So the back of the battery door was peeling. So I decided to take a nicket to it like a lottery ticket. Feel free to try it out. Looks so much more bad ass now. Bit of a fingerprint magnet though.

Yeah, that stupid coating came off so quickly. I was all WTH when it started coming off then spent the next few nights in the bars scraping it while I was drunk came off pretty quick with just my nails lol

It took me about 20 minutes to scrape off the remainder of what was left on my phone of that coating haha. It looks so much better now, i don't know why i didn't do this earlier xD.

Lol! I thought it was some strange British something I scratched the bugger off with me nicket! hahahahhaha
I did the same with light fluid (paint thinner, fingernail polish remover, anything that has some alcohol) after it started peeling off somewhat. This was several months ago. I do have to warn you about the excessive scratches that appear now. They are quite minor and I have had my G2 since day 1 of its release. And yes... it will may be shiny but it does get fingerprints like the display now.
Mine went off by itself after 10 months of heavy use. i am pretty mercyless with my devices though...

I don't know why this never occurred to me before. I've put my G2 through quite a bit of abuse, so the battery door looked terrible. Looks so much better now. Thanks for the idea!
I can't believe you guys never realized it before. Mine started peeling off a long time ago, so I just scratched off the rest over the course of a few days with my fingernail. "Mod" . . . ummm sorry no.

I think the "mod" would be the nickel giving it some new scratches?
Lol, I mean it happened in about a month of owning the phone, just never did post anything. Figured everyone would just do the same, take the glaze off

Hmm interesting. It seems the finish on the door isn't great. Perhaps putting something onto the battery door to make it look better. I'm suprised how the finish isn't that great. After several months of use the finish is coming off.

haha, this is great! I was just starting to notice mine peeling; I had a case on it for a year, so it didn't start getting rough until now.

It is a mod. Your changing the phone from its stock look to something CUSTOM. yea it happened by accident. So what? The nexus s we had a bat door mod where you basically do the same except use sanding paper to give the door a black brushed metal look. Not only that I've only had this phone for 2 weeks.. sorry were not leet enuff for ya to figure this out ages ago AND NOT SHARE IT WITH THE REST OF US! lol some people lol always someone hating for no reason lol :-/

Scratching off something that is already peeling off is "custom"? You go on thinking that, bud.
As to why I didn't come on here and share this knowledge? Well, I thought it was pretty obvious that something that is scratching off (the clear coat) could be . . . . scratched off (TA-DAAAAA!!!!)
Its not stainless steel, anyway. Its aluminum. When I first read the thread title, I thought it was some crazy mod where you made a new battery cover out of stainless steel, or some kind of S/S coating. But . . . its not.
Although, I do appreciate the fact that some folks on here did not realize they could scratch off the deteriorating clear coat. So I agree that this is a useful thread. But I'd use something softer than a nickel (or other metal), to avoid scratching the brushed aluminum while you remove the clear coat.
Most of the material is off my panel door as well, just haven't taken it all off yet. But, it scratches up really bad, so be prepared for it to look pretty beat up after some time. Still though, it looks much better without that finish on there.

I'm not getting any squeaky, quirky or "cracking" sounds on mine, it's very sturdy and tight. Maybe you got a slightly defect one. If it bothers you then you should obviously return it.

+1 - nothing like this on my a500, had it for nearly two months. Trade it in.
Make sure all corners are snapped firmly in place. Like others have said, just return it and get a replacement if there isn't any obvious fixes to your issue.
no creaks, squeaks or otherwise here, as others have posted, if you still have time, exchange it!
Thanks guys, good enough, I gonna replace it even though there is no gap and looks tight but something is wrong cuz every time I press it cracks like something is not snap tight.

I probably did get that one which you have returned. ;-) The same noises in the upper left corner. Unfortunately that is a big pain in the ass to replace something in Poland. BTW it is 530 USD to buy it here. Anyway is the new one free of that cracking sound??
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk
I have only seen 3-4 people complain about this so it seems to me that it's a very rare build defect, probably just a bad batch of plastic somewhere? Of course, what I have or haven't seen is just anecdotal evidence, but I'd feel returning it and getting another one should have quite good chances of actually getting one of the good samples

Ha ha ha... the home button, take a look again!
Ok this is funny
Had the phone about two weeks already.
I just noticed now when I was cleaning the screen, that the home button looked a tiny bit bubbly (for want of a better word). I thought, hmm wait a minute that doesn't look right.
Sure enough, on really close inspection I could see that the button still had a bit of the plastic clear cover on it! LOL managed to get it off and the button and phone look that bit better for it
Enjoy...
PS how many of you out there also didn't notice and still have the plastic on it, out of interest post back
MJ-12
Ha Ha same fault here Ha Ha Ha HAH!
Noticed it right away when I got the unit from the store but I believe some people users never noticed this even after a month of owning the device.. relatively the same with those who are blind to the screen issue
I noticed it after a few days, but had the same thoughts about that in mind.
I knew it looked a bit weird... didnt know it was a sticky till now ^o^
I noticed it straight away but I guess I'm half blind. No screen issue here.
I noticed it on the day I got the phone, but decided to leave it there.
I had the same on my Sgs I and noticed it right away, but on my Sgs 2 i left it there to prevent from scratches
Nice, I just scratched the edge of my home-button, trying to get a non-existing film off... Guess mine never had it - but what I have now, is a scratched home-button jesus...

I hope this becomes standard.. and soon!

True but the rain would interupt with the capacitive screen making it nearly impossible to use in the rain anyway.
But this does look promising. Hope it starts rolling out on devices this year!

To be honest I haven't noticed that, but considering the fear of getting the bloody thing wet im not surprised.
Not dying in the wet it half way towards usable in the wet at least
(and considering when we get rain over here, we really get rain, bloody hell!)
(Also that's a stupidly good movie, gotta love Simon Pegg and Nick Frost)

its the protective coating separating there was someone else having a similar issue but it was one big spot at the bottom of the screen where it was coming off.. Did you ever clean the screen with ammonia products like Windex .This can cause issues with the coating .Other people have commented on dots being on the glass itself as well..
So yes i have heard of this but it sounds like yours is the extreme of the condition..

For anyone interested in the results of the drenched in toilet water soaking my N4 took after Thanksgiving, it works.
I removed it from the rice that I replaced 4 times. I don't know how to take the phone apart and clean with solvent, however it seemed dry upon inspection and the display looked like brand new. I turned it on and everything works great. I was surprised because I figured the speakers and whatnot might not be clear but they sound crisp and new, no problems at all.
So I can recommend and verify that the rice treatment works, now I am just waiting for my other N4 to arrive from back order.
Good to hear. Thanks for the update.
Wow, glad to know that actually works. Was it in a warm environment (Like what temperature standard 21ish *c)
