Are you keeping your A500 or gonna try the next best thing?

I am still on my 14 day return and have been thinking about this. Android biggest problem is something new is always right around the corner. I think a lot of you are here cause the Asus was unavailable and may still be waiting on that.
So are you keeping it.
Did it surprise you enough to stay with it.
Is the upcoming Samsung Galazy Tab 10.1 or the burning desire to have the Transformer gonna make you take it back.
Maybe the Toshiba Tab with it's built in USB might persuade you.

I bought the Acer because the ASUS wasn't available, but I'm quite happy with it anyway. As you said, there's always something new around the corner, but what I've seen about the Toshiba models put them in the Xoom price range, and I haven't seen pricing on the Samsung 8.9 and 10.1 (new thin models, not the 10.1V original design.)
Honeycomb in general's still a very new system, and I expect by this time next year most of the things we're looking at as "missing" or "broken" will be available and/or fixed. Kinda the way I'm still using my (original generation) Droid phone, which, when overclocked and ROMd over to Gingerbread is just fine

I figured that I'd get it to play with Honeycomb and wait for some of the vaporware tablets to emerge. I had bought a Xoom but it was a real POS - nothing worked including the falsely advertised charging dock, etc. So I returned it.
Now I'm absolutely keeping the Iconia - I have a rooted Nook Color - very nice but not in the same league as the Iconia.
Don't believe all the BS put out about how bad the screen is, or other stuff.
I rooted it (easiest root I have ever done) and everything works as advertiszed.

I still got until Monday wiki decide Saturday if I will return or not to get the transfoemer, tegra 3 tablets are also coming out in august

Got both the Asus and the iconia and will keep the iconia ..
The Asus just feels so cheaply made that no amount of screen quality can make up for it feeling like a cheap toy in my hands.
I can understand the whole IPS vs standard screen debate as i have owned many great screens over the years including IPS desktop screens and iPads etc etc .
They both have there pros and there cons but a good screen and good build quality are more important to me and the whole USB host thing built in without the need for a dock or separate accessory is just great.
Will never need a keyboard attached to it either and i think thats what really pushed me over the edge to keep the Acer.
Not slamming on the Asus btw because its decent in other areas but after getting 2 with some nasty light bleed on top of questionable build quality the Acer just took the crown for overall winner .

I am keeping mine. I actually had a Xoom first and took it back...thought it was too expensive for what it was. I actually really like the Acer better. I love the USB port, the micro card slot actually works ( didn't on xoom as of yet), It feels a lot lighter and I actually like the bezel being larger as it is easier to hold without hitting the screen. The viewing angle is good (not sure why bad comments on that). I like it a lot.

Keeping. Was waiting on the Asus, but i'm more than happy with the screen of the Acer, absolutely love the usb port, and since removing the phone apks, I have no complaints about battery life. I'm happy.

Right before I got the Acer I had purchased a used Galaxy Tab 7" thinking that would satisfy me.
Then I saw the Acer. Once I touched it I fell instantly in love and fought myself not to give into temptation everyday. Suddenly it hit me... I have a Bestbuy card and it means I can take 18 months to pay for it without a dime of interest.
1/2 hour later I had the Iconia in my sweaty hands.
Sure the wife *****ed but hey, it's only a new toy once.
For me it's a keeper. Like others have said, the USB port is a big factor and I see nothing wrong with the screen.

Keepin'. I am surprised how much I enjoy the Acer iconia Tab. The USB port makes all the difference. I think the build quality is very nice indeed and I really like the design. Root doesn't hurt either.
I was an early adopter of the Linux Eee Pcs and thought they were very solid little machines, but later models had some serious build quality issues. So the Eee Transformer quality/build problems I have read about do not surprise me one bit. . . .
Also have the Galaxy Tab 7" and a Nook Color. Not sure which one of those I'm sticking with though. I like them both but I leaning toward the Nook and selling the Galaxy Tab on Ebay.

