[Q] All ROMs fail to install? - Kindle Fire General

Every ROM I try to install on my Kindle Fire give me the error Cannot load /misc!,which then causes it to reboot back into recovery. Then when I manually start my Kindle into the NORMAL BOOTUP, it boots into TWRP. This happens on every ROM I try. Any ideas?

Are you using TWRP?

The error saying it can't load misc volume (kindle doesn't have it) is normal and doesn't effect the install at all.

you will allways get this error because the kf don't have a volume misc - simply ignore it !

yes - it installs without any problems - the roms for the kf don't have any data or reference to this volume - this ingore the error

It's going to take a while to boot up for the first time so just sit back an be patient, the CM7 animation may spin for a minute or two before finally booting to the home screen.

good point airmaxx23 !
had a case where the prerooted stock rom needed 20min for the first boot !
but it booted correctly and everything is ok

Wait, you tried pressing the "reboot" button on the same screen that appeared after you flashed the rom, didn't you? Hitting that button actually does launch you back into TWRP after every ROM flash.
If you navigate back to the TWRP home screen and go reboot> system, then it will begin to boot into the ROM without any problems. The /misc problem happens with every ROM that I've tried.

this is what appears in the window when I select install
Install /sdcard/cm9-02-24.zip
E:Cannot load volumen /misc!
Finding update package…
Opening update package…
Installing update… (and immediately appears the next without loading or anything)
E: Cannot load volumen /misc!
This is another installation I tried:
Install /sdcard/Energy.zip
E:Cannot load volumen /misc!
Finding update package…
Opening update package…
Installing update… (the same, no loading.. immediately appears)
E: Cannot load volumen /misc!
In both cases (after wiping the cache and dalvik) I press the reboot option and my KF starts normally with the yellow triangle
but when I try to install the stock firmware it appears like this:
Install /sdcard/update.zip
E:Cannot load volumen /misc!
Finding update package…
Opening update package…
Installing update… (in this case the loading bars appears and takes about 1 minute or 2, then i got the next line)
E: Cannot load volumen /misc!
and reboots without the yellow triangle... erasing the twrp and unrooting my KF

No. I didn't hit anything after the install. It does it by itself everytime. Yes, I am using TWRP. And, this happens with every ROM...

Oh and I already did. Sorry I couldn't reply until now..

EDIT: Misread thread, sorry bout that. Nevertheless you should have known that can't load volume/misc has absolutely nothing to do with your problem.

I found a way that worked for me:
- reinstall the Twrp with adb
-copy to the sdcard the custom rom
-make a backup
-factory reset, wipe dalvik cache and cache
-go to install option and select the custom rom install it
-wipe dalvik-cache and reboot
Note: I downloaded everything again (the Twrp, the custom rom) maybe that was part of the problem...
That worked for me... Hope it works for you as well

[Q] bricked

Hi !
today I decided i should upgrade from CM7.0.2 to nb 118. But I first installed latest radio. I did a backup at this point. The radio flash went ok, the phone booted and everything worked fine.
I installed nightly build 118 from ROM manager without google apps, and with a dalvik wipe (no data/cache wipe). The phone booted up ok, but some widgets had disapeared, some shortcuts didn't work and some apps had disapeared too, the autorotation of screen at 0° had been unticked too... I rebooted, and finally decided I should revert to my backup.
That's where the real problem happens : after the backup restoration, the phone is stuck in a boot loop.
I can start with fastboot mode, but I can't access recovery mode, the red exclamation mark is there...
I'm not sure this tutorial : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=751265 is adapted to my situation, should I follow it ?
Thank you for your help !
PS : I'm S-OFF
This should be @ the Q&A section but anyway, here we go:
I just had that bootloop situation myself and yes, you should follow that usb unbrick tutorial. That'll help you. Also, you should try if you can get to fakeflash by pressing VOLUP + POWER while @ the red exclamation window. If you can and you should be able to, search XDA for "fakeflash clockworkmod" or something similar, you should find a CWM image in a ZIP form. Then put that image into your SDCard, rename it to update.zip, go into the fakeflash menu and apply update.zip, it should fly you to the real recovery menu where you can do a full wipe and flash your ROM again.
Hopefully I'm not forgetting anything =D At least that's how I solved my situation and my phone is working fully again!
Hi.
Do you have the update.zip from recovery clock in the root of your sdcard, if so just press volume up and the power down at the same time, or the other way around ;-) when it change picture choose option, install update.zip and you should be in recovery mode
Im a noob, so dont laugh if i have written it the wrong way
Cheers, and good luck.
Jesus chist, it is written in the second post... Damn.

That "Can't open /cache etc." error message indicates that you are in the fake-flash menu. Do you have a working recovery image in the root of your SDcard renamed to "update.zip"? If not, try searching the forum for "clockworkmod fakeflash" or something similar and it should show some topics that will help you.
I recently got my Legend working again from bootloop and usb brick so I'm ready to help you with your further problems that may occur =)
EDIT: And please, make sure that your recovery zip is just "update.zip" and not a ZIP file named "update.zip" cause then it will be a file called "update.zip.zip" =D

I hope you read this and if it isn't fixed yet then take a rom YOU KNOW that works.
go into recovery Go to "mounts and storage" and format SYSTEM. NOTHING ELSE.
Do a wipe and THEN flash your zip.
Remember to NOT go out of recovery when you have formatted the system.
I hope it helps.

