does, though that probably doesn't matter to you.

Yeah, I tired the 'lock' setting, but did not work.
Actually I was thinking that below 1% might be necessary for my needs. I'll check those apps out.
I recommend flashing cm7 and using rendering in settings menu for a nice Retro red or green monitor effect!

You can also get that with ChainFire3D on a rooted device.

Adjust auto brightness

Is there anyway to adjust the brightness level of the auto brightness?
My problem is as follows: to save energy I usually set the brightness to the lowest level. If I want to use the tablet outside literally can't see anything because of that and have to go inside to adjust it. If I use auto brightness the brightness is to high though for most purposes. My ideal would be to use the brightness level the automatic mode sets minus 10% for example.

Great Idea! I would really luike that one too. I'm pretty shure that the option doesn't exist in standard roms. But maybe an app?
I thought about looking for apps a couple of minutes after I started this thread and was kind of embarrassed. However, I didn't find any that worked the way I want them to.
I stumbled over one here in the forum lux something, but I doesn't work with jelly bean I guess.
If you find one, please let me know

Lux auto brightness does exactly what I want. You can set up different screen brightness settings for different lux values. It's an awesome app, check it out
