Hi all,
I read many posts all over the web about workarounds to make KIES work on MacOS X Lion, or having to run the Windows version under Parallel, but it just works fine natively.
Went to samsung.com, and got redirected to samsung.com/es (I live in Spain). Then in the search bar I asked for KIES, clicked on the KIES icon that came back as an answer, and was prompted to download the Windows or Mac version.
Downloaded the Mac version (KiesMac_1-1.2.0.12012_6_9.dmg), installed it with all default settings, ran it, it went through a first update, then restarted the application and it went through another update. Restarted and it is now KIES version 1.3.0.12023_9.
I connected my Note to a USB port and it recognized it fine... including telling me firmware version of my note etc.
Anyways maybe this is already known to all Mac users... or maybe it helps!?
Cheers.
KIES works fine but Mac OS can't recognize SS Note as an USB storage yet
Yes it can, if u activate the usb storage option in settings.

I downloaded the mac Kies (long time ago) to my iMac and both SGSII and Note works ok,
Doesn't work for me. Just sits there saying "Connect a Device" even after I have connected my Note. No such problem with the same Mac / Cable / USB Port / Note settings using Parallels and Kies under Windows. YMMV.
I'm user if Mac too... Try to use kies to update my note, is a big sh**... My lion can't recognized my phone, use kies air.... Now I have root my device, no needed kies to update my roms

I use VMWare Fusion to run a virtual machine of Windows 7 within OSX. It makes dealing with the phone a lot easier, because switching back and forth between OSX and 7 is as easy as literally making a trackpad gesture. I haven't gotten around to installing Kies on the windows side but the phone acts amazingly as a USB storage device on windows so I have yet to really need to.
I never trusted OSX to get along with Android in the first place, so I would be surprised if it DID work fine rather than if it didn't, when it comes to using an Android phone with OSX.

I had the same problem under Windows 7 64bit. Solved it by installing Windows Mobile Device Center, don't ask me why :-(
Thank you for replies. I have tried to reinstall MDC but that doesn't seemed to help solve the problem...
Still cannot use Kies.. sigh..
Solved
Kies require Windows Mobile Device Center on newer Windows, activesync on older Windows.

I have just purchased Galaxy S.
Installed Kies on windows 7 64 bit, kies doesn't start/work at all. It remain at splash screen. When open task manager I found the splash process and form1.
It is a big delusion
Samsung make software only for 32bit?? How to sync 232 contacts from iphone without outlook??
Samsung, sigh ..
Regards
Thanks for the hints everyone.
My 'mainstage' problem seemed to have been solve with reinstallation of the latest Kies from samsung which I have just downloaded. That being said, kies open and run fine, but I am back to the same old problem unable to connecting my phone to kies. This software is really a POS.
My system is Window 7 64Bit home professional.
Also just to note, I notice that kies requires .net framework for window xp and vista. To be safe.. and it might be totally unrelated... I enabled the Microsoft .NET framework 3.5.1 on window 7 when I reinstalled the new version of kies.
Yes, and do not forget Windows Mobile Device Center on newer Windows, activesync on older Windows.
Regards
Thanks
Last note really.
Today the in a last ditch efforts to connect Kies due to upgrade from JF4 to JG4 over kies, I have finally decided to format my internal SDcard.
Kies was able to connect to my phone after several reboot attempt of my computer and telephone. Upgrading to JG4 seemed to have no problem connecting to Kies so far. However, I have my doubt that after installing several programs the problem will probably pop back up again.
Cheers Everyone

Kies Mainstage Still Not Working
I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling and using different versions and Kies Mainstage still does not allow Kies to start up.
I've installed Mobile Device Manager and still nothing.
Seems as though Samsung exec's opted for a slick, pretty GUI without consideration to actual functionality!
At this rate, I will never be able to upgrade to froyo 2.2 unless someone writes an install package that works.
frustrated.
Galaxy S, 2.1 update 1 Eclaire. 2 Gb Micro SD card.

