What is "system/frameworks" folder for? Does it has anything to with 3g/2g connections or gsm signal?

Hey all,
is there anyway of stopping wm6 from connecting to gprs other than deleting the connection?
while i'm under 3g umts coverage, i would like it to be connected as the data is free... but when out of coverage or when my hermes decides its only going to join the roaming network (where i only get gprs), i get charged data.
any ideas guys? couldn't find much in the search. must be searching for the wrong thing or there doesn't seem to be a definate answer. ie, will allow umts, but not gprs etc. most seem to disable data all together.
anyone with Three in australia will know that Telstra charge a lot for using roaming when not in 3g coverage. there must be someone out there with the same dilemma?
Cheers,
Bill
can you just force 3g band only in phone setting?
possibly. at the moment everything is set to auto. so it defaults back to gsm (telstra network) when umts is unavailable. i just dunno what setting to pick for Three's umts. even then there is only one option for UMTS only. umts(2100+850) otherwise they are paired with gsm.
Any thoughts?
this app automatically do this job: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=503131
is there a program to do that for windows mobile? so that the connection wont fall back to gprs or edge and always use 3G or hsdpa?
in sierra wireless aircard there is an option to set that.
i think there's an option in setting, personal, phone
go to band tab and change network type to WCDMA and change band to UMTS
it works but now phone call also using the 3G network always. how to set only if making data call?

Click to collapse
If you want to do this band change easyly, can use the tools on
this post, if you want the phone change band smartly, better you flash a good WM6.5 ROM.
Check more info on this thread.
i have a similar question but it is related to forcing the phone to switch from 3G to HSDPA mode when active data transfer occurs..
thanks..
hi guys ..
i have desire .. and have problem with 3g ?
that i only want to open it when i want to open ?? NOT to be open all the time ??
and i have to sing at top >> E and G ?? what the diffrance ?
AND in mobile Network .. there's GSM and WCDMA ?? mean what ??
honestly, I haven't the slightest clue what you are trying to ask
but anyway..
I believe E stands for EDGE and G stand GPRS
I believe a gsm network is a type of voice network while wcdma, is specifically for data. You wouldn't see wcdma without gsm. I could be wrong on that though..
I don't know if this is what you were trying to ask, but you can turn off mobile data by going to settings -> wireless networks -> mobile networks -> Data enabled
alternatively, you could download apndroid from the market.
I have a Samsung I9000 and recently added internet onto my plan, though it only says edge internet. Is there anyway to get it to 3g?
Which country? You never rooted your device and also didn't plan it? Which modem?
Maybe you can check if your phone is forced on 2g!
Go to Settings -> Wireless -> Mobile -> Network (sorry i got i9001 italian! )
Here i can choose between:
_GSM (2g)
_WCDMA (3g)
_Auto GSM/WCDMA (3g, but switch on 2g when there's no signal)
If you have GSM or "2g only" that's the problem
Its a GT-I9003, I do not know what country it is from and I tried the network function it only gives me 2G stills.
Is it possible to get 3g on this phone??
I'll try to explain in different way
Follow the 4-step i made in attached image, what do you see?
(last image show what you should choose to have 3g network)
As you can see on gsmarena (sorry i cannot post links), your phone is theoretically perfectly able to use 3g!
I can't find this in any settings or screens, is there an app I can download?
