[Q] Weird sdcard problem! - Blade General

my sdcard is confirmed working 100% in two different computers and in 3 different phones.
but in one of my blades, any sdcard seems to "prepare" then suddenly "unexpectedly removed"
anyone had this problem and knows how to fix it?
I did a bit of googling and found others with the same issue, some on San Francisco (ZTE Blade). but no solution anywhere to be found.

Is there maybe a problem with the sdcard slot? It might be dirty or loose?

Try different sd cards and check. I too have seen this problem on other blades. Try for at least a class 4 if possible.
Sent from my Blade using XDA app

thing is the card that came with it worked for about 10 minutes before I took it out to put my other in that already had the tpt files + rom.
I don't think the slot is damages, it looks physically okay. the pins included.
tried 3 different sdcards, same result

SD Card problems...

Hi all,
For some reason my Atrix has stopped recognising my external SD card - I've tried multiple cards, formatted them etc etc and still nothing. Has anyone else had this problem?
Cheers
No, are you sure its in all the way? Make sure its mounted too and if its plugged in set the USB mode to "none" and wait a minute - just covering the basics
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
When you formatted make sure you re-mounted

Thanks for the responses.
The card is all the way in, but it appears the phone doesn't recognise it at all. In the SD card settings it doesn't show anything is inserted, so I can't mount it. In the file explorer, when I choose SD Card it says 'Insert SD Card'.
It was previously working :/
Did you ever try and force it in or rip it out? In which case the sensors could have been damaged on the phone, try the sd's on a different phone, if it works then its deffinitely the atrix
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
It could also be that the sd's. Are formatted incorrectly so that the system doesn't recognise them

I had this problem with my Atrix, but it was a physical problem, not software.
You might need to bend two pins to make contact so that the Atrix can read the card.
http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Motorola-Atrix-4G-Teardown/4964/1
At the very bottom is a picture of the phone with the back off. If you look at the SD card slot using the Huge View, you will see two small plates on the lower left of the picture (at the end of the SD card slot) that are slightly parted. When you put your card in, those two plates must touch for the SD card to be recognized.
Push them very slightly to make them closer and try again.
There's a lot of mounting, inserting, hardware and software going on in this thread.
Although I don't recommend forcing it in. It may not be accustomed to such force.
Ok all gutter thinking aside, is it just your SD cards? Maybe brand issues? If not, have you tried INSERTING someone else's....card to see if it makes a SOLID connection to the PORT? (Last one I promise).
Try it in a different phone, if it doesn't work its the sdcard if it does then its your atrix and you should either fix it or claim warranty

Thanks again for the responses.
I have tried several cards in there now, to no avail. The phone did previously recognise the SD cards but it hasn't worked in about a week now. Unfortunately, I'm in the UK and I bought my Atrix from the US - I'm guessing Motorola will probably kick up a fuss regarding the warranty...
Cheers

Did you at least take a look at the pins to see if they're in contact when the SD card is inserted?
I had the exact same problem! It did appear to be the pins not making contact, however in my phone i didn't need to bend anything i just needed to slide the card a little unconventionally.
Basically if you are holding your phone with the battery facing you and the side with the sd card at the bottom left of the phone, place your finger on the card once it has already been inserted and slide it down as much as possible. In my phone it turned out there was a tiny little wiggle room in that direction, and when i pushed it it recognized right away and stayed that way. Maybe yours is the same!
Good luck!
It does appear to be the pins - Thanks guys!

