[Q] Google maps screwed help needed - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi friends,
I had google maps 5.6, so thought to update it to latest v6.4..
but i uninstalled old google map without deleted data and cache..now when i try to install the latest maps, it says application not installed..
then i tried installing from market..but it gives error saying" incompatible with other application..bla bla."
i also tried to move the apk to system/app..renamed it to Maps.apk, rebooted..but still no maps in my phone..
I also flashed latest gapps..but still cant see maps in my phone..
any kind of help wpuld be appreciated..i really need google maps.
Thank You.

Try to install again 5.6 (you can find the apk on some websites, just do a search), clear cache and data for Maps and after that go for incremental updates (5.8 then 6.1, etc). Usually you'll find all versions on a site.

hi.. i had tried the above link yesterday itself...tried the signed version..but still same problem
i travel new cities and i totally depend on google maps..

Well, if you need it that bad, you could wipe your phone and start over again from scratch. Or restore a nandroid, if you have one.

i also tried to move the apk to system/app..renamed it to Maps.apk, rebooted..but still no maps in my phone

Just to clarify, have you change permission to rw-r--r--?
Edit : I tried Maps 6.4 on my virtual CM9 and as you said, it is not working. Strange... but well, I managed to re-install it using Maps 5.10.2. Download the gapps below, use File Manager to explore the zip and install Maps.apk

[Q] Google Maps updates disappeared from Market

My wife has a stock G1 on T-Mobile running the latest OTA updates.
She has occasionally had some odd issues with Google Maps on her phone, and in the past, simply uninstalling the updates and re-installing the latest update from the Market has generally cleared things up.
So tonight, I uninstalled her Google Maps updates, however when I went to the Market to re-download and install the latest update for Google Maps, it was nowhere to be found.
So long story short, I performed a hard reset of her phone, and even still, Google Maps simply doesn't show up in the Market for me to download the latest update.
Now she is stuck with a really outdated version of Google Maps on her phone with no Google Navigation.
Any advice?
Sideload the apk onto the phone
try this lol not sure if will work but its worth a shot

The latest maps I think requires android 2.1 or greater.. anoying they don't let you get older versions.
As for re-installing a newer version of maps:
Maps v4.7
a) uninstall as you already have
b) Download file and place on your SD-Card, in settings->applications->Unknown sources, check it
c) Then install with oi file manager or similar app available on market by selecting the maps apk
d) if you do not generally wish non market apps to be able to install applications unckeck Unknown Sources.
You can alternativly download to a PC and install with 'adb install <maps.apk>' if debugging is enabled on the phone.
just had the same problem thanks adb worked
I recently flashed from SuperE to Dwang 1.6 mainly for quickness and Navigation and low and behold its not there! Seriously they should at least let you download the last compatible version.

You can also install your missing apps like google mail or maps over the market. The only gapps you need is the market and gtalk. I hope they are installed
ya they are installed
if you really needed to run it again just wipe the data partition. it works but at a great price.
just install them from teh market,

Google Maps missing from Market after upating to GingerDX

I updated my ROM to GingerDX and Google maps is missing. It was available on old 'Floyo'.
I used market enabler and searched in market with title and even all apps by google .
I tried via web to push the installation and it was disabled. I tried to install a apk directly from memory card and it was throwing application not installed.
As an experiment, I tried wiping dalvik cache and still am not able to get it. Please help me.
It was removed temporarily since V 12 . DX is checking batery consumption.
You can go back to V11 or installing Maps yourself from ownhere thread at XDA.
Thank you. Would there be any fix for that later?

Problem with Google Earth and Maps

On my triple boot card I have Google Eart and Maps on both the CM7 and the CM 9.
On the CM 7 It works ok and updates load and install flawless.
On the CM9 Earth and Maps are pre installed.
Earth just does not work. I can load the update and install it but when I start up It tells me that it unfortunally stops.
The installed Maps version works ok, but the update won't install.
It says some signature is missing and tells to uninstall maps and reinstal.
I think that I need to uninstall Google Earth and Maps and than reinstall.
But the problem is, that I see no way to uninstall the preinstalled apps, because they are part of the system.
Thanks for any answer.

You can manually remove them with root explorer, but the best way is to use Titanium Backup. Or with CM9, you can use settings to disable system apps, which they are.
thanks again for your reply.
I downloaded root explorer but did nothing with it, It was too overwhelming for me to find out what to do.
I did try to download the free Titanium Backup but I got the message "error processing purchase [DF-BPA-09]
I was able to download the payd Keyapp, but this won't work without the free Titanium app.
In my CM9 Settings part there is no possibillity to disable system apps.
A lot off the free apps that I try to download stop installing with "error processing purchase [DF-BPA-09]
This is all in CM 9.
In CM 7 everything works okay.
Any idea what's wrong??

In CM9 go to settings, apps, all apps tab, scroll to the system app you want and open it. There should be a disable button there. Once you select that it is not active anymore. If you want to re-enable you do the same thing and then hit enable.
Thanks for your answer.
I could disable the app in this way.
What I hoped was that I could remove it and load the app from the appstore.(that is not gone work)
So this does not really solve the problem.
I am able to ues earth on CM7.
So I will install the apps, that won't install on CM9, on CM7.
No further messing around.
Thanks for your time and expertise.

Play store error [rpc:s-5:aec-0]

Hello, I recently flashed Cameleon and am having trouble with the playstore. It returns this error when I try to view my apps, TB is unable to restore market links, and I can't even view my apps on the web interface. Can anyone help?
I should add that I've: added a 2nd google account, removed the first, readded the first still no luck
cleared data/cache from play store and google services framework still no luck.

Reinstall it... Fith a file explorer delete it from system/app, find a flaseable .zip of gapps and flash it.
Thanks, I'm going to try the new playstore (4.0) if that doesnt work, I guess I'll reflash. which is the definitive GAPPS?