I will be taking mine back, but only cause I will be waiting for Samsung galaxy tab 10.1. The weight of the Acer is an issue for me, but can understand why it is. Feels very sturdy. I absolutely love the USB port & sdcard working out of the box. So testing the Acer gave me a few things to think about far as what I want in a tablet. I know Galaxy tab 10.1 will not have USB port. Not sure how Toshiba's will feel.
I definitely recommend people to try the Acer
Also the corners of acer are kind of pointy if holding for awhile.

I'm still on the fence. I'm coming from daily use of a convertible Fujitsu with stylus and have wanted something this light for a while and miss not having a stylus for normal handwriting.
There are also some things I may not be able to live without which require Window$ but I'm going to give it another week and see if I can see a way to fit it into my normal working life.
If there weren't things that were broken out of the box (gps, compass) I'd probably be leaning more towards keeping at this point

-Immediately did a factory reset. Eliminated problem with screen coming back on after screen time out and an odd problem I had with my screen timeout being stuck at 15 seconds.
-Rooted with GingerBreak (make sure you lock in portrait during process)
-WPA supplicant
-changed phone.apk and telephony___.apk to .bak to kill the phone processes. Mad a HUGE improvement in an already satisfactory battery life. WARNING: This will brick your phone if you do a factory reset without changing them back.
-Installed ADW for my home screen
-Installed SyncSMS to get SMS functionality

Still on the edge
I like the screen and feel of it, but with Honeycomb there aren't many apps out there that run on it (without FC all the time).
I'm trying to justify keeping it for work, but there's no Activesync (without rooting), Calendar is a joke and other than playing movies/games on it what do YOU use it for?
I can't see dumping my laptop anytime soon, so my question is what are you using it for? Serious question.

I wanted the EEE TF as well but got the Iconia in the interim. I'm pleasantly surprised. I don't want the TF anymore. After playing with a friends, I'm not convinced it's worthwhile to exchange them. It has a gorgeous display and is a tad lighter but I'm afraid I've been jaded by the really bad things I've read about it and am convinced the first batch was very shoddy. Unfortunately, by the time it's released there will be competitors with possibly better options (toshiba, samsung, sony, htc, etc.)
My goal is to get something I'm 100% happy with. I'm 98% happy with the Iconia.
What's in that 2%? Limited video file and format playing ability and bugs due to Honeycomb right now.
Otherwise, hell yeah! I'd have liked an IPS screen. This AUO screen isn't bad at all but it's no IPS, right? Acer could have at least pegged Samsung for PLS.
It's also in wrestling with the idea of having the faith in Acer to believe they really will update and fix these things in the near future. These companies aren't known for keeping their products updated beyond a certain period. I can easily see their promised June update becoming Samsung-esque and not seen for months if ever.
That being said, I've entertained the idea of returning it and waiting to see what I can get in June. But tech is tricky and if you decide to wait, you can easily end up waiting forever for the next best thing as it's always around the corner. If the competitors are too expensive, it's not like the A500 won't be there for me to fall back on, it may even be cheaper! Of course, just like a cell phone - once you own one of these things you come to depend on it rather quickly if you're used to doing things a certain way.
I use it for everything now. My notebook sits in it's bag most of the time.
It's awesome for multimedia, period.
I use it in the kitchen and around the house to play music and videos if I don't feel like sitting in front of the TV.
I use it in the kitchen to look up new and different things to cook.
I use it as a visual remote for my PC (to control music or manipulate downloads). I use it in the couch to look up stuff I see on TV.
I bring it with me EVERYWHERE, yes...I now own a manbag.
I use it on the road when I'm out with the wife and she's in Macys/JCPenny/Kohls or any of those places I don't feel like venturing with her into for hours.
I use it when I'm at the cafe or out at dinner. I don't have it out all the time, but it's with me in case I want to use it and I must say, it's nicer than flipping out a netbook which I guess is ironic but I always thought that was so odd looking. You know, when people pop their netbooks out on a table in the middle of 4 people being social. For me it's a matter of looking up something quick and then popping it back in.
The list goes on and on.
It's basically replaced my android phone in its smart abilities while managing to be more comfortable in that the screen is bigger. It's replaced my notebook in it's lighter tasks like multimedia due to it being ultimately way, way more portable and touchscreen.
My dilemma is living without it for 2 months while I wait for something that I'm hoping will satisfy me 99 or 100%, should I decide to return it. I still have a few days to decide.

