I got Dropbox installed on Kindle Fire

You know what this means don't you! You can add movies and yes apps from the Google android market into your DropBox and install them on the kindle without rooting the device. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
I have about about 595 apps available.
How To- install on Kindle Fire
I just my new Kindle Fire, which runs a modified Android Gingerbread. One of the ways the Kindle Fire is different from most Android devices is it does not have the Google Android Marketplace; instead apps must be obtained through Amazon’s own app store. As of this writing, the DropBox app is not available in the Amazon App Store, but I was able to get it installed on my Kindle Fire anyway with the following steps:
Click the gear icon in the top-right corner of the Kindle Fire home screen to activate the Settings window
Click More
Scroll down to Device
Scroll down to ‘Allow Installation of Applications from Unknown Sources’ and move the slider from ‘Off’ to ‘On
You’ll be prompted to confirm you mean to do this; you agree
Switch to the Kindle web browser and go to dropbox dot com/android (NOTE: the ‘https‘ is important!), and click Download App. This will download the Dropbox.apk file
When the download is finished you’ll see a notification in the top left corner. Click it and scroll down to the notification that the download of the Dropbox.apk file is complete. Click the file.
You will be prompted to install the application. Click the button
Once installation is completed, start the Dropbox application and log in.
Done!

Is it possible to change the homescreen via this method?
Would be wonderful to do that without rooting
Also, do I HAVE to root to get full marketplace?

No, I'm afraid not.

I fail to see how these directions are any different than sideloading apps since day one.

You're right, there is nothing new here. And the fact that someone loaded "dropbox" doesn't give them access to the Google Android market. One has nothing to do with the other. Worthless thread.

This is a worthless thread pretty much since its old news.
However, to let people know more semi-useless info, you can also use box.net which is does the same thing as dropbox, it is also available on the amazon market.

Hate to jump on the "tell me something I don't know bandwagon" but isn't this common sense? Been sideloading apps with dropbox since day one.
Well, till I rooted and set up the Marketplace. So much nicer.

Just updated via the Android market on all my devices including my KF

If you search for it, Dropbox is now also available in Amazon Appstore. Not updated yet to 2.0 as in Android market though.

Hulu on Kindle Fire

I wanted Hulu on my kindle fire without paying for hulu plus so I found a hacked apk from the xoom and thought I would share the wealth. This apk makes it so that while browsing your Kindle looks like a windows computer and will allow access to flash apps that normally are only available to a PC. Works like a charm! Hulu looks really good and no sync issues. I haven't tried youtube yet, but I assume it works the same. I searched hacked flash apk in google and clicked a link to the xoom forums. I loaded the apk on my kindle and installed it.

nvm, hulu works with dolphin browser, just flash didn't work with the firefox browser.

How did you get Hulu and Dolphin browser to work? I have a rooted device, installed Dolphin Browser form android market. Still didn't work.

When you set up dolphin browser for the first time it gives you an option to run your browser as android, load, mobile, or desktop. Select desktop and you should be good to go. You can also change this from the settings menu in dolphin after you installed it. I would post slink but since I'm new to xda I can't post links until I have 10 posts. I'm close now...haha. ill post a link as soon as I can. Sorry.

Well, Kindle Fire play Youtube videos fine, I have had no problem especially if you side load the youtube app, though I also got a free YouTube download from aneesoft to download videos, but to be frankly, the kindle play great and no need to do other works.
Hmm, Im curious how did you to watch Hulu plus smoothly on it??

Same here. Selected desktop mode and I still get message that device is not supported. Was there something else you did?

Well, Hulu page loaded fine for me but I didn't try to play a video until now and I get the "platform not supported" when I try to play a video, so I guess it doesn't work after all.

On CM9 I can get the desktop version to load in chrome without android warning, but the video doesn't play. I installed flash, so thats not the problem. Wonder if its the hardware excel thats causing probs.
YouTube website works fine...

It's the licensing
The way I understand it Hulu has license conflicts with some shows that preclude streaming them to a mobile device be it through their app or to an android or IOS based browser.
Those shows appear as "web only" in the Hulu+ favorites listing in the app.

