I have a "deals" app on my phone (SII Sprint)
it popped up a $30 android phone at best buy. I clicked out of morbid curiosity looking for the catch
NO CATCH. $30 flat (plus sales tax) no contract no catches. I paid $31.79 and 30 minutes later I picked it up at my local best buy !!!
its a 3.5" capacitive screen android phone from ZTE called the "Score" or X500
really really not a bad little gadget. WAY better than the prevail !! (about the same formfactor)
fast and responsive. Netflix even works !!
3.2mp cam but crap video.
its a cricket pay as you go phone. normally $70 on sale $30 no strings
I bought 2 more that I will pick up tomorrow.
you see I never plan to activate it or use it as a phone. I am going to use them as sem disposable portable computers to "do" interesting things with.
For example I will run ulyssess speedometer on one in the CAR and sit it on the dash so my "dash cam" can "see" it.
THEIR. I just embedded lat long gps data and velocity data real time into my $60 dash cam without having to spend $300 on a dash cam with it build in.
the other 2 (maybe 3 if I have enough money) are going to be cheap Timelapse camera's wherein if one gets "taken" I won't have a heart attack (such as if that were to happen to my SII)
there is SO much potential when you have "decent" android hardware at such a cheap price!
I rooted it STRIPPED it of pretty much ANYTHING I did not think would brick the phone even with netflix installed I now have 71mb memory available.
it came with a 4gb card but you only get 1gb 3gb is a hidden partition for cricket's muve music junk. (it might be possible to reformat the card to get the full 4g someone is working on that)
I just tossed a 16gb card in it so I can do hours of timelapse.
it memory fails when I try to do rapid timelapse at full camera spec but at 1080p 1 pic every 3 seconds seems to run just fine so far (will do long test tommorrow)
VERY neat device. I am impressed and loving it. at this price I am going to find all kinds of interesting uses for these gadgets.
Here is where to get it
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchp...p=&qp=&list=n&iht=y&usc=All+Categories&ks=960
here is how to root it (worked fine for me)
http://score.rockthatmobile.com/how-to-root-the-cricket-zte-score-x500/
simplified instructions.
download the two packages. I don't think you need the drivers one I THINK they are built into the phone.
plug it in right click the drive that appears (not sd card) and click install. it installed drivers.
run the zerglings through it and bingo its rooted. VERY easy.
install titanium and goto down deleting crap (use your head)
YOU CAN NOT BUY A USED ANDROID PHONE FOR $30 !!! even a broken one.
wiicked deal !
now we just need some fun roms for it. would love a SUPER minimal NOTHING rom for a minimal foot print and optimized for battery life.
looks like a great deal for those sandbox projects not worth risking a decent phone on. saying that 2.3 is pretty capable of a great deal. i'm guessing it's a half decent processor & ram if you have netflix running?
pity bestbuy don't ship to the uk. i'd have a couple for fun otherwise.
Would be nice as an mp3 player thanks for threads up I might be ordering one for fun

Why do I need one of these again? No really...I am going to buy one and I need to give my wife a reason or she is going to call one of those "Hoarders" shows.
Does it have GPS? I think it could be a good device to keep in the car to play audiobooks and music and use for gps.
Also want to know if it has a GPS.
After root how much space can you reclaim???

I am going to check this out... thanks for sharing.... wonder if ICS is possible on this thing. I have heard of complaints on BEST BUY about it supposedly supporting 32 GIG MICRO SD, but many having issues with its FORMAT structure. can anyone confirm?
here is link to the full specs
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=3148&c=zte_score_x500
just bought two for my stores to play music on pandora.
$38.23 shipped !
I guess i dont have to buy wireless speakers now.
thnx.
YES it has FULL non cellular gps and FAST gps too. SECONDS to get a lock.
CDMA don't matter as I never ever plan to make a phone call from it.
so far my best is 83mb free memory. Sweet! Just went nuts with titanium and started whacking
sadly don't have a 32gb to test reads my 16's just fine.

I would be willing to do that but how would I pick it up?
you can put the order in my name but I won't be able to provide the credit card used which they ask for ALTHOUGH they do take PAYPAL so if you pay for it using paypal and send me a copy of the paypal receipt I bet that would be enough
IE call the store first and confirm they are willing to give it to a person you identify in advance (me)

boy is cricket going to HATE US. they are going to sell ooodles of these phones and get NO accounts out of it hehehe
Looks like they have CWM Recovery working for this over on cricketusers.com. Would be cool if it had CM7 but all I see is a stock ROM out there.
Sometimes you can find used Android phones on ebay for this price but they are usually running a dated version of Android and have been used and abused. Something new running GB is a pretty good deal.