Inesplicable deletion of files

Looks like the phone, inexplicably deleted all the directories and files that were stored in my 32 GB Class 10 Lexar micro SD card. It happened once, a few days ago, and today I was at the point of listening to some mp3s when I realised that it happened again today, although now only the "music" directory was deleted.
Does anybody have an explanation?
Which rom, anything suspicious installed, anything new installed, rooted, connected it to a different computer, anything else which might help others to help you?
Also, wrong forum.
could be faulty card. also make sure you do not just eject the card from phone and/or computer without first properly unmounting it.
if it is a new card, or you do not care about data on it, reformat with this tool
https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3/
Well, I'm on stock ROM KI4 (Android vers. 2.3.4), my phone is unrooted and I never touched the card since I first put it in the phone, 2 months ago. However the first time I had the unpleasant surprise to find all the directories deleted I was on a previous ROM (android 2.3.3), so it seems that the issue is not ROM dependant. I do have quite a few apps that I downloaded from forums and therefore may be suspected to play tricks. It may be these, or it may indeed be compatibility issues with the micro SD, but what seeems strange to me, is that I don't get errrors in reading or writing files on that memory, but simply all of a sudden, at the point of opening a file, I realize the file no longer there together with its entire directory...
Ok, I was just wondering if I was the only one experiencing this issue, and as it looks so, then I'll keep monitoring the situation to see if it happens again, in such case I'll try to investigate more deeply the possible causes.
Thank you both for the useful sugggestions, and kreoXDA for the link to that utility... It may become handy!
And sorry if I am in the wrong forum (am I?). I thought that this was the right one.

If you haven't already, I would strongly recommend checking your SD card using h2testw.
No actually, I haven't... thank you, I'll do it!

There's a similar program, SDCardTester, in the Android market, so you can test on the SGS2 itself.
Ok, that would a more significative test. And it will let me test the card even now that I am away from home and I have no access to a PC. Thank you.
If you bought a 32gb sdcard off ebay at a knockdown price then I suspect you have been conned.
Try the sdcard test as suggested, it is probably a 1gb card with false code.
If it is from ebay, Dont return item either as recorded delivery will be too expensive, greater than cost of card, phone ebay and they should refund you.

No I'm quite sure that the card is not a fake. I have been using it for 2 or 3 months, filling it almost fully with no problems of capacity, speed, data corruption or whatsoever. Yes I bought the card from ebay, but from a well respected seller at "normal" price and it definitely came sealed by the manufacturer in its original blister.
I've just tried testing with SD Card Tester and everything looks OK. I get about 10 MBps r/w that if I'm not wrong is compatible with the class of the card.
I'm suspecting more android or some malware, rather than the card or some incompatibilty issues, to have erased all its contents except one directory with 5 pictures in it.
Well, as I said, for the moment I think the best thing I can do is simply to keep monitoring the situation.
Thank you mates anyway.
You need to do the capacity test...

I have been having a similar issue with a genuine 16gb class 10 from kingston. Files dissappearing or beconing corrupt. Assuming its a faulty card but not had chance to check.

Me too... it's not easy to perform an exhaustive test...
And here we go again... yesterday I noticed that all the apps that were installed on the sd card had gone... this thing begins to hurt my nerves...
Are you sure the files are deleted or did the as card just unmount?
Happened to me and I just restarted phone, all good.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
In fact, that's the first thing I suspected, but unfortunately unmounting / mounting the SD card, even phisically removing / reinstalling it from the slot, and shutting off / turning back on the phone didn't solve the problem...
Well just to give some more info. Its def not a mount/unmount issue as the card contents become corrupt randomly. Im just wondering if its a spec issue as in is class 10 causing a problem. My card is being swapped out by kingston so i will update when I can.

Yet you still haven't followed the advice in the thread, which was to run h2testw or SDCardTester to check the true capacity of the drive, and ensure data written to is is not corrupted.
I too face this similar problem. Use a Nokia 8gb card, don't know if Nokia manufactures it or not. Anyway, my files get deleted too. Apps also get corrupted. Is this a sd card slot problem. Maybe it's faulty?

SD Card is Damaged. Try Reformatting it.

