Just curious. I've been using it for over a year since I had an Eris and switched over a white Fascinate I picked up for $150. It's $95/month for 450 anytime minutes/unlimited text plus free nights/weekends and UNLIMITED data at full 3G speeds. Plus, unlike ATT/etc the network is exactly the same, IE you aren't limited to a specific prepaid network. I mention it occasionally and people give me a flabbergasted look but according to the Verizon website they still have such a thing. Since apparently few people know about it, consider this your heads up if your contract is expiring soon and you want/need unlimited data for some reason. May not be around forever though. Who knows.

$95/month?! Your getting ripped off. If you own your phone w/o a Verizon contract, Check out PagePlus, a Verizon reseller (same service, lower prices).

I travel all over the country, so I have to make sure I have cell service in as many offsite locations as possible. Verizon is the only company that offers that level of coverage, and the small carriers that piggyback towers here and there don't cut it.
Plus, I burn through about 10gb of data every month. Lol

I guess it just doesn't sound like it's that much cheaper (if any) than regular post-paid. I'm on a family plan and have essentially the same plan you do and it's definitely cheaper than $95, but it's a family plan so hard to compare.
Ill hook you up man, i got a fascinate on the verizon 50 dollar unlimited plan with fast 3g (anywhere from 800kps to 1.5mbs depending where you live) and really its quite simple, takes 30 minutes at most if you have problems understanding it. i use about 5 gb of data per month LOL. plus i call and text all the time cuz i do bussiness id say the coverage is about the same on verizon post paid, maybe a bit less but for 50 per month its a great deal! i just finished my guide here on xda, its on the fascinate general. if you cant find it click on my user name and then go to statistics or the last tab and then it says "view threads" or something like that and it should pop out! good luck if u decide to do it !

Hi guys! Amazed by this forum, so much advanced users here...
I have been a user of blue angel for about 4-5 years, travelled with it in Europe, Asia, Americas, sank it, dropped it, loved it... got it from expansys long time ago...
Got my Touch HD yesterday, unlocked, nice and shiny. Impressed so far, no flaws at all, Edge is fast here! (I'm in Houston, TX now)
Question. I am with ATT, and have a basic plan that does not include internet. However I am able to use internet thru data connection on my Touch HD. Are they charging me for usage? Do I have to be subscribed to a more expensive plan to be able to use it? Well, I'm using it now...so does ATT know at all that I am using it and how does it work with them if they don't know what phone I have?
Free internet just sounds too good to be true...
Thank you!
Newbe, data is data it doesn't really matter the phone. I can throw my AT&T SIM in any phone and use the AT&T network. You probably had some form of default data set up on your SIM and I would be very surprised you're getting something for nothing. More probably you're going to be charged on a usage based per kb basis. I would suggest you contact them and get the all you can eat plan cause you'll need it. It runs about $30 a month. If you stick with the metered plan hang onto your wallet.

this is correct: any data capable phone can access the internet using pay-per-use and your charged for each KB of data, unless internet usage is explicitly turned off by calling at&t cust service! get on the $30 unlimited pda-connect data plan very soon, or you'll be paying through the wazoo

I noticed last night while I was paying my bill using 611 that T-Mobile (and I'm assuming that most of you have T-Mobile since this is the G1 thread) is having a promotion for unlimited minutes for $49.99 a month (plus taxes of course) and even better... there was no contract extension! It's also on T-Mobile's website listed as Unlimited Loyalty Plan.

The rep had to place me on hold for a good 5 minutes to look everything up and he sounded like it was market specific. But it can't hurt to look!
For those that are wondering I live in the San Francisco Bay Area but I am not certain what "Market" that applies to. Could be just the Bay Area... could be all of California... could be the entire west coast. But it can't hurt to look into it. Also there may be other qualifying prerequisites to be eligible. Since this is a "Loyalty" plan I am assuming that you must be a long time customer. As for myself, I have been a customer for 7 years.
I have also dug a little deeper and saw this information about it.
So check it out!
Yep.
If I can recall right, this offer will be nationwide (across the US) March 1st.
It includes 1 line of unlimited minutes ($49.99) and I think 2 lines at $89.99.
Worth a shot if your on a single line. Doesn't make sense otherwise, imo.