Not familiar with Verizon bands. Can I get this activated and functional on VZ? Assuming it can be unlocked.
I can say with almost a certainty no. verizon is adamant about NOT activating non verizon hardware on verizon.
short of cloning not likely to happen.

I was one of the first to pre-order XDA 2 i-MATE from PPCW and I just got invoice for it. Should be here next week. THe thing is, I already got XDA 2 of the e-bay. Does anyone want's to get this unit from me? It's going to b shipped to Toronto, Canada. Invoice is for 969 USD including shipping, plus dutys and taxes on Canadian border, I think it's 7%+8% taxes, I am not sure about duty. And some $ for my troubles. Detailes can be discussed over e-mail.
$ 1,000.00
8) id rather wait for more ppl to buy them, and start droppin them in their toilets an selling them on Ebay
OK then, I am cancelling my order.
dont go by my word alone, maybe sum other person (drugdealer) gots that kinda $$$$
I said "Ouch!" When I paid $449 or $499 or whatever it is a few months back for my T-Mobile PPC. I just can't see spending over a thousand on a phone, no matter WHAT all it does. If I decide I want one of these things I think I'll be waiting til they come down quite a bit.
Aw come on...
Aw come on Greg, if you had a phone that had the following features:
1 GB Ram
2.4 ghz processor
Bluetooth, wi-fi, voice recognition, and it printed legal tender of the country of your choice, you'd probably pick it up wouldn't ya? I mean, it would pay for itself (literally).
Point? Well, some of us are just more of technology nuts than others. For what I intend to use my i-mate for, I got it for a steal. (i.e. laptop replacement)
Every product out there has it's price. That's the price for this device and some people are willing to pay even more. Tek'N'Toys, company in Canada have list price for this XDA 2 1200 Canadian dollars, add 7% and 8% tax and shipping and insurance and you'll get about 1600 Canadian.
So, my intention was to give opprtunity to interested parties in Canada, since noone is selling this device yet here.
Anyways, nobody is putting gun to your head
I've cancelled my order anyways, so there is nothing to discuss.
Cheers.

100% with you! I am using my iMATE 100% since day one for a business purpose and I gotta tell you it's more productive that my laptop since I can carry it with me all the time. It's like an expensive digital camera - if this is your proffessional tool you don't really care about price and more about productivity. If you intend only play games on your XDA2 and watch video that another story, get yourself iPAQ 1910 for 199 USD and be happy.
Heheheh... Well I use mine also, pretty extensively for business when I'm out and about. I guess what I should have said is - at the present time, for me it's not worth spending $1k to go from the XDA I to the II.

You've missed my point here. For a pro, who makes $$$ with the camera, speed and relabilty is more imprtant than price. For example, 8K for Canon 1Ds or 4K for Canon 1D is not a big deal, since he will make 2 or 3 times more $$$ with it than with 1000K Canon 10D. However, for the consumer, Canon 10D or even digital Rebel is a better choice, since it's not a TOOL for him. About camera on XDA2. I agree that quality is not even close to stand alone digicams, but it does a good job in certain situations
yeah
xdaII and somewhat xda is the jack of all trades master of non
i say master of non because people who want a tiny cellphone should look elsewhere
people who just want a pda can get a cheaper one
people who want to take photos should get a digital cam
people who get chicks should get a fancy car
but with all the features of xda2 it's a wonder tool for people who need a bit from collum A and a bit from B....
i'm happy with my xda and will most likely not change to xda2
untill it become clear if 3g will take off or edge will take off
but if i dident have a xda i would get a xda2 in a sec
because it's a lovable gismo