True. Even on a ROKU, we get that message. The work around we use is Playon on our desktop computer. Hulu is accessed by the PC, so everything plays, then Playon shows up on the ROKU and streams Hulu (the regular free version of Hulu).
There is also a Playon app for Android, so you can watch Hulu on the Fire or any Android device. But no direct access to Hulu from KF afaik.

Ok, this I don't think will work on cm9, it may you'll have to try and report if it does. They were having an issue with flash in browser. So on miui, cm7, or maybe even rooted stock kindle. Here is the link

PlayOn is $5 a month, but if you pay a full year in advance ($40), it works out to something like $3.30 a month. Cheaper than Hulu Plus.
Plus, you get several other "channels". Of course, your computer has to be running while your streaming. I'm just mentioning it as another option.

Should my rooted NST be working better?

Browser crashes when I visit any page.
Opera mini never opens.
Kindle app is listed as Amazon.co.jp and I can't login. WTF?!?!
Market won't search or update to play store.
I can't scroll in the market to different app categories. Only the first page.
Is crap like this normal?
I updated to 1.1 and ran the Nooter project. I thought I did it right, but nothing seems to be working. What am I doing wrong, or is this just it? If so, I might sell the damn thing.

Opera Mini is a known issue. Try Opera Mobile. Which browser is crashing, Opera?
Market will not search or update to Play Store. This is a known issue. The NST runs Android 2.1, so is not compatible with the Play Store. However, you can use SearchMarket to work around this, and the old Market still works for updating and installing once you locate a package with SearchMarket. Again, this is a known issue.
Not sure about the Kindle app. I just see it as "Amazon Kindle" in ADW.
I'd suggest reading the installation threads all the way through so you're sure of what the current status of things are. You may well have had a bad root, but most of the things you've mentioned are known problems. The rooting procedure is a hack, after all, and can't make the underlying old Android OS work any better than it did.
FWIW: I've had good luck with TouchNooter 2.1.31, with everything working as described in that thread (not necessarily everything working).

I used the built in browser and went to the Opera web site and installed from there...
Installed the Kindle app via Google Play form a computer. It downloaded and installed when turning wireless on, on the Nook.

Did you try SearchMarket after 24 hours? Did you try installing from a web browser on your computer to install to your NST ("phone")? Did you try installing from the Amazon App Store? From your posts, it's not clear whether you did or not. You also haven't provided us with much info to try to help you with. Did you encounter any errors while rooting? Does anything else work?

OK, let's go through the issues here. I think I've got a summary here from the responses.
1. Don't know why ----------------------------Browser crashes when I visit any page.
2. Known issue (why in nooter?) --------Opera mini never opens.
3. Don't know why ----------------------------Kindle app is listed as Amazon.co.jp and I can't login. WTF?!?!

The first one is the built in browser, I don't know why it won't work. It appears it does for others.
I didn't experience any errors in rooting that I know of, but here is my process.
1. ran nooter 2.xxxx
2. had issues, found out I was at NST version 1.01 and ran the wrong nooter.
3. did a hard reset through the button holding method to wipe all data.
4. updated to 1.1
5. ran same nooter again.
after that, the process appeared to work, but I'm having these issues. I might needed to do more and screwed it up. Hopefully this is clear. If it's not, let me know and I'll try to explain better.

The native browser is not fully functional, from everything I've read. TRY OPERA MOBILE.

WWE Network

I saw that WWE Network App came out for the Amazon Fire TV, has anyone attempted to sideload that apk to the ouya?
Looks like its tied to the amazon app store app, it wont launch unless you have the amazon app store installed.
UPDATED Got it to work outside of the fire tv:
Modified the apk to work on other android devices. i belive it only works on 4.2 and above (Sorry Ouya stock people)

anyone? I have an android 4.4.2 box and this is basically the only app i care about that i cannot get to work, assuming the fire tv one would work flawlessly!

i modified the apk to play on other boxes but it needs android 4.2. so i cant test on the ouya (4.1) Will you be willing to test the apk for me? Link on the first post.