I had similar problems running Kies on Win 7 x64. What I did was do a fresh install of the updated Kies version 103_100_2 (from Samsung UK site), ie. uninstall old Kies and remove any lingering directories first. Then Uninstall the Samsung USB drivers installed with Kies. Then install the x64 bit drivers for Samsung mobile devices. Worked a treat.
You can get the x64 bit drivers from Softpedia website
cheers
Having the same problem. It's infuriating.
Kies was working fine until about a month ago and now I cannot open it. Have followed the advice given in this thread but no luck in getting it to start.
Running Windows Vista 32 Bit
mainstage not working
I have vista 32bit
I reinstalled the latest version of kies it still didn't work so I then installed .NET framework 4 and that seems to have solved the problem.
hope this helps for all you vista 32 bit operators that have the mainstage problem.
took me two hours to work out but seemed to correct the problem by downloading the 4.0 version of .netframework.
kies seems to be working now
let me no if this helps

Fix for XP:
I had exactly the same problem on my XP Netbook and solved as follows:
Uninstall Kies
Uninstall Samsung Modem for Mobile Phones
Uninstall Microsoft Silverlight
Uninstall Microsoft Silverlight SDK
Reboot
Install Kies
Hope this helps.
A.
PS Reasoning behind this is if you look at the error log file that the crash produces and is about to send to Microsoft then you see that the exception occurred in XamlParse... Xaml is the xml language used by Silverlight and WPF.
PPS Samsung get your act together and write software that works properly.
PPPS Samsung give us a way to update your phones without having to use the piece of cr*p you call Kies.
Like the title says, my IO tab isn't being seen by either my Mac or windows machines.
I have adb w sdk set up on both, IO device drivers on both and Samsung Kies and Kies mini respectively installed on both.
What am I missing or doing wrong? I've followed all guides to the Letter and even uninstalled all required programs and everything associated and then started everything from scratch. Someone please help.

Did you instal the drivers???? Keep in mind that the device is still 2 weeks from offical release. Have you rooted??
Sent from my GT-P7510 using XDA Premium App
Yes I did, I installed them on both machines and still no luck. Haven't been able to root. I already have the files I need on the tab too so I just need to get into recovery so that I can root.

I'm having the same exact issue. It won't work on my Mac or on Windows 7. I've tried drivers on Win 7, and I used the android file transfer tool on my mac.
Still nothing.....
Seems way to obvious but have you enabled usb debugging?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA Premium App
I had to do the following:
1) Enable USB Debugging
2) Install Samsung Kies (samsung (dot) com/ca/kies)
3) Install the Samsung USB Driver. (developer (dot) samsung (dot) com/googleio)
Once I did those three things, I plugged in and it detected the device, installed the hardware using the correct drivers, and the device showed up in 'adb devices'.
anyone try the Kies for Mac beta?

I am using W7 64bit pro. I can install Kies with no problems, but when I connect the phone (sgs II) I get an error message that The driver did not install correctly. Of course I cannot connect to Kies, thoug I can browse the internal and external card content. No advice worked, tryed to reinstall, use virtual XP 32b, etc...
It works on my desktop 32b but I cannot read the phone numbers, but I need it on my laptop which is running W7 64b pro. Any ideas?
Install Drivers
Open kies and then in the menu bar on top of kies select tools and install drivers.
Tryed this. Does not work.
If the above does not work for you try this.
Run Kies as administrator.
When installing Kies did you follow the instructions to the letter?
Reason I ask Im running Win 7 64 and have no issues with KIES.
Go to Samsung.com and download the Kies from there to your PC.
Uninstall the current one from PC along with any drivers reboot PC.
Now install new KIES without fone connected and follow the instructions.
WHen asked to connect fone do so and not before.

Does not like laptops? Works fine on all the laptops/ netbooks that we use and thats a mixture of brands at that.
Does not like laptops in that a majority of Kies not working posts are for Laptops .

Rubbish, running on my win 7 pro 64bit toshiba lappy.
i guess this is not about flashing, so odin wouldn't help much, especially, since odin needs the working drivers as well.
i read somewhere on here, that the driver installation fails, if there is an external sd card inserted in the sgs2, when first connected (afterwards, there will be no problem on this point).
i agree with the others on other points though, kies really sucks to some extend. the only good feature i used, was media syncing. but for syncing of any kind (not only music and photos, but also savegames and other data) i use microsoft synctoy now, with the galaxy connected in mass storage mode. flashing with odin and syncing with 3rd party apps really makes kies redundant.

Tried to disconnect the SD card, I receive the same error: "SAMSUNG Mobile USB Modem Failed". Tried to reinstall drivers from Kies tools, of course did not work. Ran out of ideas.
Install the drivers manually from the Kies' "escape" folder. Use the Windows Device manager.
Already done this. DOES NOT WORK.
Do you have any others accessories connected to usb, like mobile broadband? I've got similar problem and when I've uninstalled drivers and disconnected modem everything started to work again

