Evo 4G on a prepaid service. - EVO 4G General

Is it possible to flash the Evo to a prepaid service? If so, can you point me in the direction of correct post?

Evo to Cricket is all over the internet.
Cricket is relatively easy some of their stores will even do the whole process for you.
Evo to Boost is here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=689303
Boost can be about as difficult as Cricket, but sometimes closer to Virgin, it just depends on if you can get them to activate it.
You can sometimes buy pre-activated Evo 4g and Evo 3d on Boost from Craigslist.
Evo to Virgin Mobile is here.

Note that Virgin is by far the most difficult/expensive/risky to do and the most limited in terms of available roms if you need mms to work (CM7 and CM9 only).

Oh wow thanks for putting that together.

Sprint locked evo shift

Is there anyway to unlock this phone to still use on sprint? Thank you

The Inspire? AT&T, right? If that's what you're asking then there is a zero percent chance. Nada.

Do you mean that you bought a phone with a bad esn and they won't let you use it?

The only way to do it and stay on Sprint is illegal and not allowed to be talked about on this forum
Can u private message me then

The only way for the phone to remain on Sprint is for your buddy to be persistant with Sprint, and get them to release the ESN. If the account is paid for, the phone should no longer have a hold on it. Otherwise, it will only work with cricket/metro pcs, and possibly Boost, if you find the right CS associate.
I'm using evo shift on the China Telecom

Hello. I would really like to figure out how I can use this Evo Shift on boost mobile. I recently flashed my HTC Droid Incredible to Cricket so I have some knowledge. I would flash this to Cricket but the service coverage is horrible. Thanks for any help.

There are plenty of guys with Evo 4Gs on Boost. The only thing you really need to do is to have the CS add your ESN to Boost. There is no cloning involved. You may need to call a few times, and kind of play ignorant as to what type of phone you have (say a keyboard phone). But, based on what I read in the Evo forum, the rep can just add the ESN, and it's not a big deal. I'd read up more on adding a phone to boost under the Evo forum, and PM the people, to see what they had to do.

Virgin Mobile now has 4G

Virgin Mobile has now rolled out a 4G phone. For us Epic 4G users running on Virgin Mobile, I was wondering if it was possible to call up Virgin, find a nice support technician, and squeeze some info out of them. Perhaps get them to add our mac addresses to the system and clear us for 4G use.
Since the price points aren't changing, I don't see what the problem would be. All they have to do is add our mac address to the system and we should be able to pick up the networks.
I'm not expert at this, and I may be missing something. However, that's what I at least think should fix the problem.
I may give this a spin sometime, just have to get an understanding technician.
What are your theories? Any ideas? Something you have been working on?
I doubt they use WiMax

Boost does. It may be how Sprint is trying to make up for it's losses on Wimax since they switched to LTE.

Is it LTE or Wimax?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
It's sprints Wimax... They invested too much in Wimax to just toss it out the window so they opened it up to us boost Virgin users to get some extra life out of it since sprint will be rolling out it's LTE soon.
And don't trust sprint or boost or Virgins site for Wimax coverage... They have switched on a bunch of Wimax towers that don't show up unless you look on clear.com
Like here in Lincoln Nebraska!

Yes, they are using Wimax..
If you go to epic's virgin Mobile tut, Brooksysx talks about the whole she-bang in length, it's possible to use, but tedious to the average noob nonetheless.

What to do with old Evo?

Does anyone know what I can do with an old Evo in terms of prepaid stuff? It's got a clean ESN, and I've got a relative on a shoestring budget that would love something like this, but they can't afford contract prices.
Thanks.
Google is your friend.
It can be flashed to any company using same towers. Boost, virgin, etc.
I'm on boost myself.

Straight Talk... Uses Verizon's network.

In everyone's opinion, what prepaid service has the best data speeds/plans? I may be going this route soon.

This is incorrect on multiple levels.
Firstly, straight talk is a GSM carrier, which provides MVNO service for At&t, as well as t-mobile. The evo is a CDMA phone, which is compatible with that network.
The service that you're thinking of would be page plus, which provides verizon service in a mvno environment. The problem is that to use page plus, one must have a valid verizon ESN, which the evo does not have.
The evo must be used on a sprint mnvo, such as ting, or cricket. Virgin mobile will *not* work with the evo, as they require specific ESN numbers outside of the sprint general database.
It is possible to put an evo on page plus, straight talk, boost, and a few others. Straight Talk has gsm phones as well as cdma phones last time I checked. I haven't personally flashed an EVO to page plus but I've seen them. I have an EVO currently on boost, almost anything is possible if you put your mind to it! I

I think Page Plus is probably the best route. I had a Droid X on it. I have flashed an Evo Shift before to page plus. I don't think 3G worked but i use WIFI mostly anyways. I then flashed it to a Mexican company Iusacell and gave it to a friend that lives down there. Never got the 3G to work though it was a tough phone to flash.
I've know a few people with EVO's on Boost Mobile. They're really happy with it.
Turn it into an mp3/media player

Upgrade time

So my og is a mess of cracks and other issues and my 3vo has the digitizer ghost touch. So I am looking for a new cdma device. Been looking at the note 2, s4, and a couple of the nexus devices.
I flash my phone so bad esn phones are the best way to go for me. They are cheaper than new and i don't get stuck with a contract. The nexus phones seem to have the best of the aftermarket roms but not sure which one is the best. I do like htc sense but so far the one just seems out classed by the rest.
So I figured I would see what others think would be the way to go.

I've found the LTE EVO pretty cheap on craiglist and swappa. As well as the Droid DNA which is both cdma and gsm. I've gone the way of GSM now because there is a Wal-mart exclusive t-mobile prepaid plan for $30 a month unlimited text, and data (up to 5gigs high speed then throttled afterwards) 100 minutes. Though I rarely make calls.

This may help me make a decision on a new phone. I go the prepaid route as well. I'm currently in the same market as a phone buyer so I will have to keep GSM in mind. Thanks for that heads up sir.
The downside of gsm is the simcard. Your esn is on the card so there are no bad esn phones which means the prices are higher than a cdma with a bad esn.

I'm still using my OG,Not sure i wanna give it up,its been a good ole phone, very reliable and durable and i have a great rom(Eternal Prophecy) that does good on battery and speed and looks good,so i might hold out for a really good phone, haven't found anything that holds a candle to the EVO yet.

The EVO LTE was a nice upgrade a year ago when I moved up from my OG EVO. A year later, though, there is a whole new swath of Android phones to choose from. If I had to upgrade now from my EVO LTE I don't even know what I'd choose. It's definitely a "buyers market", so to speak.
