I've opened this thread because I want to collect some statistics. Please participate in the poll.
Please click on 'Yes' only if you haven't unlocked your bootloader.
I have some targets for this i.e. the poll will only be counted only if it has 100+ participants, otherwise ignored.
Thank You.

No, dude it is outdated. We need to upgrade our kernel for better performance. But this will be helpful for those who can't open their bootloaders so yeah useful for some people.

yes plss
I tried to unlock my bootloader once and it just end with a hardbrick and it takes 1month for the se service center to repair my unit

reason
Reason is simple. I had a simlock. For now there is no safe way to unlock bootloader and the simlock NOT to come back.
Cheers,

yea i want it on stock kernel i have unlocked my bootloader but i want it for those who cant its the best rom ever and i want it for my other brothers as well

I want more ROMs on stock kernel.
11w48 I bought my x8 almost 2 months ago and the first thing I tried was to update it. Then I realised that my phone will never get past 2.1 ,so I read that I can manually install 2.2 or 2.3 ROM. And a week later my phone was running gingerdx. But I wanted something more, I wanted a custom kernel and I was very disappointed to read that I can't unlock my bootloader. I check the development section about 10 times a day and Im very happy when I see a new ROM or a ROM that gets updated. But most of them are for alfs or nAa and I feel like noone cares about the people who can't unlock their bootloaders. I voted YES. Thank you.

I guess the development of this rom will released till xmas if we wait the 100voters because not all is participate...

As of now 42 have voted with 31 for and 11 against. Guys please don't vote against there are lot of your brothers who can't unlock their bootloader..please please vote infavour.

YES please
Well as said before, many of us cant unlock bootloader and there are few roms to pick from that are updated for us. I would really like to try this ROM. And would like to see other ROMs updated as well. We all want the same thing. A smooth, good looking rom that is up to date with the best modules, speed mods, and completely works. I have found a couple. but most you gotta enable, and update modules. Some dont even have any modules, so you got to use root explorer to install them yourself. Thank You for asking this question. Hopefully it will get more attention to itself and other roms that wed like to see on stock kernel. Oh and a bunch of yes votes.

Yes we need more Rom's for stock kernel as I don't want to unlock bootloader. My x8 11w01 so should be fine to unlock. I hope for ics on stock kernel but this is not looking promising.

X-play custom rom

Hi I'm new to the custom rom's and instead of searching through countless topics, mixing up instructions. I was wondering if I could get some directions.
Play is unrooted 2.3.3. I would like instructions on how to put a custom rom on the phone, and which custom rom would be recommended. Thanks in advance people.

is your phone fastboot enabled? (does the notification light in the power button turn blue if you hold the search button and then connect the usb to computer?)
If you want a custom rom but dont want to search and read these forums, i give your phone a week before you brick it.

or we could help people within the comunity to understand what's out there, the risks involved and how to get around the problems that could arise? we all need things explaining to us once in a while.
Oh im sorry i see your point, it is always good to be helpful, i am trying to be helpful as well when i say you should search and read, i mean look at all the countless threads where people didnt want to read, theres like 3 help im bricked threads per page.
lol. i know what you mean. and i know it can be frustrating. it's just a shame that the play is so much more complicated than the x10 that i was previously on. it was all flashtool and update.zip stuff. practically unbrickable!! loved it. fastboot and adb complicate things, and i feel that some of the tutorials can be a little confusing to total noobs. so we need to be accomodating to their lack of knowledge (i hardly know anything, so i'm still quite noobish), but also, people need to accept their own actions and consequences. not sure what i'm getting at now, but things need to be simpler for people who want to start out
Actually the way of installation is exactly the same for any custom ROM in this phone.
1) unlock your bootloader, either for free if you bought a factory unlocked phone or for some cash sending Alejandrissimo a PM, which you have to use if your phone is branded and/or Sim locked. You only need to do this step once.
2) install a custom kernel. There are two: DoomLord's kernel and the Cyanogen Mod kernel. The latter allows you only to install CM7. Doom's allows you to install the others.
3) Enter in Clockwork Mod recovery and install the ROM you prefer as long as your kernel of choice supports it.
As to which ROM you should pick, I use CM7 because it's stable and fast. Visit those threads and see for yourself which is the one you like best.
my personal favorite (until cm7 became more usable, and also because i like dooms kernel) was zerojay's aptly named zerorom. it's a very clean and fast sony based rom full of optimizations and tweaks. i'm currently trying out the FXP028 release of cm7 to see if it's more to my liking than it was in previous releases.