Of these 3 latest tabs, I think we have the best deal owning the Acer. I been trying to keep up on both Asus' and Xoom forums. Looks like the Acer has the least amount of bugs.
Both Xoom and Transformer continue to have bugs even after many updates. The only known bug that I think is real problem for Acer is the wake on sleep but that should be fixed with the update.
Im here in Cali and never got the update, but I don't have that problem

If knew "for sure" the update would fix the sleep issue, I would buy one again now (for the third time). Since I do not even trust myself, I will wait and see.

I keep recommending the Acer to people in other forums who are looking for a honeycomb tablet, but they all crow about Acer having a bad track record and the fact that it's not the thinnest and lightest device on the market. I'd much rather have USB host support and no bugs vs. thinnest and lightest with glitches, personally.

That all said, the sleep mode issue is a pretty dag-burn big bug and glitch. If it really gets fixed, cool- I will buy another, since I agree it's the best total cost alternative for features and function.

Transformer has had numerous Asus updates that tend to maybe make things worse for it. I think the only thing it has going for it is the IPS screen, but really, are you going to be viewing your Acer at 178 degrees? no. Our screen is fine, especiallly when you get some awesome wallpaper going on there.
But, yes, I know it sounds like this is another "I love my Acer Thread".
I just want people to notice that our Acer is by far, no where near as buggy as the Transformer and Xoom, other than the standard Honeycomb issues.

The reason why I think it might fix the sleep issue, from another forum:

Although I agree in principle, I've never owned a Transformer or Xoom so couldn't say from experience. But having poked my head into both forums over the last month or so, I do feel confident in having gone with the Iconia in that, it seems to me, there are far more 'troubled' users on the other forums than this one.
The lack of head-to-head Transformer vs Iconia reviews (that are granular and don't grant value to specs alone) are few and far between - and of those there are, they focus too much on specs and first impressions, not on enough on the full experience.
The Iconia would most certainly take the crown. But the Iconia is the less popular option, however, due mostly to misinformation and whatever hang-ups people have against the brand itself. I can't deny it's a solid user experience, with what I would refer to as 'basic' functions that all tablets should have for a price point that sets the bar - above and beyond.

What xoom bugs are you referring to? I've owned both at the same time for several days all the xoom bugs I experienced were also apparent with the Iconia.

I can't say exactly. Im just gathering my info from lurking in the other forums. Honeycomb on 10" tablets to compare within the forums.
I have only had my Acer. I played with the Transformer in Frys but my thought was that the transitions scrolling was noticeably slower than Acer. A coworker had the Xoom and took it back to BB within 4 hours. In his case, I think it was more Android related than the hardware itself. He walked out with the Ipad2.
Some of us don't have the time or maybe even the extra cash to make side-by-side comparisons. im just saying, in my opinion from what i read, It seems the others are more problematic than the Acer. Yes, the Acer has its own issues, but for the most part, I think our issues are more bareable than lets say, the Transformer dock not charging, or the Xoom Sd slot not recoginizing.
I almost took back my Acer to get the Transformer (being cheap to save$50). I am thankful I didn't.

