Connection Limited? - Windows 8 General

I have windows 8 installed on my acer aspire notebook. I have a linksys wrt160n and when I connect to the network it says connection limited. The internet works fine, but I try to use apps it says I'm not connected to the internet. Any fixes for this? P.S. I have updated my drivers and status is the same. Also when I connect wired everything is perfect.

I have an Acer Aspire too, If I restart my computer I always get Limited connectivity on start up I then have to troubleshoot the connection and it clears the problem. I wonder if the Acer (broadcom) drivers are simply not 100% compliant yet. I doubt it has anything to do with your linksys, but I could be wrong.

try this,it may help u too
just go to ipv4 properties of ur connection(lan of wifi) and put the following
ip address 192.168.1.110
subnet mask automatically
default gateway 192.168.1.1
In dns server
8.8.8.8(this is google's dns server)
8.8.4.4

Troubleshooting does not resolve the issue. And the google DNS servers don't either. Any other ideas?

Bah that's evil. Beyond a usb WiFi dongle I'm at a loss. Personaly, just as a test, turn it back on afterwards obviously, try turning off all WiFi security on your Linksys & see If you have the same issue.

Wireless Problem

Done a search on various site but still no joy.
Just got a o2 XDA Mini S yesterday. But I cannot get it to connect to my wireless network at home. Its an open network, with a laptop,3 PC's,2 xbox's accessing it various times of day.All connect no problem.
My xda says my network is available, but cannot connect to it. Do I need to put in IP addresses in manually ? On the network cards section, it the SDIO WLAN wireless adapter that is used ?
Have tried allsorts,
First Question,
Is your WiFi router set to DHCP mode. If so then check that your device is also set to DHCP mode. If not change router to DHCP check that all your other devices are set to DHCP then you should automatically be allocated an IP address. A useful utility is WiFi Companion.
This scans for available networks and allows you to connect. it will also show you the IP address you have been assigned.
You could assign an IP address manually but this will have to be changed every time you walk on to another network. DHCP is better.
Regrads
Thanks for the info DW, it is my router, popped round a mates last night and it connected to his network ok.
Will check what you said and the firewall
not sure by what you mean exactly by open network.
but are you using MAC address filtering?
when I got the Sony Laptop, I was so eager to get it all setup etc, that I forgot bout the filtering, it would see the network, but refused to connect.
I'm having the same problem. My Exec can see the network but not connect. I investigated it a bit more and for some reason it keeps trying to use the same IP address as my laptop. It also cannot connect to the net to update Avant Go when it's syncing (via my laptop).
I've tried connecting with all other devices switched off, to avoid the IP address conflict, but still cannot connect to the internet.
I'm pretty much stumped.
Setting the Wireless power setting for best performance was the trump for me.
On my Vario - Settings - Connections - Wireless LAN - Power Mode
Thanks for the suggestion. I gave it a try but unfortunately it didn't help.
If my laptop is switched off my Exec can connect to my D-Link router, but I cannot access any internet resources. I presume that somewhere in the settings is the solution but I can't find it.
EXCELLENT db44!!!
For some reasons setting wireless "best performance" wortked for me too. Wizard (QTEK 9100 - gray market I guess as QTEK did not register on their site for me). I will still try Opera too.
Kind regards,
Oleg.
www.nano-science.com
same thing happened to my qtek. it detected the network but could not connect and sometimes when it got connected, i still couldn't surf the net. is there anything in the settings that i'm missing? i also tried to enter the IP address manually but no luck either.
My O2 XDA Mini arrived yesterday. It sees my wireless network (as well as two others in my neighborhood) but cannot/will not connect. I've tried everything I've read above - which confirms I'm on the right trail, but...
The D-Link DI-624 wireless router is in DCHP mode. I've dropped all security for connection trials. I've put the MAC address of the XDA in the router, just in case. I cannot find the IP address of the Mini (how do you do that?), but have tried with and without allowing the router to assign it a random and an assigned IP address. My router does NOT have the default (198.162, etc, etc IP address.) so I've been careful not to blindly follow standard instructions. Of course, I have tried with specific IP addresses, default gateway (router), etc, etc.
One clue is that after trying for a long time to connect to the networks it finds, I got one error message from the XDA saying it could not be assigned an IP address from the network(s). Good clue - wish I know what it means.
There are only limited settings to check on the XDA, so I'm wondering if I'm missing something on the router. Any ideas? Many thanks.