You won't brick it, if kernel is incompatible device with either not boot, or bootloop, flahing stock rom with flashtool will fix it though.

[POLL] Official CWM Rom Manager Support.

Ok guys im making this thread to see who would like to see official CWM Rom manager support, not because I have the ability to do such a thing, it requires our rom and kernel devs.
You need unlocked bootloaderand also doomlords boot manager (to get cwm recovery). Also you need to download rom manager from the market. When choosing the recovery to flash you need to choose htc desire hd.
I was playing with cwm rom manager just now and backed up my rom (wb v6) in one click, phone rebooted and entered recovery and backed up then rebooted upon completion automatically. You can also download roms and google app packages ota from their server from the app. There's even a couple of premium features if you buy the full version.
I want to see some x10 roms up there from our amazing devs and to be able to make the most of this amazing tool.
Im making this thread for people to post their opinions to get devs attention not to give step by step instruction on to use any tools to get your phone bootloader unlocked or flashing boot manager.
Opinions only please.

ROM Manager will never support X10 in flashing recovery from the app. The reason is we can not flash kernels from the os/phone right now. You can select manual override and select a device.
But if remember correctly there was already a thread on this though.

I know search in XDA app is not good
But what can be interesting and helpful is to get OTA updates. It will be great.

Yeah I've used it on my other phones..
As far as ota updates with no radio or kernel upgrade, that would work.
Like I said it would be limited though.
I don't know why x10 can't flash kernels, etc. since the unlocked bootloader. I think that would just require further development and a lot of devs have left

I think maybe we need zdzihu to come back to flash ftf and stuff. I think our bootloader is cracked but the flood gates aren't fully open if we can't write to where ever the radio stuff goes.
I guess we can only hope. Would love to be able to use all this stuff to its full potential and do away with the flashtool which is good but not very convenient if your on the go.

Fastboot refers to procedure consisting of
phone part and user part (run on PC) which suits
to update the system over USB (ROM , SPL,
splash screen), mainly it 's used to flash recovery
or custom splashscreen. As long as you follow
the procedure, it 's safe to use it. You don' t
need to install it, it can be used on every
Android system (client part comes with Win SDK
and can be downloaded for Linux also).
With most phones you don't have to flash things this way though, you can boot into the bootloader and flash files manually from your sdcard, our into recovery for roms, etc...

I think i read that SE disabled fastboot on x10, im sure i read by azuzu it was disabled. The 2011 xperia range got life easy with sony willing do offer a service for this. why did they make the x10 such a problem child?
I guess though its fair to say they appear to be learning their lesson by offering bootloader unlock for 2011+ range, supporting devs, giving phones away, having proper multitouch, 16m colours and looking at bring out dual core phones.
Its too late for some as people moved on now but if you asked people if they reckoned SE would do all this in a couple of years tehy would turn round and say yeah right! IM glad i stuck it out and its been totally worth it to have my x10 how it is now and love it.

bootloader and kernels

Okay now this is a guide for maybe noobs and mostly software modifiers.Hi reader. thanks for reading lol. now this piece of work is something that even educates me. welcome to wilbso's unlocking bootloader and adding kernels guide. im gonna try and keep this short so you dont nod off...
What is a bootloaderWell...a locked bootloaer (normal) is something that stops you from adding custom kernels. you think that rooting your phone and loading a custom rom is all. well you thought wrong. yes you can install drivers such as multitouch etc by rooting but unlocking your bootloader is a totally (almost) different thing. now, these days, gingerdx requires linuxdx-which requires unlocking your bootloader. unlocking the bootloader can either end up in satisfactory... or... full and complete brick. now a full brick is-blah blah blah ( i will make a seperate thread for what type of bricks there are and what they mean)
so, basically unlocking your bootloader properly free's your phone. still think your up to it? wow your pretty brave lol...
What is a custom kernel?A custom kernel is something other than a stock kernel.need anymore?
It is something that improves your phone. make it stand out. it can also improve the performance of your phone. if you would like to see a guide on how to build a custom kernel then click here
how to unlock your bootloader. I have unlocked my bootloader and I followed these threads. It would be a good idea to follow this and this
but when i did it i downloaded flashtool, s1tool (to check if my bootloader was unlocked) and something else ( i cant remember what it was called but it ran in my terminal i think). when i did unlock my bootloader i checked it with s1tool (i cant remember if THATS right either though lol) and i successfully managed it ut i still recommend reading the links that i put.
please, do hit the thanks button on my posts and the posts i put links to. i would greatly appreciate it.
kernelsi have looked at many different kernels since august ( the month i joined xda) and they all look cool.
flash them by a flashtool. i now run linuxdx v04
here's some kernels i have come across:
A gingerbread kernel
Linuxdx v04
Alfs for gingerdx
If you have any questions plese post them here or my FAQ or my latest guide to roms and mods. Also i am not responsible for any damage to you phone
And remember to press the thanks THANKSbutton
NO trolling here is tolerated either. cheers!

