Wifi issues - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi those on xda. I've stumbled upon some issues lately on my defy. My phone only connects to open wifi networks. And when I'm at work. Its password protected. Ill enter the password. And it will say obtaining IP address. Then quit and say remembered. It even does this on my home wifi. Its kinda frustrating since I need since i use it so much. Any help? I tried clearing the caches. No luck.

Some ISP's are blocking the tmobile servers in their Domain Name Servers. Try changing your routers DNS settings to openDNS's(google them) and see if that helps. I had to do this to my work's ISP(comcast) and my home ISP (Uverse) for it to work, as soon as I made the changes it worked perfectly.
Ok makes sense cause the error says sumthing about isp, and I recently changed the dns on my router ill change it back and see if that works thanks dude

[Q] WPA2 Personal Problem

Hey,
I'm having major problems with wifi on my x10. Yesterday, the phone suddenly couldn't access the internet over my home wifi network, which has a WPA2 personal passphrase. The phone still showed up as connected to the network, but could not get online. I reflashed my x10 with SEUS twice, reformatted my memory card, triple checked my router settings, but no matter what I do, I cannot get WPA2 personal keys to work. WEP keys work perfectly. Does anyone have the same problem? Can anyone help me out?
Baseband .54
Stock Android 2.1
Thanks!

Use some kind of another WPA2 security. There are diffrent ones. Are you also sure that you've typed the correct password without typos?

I'll try a different security when I get home. Meanwhile, I'm 100% certain that I typed thy password correctly.
I'm still curious as to why it juststoppud working out of the blue...

(Try also adding your x10 its MAC-adress to the whitelist of your router and not the blacklist, that can also help)
My router has no MAC address policy active, whitelist or blacklist

My friend had this problem, but his just randomly started working the next day. Others have also said try factory resetting your router, uninstall any newly installed apps/mods, or if your router has, "Wireless Intelligent Stream Handling", to disable it.

Thanks for the pointers, I'll give it a shot when I get home. Hopefully mine will just start working like your friends.

WiFi password problem

Short story, I just took my GS4 GPE back to stock and did a factory reset. Now when I try to connect to a WiFi network it wants an 8 character password. The router only has 6 character password and was set up by the service provider so I am unable to change it. This was not a problem last week on stock rom.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Option 1: your network provider sold you the crap router which supports ANCIENT WEP encryption standard. You can just set it as the security standard in Advanced properties of the WiFi.
Option 2: log in to the router (if it is supporting WEP, hacking it would take some 5-10 minutes, including the time needed to learn it here), and change the WEP to WPA/WPA2.
Option 3: Call your net provider, kindly asking them to supply you with something what is slightly younger than the tyrannosaurus' bones...
Keeping the router as WEP is pure invitation for all of your neighbours to join and use the internet at your cost
Ok, turns out I was using the wrong cheat sheet. It does have an 8 digit password. I am stupid.