have you tinkered between usb debugging on and off
Read somehwere the first time you you use kies...have kies running, put phone off usb debugging. then plug it in
I had same problem with my desktop. i went into device manager. there should be an explanation mark next to phone. uninstall driver then reinstall telling it to get driver from the web. then start up kies. ps make sure kies isnt running when u install. hope this works took alit of messing around for it to work for me but eventually did.
I have W7 with 64 bit and fortunatelly KIes works on mine. I live in US and I downloaded Kies from Samsung UK site just in case because the phone was bought from Expansys and is coming also from UK. Maybe try to check on this solution. Also I vaguely believe that I had to disable firewall or Eset during the installation, but I may be wrong on this. That sucks that yours doesn't work. Wish you luck...
I am running Windows 7 in 64bit and everything works perfectly. Except I dont like Kies and used it only once.... to check what its all about.
I do not remember the installation process, but usually hardware must not be plugged in until the driver is actually installed. So just uninstall everything, install it again and THEN when everything is done plug in the phone. It should be then be recognized and working.
However if you want it just to put music on it or copy files in general, better ditch Kies and make your device be recognized by your computer like an USB-Drive.
Go to Settings > Applications > Development (Translated it from German, might be off)
There you check the USB-Debugging option and have no need for Kies anymore.
What USB port are you using? Experience from the cappy forum and personal experience shows that using a USB port right off the MB is best. Not sure if it's a power problem or what. My cappy would always charge and be hit/miss on recognization using the front USB port on my computer. Using a rear port produces connection everytime. I'm on a cappy right now, just waiting for the US release date to get GS II.
None ot the above worked. Giving up. Tx anyway.
I have a problem with my galaxy Y Duos on the new ASUS N76VM-V2G-T1087V with windows 7-64 bit. When I want to connect it to your computer as a storage, the phone will beep three times and nothing happens. Windows shows it as an unknown device. I've tried a lot of drivers and Kies program, on my old laptop DELL Inspiron Q17R everything was fine, no problems and I did not need any drivers. The basic android phone from the manufacturer and both laptops have USB 3.0. Please, help :crying:
Sorry for my EN, i'm czech.
It has to be a drivers problem. Don't install Kies for them. Head over to the dev forum. There's a thread on stock firmwares for sgy (it's stickied). In the 2nd post, you'll find a link to download the drivers (only the drivers). I hope that the computer does check Windows Update to install new software.

Hello!
I'd really like to use SideSync 3 from Samsung with my Note 4, because I work on my computer alot and it would be very handy to operate my phone via comp.
I had it set up on my ex personal PC via USB, but I can't get it to work on my ASUS laptop.
Problem: I install SideSync 3 from http://www.samsung.com/us/sidesync/ and after I start the program nothing happens. It's like it freezes on opening and doesn't start. I was looking in the running processes but can't find any clue that is actualy running nor anything. I tried running as admin, tried system compatibility with win 8, 7, xp, dpi changes, admin rights... nothing works.
Any idea?
I'd be really happy if someone helped me out! =)
Sorry this won't help much. But it's working fine on WiFi. 8.1 Windows. Check you have latest version from Samsung on your note

As I said... I'm loosing my mind =(
Same problem here on Asus laptop with Windows 8.1
Same problem here.
Any ideas?
hi ,
i noticed that you are trying to get SideSync 3 it to work on Win 8.1 (PC /USB .)
However ,i have Acer laptop Win 8 ( have not updated laptop to Win 8.1 ) SideSync 3 works fine. (No freezes or nothing, smooth, no problems at all )
Note 4 / USB connected .
Maybe you can " read " something into why it works on Win 8, since you " tried system compatibility with win 8" ?
Good luck
I have same problem. I tried on 3 different computers (Win 10, Win 8.1 and Win 7). To my suprise I can't run this app on any computer. It just will not start - at least it seams so. I also tried different compability modes and run it as administrator, but no success (it's same experience as miHah).
This is not a problem of phone (I use S6 Edge) - the phone is recognized when connected by USB (and I can browse/edit content on phone from pc). It just wont work with SideSync. BTW: I tried with SideSync version 3 and 4. Same results - doesnt run.
I have similar problem. I am unable to install samsung sidesync because it freezes my Windows 10 pc while installing samsung usb drivers for mobile devices. I am also unable to uninstall samsung usb drivers. Everytime I forced to reset my pc. Any ideas?
I have same issues and very confused
Admin rights requested on startup
At any time when I reboot, as Sidesync is started during boot sequence, when I login in, the Admin rights autorisation opened as I am not admin by default.
Any clue or advice for this ?
Thanks
jp

Do you guys also have keis 3 installed? I was able to start sidesync. I hadn't had any devices linked yet but I installed keis 3 and now it is doing the same (not even starting). I noticed when I downloaded sidesync from the Samsung website, it notified me I needed to update keis 3 and uninstalled it when I accepted the update. I wonder if it has something to do with both programs being installed or if you also need sidesync source on the computer as well. BTW I'm running acer win 7.