is ther any ICS roms for verizon R800x

hey my play comes in the 3erd and i will like to know is there any working ICS roms for it and how to go about doing every thing i need to. i use to have the lg ally running velocity v1.2 but by the looks of it with my new play i have flashing roms and recover look way harder then the ally was so i need some info guys and a guide and what roms are save to flash and what recovery do i need to have also and thanks for you help also!!!
I havent seen any ICS roms for the r800x but recovering/flashing roms is made very very easy with this from the android market "Xperia CWM Auto-Instaler"
You don't even need to unlock the bootloader, just needs to be rooted and then go about setting up the Xperia CWM Auto-Instaler and just make a nandroid backup. I would reccommend using Cola's rom or IT-ROM (which is based off of Cola's rom) for the r800x, they both have worked perfectly for me and I'm currently running IT-ROM which definitely makes the r800x run much smoother/faster.
Wifi, 3g, sms, ect all worked without any issues, and if you're somone who is worried about being able to overclock, I know someone is working on that with Cola's rom, but I dont think it's finished yet. But, those roms take care of basically any speed issues one may have with their r800x, it definitely did the trick for me.
Good luck

How are planning on installing the ROM without recovery? Seriously, read everything again so you don't brick your phone.
And make sure you're installing a ROM for locked bootloaders.... If you try to install that CM7 ROM it'll likely never boot again.

you can unlock your boot loader it just cost $$ , someone with setool , a paper clip and not minding voiding your warrantee. I would not suggest it until you've gotten a bit experience under your belt but when you get there its worth having done in my opinion , many people vary on this subject and they're right also.
There is limited real benefit to unlocking the R800x, since the devs have been focusing on the locked ROMs... Not much out there, unless you're planning to develop it yourself.

Kernel

Hi guys,
I need some help, sorry I'm a noob with defy... I'm trying to find a good kernel to flash but I was not able to find any.. I'm looking for both performance an battery life wise..
Can you recommend me a kernel and if possible get me a link of the thread please?
Sent from my MB525 using xda premium
You can't just flashh a kernel, first you must use a rom which works with that kernel, if you wanna a good batt life flash CM72, has a great batt life and works great
Sent from my MB525 using XDA
Are you sure? I have a Vibrant and I think it's quite possible to use a stock rom with a kernel of your choice on it. I'm new to the Defy as well, so I would like to know why it's different for this phone. I tried searching for an answer, but I can't seem to find any posts or articles specifically relating to the Defy and kernels. Pretty much everything just involves roms.
that's because the bootloader of defy is locked .. ;( ... Samsung has unlocked one you can put any compatible kernel in it .. but in defy .. only either FROYO one or GINGERBREAD one is the option :|
On Defy we have just two kernels, the GB and Froyo Kernel both signed by Motorola, we can't use custom kernels cause a locked BL, the GB is from the Defy+ Stock Rom, and the Froyo from Defy Stock, i never tried really the GB kernel over the Defy stock, maybe can work, but it will not give you a big difference in performance or batt, cause the Motoblur, first of all, root the phone, install 2nd init and then you can flash the GB kernel aka CM9 kernel here in the forum, but i suggest you to flash CM7.2

Didn't know you can't flash a custom kernel (I have a Nexus S and you can with that one) , thank you for letting me know

Ah, that's a bit of a disappointment, but it's good to know! Thank you all for answering. However, is there really no method of unlocking the bootloader? I'd appreciate it if someone could explain exactly why that is. Sorry if this has been asked before.