really all that's important now is that I can disable 3G on her phone, and I just cant figure out how. Is there a simple registry edit or a smartphone comm manager around? I tried a few comm managers but they didnt really disable it, I just want it off so it always uses edge
It was time she got an upgrade, so I had her get the burgundy colored Pantech Duo. So as I've heard there is no Roms for this phone yet, so what should I do to her phone? where would i find some compatible homescreens? perhaps the Vox (wings) homescreens would be compatible? I'm not sure yet what I can do with the phone, Im gonna put HTC Home on it if that works.
o man im pissed to find out it doesnt have wifi!
here I was excited she can finally have internet in her room.
makes her and I even more mad that her sister's BlackJack II has wifi.
damn...no secret wifi chip inside the pantech that we didnt know about?
See if you can get your hands on a MicroSD wifi card... They make them but I don't think they're on the market, not sure... But the Duo supports it. Also, there's something called HomeScreenBuilder (use google to find it), it's free and very customizable for her homescreen in WM6. I just sold my Duo recently, but here are a few other programs to check out...
DuoSTT (Answer calls by sliding phone open, hang up by sliding closed)
SmartToolKit (Better start menu, task manager, cleaner look)
TCPMP and there's a flash plugin for IE to play youtube videos, search the att forums it's posted under pantech by my username
Opera Mobile browser, if you download the trial I can get you a serial # (Just go to "register opera" and PM me your device ID)
hey thanks! i didnt know they had a wireless microSD card.
Now I just need to wait till it's avaible somewhere, I hope the price isnt too bad..
I'll put some of these programs you've mentioned on, as well as HTC Home. Is there a customizer for it like there is for pocket pc? or a way to change which icons appear.
I bought this phone for my sister. I think its crippled a lil without Wifi, but she doesnt care about anything but the cool red color and 2 keyboards... *rolleyes*
But to the point, if you are looking for other software, I would recomment using Conduits Pocket Player if you/she would like some music on it. Also, Newegg is selling 4 gig microSD cards (SanDisk) for 14.99. Worth looking into, wish you luck.
There is a 6.1 windows rom upgrade beta rom out for this phone. I have had this phone for a few weeks and am liking it from my 3125 that died. This was a warrenty replacment for me. Figured I could use it for a year and then when my contract is up look around.

$14.99?? talk about a good deal! now only if they could make that WITH the wifi.
well at one point she too wouldnt have used wifi, but when i went over to her house and connected to the wifi at her house with my Tilt from "ANYWHERE INSIDE THE HOUSE **OMG**" now she really wanted it, i got her hopes up to cause i assumed every windows mobile phone had wifi, should make sense shouldnt it? well i guess not lol. she doesnt have computer in her room and the next best thing is if she could get on msn and look at her myspace from her phone in her room, lol.
As far as a media player, I'll probably just have her use tcpmp, being it's the best for music, although not the prettiest, maybe Coreplayer? but I've tried coreplayer and i wasnt able to add onto my playlist, only load a series of files at a time.
Will the Duo work with a 4gig card? I heard it will not read any higher then 2 gigs.

you know what also pisses me off, her call quality is horrible, can barely hear what the person is saying, sounds like she has a blown speaker, but from reviews I've been reading this is really what it sounds like.
and what has pissed me of since the very beginning, was I didn't want her to get this phone originally, I wanted her to get the nokia N75 (she would like it better) but it has been discontinued now.. and there are not any other s60 devices right now.

well, because there is no Wifi, horrible camera, and horrible sound quality, i would not recomend this phone. However it does have a nice Xscale 416mhz processor. I tried some games in Finalburn and they ran very nicely!
for a smartphone I would get a nokia phone, but for a touchscreen phone I would get a windows pocket pc.
In my book Nokia wins the non touchscreen phones, I'd like to see them pull of a s60 device with a touchscreen.

Okay first off your avatar pic reminds me of a very good friend. But every skater looks like that. But secondly, The BlackJack II is made from Samsung. I dont know where you got HTC from Take the duo back and get a new phone. So far it's not that good. As far as I've heard. And I think that HTC stopped making smartphones and the BJ II is a smartphone. Well originally the BJ I had wi-fi (the european version anyway) but at&t decided to cripple it and take out the wi-fi chip. The BJ II was never actually released with a wi-fi chip. I actually suggest you tell her to get a BJ II or go for the Tilt since it's the only phone that at&t offers that has wi-fi (besides the iPhoney and the Crackberry)

I dont recommend the tilt to anyone who isnt technically inclined and/or willing to tinker. It takes too much work to get the phone into a sweet spot. It will be a pain in the ass to update 2 - I barely have time to keep up with updating my own, lol.
I completely agree with you...my wife can't stand my tilt but she isn't tech savvy like I am.
I love the Tilt ONLY because of XDA though...if I weren't able to find the sweet spots I have I would have returned it long ago. I am spoiled...never again will I own a phone I can't customize as much as I do now.