I understand where you’re coming from and I do think the Acer is great too but these threads tend to be a little one sided (it is in the Acer forum afterall ). While I’m not accusing you of doing this many people in threads like this are just simply trying to justify their purchases. When I purchased my Gtablet a few weeks ago I was trying to convince myself upgrading to anything else would be a waste of money, I did the same when I purchased the Acer (I still feel as if they’re great in their price range). I don’t have lots of excess cash either but I was fortunate enough to play with the Gtablet, Acer and Xoom side by side for several days. I too watched all the forums closely and saw the dev frustration with the Acer and one who returned his after bricking it. In the end I chose the Xoom and decided the $150.00 premium was worth it for these reasons:
1) Working recovery. If you brick the Acer right now you have no way to return to US factory stock without sending it to Acer.
2) Dev support, while this may have to do with time in the market place the Xoom forum offered more possibilities right now, I realize this may change.
3) Accessories. This may seem trivial but it was important to me. Googling the word “Xoom” brought back a myriad of custom accessories like docks, car chargers and multiple cases.
4) Proven manufacturer support. When the Moto got 3.1 on launch that showed me that both Google and Moto were committed to keeping this product up to date. The jury is still out on what Acer is going to do beyond 3.1. I’m certain the Xoom will live on (well atleast for 18 months ).
5) The screen, don’t get me wrong, the Xoom screen isn’t stellar but the grid lines on the Acer drove me nuts, damn OCD!!
There are a few things I miss about the Acer, fully functional USB support being one of them. After owning virtually all of these devices though I have come to the conclusion that the perfect tab doesn’t exist. I really thought I was going to keep the Acer long term but in end the end I chose otherwise. Don’t get me wrong, I still believe that the Acer has lots of potential and will be a tough tab to beat once/if the source is released and we get a working recovery. I may be back if they do.
One more thing, the Xoom issues I mostly experienced were and are honeycomb issues. Running a customer kernel makes the xoom an absolute monster (IMO). You’ll read about more problems simply because more people have it and it’s been rooted and torn apart which opens the door to other stuff….

You wanted something more and paid the premium. I couldn't pay that much more as I would not want to root mine. I was in the market for a glorified Internet tablet and this is good enough. I too had the G-Tablet and sold it the next day.
Bottom line, Xoom works great for you, Acer works great for me.

Couldn't have said it better my self

having just looked at all 3, watching quite a few reviews, and lurking the same 3 forums for the past week, i finally bought one of them.
the transformer.
reasoning is, i've seen less complaints from them, the complaints that are there in general are more niggles about little things. also, it seems that asus' support is more involved in getting things updated. they've already received 4+ OTAs to update software, fix bugs, and remedy general problems.
granted, it does have its share of problems, but i spoke with my money, and bought the one that i felt was the best all around and grabbed the asus.

own the Acer and the transformer. Am on the second transformer and both suffer build quality issues.
Light bleed is noticeable when viewiong in the dark even at lowest brightness settigns. Also there is some flex or creak in the case.
The quality of the screen however is much richer.
The annoying alignment grid pattern of the pixels on the iconia bothers me because I usually view with it about 1 foot away and for them to not be noticeable to my eye s I need to hold the tablet more like 18 inches away.
Transformer is warmer and sharper without the grid appearance even at 6 inches away. Also off axis viewing is nicer on the transformer and I love the dock concept for extra battery life and more productivity etc while giving the adde dports for when I need them.
My Acer has been solid with only software glitches and 1 tiny dust spec under the screen but seems built more solid.
It ios thicker and heavier though and battery life is apparently a bit shorter but have not made a comparison myself.
Decisions decisions.....if i had no lightbleed hands down the transformer is better tablet for me but the iconia seems built better. I don't need a usb port on the tab if I have a keyboard dock. sure I i want access to an external HD on my tablet the usb port is ice, but chances are if I did I would want access to the dock anyway for the added battery life or the keyboard for creation work

My primary buying point isn't how customizable the tablet is (it's a factor sure, but a tiny one). No, the most important factor for me is the Out Of the Box experience. I still haven't made my choice yet, but I've been into the store several times and spent time playing with each of the Xoom, Transformer, and Iconia, and so far for me, the Iconia has the better OOB experience.
From outset, it just does MORE than the other two can do and that's an important factor because 95% of people who buy a tablet will not be rooting it.

I'm not sure I agree with you about oob experience. The Acer and moto were pretty even in that regard, the grid lines were pretty bad IMO. Without tweaking though the edge goes to the iconia because of cost. 95% of the general public won't consider rooting but 95% of xda'rs will.