Anyone else getting this with their S4? I bought my S4 two weeks ago and a Sandisk 64gb card to go with it and started seeing this error about twice a day. I returned it for a Samsung SD and didn't see the error for almost a week until today.
The card actually appears to be fine, all I have to do is remount it after seeing the message and all is good, it's just worrisome cause I store all my photos on there. I'm wondering if it could be the phone itself? I have one day left to exchange it, but it's rooted.
SD Errors are because the card is physically moving when its being written to. This cause bad sectors on the card. Try putting a piece of thin scotch tape and cut to shape of the face of the SD Card. See if it fits more snug....
Are you jogging with the S4 or something? Samsung SD's are class 10 which I think write faster. Maybe that is less likely to cause damage because its written so fast? Not sure....
Try the tape trick and see if it reduces the problem. Else its a physical problem with the slot.
i also have a class 10 64gb, some guy on the forum posted this problem too, he said that by formating the card with a PC and then formating it with the format utility in the phone settings has solved his problem. If not, might be a slot problem like slider mentionned
I had this problem too with my 32 gig class 10. When I put my shock absorbant case on it my problem went away
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337
I had never had an issue with a Sandisk card until my S3 ate a 32GB. I then started readibg how the S3 ate non- Samsung cards. I have been using a Samsung card with no issues
hope you make regular sdcard backups and copy to pc
polish_pat is correct, reformat your card with sdformatter, use Full Erase On and Size Adjustment On
Of course backup first
you shouldn't have to reformat again in phone--
if the card is good this should solve your issue
I had tried 3 different San disk 64GBP class 10 cards and had this problem, the fourth one works so far...doing some searching I found lots of complaints from lots of different device forums about this card. Only fix I found was running chkdsk repair on the card in Windows but this only worked for a few people ( couldn't save my first three cards)
anyway, imo exchange the card or better yet buy a different brand

Posting here as doing a search revealed this is the closest to the problem that I'm having. I've had my AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 for approximately 1 month now. I purchased a Sandisk 32GB SD Card for the phone. Two days ago I began experiencing issues where when unlocking the phone I would notice the card would unmount then remount (this was in the notification bar). Later that night, the card unmounted and there wasn't any way to get it recognized again. I posted in some other forums and someone said there were some good posts here.
I've contacted Sandisk regarding the card and they refused any involvement stating it's a problem with the phone, not the card. They determined this because once I was able to get the phone to recognize the card and plugged the phone into the PC, the card was able to be read. As long as it's readable, it's fine. After dealing with this I eventually found my MicroSD to SD reader and plugged it into my media reader in my printer. I had quite a few issues from time to time reading the card, however I can't 100% for sure say whether this is the card or the printer.
Anywho, I grabbed copies of what I needed. Formatted the card on the PC, then formatted it on the phone. I began to copy my entries however at one point instead of saying I had 29.* GB Available, it said something like 2.0 EV of 3.0 PE or something like that... these weren't the typical numbers I've seen nor the units of storage space. I apologize that I can't recall that information. I reformatted again and it worked. Left the card in the phone empty over night then tried to copy files later today. This worked.
Now, approximately 48 hours after the problems began, I noticed more issues. SD card stated that it had been damaged and that I should reformat it. While this message stayed in notifications, I confirmed I was still able to read files on the SD card. When googling that error hoping I'd find more resources, the card again unmounted.
One of the resources I found had me do a CHKDSK /F /X on the card. I did this and found no issues. I've replaced it back into the phone and it seems to be working for the moment.
1) Are there any confirmations if this is a bad card, or if perhaps any applications are causing the card to do this? I do have QuickPic and have enabled some of the hidden file features if that helps.
2) Do we know if there are any logs that can be pulled to help verify this?
3) Is it a specific card? (I've heard SanDisk 32gb, but also have heard non-Samsung SD will fail)
Looking to get this resolved ASAP. This card was purchased directly from AT&T when the phone was purchased. I am just looking for some confirmation that if I have to buy another card, I'm not going to gamble if that's going to have the problem as well.
Thanks! If I forgot anything please ask!
Edit: Per the thread, this is a Class 4 card. Also the phone was not moving when it was writing data. I've been couch-ridden all day and unlocked it. I don't believe the phone was in deep-sleep mode as I had received a text not long before I began noticing these messages.
same problem
i have the same problem and guess what ?
the phone is acting like the ***** it stays ok for 3 weeks while that time i download to many stuff to my ext card 32g Elixir Memory after that it crach and give me notification that sd card is damaged and i have to reformat it sucks
by the ****in way this's the fifth time it crash i changed the memory to sony and same and changed to Kodak and the same
so abso****inlotley its the S3 for me soon its going to trash