Really? I guess I'm just naturally tech savvy. My tilt is actually my second wm phone. I had the BlackJack first. I didn't find xda until maybe 2 months after I got my tilt. I had already customized it to my own knowledge, but this site made it even better. I guess you're right. It's probably best to stick with crackberry and nokia.

well I have told her to return it and wait around the august - october area, but she says she will only return it if I can find a device now, well I have, but it's discontinued, the N75. But i know in a few months there will be more phones.
She doesnt like the blackjack II, and i dont blame her, I dont like phones that are wide and have the keyboard on the outside.
She likes my tilt but cant spend $300 - $500 lol
I also agree, i wouldnt like my tilt if it weren't for xda. the stock AT&T rom sucks, and it would be too plain!
well nokia requires just as much work, that is the fun of nokia, is you gota install the doom emulator and then customize it.

Not really :S Can't she upgrade? My friend recently bought a tilt. It was $100 instant (making it $199 from $299) and then $100 mail-in-rebate (making it a final $99+tax).

really? i know buying it outright is $550, then with the 2 year contract it's $350, then with the rebate it's $250, but that's as cheap as I saw it..
even then i had to pay $350 for mine cause I guess you had to buy either the internet plan or messaging or something to get the rebate, and my parents didnt wanna do that.
I guess her dad told her she has to stick with this phone, so. yeah, gay, lol.

Guessing you're over 18? Random sorry lol. But how about the LG Vu? or the Moto Q global? The tilt is $149 /w 2 yr contract (after mir) in my zip code. Don't know why'd it be any different in yours. Well the refurb is anyways. The new one is $200. Link. Also check amazon.
EDIT: Wow, you bought your phone late. I bought mine in Feb 08 and it was $350 (/w tax) after rebates. (Although I payed for the phone myself and none of the monthly bills ha) If I didn't take messaging it would have been $450 for me. Some people were especially lucky. There was a time where the tilt was only $74.99 after rebate with a new contract on amazon. That also included messaging/internet. I really think it was worth it though. The rebate, not for you anyways since you would pay min $20 for 6months which would be $20 more than instead of getting the rebate. I had a employee discount which takes off 15% of my monthly bill, so it was a saving of about $25 so I took it. I mean what the heck who cares lol. At least I got messaging too. So my real total was about $425. Which is pretty hefty. Now going back, I could have bought a tilt from ebay or something for that price. :S well that's the problem with tech. It gets cheap too quick. Btw did you check out that slick new white BJII with the pink and the blue background? That totally looks sick. I would get that if it wasn't a BJII and a BJI instead lol
So my first android device I bought was a mytouch3G a few days ago. I love it, but it's just a bit slow. I'm thinking about selling it and getting some cash to buy the N1. My question is, do you guys think this phone is worth getting right now? Or is there a better Android phone out there than this one? I'm NOT going to be using the T-Mobile data plan, btw. Is there anything coming out soon that will cause a price drop?
Thanks.
edit: mods I realized I posted this in the wrong forum, please feel free to move it.
The N1 is amazing, especially coming from something like the mytouch3G. The Nexus one (tmobile version) can be bought as a Dev phone currently from Google at the normal price ($529) plus a $25 developer activation fee. You certainly wont regret the N1 if you decide to get it.
Another good Tmobile phone is the Vibrant, in general it meets if not slightly beat the nexus one in many departments even without froyo's JIT. And you can get a Vibrant for a little less then the $550 you would pay for a Nexus One.
Of course both can be found on Craigslist or ebay at a huge degree of different prices also.
Nothing I can think of that would cause any major price drops in the near future. ALSO there is the new HSPA+ flagphone that will be out soon that I'm certainly interested in.
My advise is to look at the tmobile android lineup (curent and future) and see if you know of anyone or go to the store and see if you can test them and if you like them more then the mytouch.
-Cheers
Best phone ever best android experience as well
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
To put this as objectively as possible coming from a n1 user. The nexus one is a nice phone if you're very into customizing, from my knowledge of android devices, it's the top for modding. However it all depends on what you're going to be doing on the phone. For example if you're going to be playing games that require multitouch (nova) then it does have an issue with its multitouch. To some that's not an issue cause they don't game to others it is. The other major issue that I see at least for me is the small internal storage space. 512mb, really google? That's just two of the issues that I would really liked to be different, they're the only real issues for me. An hdmi out would be nice, but I wouldn't use it that much i'm assuming so it's not a deal breaker for me, same thing with a front facing camera.
But then you have things like the trackball that's nice for notifications, the screen size is just right, it's powerful and everything AND it gets all the updates first! It has a flash, the camera is pretty good actually (even though I hate cell cameras).
The only device on T-mobile that I can see as being another option would be the samsung vibrant, especially if you plan to play games on it, since it doesn't have the multitouch issue, and the gpu is really powerful. Problems with the device for me is the lack of a flash for the vibrant.
As for is it worth it? Well that depends on if spending the money is worth it and if you're going to get another phone anyways, yes the n1 is a great phone if you can overlook the multitouch issue and the small internal storage space.
EDIT: one more issue that I have with the n1 is that the audio is kinda bad, the speakers are quiet, and the headphone's sound is also quiet. Just wish the sound could be up'ed more so that it's a reasonable sound quality. Just seems more quieter than other android phones that I've had.