I actually have another post up on the amazon fire tv forums asking for an extraction and someone was kind enough to provide the apk for me, since i 'bought' the app on the web app store despite not hacing a device able to run it and also having the amazon app store on the device, i was able to run it. i did have lots of issues and while video technically works, i was not able to pause fast forward etc only go back here is the post:
So i was able to purchase/own the wwe network app from the online amazon store despite me not technically having a device it would run on, this box can also install the amazon app store no problem, though it obviously only sees the android wwe network app and not this one.. GOOD NEWS is that the app is working on my account! its def a bit wonky but i am hoping it is some stuff i can fix with some DPI xposed changes or something of the like, thanks so much very appreciated, and def works!!

So what exactly did u modify in the file? if it is to just get it to run, i have that already, if it is dpi changes or anything like that.. than it may be worht checking out!

this apk is modified so amazon app store isnt required. i havent tested is another box but it worked on my Samsung s5.

You were able to view other tabs besides home? Even on my HTC one m8 the homepage looks fine but the images dont load on the other tabs. Such as shows and schedule

I started to have this issue on my Tronsmart android tv box shortly before summerslam it stopped working and is still not, maybe there was an update to the app and i twas not updated here?

Today I looked at my Fire TV and look at that...
I can now Dload WWE app from AFTV store and use it.:good:
Have done nothing to my boxes.

I know this post is from 100 years ago, I'm trying to remove the amazon dependency from the APK but I'm having trouble figuring out how to remove the "check". Can you tell me what you changed in the APK so it will run without the Amazon app store being installed?

It would login and then never actually play the video. I ended up exporting the apk from my fire stick and side loading it to my android box. I also had to install the Amazon underground app in order for the apk to work.

Apps on main menus Unrooted firetv

Hi my first thread I was excited. I have been using aptoide for installing virtually anything without any difficulties and whilst browsing it informed me there was an upgrade for Amazon store, of course I clicked it, I have updates blocked in the router by the way.
Well I didn't expect much , Amazon store runs for about 20 seconds and closes so far, shame.
I opened my main menu, closing the fire menu Low and Behold all my apps now appear in the main app menu . I have powered off and on, they are still there. Here is the screen shots, excuse the text I'm on my phone . Enjoy

This is a great post.
I really want this but do not want to loose my root access or want any funky issues. I think my questions will put a lot of user concerned to rest.
I hope someone brave enough who has rooted there AFTV would try your approach and see if it works. I would love it if that person can confirm the following
1) Was your AFTV rooted before you click on the AmazonApp and updated?
2) did you block OTP updates using adb or just thru router?
3) what firmware are you currently running? Is amazon stock firmware or pre-rooted firmrware?
4) Did you try the boot into CWM using Rbox boot menu and try to reboot system thru CWM for normal amazon boot?

I read in another thread that installing the Amazon Appstore breaks something.
Would be nice to have all appears appearing like this, but I'm waiting until I hear more.

Hi I did as stated have Amazon store open. With my details etc I clicked through to log-in all fine the store opened and can be opened but closes after a short period. I did not use the store before presuming it unavailable and just a service I don't have anything paid on the device and probably never will being an ex-pat. Just running xbmc with smart DNS all fine here Thx

it is fine if u dont use prime video or any of that but if u do it breaks things

It doesn't really break anything, and there's a simple solution to get things working as they should, simply uninstall and things are instantly back to working. What I have always done is keep the app store apk so that I can uninstall when I need to install amazon apps, then reinstall when I am done.

Reporting back
Seems as reported I jumped the gun, appstore does indeed get broken. As a helper you can use Es file manager, Go into Library and app. You will find the apk there , long hold to highlight then backup / uninstall it will ask you if you would like the factory default apk. All done and returned along with the backup for reinstallation . hope this helps

I have got my AFTV yesterday, I have blocked the amazon urls in my rooter and used opendns as well but still Firetv is updated to the latest version which is 51.1.4.2 I think which is unrootable. Any way I have tried OP's option of getting the aptoide and updating the amazon appstore, which broke the the appstore but all the apps appeared in the apps as OP showed in the image without doing any llama thing etc. but as in previous post I have repaired the amazon appstore and all the view is back to normal for the apps screen. So, I am thinking to update appstore again and restore my apps view which is better for me as a starter but I have to think of a way to get the appstore working for some apps. hope my exercise will someone and if anyone have solution for my problem, please reply.
