Hello,
I'm looking to finally take the plunge and flash a custom ROM, but I'm a bit lost in all the possibilities. I have a green Defy flashed with stock 2.2—what would be the best upgrade, bearing in mind the following criteria (ordered by priority):
1. Stability
2. Battery life
3. Speed/performance
4. Appearance
Also, I'd prefer it to have the least possible applications/services/clutter installed while still running stable, so I can work my way up from there with the apps I need.
Any input would be appreciated.
Try cm7 for a while start with the stable and then try a few nightlys, it will get you used to flashing, then try cm9 and you will see how good it can be,
Green lense defys don't get flashed with sbfs after froyo, you will just have issues, if you break something then just reflash your sbf of froyo and you'll be fine
teamwork makes the dream work
Thanks for your reply. Forgive my skepticism, but I was under the impression CM7 was all about adding functionality and features—how is it going to make my phone lighter or increase battery life?
more free ram more multitasking..android 2.3 gb ..you can yourself give it a try and have a look at your battery stats..+ you get firmware update! and its ultra smooth then defy froyo 2.2.1 ..much much better .. you can play 720p hd videos too ,,flash is much better in GB..then on froyo..try it out and feel the difference..good luck!

Lets face it...MDJ isn't coming back anytime soon (If ever!) and frankly he has left quite a few people that use his ROMS in the cold.
So, in my unsuccessful quest to find a replacement ROM, does anyone have any suggestions on a Android NAND ROM as a replacement for MDJs Gingerbread CM7 Roms?
If its not listed in the POLL, just post below and I will add it.
Never tried gingerbread roms for real before so I wouldn't know sorry. However from my past experience with JDMS Ultimate Droid, I would recommend you trying crawlingcity's Ultimate Droid 3.1
The build i'm using now is gauner's desire z build. Just sticking to Froyo until enough apps get updated to gingerbread.
I would suggest Ultimate Droid 3.01.
Fast clean and reliable I have not encountered anything that does not work.
Fast boot time takes about 1 minute.
Cheers..
For me this rom is allmost close to perfect:
skink Clean Desire v1.2
Stable, fast and nice . I like Sense. Thank you
MDJs_CyanogenMod7_v.2.6_NAND_A2SD+.
Hey
I still have Froyo on my U8800 and I want to update to a flawless rom
wht shall I choose
official GB
oxygen
Aurora
....etc
It deppends of what do you want to do with your phone.
Install all the tree and make your choice
Sent from my Huawei Ideos X5 using xda premium
well I want...
improved functions
radio
longer battery life
no essential fails (like no haptic feedback or missing wifi ..etc like the official GB)
play games that froyo can't
i think you must try it one by one.
I would choose a .32 kernel based ROM, as they are still more stable at the moment. Oxygen by dzo would be my first choice
Which rom is stable and less bug?
i am newbie..
I Have Tried Lots Of ROM. I Can Say Best ROM It CM7 Till Now.
The first thing I did when I bought my phone summer last year, was root it and install a custom rom. Didn't even boot it to look at the stock set up first!
First rom I installed was Oxygen, and I have it say it worked great. Stable, fast, good battery life, and never had any problems.
Last month I decided I needed a change, not because there was anything wrong with Oxygen, but just because once in a while I like to play around with different roms.
Tried Aurora, and have to say it's great. Not quite as speedy as Oxygen and battery doesn't last as long, but pretty and damn stable, haven't had a crash yet.
Tried MIUI one afternoon, but not to my liking, too far from the Android experience imo.
Can't go wrong with either Oxygen or Aurora, depending on what you're looking for.
Dear Members,
I have seen lot of posts saying Gingerbread is more battery efficient than froyo.
Is this true & worth switching from froyo to gingerbread?
If it is good, I will flash gingerbread but want to install CM7/ CM9 finally. Presently I am on CM7.2 RC1 & love it over RC2 for its battery performance.
Will the results even be better once I change to GB & then install CM7.2 RC1 on my defy red lens?
Please guide.
I would rather like to have downgradability intact to froyo for warranty purposes. In that case, I will have to flash fixed GB with nandroid backup.
I tried searching on XDA but links seem to be broken being old.
CAn a learned member clarify all my doubts & provide me a detailed step by step guide for update. The guides available / I have seen are incomplete & seem to be leaving the user in between.
Hope I am not asking much.
Hey guys! I got my Defy+ a few days ago, been playing with it, trying to tweak it you know...
But I've decided I want to root it and install Jelly Bean 4.1.2 on the device.
I haven't rooted it YET or tried to do anything close to it, so I'll look for tutorials around here.
Currently I've seen a few ROM but I need your help to get the closest to my wish.
So here's what I'm looking for in a ROM:
1. To be stable
2. To be user-friendly
3. To be easy to install
4. To be a light performer meaning, giving me a performance boost like smooth menu scrolling etc etc.
5. To be pretty
I know I just described most of the ROM out here but I'd like them listed and organized so I can choose easily.
Thanks a bunch!
there is, more or less only one JB rom: cm10 by Quarx and it is smooth but not as snappy as cm7. install is easy if you did it before!! try it.
Unless you want to be a beta tester, forget about Jelly Bean or even ICS. Here's why:
1. Quarx CM10 isn't stable at all at this point—there are still lots of unresolved issues
2. poor battery life compared to CM7 or even stock 2.3
3. every new build seems to break something, introduce lag somewhere or reduce battery life
4. updates are frequent and manual, so you'll have to go through the install procedure often if you want to keep up (worse yet, a clean SBF install is preferred or you could run into problems), which can get tiring after a while.
Try WIUI stable (GB) first: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161110
It's not Jelly Bean, but it meets all 5 of your requirements
Hi guys,
Does anyone still have this version of miui by Will5 on his hard drive? I can't download it from will5 thread.
It would be much appreciated.
Cheers
I know it doesn't help your problem much, but have you tried CM10.2 yet? It is such a better ROM in every way than any other I've used on my trusty MS2, Will5's MIUI included.
Thanks, but I actually use cm10.1 by Tezet. It's the most stable and smooth (after some optimizations such as disabling a lot of apps in hwa acceleration) for me. Everytime I try cm10.2 from czeshop or englemars I meet some problems like with bluetooth ad2p, some reboots or hangs... they are not enough finalized IMHO. Now I put all my hopes in kitkat
Anyway, going back to topic, I wanted to find this version of MIUI for my other MM2 to check the difference of performance between this good old miui that I really enjoyed back then and CM10.1. But I am afraid that no one hes this version of MIUI on their hard drive anymore
I finally manage to found that latest version of GB MIUI and it's such a pleasure to find it back. It's so much faster than any of the other roms I have tried. I've been on tezet's CM10 for almost a year, but going back to this miui rom makes my phone ultrasnappy! I forgot that pressing the phone button could make the dialer appear in less than 3 seconds... same for SMS and almost everything in the phone!! You click, it appears, period. No waiting time.
I'll still follow the evolution of KitKat, but even kitkat (I've only tried Engle-Mars one) is not as fast and quick responding as this good old MIUI for the moment. I hope dev will manage to optimize them to that level of snappiness!
I would recommend using KitKat. For me it turned out a lot faster than the CM10.x versions :good:
I don't know about the Engle-Mars Version, but the one of Czechop still reboots on me once a day. Featurewise they are both already on par with Tezets last Rom(but faster).