Either get the N1 right now, it's still an amazing phone, and I see NOTHING in market right now that I'd trade it for.
Or, wait several months for next gen to come out, something with an even stronger CPU, maybe even gingerbread around Christmas. And NO, it won't be called a Nexus Two.
Me, I'm wating for that second option. No smartphone/PDA on the market today appeals to me as an upgrade.
unfortunately price wont drop for a while, it's now a dev phone. but once you have it in ur hand, im sure ud feel the price was worth it. you can always sell the N1 too with if you dont like it. and if you're geek enough, have a flashing addiction of nightlies, constantly making trying out something new with ur phone, this should be it.
I was in your same position. I got the My Touch 3g 1.2. And it was awesome, but I read somewhere that it was like a mini Nexus One and that made me more curious. I sold the phone soon after, and found a Nexus One, and it really is an incredible device, with an operating system built and tested specially or it (FRF91). The one downside is that you have to worry about the Nexus One a bit more. When my ipod is dead, the MT3G was ok for the gym, but not the N1. It has actually forced me to take better care of my phone, and other devices in general. It was a good decision, for sure.
Most of the upcoming Android phones seem to be rebuilt versions of this phone, and the N1 is still expected to get most updates, app add-ons and functions first. All dual core processor phones are still a long way away and are only rumored devices. If you are extremely patient you could wait it out, or just buy the N1 and sell it in a year.
One item on the list "to consider" might be - Nexus will be the 1st existing device to get Gingerbread update, probably by a considerable time margin.
If you're not gonna use data, I wouldn't drop money on a nexus one or a top of the line smartphone for that matter.
dooo it! my touch3g is old and slow!!!!
Buying a Nexus One for $554 plus tax without a data plan would be absolute and downright insanity.
Wouldn't do it without a data plan!

Haha, why not? I'm surrounded by WiFi literally EVERYWHERE. Is it because this phone limits what you can do on it without the data plan, like what BlackBerry does? I know with BB, you can't use certain apps, programs, features, etc without having a data plan. Is this the same?
And I'm not dropping 500+, hoping somewhere in the 300-350 price range, used on craigslist.
edit: Also, If I wanted to add a data plan, would I be able to do it without starting a new contract? Because a dealer that I personally know hooked me up with a no contract plan for tmo ($30+tax for unlimited calls and text, but no web).
Thanks.
no there is nothing limited by not having a data plan. and if you are near wifi all day then its will be just the same. but when you're driving in your car and want to use navigation, or look something up on google maps, wifi isnt gonna help you. that's what they're saying.
and yes you can add a data plan anytime without extending your contract on most any carrier nowadays.
LOL
i buy my N1 without data plan xD
i dont regret since i have wifi around in my work and home and im outside wifi range like 4 hours at day in bus or subway.
and im fine perhaps its like kill a fly wit a cannon
i will get in 10 days my 3g plan (too expensive here >_< )
but yea after months with wifi, all its ok but with 3g AMAZING phone

I guess anywhere I have wifi, I have computer access, so I don't really touch my phone during those times.
There's no restrictions from the OS itself regarding data.
If you want super cheap data, go to the t-mo website, set up and account. The when it asks you for your phone type, just put in a generic non-smartphone phone. You'll be able to add the $10 "dumbphone" internet, which is the same as the "android" plan.

Interesting. First time I hear of that. Can't they find out what phone you have once they scan the phone?
[Edit]: I just checked my T-Mobile account and it shows up as Unknown Phone: "Sorry—we’re not sure which phone you’re using, so we’re not able to display resources. Please select a phone".
What's to prevent me from changing my account to the $10 dumbphone plan?