Wifi Problems On Cingular 8125

Hello to all
I have problems trying to connect through wifi on my new 8125.
After reading a lot of threads, i downloaded a program called hitchiker, who solves the wifi connection a lot easier and faster, but i keep getting the same error, the wifi connection appears, it connects but can not solve the ip address with the dhcp server and fails...
Can anyone told me if this is a hardware problem or a firmware issue?
my router is a netgear WG602 v2 with the last firmware available.
Thanks and happy new year to all!!
ddo you have mac filtering on? if so try turning it off
No, i used to have a wep security password, but i reset all settings on the router to factory, to try to connect.
i also have a laptop and a psp and both connect great!!
dont know what the problem is here, but its frustating...
I make it to work
first i did a hard reset, then i check on the log of the access point, and it was going through and forwarding the connection to the adsl router, but the problem apparently was on the dhcp server on the router.
i add a fixed ip, and now it works
still not working on dhcp but at least its working...

I'm having almost the same problem.
First I've tried to connect on my open lan in my house. I could connect, but couldn't get an IP automaticaly.
Today I went to the mall to try some open wifi lan. A friend of mine, with a Nokia n80 succsessfully connected with one of the hotspots. I've tried and couldn't get an IP. Suddenly, don't know why, I got connected, but couldn't surf at the web.
Then I realized that the fixed Ip that I've set before was still on. Changing it for dinamic didn't work.
So, I still can't get an IP.
Any Ideas?

Share internet in vista with ad hoc network

I have tried for a while to share my internet connect ion from my vista laptop with my wm device over wifi and could never get it to work.. last night I got it working by giving my device a static ip and maually configurin g dns servers. I think the problem is that with dhcp enabled vista wants to give me an ipv6 address, and perhaps wm does not know how to properly ignore ipv6 requests. With dhcp enabled if i look under the network adaptor settings the server assigned ip looks like a v6 address. I tried disabling v6 on all my network adaptors in vista but still no go. Is there a fix for this?
Go to the Vista machine. Open up Help and Support and Type in:
Set up a computer-to-computer (ad hoc) network
Should be the first link.
Just remember, once you disconect either the PC or Phone you will not be able to re connect correctly and the entire process has to be reset up.
So keep in mind dont tell either device to remember the network otherwise you will end up with hundreds.

HD2 Android WiFi Problem - Experience Sharing

The strangest thing I have even experienced, and perhaps can save you time and headache.
** Summary (for those not wanting to read the whole story, but just the fix)
If your HD2 Android can connect to your home WiFi but cannot access Internet, check if your WiFi network uses a 192.168.20.x IP subnet address. The HD2 Android's USB port uses the same subnet, causing a conflict. If you change your home WiFi to use any other subnet, it will work fine.
** The Long Story
Been reading and admiring all the Android developments in XDA-Developers for some time, finally decided it was time to give it a try. Picked one of the more popular and stable MDJ Froyo (Desire HD) for SD and loved it.
Problem is couldn't use the Internet via WiFi from my home. Internet via GPRS works fine, Internet via USB/PC works fine, just not WiFi. The connection to WiFi is successful, picks up a DHCP IP address just fine, but no Internet.
Oh well, perhaps there is a WiFi bug in HD2 Android not reported so never mind.
Wait! On a business trip, when HD2 Android connecting to the hotel's WiFi, Internet works fine! Subsequently in many other places WiFi works also flawlessly.
Must be the WiFi router at home. Not too surprising as I don't use much wireless but wired all my other computers (including notebook PCs), it is faster anyways.
So went back and tested WiFi on a notebook PC (prior to that upgraded the WiFi router's firmware), PC connects and works, but HD2 Android still not. Tried all kinds of WiFi and encryption combination (BGN, BG, G only, WPA2, WPA, WEP), just nothing works for HD2 Android. >> Conclusion: not the WiFi router at home, just HD2 Android working with this particular WiFi router.
Finally (but forgot what app it was), I saw the USB port binding to 192.168.20.x subnet, exactly the same as my LAN subnet in the WiFi router.
Bingo, changed the LAN subnet to something else (really anything is fine because it is inside a NAT so not an issue getting out to the Internet) and HD2 Android works like a charm.
Hope this helps.
sorry, can you explain more where to change in the router settings? i can't find anything to change in my wireless settings
Look up the LAN (local area network setting) in your router, where the IP address for most WiFi router is set to use 192.168.0.1
In my case the WiFi router is set to use 192.168.20.1 (and DHCP to pass out 192.168.20.x IP addresses).
By changing the IP address of the router, most router automatically change the DHCP assignment to corresponding subnet, say from 192.168.20.1 to 192.168.x.1
x can be any of 0 to 255, just not 20 for my case or it causes conflict with HD2 Android.
Hi Dear friend , And Thanks for sharing experiences.
I have the same problem , but my router's setting is :
IP Address : 192.168.1.1
and my Starting IP Address : 192.168.1.100
IP Pool Count : 101
DHCP : Enabled
NAT : Enabled
Default Route : YES
but no webpage loaded , the weather not work . but the meebo messenger
with my yahoo ID just worked .
so how can i fix it ?
tnx
I notice the conflict (with my 192.168.2.x) when I checked the HD2 IP addresses (after connecting to the WiFi). When I see the USB port bound to 192.168.2.x I know the two just conflict with each other.
If something (meebo messenger?) works but not others... could it be your HD2 not getting name resolution (DNS ?). Say if you try opening this do you get the Google page:
http://74.125.153.104/
** This is Google's page without the need to resolve via DNS.