I9505 - SD Card unmounts and mounts again when using it

Hi all,
I have an I9505 and I'm having some problems with my microSD card;
When I'm using the SD Card with a file browser, after approx. 20 seconds it unmounts and mounts itself after a couple of seconds.
Tried multiple file browsers. All are having the same issue.
When listening to mp3's located on the card, the same thing happens.
The microSD is a SanDisk 32GB class 4 card.
Then I replaced the card with one that I've had laying around.
A 4GB Samsung micro SD. Also class 4. Same thing happens here.
I've originally used FAT32 but formatted it to exFAT just to try. Again, same thing happens.
The SD card is not the problem because I've used it for a year on my S3 I9300. Never had problems.
The phone is not yet rooted. (don't think it's relevant though)
Not sure if it is a software issue or hardware issue.
Anyone having similar problems?
I'm thinking of returning it for repar but peraps a sfuture firmware update might solve it?
Do you guys have any suggestions?

Sounds like a dodgy card i had that issue. No firmware update will solve it because i got a different card and its worked fine.
live-evil,
I actually tried another card. I had the same problem.
It was a class 4 as well.
Perhaps a class 10 would be better.
This card worked for over a year on my SGS3.

Clearly i can't read, sorry its written in the first post i am just dumb i guess. Anyway i doubt class 10 or class 4 would have any effect. Could be just a problem with the phone's card reader.

You're probably right.
I will return it for repair and see what they say about it.
Btw, when connecting the phone to the computer and when I try to transfer files it works for about 20 sec and the card is unmounted.
So basically, whenever you try to rea/write to the card it unmounts.
But when puting the microSD into my computer directly (with an microSD to SD adapter) it works just fine.

I and other people in the forum are having the same issue with SD cards previously working fine on SGS3 (my card is a SanDisk, 64 GB, class 10).
I guess is a SGS4 issue, I hope a software issue to be solved soon! :fingers-crossed:

I guess I have to improve my research skills
I'll wait for the next update to see whether it'll solve the problem.
btw, I checked yesterday with my brother who also has the SGS4.
We bought them together, the very same day.
He doesn't have any problems with it. It works just fine.
But he didn't install the latest update via Kies...
Guys,
A small update regarding this issue.
I've read a lot of bad reviews about SanDisk microSD cards so I decided to buy a new one.
I've bought a Transcend Class 10 32GB microSD.
I didn't have any problems with this one ever since.
I'm using it for two days now without any problems.

I was using sandisk 32 gb class10 on a i9300 with no problems, but in my i9505 is mounting and unmounting alone... same sd card.... :silly:
This is a bit old sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, plug the card in a digital camera (any camera is ok) and format it. There is no logical explanation why it works but this helps bring back to life dodgy cards or you can try a low level format, there were a few freeware tools floating around, just give it a try before buying a new card
Reseating the card?
Last week my wife started using a 64GB Sandisk Ultra memory card in her S4. The next day she complained about battery and part of the phone heating up.
I stopped by this thread to read all your advice, and figured I'd file a support ticket with Sandisk. While doing that I removed the card to write down its serial number. I re-inserted the card and from that point onwards, battery life is back to normal and that area of the phone no longer heats up.
Is it plausible that some of these problems stem from improper insertion..? (Alternatively: the card holder is a bit iffy) I notice one suggestion here was to reformat the card in a camera. Well, I suspect that the mere act of removing the card and re-inserting it plays a role here. (if the way the card was formatted would factor into this, it would be easy to reproduce -- besides, FAT32 isn't that complicated to get right from a developer's POV, and I suspect the same holds true for exFAT)

[Q] Broken MicroSD slot?

Is this a common issue with the Note 3? I was given an SM-N900 a while back and bought a 64gb microSD. One day I took it out, transferred some files onto it from my computer, and replaced it. The phone didn't detect it. I tried an old 2gb card. The phone detected it, said it needs to be formatted, I formatted it, and it says the same thing. I've tried a wide range of formats on both cards (fat32, exfat, ext2,3,and 4, ntfs) and it's always the same thing. Both cards work normally in my computers and in an Xperia Z. They won't mount in recovery either, so I'm thinking the reader must be damaged, maybe a contact bent or broken off. Has anyone else experienced this?
maybe the slot is dirty inside and contacts are not working well. you can clean the slot with toothbrush it may help
Thanks, I'll give that a try.