Scruples.
If you're on contract you won't be able to change the android plan without an ETF.
They surely can scan your imei and figure out which phone you have (ATT does this), but T-Mobile has not not started doing that yet.

Because T-Mobile is the ****! I cautiously walked away from ATT and Verizon a few years ago and was amazed at what I found in Tmobile, I will never go back

Nothing...many other carriers check your imei number but tmobile rarely does anything with it. Try it, the worse that could happen is they figure out you have a smartphone and bump you back up to what you are currently paying. Theoretically there is no difference between the dumbphone and the smartphone variant (im pretty sure).
Hello all. First this forum has been great giving me info on my new Nexus 7. Even problems to look out for (that I haven't had yet, knock on wood).
Right now I have an original Droid that I had added via a dealer under the table on MetroPCS via Hodini. It works "okay" and had it awhile. The problem is, even with the custom PRLs and tweaking via CDMA Workshop, I only get 100-400kbps in a so called 3G Metro city.
I really think T-Mobile's 'Walmart' deal is the best way to go. Even 100 minutes of talk is enough for me, and if not ill do the GVoice to Chat route trick.
So the issue is I blew all my money from the sell of my original iPad to get this 16GB Nexus (plus some beer). I can probably soon muster around $100, maybe $125. Can u recommend a decent android phone around this price thats just a step up than my droid in speed, but I know I won't be getting a Nexus for this. Mainly something that I can do good battery time for WiFi share, or a phone known for good Bluetooth sharing reliability so I won't be using so much battery?
Reason I want this cause as you all know the Nexus 7 is pretty gimped without Internet. I really wish Google / ASUS made a 3G or 4G version, I would of bought that in a second, even if it was $100 or $150 more.
Thanks in Advance!
So Thursday night I left my phone (Sensation 4G running CM10) in a cab and after trying everything I could think of to get it back, I've come to the glum realisation that it's gone for good.
I really need some sort of mobile communication device, not to mention that taking a sh*t is in orders of magnitude more boring without a smartphone. I get paid on the 15th and had planned on getting the Nexus 4. The only thing I'm worried about is since it goes on preorder on the 13th, they'll be sold by the time I get paid and won't be able to get one until the end of November at the earliest.
That got me thinking: Could I use the Nexus 7 as my main communication device?
One of the major reasons for this line of thinking is that I ride a motorcycle, so I don't use a phone anyway while I ride; not even for navigation. Also, since I've lost my phone, I've been using Google Voice to communicate with my family and friends via SMS and it's worked out pretty good so far. Most of my family have Android devices, so I could train them to use Google Talk also; and of course there's always Skype.
Having Wifi at home and at work makes me think it will be possible to use the Nexus 7 pretty much exclusively. The only time it'd be a pain in the ass would be going out with friends and carousing drunkenly. I suppose I could get one of those girly purse pouch things, but that's not really my style. I'd also be afraid of damaging it or getting it stolen.
Another possibility would be to get the HSPA+ version with Straight Talk or T-Mobile Monthly 4G; both offer unlimited mobile data at $45 and $30 / month respectively (though I believe Tmo is throttled at 5GB). This route would cost $100 more than the 16GB version.
So what do you guys think? Is it possible to do this or am I thinking too positively and not seeing potential complications? What would you guys do in my situation?

well, you better report it being lost so the sim in there isn't active, or it will cost you. as for a communication device, i think its safer to just get an old dumb phone for the moment, and put your replacement sim in there, so people who only know your phone number can still call you. good luck!

I should have mentioned that I had a Straight Talk SIM in there and my prepaid service had run out the next day, so if anyone wanted to use my SIM, they'd have to reload a prepaid plan.
I had thought of getting or borrowing a dumb phone, but I don't have a GSM one and I'm not sure anyone I know has one. I'm tight on cash at the moment and don't want to spend money I could be putting toward a Nexus 4 or 7 unnecessarily. Thanks for the suggestion though.
I really am interested to see if people think this would be possible, at least until I get a Nexus 4; I have wanted a N7 for a while, so this would be a pretty good excuse to get one.
Bear in mind you'd look like this guy.

Hhaha, well, that's kind of what the Note and Note 2 guys look like
There are not hard facts whether the Nexus 7 3G will have a Voice capable modem/radio inside... or if the device will only transmit data signal.
I'm hoping its a full 3G mode/radio inside, and the Dialer/SMS App have just been removed (as they are on all tablet version of Android)