and can u tell me how can I know about the port nimber . like USB port.
i think my Android's Kernels have been changes. maybe i'll can find something like this (equal IP address)
thanks.
I have following problem : At my university i have hidden Wifi network, locked with password.. But, ofcourse, we cracked their password, and now we can use their WiFi.. But i cant use it.. On WM i could use it .. One more thing to mention, there is a proxy u need to setup before u can go on internet trough that Wifi network.. but thats not my concerne yet.. I cant get connected to that Wifi.. I make new conn, with password and other settings, and it keep saying : Connecting... Disconnected...
Any ideas to help me ?
Thanks in advance
I had the same problem. I solved it by updating the radio to version 2.14.50.2. I think this version works best.
For me 2.15.50.14 works, too...

[Q] Wifi issue. New findings?

Hello, been a long time reader from my G1 to my G2 and now my nexus 4.
I am unfortunately not able to use my device on certain wifi networks which is a real bummer.
Being that i have a background in diagnosing computer problems in my real world life, i thought i would post my findings as i found some interesting things!
First i will say that the network i will use as the demonstration is secured with WPA2 PSK AES security and encryption.
I can connect to it and often find i have problems on the first connect to the network. By this i mean if i have made my wifi settings 'forget the network' and then try to connect again.
On the first time it seems to indefinitely hang, showing the message 'authenticating' on screen next to the network and if i long press on the network name and press modify, the dialog shows that i have a link speed of 1mbps.
I can usually get past this by turning wifi off and on and then reconnecting, at which point it will connect straight away and have a normal link speed. (in this example 72mbps).
After i am connected, i find that the following does not load:
-browsing webpages through chrome does not load
-the wifi icon turns grey
-play store cannot load anything
I find that i get assigned an ip address by dhcp correctly too with the right gateway and dns.
I decided to download a network tool to have a better look. I use fing personally.
I found it very interesting what i found, which no other threads about wifi issues mention.
Network discovery found every device on the local wifi network.
I was able to scan the services of my computer which is also on the network and it found everything, including a http server which i run which i could browse to.
In fact i could do everything through wifi with this device and most others.
Again it got interesting when I then took a look at my gateway, the router.
I had discovered its mac address which i can verify through my computer is correct which to my understanding, being that i can communicate through the wifi, means that i have the information available to send information to that physical device?
When trying to scan services, i find nothing, which is not true, at the very least it exposes a http server on port 80 which my computer can access.
When trying to ping i have 100% packet loss.
So at this point it is only the gateway i cannot access.
So i figure i could setup another computer which is connected to the network with a wire to share its connection through wifi onto that network and then i have a standin gateway?
I connected this computer through wifi to the network and pinged it succesfully with my phone. I then turn ICS on my wired adaptor to share to my wifi adaptor. I ensure that the wifi maintains an ip address in the right range and subnet.
I then try to ping that ip with the phone and it then gets 100% packet loss.
Could this be that when a device is configured to act as a gateway something changes about how it handles any packets sent to it that the nexus 4 is currently in compatible with?

I have found a bit of a workaround that i can use!
When i said i turned on the wifi and ICS i did the following:
-Turned on wifi.
-Connected to wifi network.
-Turned on ICS on my wired network to share to my wifi
-Observed that my ip changed from 192.168.10.x to 192.168.137.1 with no gateway or dns.
-I decided to change my ip on the wireless to 192.168.10.x and gateway to my router 192.168.10.10
-I then tested.
I ran through this again but slightly different:
-Turned on wifi.
-Connected to wifi network.
-Turned on ICS on my wired network to share to my wifi
-Observed that my ip changed from 192.168.10.x to 192.168.137.1 with no gateway or dns.
-I decided to change my ip on the phone to 192.168.137.5 with gateway and dns as 192.168.137.1
-I then tested. And it works!
I know this doesnt fix the wifi issue itself, but for me, this makes a big difference as i can now use wifi at work where we also have poor mobile network coverage.
Edit:
Additionally i previously tried to setup this same computer to host a wifi network to share the connection using 'netsh' and creating a 'hostednetwork' but i found i was in the same situation where i still couldnt get the internet.
