Hey guys. I'm a bit new to this, and I have a few questions. 1. Does having a faster microsdcard worsen the battery life of android running on an hd2? 2. With set CPU clocked back to 576 MHz Max 245 min, and all the settings toned back, I barely make it through a days use on my nexus one 2.2 build. Is this normal? Does battery vary greatly from build to build? Is there a build known for good battery life?

Android builds will always use much more power than WinMo, reverse engineering the drivers is not ideal nor efficient. Some builds use less power than others, best try a few with the current widget installed.
This is a thread on SD card power, I'm not sure it makes a huge difference. If you check the power usage app you will the OS is using 2 or 3 times the power that the screen is - this isn't good for battery life.
Hi lads, iam new to this myself I got my hd2 about 2 weeks ago and havnt had out of my hand since.. the only changes I have made was download hspl3 & flash radio 2.14 and I am currently running darkstones froyo 2.2 and I love it.. the only prob I had for my self was battery it was eating it.. when screen was off I was getting around 168ma and using phone was was up to about 600ma.. after about a week of searching I found out a few things and now I get a full day wit heavy usage. I downloaded setcpu, advanced task killer, green power free, changed a few settings on my phone and now I have a battery tats just as good as running WM.. ill get the exact settings up for u later if u want... hope it helps
after doing a task29, i loaded "vbn reloaded" (minimal winmo rom) ;
use EBL android loader and load mdeejay EvoSense 2.0 revolution ;
using "currentwidget" my battery usage is only 7mA idle with four email
accounts getting updated in the background.
Been using android as the (only) daily OS
z
ps just did a rm /data/system/batterystats.bin
need to see if it charges to "100%"
if only battery usage GOES DOWN WHILE ACTUALLY USING ANDROID,
that would be penultimate
(ultimate obviously is NAND boot )

Hello to all, iam using the android shubcraft version on my hd2 and i cant charge my device 100%. It stops on 85%. Did you guys have an idea??

I've been testing 2 different batteries fully charged with phone off. Using current widget they get the same readings about 7ma with screen off and average 200 on. One battery drains at about twice the rate of the other. Im pretty sure one is defective. I've cycled both to make sure. Also running on wm I get the same experience. If your lucky enough to catch a battery problem in the first 3 months of purchase from t-mobile they may send you another like they did for me.

heres a good thread on conditioning the battery

as far as sd card speed, a faster card will use less system rescources due to faster read/write speeds, ie: the cpu is under less load for a shorter period of time.
faster io performance = better battery life.
side note, underclocking to far will hurt battery life. this is due to it takeing longer to complete tasks. so if your like me and do a lot of turn the screen on, check some thing , turn it off, then the longer the screen's on the more your draining it.
Hey guys.. I'm using Cotullas stock Desire HD nand rom... My battery last about a day with a few calls/sms...(Today i woke up and my phone was dead)
With SD card builts i have 2-3 days battery life with only a few calls/sms! Is there any other new NAND built that battery drainage is ok?
Since I've installed a NAND Android build, my phone lasts much longer than with SD card builds.

LOL! WTF? Maybe because you have a T-Mous or something?
What built do you have?????
I'm with Cotullas stock Desire HD too. And now, sometime I see 3ma in standby.
Till now I've never see less then 4ma. So, for me, it`s better with nand Android
I have autosync active... all the time.(weather, email, facebook...)
You can check programs... some program may be is draining a lot of power.
Did you test with clean ROM, without any installed programs?

OhhhhhK....... So now i understand that T-Mobile hd2's have better battery life with NAND builts! I am suing same Rom as you guys... I don't have any programs installed... at first battery looking just fine...But after one day my phone died. My maximum Phone's Up-time were 26Hours with this built!
Can you please tell me the widget you are using fo mA?
where can i find cotulla's desire hd based nand rom? couse i can see only desire based one.(my hd2 isn't tmous)(exept grauners)

there is a Desire HD rom, not made by cotulla, but Gauner, in the Android development section.
Guys, which software do you use to to check battery drain - I cannot see where the mA statistics are reported, only what is using my battery.... Thank you

Ap is free on market.
Also try this build:

I've been going for 27hrs now on the same battery with over 40% still left! I have only made 1 call, but used it lots on wifi and SMS.
Awesome, the battery usage i'd say.
Is your wifi on ? i have a normal HD2 (Not Tmouse) and i had massive batt drain above 50mah sleep until i turned wifi completely off.
now i get 2-5mah sleep.
I have wifi on. Its in 3g in standby mode. Have u turned off wifi location setting. That helped alot in all builds.

Everyone got 60-70ma in standby after making a call with cotullas build.
Change the kernel to this one and it's fine after that

Hey guys, just wondering what the best Gingerbread ROM is for the HD2.
Thanks.
The one you prefer, after trying all that is available.