Out of the box the asus was the best. It has dlna and cloud storage. It has built in remote desktop functionalityand it has the best office suite available.
For those that prefer produtivity the dock with keyboard is a definite plus.
I think of these three as a spectrum. Xoom is best built but screen is so so and it is most costly.
Iconia offers all the xoom does in a more affordable package. So i see no reason to get a xoom unless you want knowledge that google will always be supporting and updating its reference tablet.
Asus offers best value and modular configuratioon giving laptop ornetbook functionality. It has the nicest screen so far on a honeycomb tablet as well. Its only drawbackright now is lack of supply and some build quality issues which might be related.
Samsung sounds like it wants to be the ipad of android tablets. For those that dont carle about expansion it will be lightest and thinnest design. But it will carry xoom pricing for the wifi model.
For the masses it will likely be the most populari option as i suspect most tablet buyers want an ipad but dont want to be tied to apple and itunes and want flash in their browsers.

I love my Transfomer but I wish I had ??? and why.

I have had every tablet out, and the iconia was ok, the screen is not as good as the TF, but at least the browser does not crash as much, no lag while trying to type, and the usb...
I am looking at the thrive... if I know what kinda of glass it will have I would order one.

More than happy with my TF'er. Tried the Zoom, tried the Ipad2 but neither come close. I'm mildly interested in the GT 10.2 to see what the fuss is about but the lack of SD card immediately puts a dampener on it.

I have 0 lag and havent had the browser crash once. I have 2 usb's slots and both SD and MiniSD card slots. I use a wireless mouse and BT headset nd get over 24 hours of battery life on hard use. Hwat else could you ask for?

As a launch-day Pre purchaser who converted to Android in January of this year, I have to admit that I'm intrigued by the TouchPad. webOS really is SOOOO much better in terms of multitasking that I'd love to have it on a tablet.
However, there are three things that temper this notion. First, webOS does not and likely will not have the apps that I need for quite some time. The TouchPad won't even have Office document editing out the door, which is simply ridiculous. I can't believe that Samsung can completely redesign their tablet and release it in a few months, while HP can't get a single freaking app written that's absolutely vital to their product's success. Really, webOS made me promise myself never to buy something for a feature that's "coming soon."
Second, until a tablet has a keyboard dock as functional as the Transformer's, I'd have a hard time switching over. There's simply no better device for straight writing (i.e., just laying words down on the page) on the go. If HP releases a similar hybrid device someday, I'll think about it (assuming the apps are there), but Transformer is just a great all-around mobile device.
Third, while webOS is a nice OS in many ways, I'm disappointed that HP didn't design it to make better use of a tablet's screen size. Ultimately, webOS 3.X is just a blown-up version of the smartphone OS, with the same number of cards showing, only bigger. They could have done so much more with it. I really like how Honeycomb's screens can provide so much useful information at a glance. I often just turn my TF on, check to see if I have any emails, upcoming appointments, what the weather's like, etc., etc., and then just turn it back off. It's like a dashboard for my life, and so far no other tablet OS comes close in this respect.

I don't undestand why you would want any other tablet (at least any other android tablet)
The TF offers everything all the other android tablets offer PLUS MORE... Anything else would just be a downgrade.

the only thing I'm lusting for currently is a fully functional Netflix app. I really love to watch movies quietly at night and currently have to switch over to my Nook Color to do this. TF is awesome, working Netflix would make it total perfection for my needs.

The Transformer is better than the iconia. I had one, the screen on it sucks and it weighs a lot more. The only things it has over the transformer are the aluminum body (I actually prefer the transformer's body but most like aluminum that I've talked to) and the speakers have more bass. IMO the transformer wins hands down.

I wish it had normal browser like Chrome with extensions and such. I wish it had mouse hover capabilities.

I have a XFormer, but would love a Xoom, but only to see the benefit of Internal 3G.

