Do you remember the good old Sense 2.1 times?
I used it for about three days and then went onto custom ROMs. I've tried many flavors (CM, MIUI) but I always went back to Sense ROMs.
I've never really been over the good old time when Sense 2.1 was all I had...
I'm somehow missing this. I want it back. But I also love Sense 3.x...
So this is just a thread to remember the old times...
If you have any screenshot, please post it. I want to get this old feeling back.
I'm also always looking at the front of my DHD package, looking on the screen and trying to touch it...
And I know I'm not the only one!
So, let's talk about the DHD beginnings, the old software, the old times.
And for the really nostalgic guys (I'm also thinking 'bout this): look in the DHD development section. There is a sticky with many ROMs listed. Also the good old 2.1 is under them.
I hope you understand me and I'm not the only one.
Thanks for reading.

I recently looked through the dev threads starting at the last page bought about by a feeling of nostalgia. I was even considering flashing an old discontinued rom just for old time sakes but left it for a rainy day. I think I'll really miss my DHD once I upgrade later this year.

I quite like sense 2 as well. Not too sure about going back to it though!

Because I remember the good old times? I've never been over Sense 2.1. And that's why I scare you? Because I love some old piece of software? Like the old Dropbox app?

I liked the more 2D weather animations in Sense 2.x, also the scrolling wallpaper as you change screens left/right. Maybe you can run the old ROM in an emulator in future...
One thing I did not like as much was the call answer screen controlls, especially whilst the phone was in pocket. Sense 3.x got it right now.

Sense 2 was very nice, less cluttered than Sense 3.x, but Sense 4.0 should change all of that back.

Happenin' guys howz tricks?
I'm not on here as often as i would like (when i briefly had both my O2 XDA aka HTC Universal and my Nexus One) however it is a great forum.
Not long changed from a Samsung Galaxy S 16gb model to the HTC Desire HD and my god what a world of difference - Sense UI is awesome (damn sight better than TouchWiz IMO)
Absolutely lovin' it!!
Just thought i'd say hi and praise an awesome phone
And thats from stock..wait till you do a custom rom and oc kernel...then it really is amazing.

I've been amazed in general regarding the various rooting, kernels, ROMs etc for Android however i would much rather have a secondary phone precisely for the sole reason of mucking around with the software
I may get a second phone to learn about it because i reckon it would be something cool to learn... I may even use that HTC Kitchen thingy on the forum
It is amazing, coming my self from a sgs where i needed to flash in order to get froyo and to get proper lag fix coming to the dhd is a nice breath of fresh air!
ATM i don't feel the need of flashing roms unless there was a good compelling reason, all the bugs that I've read here , i simply don't have.
I however love launcher pro so using that instrad of sense ui, also just managed to unlock my device which is great too.
Can't beat custom roms and kernels...I'm getting..
Quadrant . 3001
Linpack . 52.149
Neocore . 58.7

Hi guys need some help I really cart choose between desire be or gingerbread builds I was wondering if someone could tell me a few advantages about either of them to sway me to one or the other is they much difference apart from sense what has gingerbread got over desire hd things like that any info would be a help lol thanks
Why don't you just try both?
Sent from my JawsMIUI HD2 using XDA App
That's the problem I have lol that's why I looking for someone to sway me to one lol with reasons ha ha ha
Well go for what you prefer. Afterall, it's YOUR phone. ;-)
i need answer to thesame question to..
You know in all this time you could have just tried them both.
OMG REALLY?! I never knew that!
So I spent all this time waiting for an answer where I could have just tried them out? REALLY?! OMG!
No harsh feelings. Reasons being I believe no one can tell you what you will like or not, for we are not you.
The only reason that anyone will go for the ddesire hd build is sense 2. If you feel that you simply cannot go without sense, by all means, desire hd. Just so to note that sense is also sense.com experience and all those.
gingerbread is nice, I am using it now, and seriously, not missing much of sense.
Also, stock GB will probably gives you more space compared to Desire HD as Desire HD build comes with sense, and that takes up space.
But end of the day, try both and decide for yourself as both build is rather mature till date.
If it was 2 months ago, I will suggest to go with a Desire HD as there were still a few things that are missing from the GB port.
i personally love the stock builds and dislike the sense ones but its all depends on what you want ... just make a list of good things and bad things which ever has the most good things wins ???
Hi guys thanks for comments trouble is I have tried them both and carnt decide so I was wondering what advantages one has over other so I can say yea that's for me lol must say at moment only thing I miss in gingerbread is the desire hd camera
is a desire Z rom planed with htc sense based on gingerbread?
Would be nice.