Do you know if this deal will apply to flex-pay customers as well?
@HayWire,
I'm not sure, but I'm leaning to think no.
Again, if I can recall correctly, the plan for unlimited minutes is for those that have a specific amount of minutes each month (eg 1000 mins for 69.99/mo, or 500mins for 59.99/mo)
I'll find out and let you know.
This is only for San Francisco Market now, From what I was told. No contract and depending on popularity it may go nation wide. Oh rep said if you have an account in SF and port in a number from other carrier you get a credit of $135.00 to your account.
T-mobile is making all kinds of changes then cuz my gf just bought that samsung behold & they told her she has the option to pay for it straight up or over the next 4 months. They may not be getting it with the G1 (maybe thats google's fault tho) but they are making some heavy changes with all this. Its all good in my book tho

well well, aint that a surprise, tmobile do act fast, my internet was cut of, so im stranged to use tethering,
Well, how much data have you consumed?
presumably 5 gb?
That's bs if you pay for unlimited. In any case I think they can do a service reset it doesn't effect anything accept your connectivity and maybe I'm not sure but possibly your data speeds its not a factory reset sorry if you dont find this helpful our if you already knew about it
Anonymous
Well quite a lot, I been hugging it for some days now, I might have consumed minimum 5gigs, win7 home, music and software updates to windows. So it might be more. Also they toggle your connections after 10G of data, it may say unlimited but its on their own terms

I am sure you could call t-mobile && get that slow down lifted.. After all, they do like to kiss our.. well you know
Thats pretty crappy.they haven't done that to me though and im on my phone all day download and uploading?i wonder why
Anonymous
Willnews I went overboard haha since my computer crashed I had to install everything, after that I downloadtef a crapful of music, haha I dont want to call tmobile I have no valid legal reason to tell them lol good thing in a week the "cycle" will start again
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
It it's unlimited, the msg only said they will reduce the speed. They never said unlimited at full data speed. Still better than att. They no longer have unlimited.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Try to change network mode to GSM only. They throttle WCDMA (3G) data speed to 50kbps or 60kbps around like. But they don't throttle GSM/EDGE connection. It's depends on signal strength but usually you can expect 100kbps to 120kbps on EDGE network. It's not excellent, but still better
Also next month tmo will start charging fir tethering.
Over half of att smaetphone users still have unlimited data.

Thoughts?

I hope to hell it doesn't go through. It would be bad for everyone including folks on Sprint, not to mention the people gobbled up from tmobile by ATT. There are still lawsuits going from when ATT and Cingular merged because of how ATT did the people that had Cingular. I just think prices would get higher and with less competition big red and ATT would nickel and dime everything even more than they do now and sprint wouldn't be able to hold out very long against 2 companies that would have 3 to 4 times the customers.

Wasn't it the other way around? Cingular bought out AT&T, AT&T disappeared then Cingular decided that AT&T was a more recognized name and changed their name to AT&T. If I'm wrong then sorry but it has been years.
I as well hope it doesn't go through it would sucks for tons of people

AT&T managers are a waste of human space. They treat their own employees like crap and do worse to their customers. A cap on usage? really!? yeah AT&T, go suck it. lol.
Unfortunately, despite the fact that this isn't in anyone's best interest, this deal is probably going to go through. Big business owns the US government. So, what Big Business wants, Big Business gets.
I especially like the idea AT&T is pushing, that this will provide improved use of spectrum. This from the company that is already failing to make full use of the spectrum they already have access to. They have also done a miserable job of network expansion, even though network congestion has been a thorn in their side for years. I wonder what makes the executives at AT&T think that having a larger, more neglected network will be good for them or us?

Okay. So I used to have a blackberry paired with an unlimited bis before I switched to android.
I didn't subscribe to a data plan because we finally now have wifi in the house. But now, I'm kind of missing emailing/chatting on the go. Even posting sns statuses whenever I feel like it.
So I've looked at some data plans my carrier are currently offering and found the following:
8.00 USD for 300mb
16.00 USD for 1gb
And that's monthly. The unlimited data costs about 26 USD a month.
Now my dilemma.
Here's my data consumption on wifi

As you can see, I consumed 20gb in 2 weeks. Granted, minus 10gb for youtube and the podcasts, still, that's 10gb in 2 weeks.
And specially now that I don't have a job, I just can't afford that unlimited data plan. So the only option that I'm currently looking at is that 300mb a month one.
Can I survive with only just 300mb a month?
I know that this has been probably asked a thousand times before, but I don't have access to a computer right now so I'm using Tapatalk. And the search feature on this is next to useless.
I hope someone can help me with this and give advice and steps to take in order to minimize my data consumption if I ever do decide to sign up for a data plan.
Sent from my MK16i using Tapatalk 2
Also. Can somebody tell what could android be possibly doing to consume this much data in background?
Sent from my MK16i using Tapatalk 2
The background data is for Gmail syncing and stuff I think. You'd be best turning it off and on and maybe limiting yourself to Edge/2G until you need the 3/4G so you don't use that much.
Well for the iphone, one big way of saving data is through Onavo.
It basically compresses the data on their server and then sends it over. maybe theres an android alternative