Yep the grass always seems greener on the other side. I'm lucky enough to be able to try them all out. I've got the Asus Iconia, the Transformer, and iPad 2 already, and the Galaxy 10.2 is in the mail. Starting to get a better profile of how I use them. Want to copy your camera photos to the tablet? Something with an SD slot will make you happier. Have movies on an external USB hard drive? Having a standard USB port will make you giddy if you want a movie off that drive to watch on your tablet. These emotional highs are momentary moments though, and 99% of the time I'm just playing games, reading email, checking the web, facebook, youtube. Every tablet does these fine, and during that time I appreciate the lighter ones. They all have a way to add a keyboard to them. Bluetooth is easy, especially once you've paired a keyboard. Apple and Samsung have $69 keyboard docks for their thin tablet dock ports. You pay more to get the Transformer's keyboard dock, but you get a far better integrated and multi-functional add-on for your money. Hooking up to these is an inconvenience of varying degrees. You are not likely to have the iPad or Galaxy keyboard docks with you when you leave the house, so they suck. Good bluetooth keyboards are always wider than these tablets are, and as such less likely to fit in the same case with your tablet. If you've got a case for your Transformer, it is likely for netbooks and will hold both the tablet and keyboard together. So if you prefer a physical keyboard to an onscreen one, the Transformer is clearly the standout choice. You have to weigh that importance though, as that keyboard dock doubles the total weight you'll be carrying.
I've been working on a showdown between these tablets for my blog. Easy enough to ding this one and promote another for a slot or port or not. Not sure the small time these features come into play will aggravate a user enough to choose ports over weight/looks though. Money obviously play a role, as the difference between the Asus and a full set of features with its dock and an iPad with all the same features via add-ons is huge. It help that the Asus starts out $100 under the iPad. Samsung is certainly brave going head-on with Apple, I'll give them that. They must be thinking that iPad buyers didn't mind no MicroSD or USB ports, and millions were sold, so microSD and USB ports don't really matter. They might be right. Time will tell if they sell more Android Honeycomb tablets than Asus. I can't see them ever catching up to iPad sales though, with nothing to add value to iPad prices. Pay that much and you might as well get an iPad. JMHO.

I am a very happy Transformer owner, everything else (at the moment) on the market, even the ipad 2, would be downgrading.

I love my ASUS transformer too.
However, if I had to pick another table between xoom or samsung galaxy v2 10.1 or iPad.
I would get the Samsung Galaxy 10.1, I checked it out at Best Buy yesterday and it was pretty nice. No lag at all either and it was very responsive.
Sometimes my transformer feels unresponsive, and it lags but it could be due to my tons of widgets on the home screen.
However if Samsung did have a keyboard dock like transformer, I would hop on it however I heard their updates were lacking and slow to be released.
Though I like how its lighter, thinner the transformer, and looks a bit nicer. Also I enjoyed the PLS screen as it also had more VIBRANT colors then the transformer.

Iconia A500 or Transformer?

I am debating on which to buy. I've been wanting a tablet for awhile now and have slimmed it down to these two options, but would like some feed back if possible.
I'm looking for s-off and root (quickly glancing at the forums, it looks like both are able to achieve this. I like to toy and tinker with things and having a root, with s-off, is a must for this.
Are there any huge differences between the two? I am liking the additional dock available for the Transformer.
Going to post this in the Transformer forum as well. Iconia people, win me over!

The major differences are that the Transformer has that keyboard dock and a slightly better screen, while the Iconia has built-in USB host and slightly better sound.
I personally greatly prefer having the USB host port built into the device rather than in a bulky dock.
ASUS also appears to be doing a slightly better job of providing software updates than is Acer.

I'll be ordering an Iconia on Friday. I have seen both in the flesh and normal use as at work there's 1 guy with an Iconia and 2 with Transformers. The Iconia seems solidly built and no slower than the Transformer on 3.1, and the screens are almost identical. Not to mention the built in USB.
On the other hand both Transformers have been replaced already, one with a strange screen issue that looked like a liquid under the glass when you touched the screen, and one because the case doesn't line up properly - it creaks noticeably if you hold it landscape fashion.
Also I've been buying Acer kit for years (3 laptops and a netbook so far) and the oldest is still going strong after 5 years, no build quality issues in any of the Acer kit i've bought contrary to popular belief, and they've lasted longer than some of the so called premium brands we use at work.

I have a500 and a Transformer so, I think I can answer to your question... If you want my 2 cents opinion, the a500 is way better. I think the screen is more responsive and more brighten. Plus the transformer's screen get incredibly dirty very quickly. The usb thing has no comparison. Just, for example, I bought a cheap silicon keyboard and it works pretty well with the iconia. Same about the mouse. The transformer has just 2 advantages: 1) it's lighter 2) it has a way better microphone. About all the rest it is inferior or equal to the iconia.
If the mic, for you, is a must then buy a Transforemer. If it's not... then buy a a500.