SlashDW Cyanogenmod 7 ROM error

Hey guys i did everything correctly, i backed up my apps using titanium backup, and flashed clockworkmod recovery, and then downloaded SlashDW Cyanogenmod 7.1.0 unofficial rom, and it asked me if i wanted to boot into recovery, so i clicked yes, after wiping everything, but it just shows a yellow triangle with a exclamation mark in it, and then my phone at the side.
What am i meant to do? Please help.EDIT: Posted in general section.
Somehow you still have the stock recovery.. flash again?
Hey thanks for the quick reply. Yes when i press home + power, i can go into clockwork mod recovery, but i'm new to this so i want to do it through rom manager. Everytime, i try to do it, it comes up with the same thing, the yellow triangle with exlamation mark.
I'll flash recovery again, to see what happens. Thanks for your help again.

So home + power gets you in cwm recovery? Then use that.
But i'm downloading a rom through rom manager, but that just dosen't work. & i accidently deleted the CW recovery image, so i had to install the clockwork rom manager again to get the folders on the sd card back. Oh and i re-installed everything so i'll give it a try again and see what happens.
It won't even let me press home + Pwr to go into CW recovery anymore now as well, shows yellow triangle, what shall i do?
Just reflash the recovery image, make sure superuser gives permissions to clockwork, then try, its a hassle but it happened to me too
Sent from my HTC Magic/G1 using XDA App
Thanks, i re-flashed and then tried installing the recovery image, and it keeps coming up with a error like this, when it starts doing it:
assert failed: write_raw_image("
/tmp/boot.img" , "boot")
E:Error in /sdcard/clockworkmod/
download/romshare.deployfu.com.com
Basically it's a status 7 error. (that's what it says)

[Q] Please help me, error while flashing

Hi guys, I hope you can help me.
I have just rooted + flashed my motorola defy plus for the first time (on any device for that matter)
I installed 2nd init, version 0.6.... or something.
Put a rom, kernel and google apps on my sd-card
Then I turned usb-debugging off and rebooted my phone.
Now I can get into bootmenu, and this is what I do:
1) go to recovery
2) select custom recovery
3) then it says: Clockworkmod Recovery v2.5.1.8
E: Can't open /tmp/recovery.log
4) I then select wipe data/factory reset
5) then it says this: Formatting DATA
Formatting CACHE
FORMATTING SDEXT
No app2sd partition found. Skipping format of /sd-ext
Formatting SDCARD:/.android_secure
Data wipe complete
E: Can't open /tmp/recovery.log
6) After that i select install zip from sdcard
7) then I select choose zip from sdcard
8) then I select the zip file containing the rom
9) And it says: Finding update package
Opening update package
Installing update
E: Can't make /tmp/update_binary
Installation aborted
Now I can't go any further and can't use my phone at all
I hope u guys can help me, and that I haven't F*ed up my phone
I have a quite similar problem.

Thanks to the previously backup I can use may phone as usual.
What I have done wrong with de ICS installation?
Thanks

Yes I do, but nothing change,
Thanks
if I'm not mistaken the last release of 2nd init is not compatible with defy. Try to check this on the development forum. I hope I have been of help.
I'd tried with both 1.0.7 latest and 0.6.1.
With latest, the phone is blocked.
Thanks
I had used this. Try with it
P.S. sorry for my bad english.
Tried, the same errors,
Thanks

What do you mean by "stable recovery"? You talk about version 0.6. of 2nd init or something else?
Can you show a step-by step procedure?
Thank you in advance.
However, which is the procedure to un-root a defy+ and to have it with the original, fresh system?
I had flash a new SBF, root with Unlockroot v2.3, anything else doesn't work, 2ndinit v2.0 stable, wipe data/cache/dalvik (same errors), try to install cm9-ics, the same error "Can't make /tmp/update_binary"

Hi, I have exactly the same problem.. Trying to find a solution but is quite difficult. First I thought it has something to do with the partitioning, as stated in THIS topic. But, in THIS topic, people say that partitioning the SD card is not necessary at all..
@Cretu22: Yes stable recovery is CWM 0.6
Don't install stable recovery! I too faced this issue when I flashed using stable recovery. In snd init install Latest recovery and then try flashing your ROM. That should work..
I did choose the stable version indeed 0.6.7.
Now i did uninstall it and installed the latest 1.0.7, but when I reboot my phone it won't get into the boot menu but just boots into android. Tried it several times, but only with 0.6.7 I seem to be able to get in the menu

Yes, its working Pressing the volume down button was not necessary with 0.6.7, that was what went wrong. Now the zips installed like a charm
i know the answer and is very simple
the problem is that you cannot create that specific folder.... because it already exist, cmp (connected music player) creates it, just delete it from SD and done!

Hello!
I have the same issue with my Samsung S5690 Galaxy Xcover.
I accidentaly deleted a launch screen(home screene) with titanium backup on a rooted device. After that I rebooted for some stupid reason and it didn't go past the flashing samsung logo. After that I made a factory reset and tried to reboot again. This time it looked like I was saved but at the end it was only a black screen with only the top bar showing - where it displays the time, battery and what you can pull down with your finger to reveal different toggles for wifi, gps ect.
I tried the zip file that was made for pepo36 by crackeron.
I booted to recovery mode, made a cache wipe and a factory reset and executed the zip file only to find this error:
--Install /sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(Status 0)
Installation aborted
I have also tried installing a whole rom with the same message.
Any advise or ways to fix this issue? I have tried everything in my know how and without any effect.
Please help.
Thank you.

Because this is an flashable launcher (and not an APK) it must be made specifically for your phone otherwise you badly mess the ROM. By now reinstall the rom from begining.

Hi, the launcher may be device dependant. it probably doesn't work for your device. Try showing the flashable zip to other people who have your device, they'll be able to help you with what we've done here
Edit: It could be update binary that is incompatible with your recovery also. The one used here is a few years old and probably obsolete. Try using one that you find in flashable zips that work on your own device You may need to re-write the update script to accord with the binary, but it's an easy job, and if you're new to this, it's the first thing to learn about fiddling android