Well is there one that stands out above the rest or anything?
I've only found 2 Gingerbread ROMs on here so far.

i don't know why so much people are asking for the "best" rom, instead of testing them by themself. tastes are different and in case of gingerbread you don't have much options...
i love mdj's gingerbread 1.8a - everything works with awesome speed.

hows your battery life? I've tried ALL of the froyo nands. I've been wanting to switch over to gingerbread but I'm waiting until the major bugs get ironed out. Battery life being the biggest one.

you complain about battery life on ginger bread? for me gingerbread has by far the best battery life. hd roms and builds drained my battery very fast - especially when i'm using the phone a lot. i just flashed 1.8a some hours ago (used 1.5 some time ago), so i can't tell you much about total drain in hours. but from what current widget says, standby drain is 3-4ma.

I'm not complaining about gingerbreads battery life. I was just asking. I haven't run it yet. I've heard that battery life is terrible on it.
I'm using TopiaHD nand (2.2.1) and getting about 2mA standby
As well another concern of mine is TMOUS mms. I do a lot of picture messaging and the blurry MMS kills me. TopiaHD has perfect TMOUS mms.
So with battery life not being terrible on 2.3......last thing is the MMS. Is there any word on that yet?
don't feel attacked by my words. my english isn't good enough to express exactly what i want to
well can't tell you much about mms, since i'm not using it. if you get 2ma on a hd build you should stick with it. i got 3-4ma in standby on gingerbread, compared to hd builds i used before with 5-7ma standby it's a hugh improvement. especially as i said before, it lasts much longer while playing around!

you should ask the devs of course.

That's an almost impossible question to answer as there are so many different factors involved which can affect battery life both on a custom rom and a stock one for example.
signal strength
push
gaming
screen brightness
Everyone will have a different experience and your best bet is to try different rom's and choose the one which suits you as a rom which is great for them may not be great for you.
If some rom creator would make make a black-red theme for his mod it would be probatly the best mod... Of course with all other goodies and tweaks.
Black-red theme because it would drain the lowest energy from the battary in the standart screen mode, but since we all use mostly different apps with different colors it will vary anyway.
To be fair, although it is purely anecdotal, people who have tried different ROMS while going through the sameness of their daily lives should be able to make a relatively valid comparison of battery life.
All the custom ROMs out at the moment are extremely close to stock, so I doubt there's much difference.

It appears the battery indicator is often way off. I let mine drain as much as it could til it would not boot at all, then charge it for 6 hours. Now it seems to last twice as long on stock (2 days with a lot of use)

I'm going to try this right now. I'll just let it stream some music over wifi at a high bitrate to drain it quickly. And using GPS, Blue-tooth. Playing music through PowerAmp at the same time.

That would be funny if a lot of the battery problems are actually because we keep thinking it is flat when it isn't - it is just being mis-reported. Kind of iphone batterygate in reverse.
I had a lock up on my device the other night but didn't realise until the following morning when I found the device unresponsive and stuck on my last screen. Although I had to pull the battery to regain control, the screen had stayed on all night because of the freeze and the battery meter graph was red for about 7 hours. The screen was still on and bright before I pulled the battery though.
Think I will also try ignoring the meter today.

Hi everyone,
I have a big problem of battey usage on Android...
I flashed the NexusHD2 rom in a first time and i realised the battery life was very bad ! (I lost 3% for 5 minute of use !)
I flashed the famous Typhoon CM7 rom and it's the same...
My Radio is 2.15.50.14 and i use CLK.
Thanks for your help
Try a different kernel. That helped in ICS, so after some trial-error you should find a good one.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA
What kernel is the best for it ?
I use Hyperdroid w/ seader r9 kernel. I get pretty decent battery life with it. But you also have to remember that the HD2 is a bit older so it has a smaller battery and less power-efficient parts.

Agreed, i flashed STOCK Windows Mobile 6.5 from T-Mobile and the battery lasted exactly the same time as with Android on it. I found that the ROM/Kernel combinations only matter a little. The phone alone has horrible battery capacity.

A bit?! Lol that would obviously help a lot. I'm not quite sure how accurate CurrentWidget is, but in terms of standby battery drain I get 5ma drain with wifi on on my phone. On the same settings on my Mum's Desire S she gets 26ma. However she gets great battery life, which I would only guess is due to the larger battery (and the fact that she barely knows how to use the phone, so the screen isn't on very much at all).

I use batterymonitorwidget pro. And i get around 5ma with wifi and cellular on.
Try using an app called JuiceDefender - it works really well at extending battery life. It basically lets you tweak loads of options to do with data and syncing, so you can have it set that data doesnt run when certain apps are open, or data is off when the screen is off, etc.
There's an ultimate version available, but it is £4.99 from the play store. But I guess that'd be cheaper than a new battery?
The same problem occured to me a few weeks ago. I have been using HyperDroid-CM7 which worked quite decent for 5 or 6 months and had very good battery life. ABut a few weeks ago suddenly the battery life became to awfuly decay, wasting 20% of the energy for idle hour instead of the normal 1-2. I changed the rom to the NexusHD2 ICS port and the battery life slightly improved but rhe problem stays the same. Could it be because the battery itself is broken or some software calibrations are needed (I haben't done any for an year since I bought the device)