Try both and decide for yourself. You will be happier.
Don't let others do your thinking for you.

If you can, definitely try both as bungaboy suggests, your own preferences may certainly steer you in a different path. In the end it could quite simply come down to something as off-the-cuff as the location of the front-facing camera.
In terms of companies, I currently have an Acer laptop (very happy with) and an Acer monitor (happy with), and have purchased and installed about 6 ASUS motherboards and video cards over time (only 1 less-than-stellar experience with those) so I'd happily recommend either company in general.

Just a quick reply before I go to work. I live in Japan. I don't have a Best Buy here. They have a Iconia A500 at the BX and I've played with it some, but can't compare to the Transformer.

Alright. Thanks for all your replies everyone. I am and will decide for myself but since I cannot try out both I was reaching out to the community to give me their pro's and con's so I can weigh them for my own decision.
I'll have to go back to the BX later and play around with the Iconia some more. I didn't really play with the form factor, but what I really like from the Transformer is the keyboard/battery/etc dock. From my understanding it'll be future-compatible too.

why do you like the dock? will you carry with you all the time? if not, pointless. if you want a tab and a keyboard, wait a few more months till the asus eee slide comes out. i got an iconia, and as much as everyone at work bashes me for it, i can do much more than their ipad2

I was going in with the idea of selling my laptop and leaving the dock at home and use while I'm there. And what is the eee slide? I was also looking at the ASUS W7 tablet they have.

Iconia is my preference... cause of USB port.

Is the Iconia capable of good tablet drawing?

lol, ignorance is bliss, eh? it is a well known fact that the Transformer screen is the second best android tablet screen on the market right now (after Gtab 10.1) while the Iconia screen is far behind.
OP, just go in store and compare the two side by side with the screen set at max brightness. You'll see the big difference especially when viewing from an angle. The Asus blows the Iconia away in this respect.
my 2 cents:
Asus Transformer
-way better screen (most important feature in a tablet, imho)
-a lot lighter then the Iconia (Iconia is the heaviest Android tablet)
-faster updates
-less freezes & runs smoother
-dock option
Acer Iconia
-USB port (the Transformer only has this on the dock)
-better built? allegedly. (my Asus is also very solid but the Iconia metal back feels stronger)
-better sound
-better camera (with flash)
For me it boils down to needing a USB port or not & to wanting the dock option or not.
If you don't need the USB port, then the Transformed is the obvious choice.
If you do (and don't want to spend the extra $150 for the dock) then go for the Acer.
Also if you really want a better screen and the dock option, again the obvious choice is the TF.

I just purchased the Iconia myself. But from forum postings of people who have bought both and checked them out, it seems people are generally more satisfied with the Transformer (apart from the people who got bleeding screens).
The guy above summed it up pretty well.

I bought both when the Staples coupon came out (Inconia from staples, TF from Office Depot), and kept them sealed in box for a couple of days while I did my research on which one I wanted to keep.
I spent a couple of hours over a few stores comparing and then read a bunch on forums, etc.
There is really no reasonable argument for Acer screen over the Asus. The TF is brighter and displays more colors, this is a fact, not opinion. I also thought things looked slightly sharper on the TF (perhaps it was due to the better contrast). I did not like the one port pulling all duties and its location (understandable as its for the keyboard as well). I have no intention of using a keyboard with any tab that use (I have laptops for that). The TF design appeals to me more, I like it's shape more.
I chose the Iconia over the TF due to the additional ports, better xda dev support and numerous reports of quality controls issues on the TF. Frankly, the last issue was the biggest factor in my decision.

The one complaint I have about the Iconia is the screen. It leaves MUCH to be desired. I'm not sure if it's a problem with the Iconia or with Android tablet screens in general, but you can easily see individual pixels on the screen if you hold the device closer than usual.
Text also is somewhat blurry, not sure if this is an issue with Android text rendering or with Iconia's screen.
Everything else is great though.

even tho the iconia is heavy keep in mind that all of the tablets are to heavy to comfortably hold with one hand for more than 5 min. soo I dont know how much the little wieght difference matters....