OP has a serious and legitimate question. Sense is the only reason I'm waiting for the GB switch myself.
Obvious anti-troll is obvious.
HTC has already announced that will upgrade to android 2.3 with new sense the desire HD, desire Z, incredible s and the "classic" desire
I would love to have sense on my Gingerbread as well. But there are alternatives to sense also. Search Beautiful Widgets, Beautiful Animations, Beautiful Live Wallpaper, Beautiful Home Weather and install those.
I use em instead of Sense and I am growing quite fond of them myself.
Huzzah to an excellent alternative

P.S. Good to see you around Snark.

First of all, welcome over to the HD2, Trib! I hope you are planning to cook for us, it would be cool to see what you come up with
I like the Beautiful Widgets (et. al.) but Sense has so much more to offer, like the Skins and FriendStream. I've recently switched to pulse from the sense News Widget, so I'm not married to the Sense widgets, but then there is more to Sense than the eye-candy.
I've tried and liked CM6 and CM7 ROMs in the past, but I was an early-adopter of Gingerbread and was turned off by the lack of available stuff in the Market. I plan to go back (err. forward) some day, but I am going to wait for Sense this time.
Thank you for the welcome, mate.
Hopefully there will be Honeycomb for us some day. I was thinking about waiting to cook then; there are too many ROMs right now for us in the Android HD2 marquie.
I do have some idea though. So if we never see Android 3.0, then I will show what I have in mind.

You are right about those widgets, but as some one else said, sense has much more things to offer.. For example people (phonebook),and smart dialer.. Those 2 things are only things that are keeping me away from gingerbread or CM builds.. If there is a way to have sense like phonebook and dialer,i would switch to ginger or CM instantly..

Google has specifically stated that Honeycomb is for tablets only and the UI wasn't intended to work on smaller screens. Engadget said something about a guy here on XDA hitting a settings switch in the SDK that turned Honeycomb into a smaller, phone-like aspect without the major UI stuff.
I'm not so concerned about Honeycomb, except that it threatens to fragment Android (tablet vs phones) right now. I think Gingerbread could be perfect if Google could get BT HID licensed without having to pay for it.
thx for the answers. i hope htc publish sense for gingerbread soon. it was very fast on my hd2.
i like sense. some functions a very comfortable.

Try "Dialer one" you can get it from market.
camera is one of the things that keeps me attached with sense.
Think HTC are missing a trick here... just release an official Sense ROM for the HD2 - they'll be selling HD2's by the bucketload!

How about 'accidentally' leaking an unofficial one then?
With ICS and various sense ROMs out, even a nearly stable jellybean rom, the latest and greatest is pretty much as available for the DHD and I4G as it will ever get...but somehow I found myself missing good old cm7. Not say ROMs like Blackout aren't awesome (I'd say blackout has been the best for my battery life of all the ROMs I've tried, including cm7.2).
I usually flash something, and either revert back after a day or keep it if I really like it. So far this has only happened with 3 ROMs, Energy, MIUI RD (GB), and Blackout. I like blackout the most, but yesterday I flashed Hydrogenmod and something just does it for me. I'm probably going to stick with this one for a while.
Has anyone else felt this?
Not me lol. I want a newer phone, or at least to feel like it.

Yep, I'd like nothing more than an new phone, and my upgrade is due within a few months, but I still really enjoy my phone, even with newfangled whatever out there.
Sorry, what I mean is I don't miss any older ROM, because I like feeling like my old DHD is newer.

It would be really nice for people to know what roms are most popular. If a person asks which is the best rom people tear him down with 'Its personal choice. No one rom is perfect. Try on ur own and so on'
Here I ask u to feel free to post the rom you are currently using so that people like me get an idea.

I'm one of the 1st to most likely jump down the throat of anyone asking "best Rom" questions but you have asked this in a correct manner so I happily submit my current and favourites but in no terms would I class these any better than others .

I recently got a nexux 7 which is my first android device after being apple fanboi for many years, and no need to say im never going back
anyway, i was just a confused with all this custom rom talk and with a little searching around i got the impression that Paranoid Android (PA) was one of the more popular ones for small tablets, and so far im going with that because even as a newbie i didn't have any problems putting it on, or updating it
their own site lacks information and updates though - since everything seems to be going on here..
just my input.