In all seriousness, you can't see it. I like the colors on both tablets, and the screen on the transformer is superb. But when I play a movie (the guy at the store let me try a video on the display transformer) I don't notice a difference. The black on the TF is a bit darker, and that's about it.
I didn't think that a built in USB was going to matter to me, but I am actually using it a TON. Thank you so much ACER!

What should I get this A500 or transformer?

I have got some bestbuy giftcards and now I want a honeycomb tab that is $399 so which of the two would you get or would you have picked the transformer over your Acer?

It boiled down to the USB port for me. I knew I wouldn't buy the Asus dock, so for me the Transformer didn't cut it. It's ultimately personal preference, as I think they're both great value compared to the competition.

I love the weight of the a500, its solid construction. The full usb did it for me also. But it is a fully loaded Hog. Love it, Went to best buy and felt up all of there tabs. Good luck with your choice, they all work really good. My choice goes to the a500 and soon the a100.
I have had excelent service and proformance from acer products over the years.

Here is my story. I knew nothing of Android tablet. First I drove to 5 different stores, but all out of HP TouchPad. Then I got:
1. Acer Iconia A100: Promptly returned it even with my lack of experience: poor screen, horrid WiFi signal (couldn't detect my router 35-40ft away).
2. Asus Transformer: Excellent device, liked everything about it. Then I found out about the Toshiba Thrive with full size USB, full size SD (+ SDXC support), full size HDMI. Returned Asus.
3. Toshiba Thrive: Excellent device, liked everything about it, good screen quality despite not IPS. Poor camera quality, no LED Flash, so far slower community development than other tablets.
4. Acer A500: Poked about this forum and found out how advance the commnunity development of the Acer A500 is. And the fact it has all the necessary ports including full USB and nicer looking than the Thrive. Sold. Much better WiFi signal than A100, on par with the Asus. It looks like I'm settled with this one.
Personally I would get the A500 over Transformer, due to its full size USB, which open up lots of features, such as connecting mouse, keyboard, game controller, flash drives, 3G dongles(?). I prefer the Acer microHDMI over the Asus miniHDMI, since my phone also uses micro. They both have good WiFi detection and same weight. The performance are basically the same. The Asus has a nicer IPS screen. I can't confirm it, but base on reviews, the Asus will have longer battery life.

Personally, I can never understand these questions, which have been asked ad nausium... You are asking in the A500 forum....we have A500's!!! We chose A500's. We did not chose transformers. It's like asking transformer owners which they would choose, in the transformer forum. Sheeesh. Sorry....just sick of the question.

i actually enjoyed reading the opinions because up until two days ago i was going to buy the transformer....or wait for the tf2, but decided on the Acer Iconia A500 because i can plug in any standard usb device without a dock. That and because i know they are all essentially the same device with minor differences.

Thanks alot for the replies peeps I actually choose the thrive because of the ports on it I travel alot and it was basicly free, because I had buy back on the Droid incredible so thanks I really wanted the a500 but best buy was sold out . Good thing I never looked into the thrive. Plus I was already running late for a flight so thanks alot guys! And to the guy with a stick up his bum yea I asked in this forum because I figured I might get a person that had the a500 and wish or bought something else.
The thrive all in all is a great choice for me as it has up to 130gb SD slot, HDMI not micro, mini USB, and standard USB, yes its a big tab but the rubber grin is really important for me lol sweaty hands and giving its as heavy as first Gen ipad I like that I don't want to break my new toy. And please I'm not saying this to be mean or anything I just wanted to share my thought since you all were nice -1 to share yours!

Please stop. Your post was decidedly negative. You contributed nothing other than to say "omg you suck for asking a question". If you dont like something you should just move on. I sometimes suck at it myself.

If you plan on doing alot of video chatting with the tablet, the A500 is kind of a pain because the FFC is off to the side. You have to hold the tablet at an ackward angle for the other person to have a good view of you.
The Transformer seems to have its FFC in a much better place - almost dead in the middle.
